I've been struggling to find affordable PC components lately and could really use some guidance on upgrading my system or even building a completely new PC. I currently run an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core processor and a GTX 1660 SUPER graphics card, but I'm unsure if this setup is sufficient for video editing or if I need an upgrade. I'm having trouble locating budget-friendly components, and I'm not sure if my PC's performance is subpar or if there's room for improvement. Do I need to upgrade my CPU, GPU, or both to avoid bottlenecking? Additionally, I'm experiencing some issues with recording, and I'm not sure if it's related to my OBS settings. I generally don't push my game settings to the maximum, ensuring they are playable and the video quality is decent, but in some games, the recording quality still suffers. Can anyone offer advice or point me in the right direction? I'm open to suggestions and appreciate any help. Thanks a bunch!

Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: variety Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): ryzen 7 3700x Ram 32GB gpu: Radeon rx 570 power sup: 750W Dual LG 4k monitors first time posting… this is my first pc build. I’ve had it for a couple of years now. I’m a videographer and editor by trade. I got into streaming for fun last year and I’m looking to upgrade to a better graphics card to be able to handle streaming and game performance, maybe some game recording to mess around with some fun projects, but also be able to do more work from home. My current editing software is DaVinci Resolve which, at this time, is not compatible with AMD’s current version. I believe this will get fixed in the future but whether I stick with AMD or not for this purpose isn’t really a deciding factor. I’m just hoping to make a decent upgrade at this time. I am not computer literate… so looking up graphics cards and seeing mostly numbers and “ti’s” is like trying to read another language for me. I’ve been looking up GPU’s and seeing good things about the Nvidia Rtx 3070’s other than price as well as the new 4070’s but a lot of YouTubers are saying not to buy them? I’m not trying to break the bank… but I want a decent upgrade and I don’t want to worry about upgrading again in two years. I’m hoping to find something solid for what I want to use it for at a decent price. Can anyone give me some good options?

Hi, So I'm from India and the place where I stay we have at least 4-5 instances of power outage each day, its super unpredictable. I mainly use my PC (Ryzen 9 3900, 2070 Super, 32GB RAM) for video editing and motion graphics. Initially I got a 600VA UPS to go along with the setup and it just wont hold. If I have after effects and there is a power cut, the system just shuts down completely. I lose all the work and also I'm scared that such shut downs might harm the components(I'm not sure). I did some online reading and realized that I need something called an "On-line UPS", now the ones available in India are either way too expensive or way too loud (that's what I got from some of the amazon reviews) to be used in the same room(they are mostly server/cctv room UPSs). Right now I have everything including two 24 Inch 60Hz monitors connected to the same UPS. Whenever I'm not using After effects/premiere and say I'm watching a video on YouTube, the UPS usually holds up, it gives me 15-20 mins backup to safely shut down. I was wondering if instead of a full fledged On-line UPS, what if I get another say 1000VA ups and hook just the tower to that and leave the monitor and speakers with the old 600VA one. Will it hold up in case of an outage? Especially if I'm exporting something. I don't want it to stay on and finish the export, just 5-10 mins, enough for me to cancel the export and shut down the system. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks

I put together this list for my friend. He wants to build a pc that can edit in 1080p and 4k smoothly with as little money as possible. He doesn't really care for gaming on a pc but I really don't want him using on-board graphics because I want to get him into pc gaming. Budget: Around $2000 USD Country: The United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: DaVinci Resolve 16, Blender, Unreal Engine 4, maybe some light gaming (not priority) Other details: I'm thinking about embarking on my first PC build and I have very limited knowledge about compatibility and really what's best for what I need. I did some research and I stumbled onto Linus' budget 4K editing pc build and based my build around it. However, that video is over a year old so I'd like to use more updated hardware and maybe even have the capability to edit higher quality than 4K, maybe 5 or 6K, without sacrificing too much of a smooth editing experience, if possible. I also would like to be able to use blender and unreal engine as well but my main priority is editing. My current set up is a Microsoft Surface Studio 2 with an Intel Core i7, 32 GB of memory, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070, and a 2 TB SSD from Toshiba. I also have a Late 2015 iMac with an Intel Core i5, 8 GB of memory, an AMD Radeon R9 M395, and a 2 TB Fusion Drive. I mainly use the Surface as my daily driver and workhorse. I'll occasionally use the iMac if I need a second computer screen for something. I recently got my Surface back in May (2020) as a birthday gift and I was excited to finally have a PC that had decent performance. It is the best computer I've ever owned and I am still very happy with it. It runs most of the games I play at max settings and can even run older AAA titles (Fallout 4 and GTA V) at medium settings. It can even run some VR games decently well. Where my issues lie is with its performance in DaVinci Resolve. I've been working on a project for school that involves editing music videos shot using 4K footage and I find my computers performance to drop substantially the longer I edit to the point where it almost isn't usable (laggy playback, software crashes, etc.). I believe I narrowed the issues down to my computers GPU. If I understand correctly, DaVinci Resolve is a GPU based editing software and I don't think my hardware is powerful enough for the workloads. I looked into the possibility of boosting performance with an eGPU but after some research I found out that the Surface Studio 2 doesn't have Thunderbolt so it's impossible to connect a eGPU. I haven't tried editing using my iMac yet but I don't think that it will perform any better because it's a much older computer with worse hardware. I think the best solution is to upgrade to a better computer but I could totally be wrong and maybe all of my issues could be fixed with tweaking the settings, I would greatly appreciate some input on that as well. Here is the my attempt to find some parts that I think would work. Please let me know if there are any obvious issues or any parts should use instead of these. Also, I'm using the 3070's retail price of $499 in my cost estimates because I'm going to wait until they are back to regular prices before buying (screw scalpers). Budget (including currency): 3000USD or 1000000HUF Country: Hungary Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: DaVinci Resolve Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I need a lot of storage, but most of it to archive stuff. I use DaVinci Resolve, mostly edit 1080p right now, but would like to do 4k or even higher res. I play some games, but they are not so demanding (LoL, cs:go, apex, rocket league, battlefront 2, rainbow 6), I want to play cyberpunk tho. I was thinking of going AMD - Nvidia, maybe an rtx 3080 and a ryzen 9? + I only have place on the left side on my desk, so a mirrored case with a window would be good, so I can easily swap storage. I have an old AMD FX-4300 PC. It has a Sapphire RADEON R7 370 NITRO Dual-X OC 4gb card. 8gb 1600 DDR3 ram. 80gb Intel 320 series SSD. I also have a 500gb usb drive, and a 250gb laptop drive via sata 3. She wants to edit videos taken with her phone and a Canon DSLR camera, and her game recordings from the XB1, so at most 1080p/60fps. She's saved up $300 towars buying a laptop, but If I can find some software and it'll handle the tasks, I'd rather just give her my old gaming rig, so she can worry about buying other stuff she may want. She'd have it hooked up to a 720p TV as a monitor Will this work for a 15yr old? What is good, hopefully inexpensive software to do video editing on for beginners? Do I need any minor upgrades, or should I just let her blow her money on a laptop? It still runs games like Overwatch at at least 144fps on high/ultra, CoD Black Ops 4 at around 90-100fps.

Instead of editing videos on a notebook with a I3-3110M, I would buy me a video-editing-PC. I have two choices: 1. Intel Xeon E5-1620 16 GB Ram Radeon R7 240 2. i7-4770 8 GB Ram NVIDIA Quadro NVS 310 Please tell me which of these you would buy for video editing in "premiere elements" or "premiere pro cs 2" and just a little bit 3d-modeling and animating in "blender". I want to build a high end rendering machine for after effects, 3DS MAX and octane. I already have a decent gaming pc with a 4690 and a gtx 960 4GB. But that thing is starting to lack behind. So I went on pcpartspicker and started to combine some stuff. The fittings and pipe I didn't add because I will do that on the fly. I also added a 10GBit network card for fast transfer with my 35TB server. PcPartPicker

Hey there LTT Forums! Long time reader, first time posting. I've finally decided to build a new PC and think I've got everything I need. I'm just looking for any suggestions from this amazing community that may help me in any way possible. With that said, I'll keep this short and sweet. I'm looking to build primarily a Gaming PC, but I do plan on streaming on twitch as well as editing my streams in Adobe Premiere. Things to note: -I don't plan on overclocking (but would like to have it available in case I decide to in the future) -I've never done water cooling before. I think it looks amazing but am not sure if it's absolutely necessary for me. -I am an Intel / NVIDIA fan (nothing against AMD Ryzen, just preference) So with that said. Here is the build I've come up with: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/estrasser/saved/dYbgsY (NOTE: the only things I'm keeping from my current PC are my Monitors, my SSD, and my 1TB HDD) If anyone has ANY suggestions for me it would be greatly appreciated. Whether it be hardware suggestions, saving money, or even just some tips I should consider for my build. Any questions let me know! Thanks

Dear LTT forum. I just recieved a call from a friend, whos boss is looking into an editing PC, since his speced out mac doesn't do the job. He wants to be able to edit 6K raw footage as smoothly and as fast as possible. I don't know much about high end tear of PC components, that's why I'm writing this post. 1. Budget & Location He's location is in Austria/Germany. So please use German PCPP. As far as for the budget, he isn't really concerned about the money. When my friend asked me, what do I think PC will cost, I said probably around 10 000€. Is this too low or too much? But really. He doesn't care for the money (as strange as it is). 2. Aim As I previously stated, he wants to be able to edit 6K raw footage in real life if possible, if not, as fast as it gets. 3. Monitors For now he is asking only for PC, without monitors. He'll just probably buy bunch of high end 4,6 or even 8K monitors. 4. Peripherals Not needed (same reason as for monitor) 5. Why are you upgrading? His speced out mac couldn't handle editing 6K footage. I know it's seems weird and fake, but it's not. I could just go to PCPP and chosen the most expensive configuration, but that doesn't guarantee the best performance. That's why I need your help. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I totally forgot. Since he bought tons of lacie drives with thunderbolt, is there any way that you could use that drives on this pc? Is there any PCI extension thunderbolt cards?

I just want to preface this thread with the fact I've looked through multiple YouTube videos, online threads etc about the matter - but they've mostly served to confuse me more. Let's cut to the chase. I'm a fulltime videographer & photographer, I shoot multiple projects weekly as well as personal projects. I work off a single laptop with an internal SSD, and have 5 slow external HDDs and a single 10TB backup drive that sits on my desk at home. Right now, it's an absolute mess, I'm editing projects off my slow external drives because my SSD is full, I have footage all over the place with no clear backups.... It is just a mess and I have been trying to figure out the best way to clean everything up. I was planning on buying a new 2tb inernal SSD and installing it, editing my projects off there before transfering to a backup drive (potentially an external SSD incase my laptop fills up again) and then another big backup drive. But I've seen so much online about storage methods, having RAID drives - networks... there is so much info i don't know where to start. The caveat here is that I spend quite a lot of time on the road, and am about to embark on a 5 week project - so being able to backup and store footage during that time will need to be on something portable... Any help would be much apprecaited!

You've probably heard this a million times. After a bunch of research, I'm still stuck on what GPU to get for editing. I'll make this thread organized as possible for the ease of clarification. Intention I barely play games so this is mainly for photography and I'm planning to move forward with videography soon. I'm not sure what GPU to get for editing 4K videos and photo editing. I'm happy to buy a used GPU and I have a budget of 200 although I want to save much money as possible and invest it into storage. I'll get a 4K monitor that is 27 to 32 inches as soon I get in video production (maybe gonna get another monitor or a TV for editing and other purposes ). Some say a 1650 or 1660 will do the job others say they'll never. Here are some GPUs that I thought would work: AMD Radeon RX 570. AMD Radeon RX 580 Nvidia GTX 1650. Nvidia GTX 1660. Nvidia GTX 1070. I saw these cards to be around $200 or below. Softwares I use Photoshop Lightroom Capture One Illustrator Softwares I'm planning to use for video Premier Pro After Effects My rig (as of now) CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x. Motherboard: Asus Rog Strix B450-F. Ram: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16gb 3200mhz. Storage: WD 1 TB HDD. GPU: GTX 960 4gb SSC ACX 2.0+. Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650 W 80+ Gold. I need a PC for animation / editing (casual gaming) .. I will be making 2D animation .Budget is INR: 65k (around 900 USD) Software will be Krita and adobe animate .I am from India so pricing is a little odd here. Do you think a Ryzen 5 3500(6c/6t)(Rs:11000)(USD: 155) will be enough or I should absolutely go for Ryzen 5 3600(6c/12t)(Rs :18000)(USD 250)??? So the components are (total INR 50k or 700USD)........ Hey guys! Was wondering what would be the most beneficial for an editing PC. I know the Threadripper is better but it is also a lot more expensive than the 2700x. What CPU is the best bang for the buck? I would go with Intel but I wont be doing gaming so I won't benefit from an Intel chip where as I will benefit from AMD where programs like Premiere can use those extra cores and threads. Any other CPU recommendations are welcome!
