So I have a Silverstone power supply and looking to buy a UPS because my dorm have poor circuit setup 5 room sharing a 10A 220V circuit... So in case of the circuit tripped I want my PC can survive a minute or two for me to shut down and reset the breaker... (5 rooms with just 2000W...a hair dryer and a vacuum can exceed that... it already popped twice in last 2 month) The power supply model is Silverstone ET650-G (Tier B in LTT PSU Tier list) rated 650 W, my set up calculated load is 399W, recommended UPS rating is 800 VA. Since I am only expecting to continue using the UPS for next year before I move out, I am trying to get a budget UPS to get though the year... The problem is, does it REALLY matter if the UPS I chosen is NOT a pure sine wave UPS? Most 800-850 VA are about 100 EURO (120 USD) here and all of them are simulated sinewave. I found a few EATON models (Eaton 3S 850, Eaton Ellipse ECO) but interestingly EATON don't even list if they are pure sign wave or not. I found out later that none were and even EATION's Eaton Ellipse PRO UPS are not pure sinewave... only server grade rack mounted are (e.g. Eaton 5SC UPS)... Same story with APC, heck even AMAZON BASIC have a 850 VA UPS with LED and USB … Googling isn't doing much help, some pages online suggest stand clear of simulated sine wave UPS for Active PFC PSU. While on the other hand, PCGamer.com suggests a Cyberpower EC650LCD (which is simulated) for gaming... APC and EATON also advertises their non-sinewave UPS is "for computers and offices" despite most PSU you can buy today have Active PFC... Silverstone didn't list if their PSU can be used with non-sinewave UPS... So will it then? I hope someone used or using a similar spec UPS can make a suggestion.

Greetings everyone, I did quite a bit of scouting and I feel like my query is very specific so here goes. Current gear: 4x Eaton 3000VA 9PX - each with a 2/3kVA Extended Battery Module - All running their own dedicated power circuits coming from different main boards. Each are equipped with a Management Network Card and we have setup SNMP 2 Server Racks - 2 Eaton System per rack Load balancing - every server that has 2 PSU is plugged into different UPS Based on loads we have roughly 30 minutes of runtime on battery (its more but I'm leaving the extra as buffer) Dell Servers running VMware with Vcenter running on one of the hosts - HA is not available to us based on license We also have a few BareMetal servers running a mix of Windows / Ubuntu Current Software: IPM2 Hate the fact that this needs to be a VM, even if it means hosting it on a separate host that is not critical. Even though I can successfully create connectors to our hosts I don't always get clean shutdowns on Guest OS and then the host will hang and not shutdown. Lets just say it will do 80% of the job right. Let's be honest, the reason we are currently using it, is because its a native software that will talk to those UPS and allow you to implement automations based on different states. Details: We occasionally get power outages and in most cases power comes back within a good time frame, however we want to cover the scenarios where it doesn't. Two scenarios that we want to make sure we cover are: A. If input/utility power is off AND UPS Battery has reached 60% start shutdown process (whether by actions or scripts) B. If temperature of attached Sensors reach Critical Threshold start shutdown process We also make sure that this happens even if 1 UPS goes down, so for instance if during the night, that one circuit breaker trips and the UPS goes on battery, once that UPS gets to 60%, we expect a notification that the servers will start shutting down. Alas it doesn't always play nice. Looking for: A platform that will not only tap into the UPS using SNMP but also act on what is getting reported. Nothing is stopping us from remoting in and doing a shutdown process once we've been notified, but we want to cover ourselves when we're out of business hours (deep sleep). I've been looking at a lot of systems, PRTG, Zabbix, Observium, 10-Strike Network Pro - Pulseway - DataDog - LanSweeper - NinjaOne - Nagios - CheckMk All have different functionalities I know, I even started looking at NUT but there I'm really going into the deep dive and I don't know if I want to go down that rabbit hole. Also a lot of those will "monitor" SNMP but won't do much more than that. Some I've looked at more than others. I was hoping there was a platform that would monitor a network where I could also have our workstations etc.. but also tap into our UPS SNMP and then based on state, initiate script or trigger a shutdown action on "hosts" / agents. There are some requirements though because we do have AD as a VM and don't want a system that relies on it, we do have static IP for every important system. It also means we'd prefer an on-prem system or at least that we can run on on-prem. We also want to keep this system separate aka its the 1st machine on and the last one off. The idea here is, said system succeeded at shutting down everything important, it then shuts itself down. The hurdle here would be for us to trigger it awake but we should be able to trigger this directly with a UPS and having it on a separate segment. We'd have to play with that idea. But in a nutshell that Monitoring/Controller system in the event of UPS issue: Guest OS Shutdown 1st -> Hosts -> Standalone BareMetal Servers -> NAS -> Itself (upon completion, whether it can check or not is a different story, maybe a ping, I don't know) With all that said, I did like the idea of dealing with a platform that had different OS agents, to me having an agent installed on each systems, means that it has proper access to the system and will take commands from the controller regardless of it being part of the domain or not. This is why I have my doubts with some of these cloud platforms, if the server room loses the UPS that's powering the gateways/modems (for whatever reason), and we lose internet, i'd like to hope said system is still ploughing along at shutting down everything it can. I don't think there is a perfect system/solution but getting close to it would be nice. Yes at the moment I'm looking at a Software Solution because shutting down gracefully our critical systems is important to us. And no, we're not venturing into Backup Generator, using ATS etc... We're not at that stage yet, and building logistics are going to be hell. To be honest that's a more expensive venture vs us succeeding at shutting down nicely our systems and bringing them back up when safe to do so. Also replacing the EATONs isn't really an option, we still have plenty of time left with these. Would love to hear about other setups or how other people deal with some of these scenarios and there's plenty of scenarios but I'm really concentrating on the main two I mentioned earlier. I'm definitely open to discussion, can definitely elaborate more on the setup and also maybe a reality check on my part to see if I'm really looking at this the right way or not. So today my C drive on my server corrupted after a power flicker, the server is just connected to a mediocre surge protector and it was bound to happen. So now I need to get a UPS for the server and I am trying to find the right option, I want an Eaton as we use them at work and have had good success with them but am torn between an older low end enterprise grad unit or a newer home style unit, I want to stay under 200 for this and those are the two options in that price point. So here are the two I am looking at, one is an Eaton 5S 1000LCD and the other is an Avaya 9125 1000i, both are 1000VA which should give my server 5+ minutes of run time and both are Eaton made. Ill add links to the bottom but let me know what you guys think. Also if you guys have a better suggestion i am open too it, Trying to keep under $200 with replaceable batteries and 1000+VA, also preferably a way for it to shut down the server and ethernet possibly. So I bought an Avaya UPS for my server the other day, it's an older unit that I bought off ebay. Problem I am having is it seems to not charge the battery, if the power goes out it just turns off after a second, also it fans come on and then go off constantly. Dont know what else to do with it and am about ready to return it It's an Avaya 9125 1500VA

When someone wants to buy a UPS there are a lot of question to be answered: - How many VA ? - Is modified sinewave ok or pure sinewave is essential? - high priced APC & Eaton or more reasonably priced powerwalker and cyberpower - There are no reviews online which show oscilloscope outputs so the buyer can decide which ups should buy. Hi so I have a TPPI Server and the simple question is I want to have multiple worlds in it (Survival, Creative, etc) I know there was a Bukkit plugin but I cant use that. Please help
