  1. Hello all, First time poster, long time lurker. I've finally got my remote gaming PC setup and desk to a point where I would like to share the setup with the community. I hope others wanting a similar setup can gleam some useful ideas from this post! Background: My gaming PC puts out a good amount of heat, and my desk is in my bedroom. In the summer the room is brutal after a few hours of gameplay. Even with aggressive AC, the room can hit 90F. I've seen Linus' setup and I already had a server rack, so I figured I'd do a similar thing with the long distance display cables. I did try out other methods; RDP, moonlight, and steam remote play, but found the latency and compression were just too noticeable. Not to mention that wake on lan is unreliable in my experience. As for thunderbolt, I didn't want to get stuck into an ecosystem of specific motherboards and cpus. The Long Cables: I found some good 75ft optical USB and Displayport cables on Amazon for ~$160 a piece. Its definitely pricy for a single cable, but it is plenty worth it IMO. I was worried about latency issues with long cables, but after testing it out, I found no noticeable difference between a 3ft USB and display cable and the 75ft cables. The Gaming PC Power Switch: The PC power switch circuit is 5v but only 0.01 amps, so voltage drop over 75ft could be less than a volt. So I could just run a pair of wires the whole distance. But I thought, if I'm running a whole other cable through the walls, I might as well make it a useful cable. Despite the extra cost, I decided to use a CAT 7 Ethernet cable and just hijack a twisted pair inside the cable. Just a little bit of future proofing if I move in the future, for the next person. I got one of those momentary push buttons with built in LED, the ones you might find on custom PC cases. And I could use a second twisted pair in the Ethernet cable and splice into the power LED header on the motherboard. Granted, the voltage drop at that distance with 24-26 awg wires is about half, but the LED still illuminates enough. And as a side benefit, I still had two twisted pairs left, just enough for a 100base-tx connection, as well as PoE mode A. (Don't ask me why when I already have an Ethernet cable to my room, in short I'm splicing off two pairs for a PoE powered GPS NTP server in the attic) As for each end of this power switch madness, I wanted something that wasn't entirely cobbled together. So, I found some Ethernet splitters, the ones that split out a gigabit Ethernet cables 4 twisted pairs into 2 100base-tx connections. For the PC side of things I got one of those M.2 to RJ45 network adapters. The one I found has the all the logic on the m.2 side, so the pcie bracket just had raw electrical connections. I used this as a nice way to make the bulkhead connection into the PC case. I got some splitters for the motherboards power sw and led headers, and connected up the rj45 network adapter. The other side was definitely more cobbled. I cut the end off an Ethernet cable and soldered the pairs (orange and green) onto the push button. Covered it in dielectric grease and wrapped in electrical tape and fabric wrap. Audio: I went pretty basic here, my monitor has 3.5mm port, so I'm just using audio over displayport. Then I have a terribly cheap 3.5mm mixer. I have ground loop isolators on all inputs and outputs and there is still a small hum in the background - to be fixed later. USB hub: This remote PC isn't my daily driver, for that I have a SFF Linux box. My KVM switch has two USB 3.0 ports (not for keyboard and mouse) that I have for a microphone and any USB drives I might need. Side note: The reason I have the connectpro KVM specifically is because I hate the delay of regular USB switches, so I needed one with USB DDM. Cable routing: I'm fairly lucky, theres an air return vent that shares a wall with my bedroom. I'm on the second floor and my server rack is in the basement, right next to the HVAC system, so it was basically a direct cable drop through the first floor. Pictures: Middle monitor is the only one I run on the gaming PC, the sides stay permanently on my daily driver SFF. Views of my cable rats nest. Gotta hide 'em somewhere: Definitely not completely finished with this setup, still have some things to take care of, like having a non-duct taped together quality audio mixer, and maybe mounting the UPS and KVM under the desk. I would love to hear what y'all think! 2. I'm looking for a hardware solution to use the same peripherals (mouse, keyboard and webcam) and dual monitors for my work laptop and my windows desktop. The laptop has 2 USB-C ports. I've looked online and can't find a single solution (ie. Need to buy both a dock and a KVM switch). Also from what I've read, DP is better than HDMI for NVIDIA GPUs (coz of GSync compatibility) Looking for something between $100-$250 price range (idk if that's realistic) 1. Is there a good option that can have a single USB-C input for the laptop with compatibility with the desktop? If not what's the best dock and KVM switch combo? 2. Is my conjecture that DP better than HDMI correct for my use case?
  3. I have multiple options I’ve seen from videos on how to do this by using voice meter or ndi but I don’t want to use those I would rather go an easier way so would an aux cable be able send my gaming pc audio to my streaming pc and if not is there any mixers of some sort that are reasonable cheaper than the go xlr mini that would work the same way
  4. Ive tried for days and days to fix this but everything ive seen on videos is really unnecessary and has latency or just sucks. Im mainly talking about voicemeeter. But i really need a way to route my gaming pc audio to my streaming pc while also having my headphones still in my gaming pc. Hearing the streaming pc for me doesnt matter as alerts are not a problem i will have them pulled up on the gaming pc. Is there a way i can do this i also have the hd60 pro if that helps at all. Ive gone through using the audio for elgato sound capture but that required me to have my headphones plugged into my streaming pc which means if im not streaming and want to get on my gaming computer then i wont be able to hear anything. I really need help with this it seems way to confusing for what a simple task this should be.
  5. I know this is a really strange question but I'm curious to know if anyone has any good ideas on how to have a pc display appear on a Mac mini using a capture card to record/stream pc gameplay. I want to use a Mac as my main computer, but have my gaming pc to play games. I don’t want to have to swap HDMI cords each time, and it would be cool if my Mac was able to stream my pc display to discord for example so my pc can conserve resources. Similar to a dual pc setup for streaming but the second pc is actually a Mac mini. I've heard solutions such as remote desktops and KVM switches but none fully satisfy my very niche needs. Ideally I would be able to record and stream gameplay on my Mac in 1080p60, but game on my monitor with 1080p144. No clue if this is possible, but I have been stumped on ideas and would LOVE some feedback.
  6. Budget (including currency): Already have components can get more in reason Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Battlefield 2042, First Person Shooters, Streaming Other details: I have recently upgraded the GPU and CPU in my main PC. Consequently I have the parts for a second PC. I have been considering streaming just for fun - with friends and for laughs. So two questions 1) Do I need a dedicated "streaming" PC or does my main PC have enough chops to play games like Battlefield 2042 and stream in good quality? OR 2) Should I create a dedicated streaming PC from the components listed below in PC#2? Using PC #1 for gaming and PC#2 as the streaming PC? Perhaps the real question is can an RX580 handle being the streaming GPU? Here is what I have: PC#1 - Main CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x GPU: Rog Strix 3080 MB: Asus B550-F Ram: 64 GB DDR4 3600 (4x16GB) Storage: 2x1TB SSD's Capture Card Elgato SD 60 capture and a cam link PC#2 potential streaming PC CPU: Ryzen 7 3800x GPU: AMD Saphire RX580 MB: ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3600 (4x8GB) Storage: 1TB SSD Opinions, thoughts, suggestions welcome. I'm comfortable adding and removing components and building PC's - just never thought about streaming so any guidance appreciated.
  7. Nevermind, delete this thread if you want, I couldn't seem to delete it myself.
  8. I am planning on fitting two PCs into this case. I want to use 15 deepcool fans. How should I go aboput being able to use them all and use all of them with Aura sync, it's this motherboard: Motherboard: https://www.amazon.com/ROG-Strix-Z390-F-Gaming-Motherboard/dp/B07J53J483/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=asus+i9+9900k+motherboard&qid=1584738401&sr=8-6 Fans: https://www.amazon.com/DEEPCOOL-RF120M-Compatible-Controlled-Motherboard/dp/B07HN199YJ/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Aura+Sync+fans&qid=1587756176&s=electronics&sr=1-2 Case: https://www.amazon.com/Phanteks-Enthoo-PH-ES719LTG_DBK01-Performance-Tower/dp/B07TVFHTDW/ref=sr_1_2?tag=awesomenetw07-20&keywords=Phanteks%2BEnthoo%2BLuxe%2B2%3A&qid=1570637639&sr=8-2&th=1
  9. is an i5 6600 sufficient for a streaming pc? it would be paired with my old 970 and 8 gigs of ram. will this setup be able to stream 720 60fps? it will be a dual pc setup with my new gaming pc running a 6700k and a 1070
  10. I have two desktop PCs running Windows 10 Pro. I have two monitors which have two inputs, HDMI and VGA. I have my primary PC connected to both monitors, the primary monitor runs HDMI from the PC to HDMI to the monitor (the cable is HDMI both ends), the secondary monitor runs DVI from the PC to HDMI to the monitor (cable is DVI one end and HDMI on the other). Each monitor has an input switch to switch from VGA to HDMI channels (the input button). On the secondary monitor it stays on the HDMI channel all the time, since that is its only job. The primary monitor has the second PC hooked up to it as well, VGA from the PC to VGA on the monitor. I have been using the input switch to switch from the HDMI channel (primary PC) to the VGA channel (the secondary PC) on the primary monitor. It was working great. Then I installed a graphics card (an XFX AMD RX 480), and now when I hit the input button on the primary monitor, it goes to the second PC as expected, but when I hit the input button to switch back to the primary PC, it doesn't detect the signal anymore. I have to either unplug the cable from the graphics card and plug it back in, or hit win+P and select "extend display" to make it comes back (this, however, causes all my desktop icons to be rearranged every single time, so it is very unusable). HOWEVER, this is only when the second PC is ON, when the second PC is OFF, the input button still works fine, I can switch to the VGA channel and back with no problem. I am running DisplayFusion to customize the taskbar on the secondary monitor and add some pop/resize functions to my explorer windows, but I do not use DisplayFusion to manage the monitor setup (I use the built in Windows tool to manage my secondary display). This problem is VERY annoying, as it has made my formerly working set up totally inconvenient to use. When I go into the AMD control panel, it does have a section called Display, and it does offer to manage my monitors, but as far as I can tell I have everything turned off. That being said, something is definitely causing an issue in there, as it worked fine before I had a graphics card in the machine. What can I do to fix this?

  12. This is Operation: Open Air. This is a case/dual rig that because the ridiculous heat in Michigan recently and especially in the room of this machine is getting so hot that I needed to take these machines out of their natural habitat and migrate them into an open air case... Now I personally love open air mining rigs because the simplicity and I love the way computers internals look and a near sealed case removes the techy look to the components. So with both of those in mind (and also one rig Is meant for mining) I created this project and here's how it went. I had some random angle iron in the garage, marked it up, waited a week for my brother to finally cut them and then realized none of it was actually 90' and this would be the most frustrating build I've ever done. So drilling into this was a pain as the metal is so thicc and it doesn't like to be penetrated which eventually led me during the build process to be so angry I threw the entire thing across the garage and a beam went half way into a cardboard box... How inspiring. Eventually frustrated with the problem of wood splitting and the metal being so thicc and hard to work with I said screw it and moved to wooden pillars vs metal as it was relatively easier to work with. Now that it's (relatively) completed, I do like the way it turned out and that means I will be redoing the entire top portion of the case because it has many issues, there is a lot of sag and it's uneven the edges look terrible but other than that it's a great case. 13. Before I start dual PC streaming I want to know if its better to stream over Ethernet or with a internal capture but one thing that i'm afraid of is that I will experience input while playing on my gaming PC. Please help I don't know what to do
  14. Hey guys, After the birth of my first PC (R7 1700/GTX1080 etc) I've been enjoying the life of a high frame, high graphic snob. However, if I'm to record my intensely high FPS and graphics gameplay at 1440p with no loss in performance, I'm going to need a second pc to be able to GPU encode all that tasty data. I've already looked into the differences between CPU and GPU encoding for streaming and recording, but now I'm stuck on which graphics card to get for this second system. It's hard for me to think about how much gpu usage recording takes vs gameplay. Using Rocket League as an example- at 165fps, I can play at maximum graphics and AA, and be at or around 95% gpu usage, but to RECORD that same set of options, what kind of gpu bandwidth should I be looking at? Do I need the same, a gtx1080, in order to record what I play? Or does it take a lot less power to record vs generate, so all I need is maybe a 1660ti? Basically, what gpu would I need in a second pc in order to capture my primary pc's 1440p gameplay with no issues. I have an Elgato 4kPro already. So that's something. As a side note, since I don't record all that much, this will be my girlfriend's first custom PC during the other 95% of the time I'm not recording anything. This helps me justify the cost. Is this love? Or greed...
  15. I recently made a Dual PC streaming guide. It's as comprehensive as I could make it for anyone that wants to get started with Dual PC setups. I can't vouch for ridiculously high quality setups with $10,000+ in production equipment, but if you're looking to get into higher quality streaming with a relatively low barrier to entry, this is my guide on reddit. Feel free to leave feedback on there or on here. https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/af18w4/ultimate_dual_pc_streaming_guide/
  16. Hey guys, I recently built a new gaming rig, and instead of having both monitors hooked up to my new rig (in order to preserve fps) I hooked up my old rig to one of the monitors and control them both with Sharemouse. My issue is wanting to listen to the secondary PC. I'm not streaming or anything so I don't need some complicated setup. I just want to be able to hear YouTube and other stuff from the secondary. I used to hookup my xbox360 through the line-in on my PC so I didn't have to keep rotating my speakers and that worked great. So my thought process was plug a Male to Male 3.5mm from output to input. But I get noise, static, and popping. Did some research and tested to see if it was a ground loop, everything is on the same power strip. Tied unplugging outlets without ground prongs. No dice. Tried unplugging my wifi-router. Same thing. Bought a behringer UAC222 after reading some advice that a digital signal would get rid of interference. Nothing changed. I'm at a total loss. If I listen to the input of the UAC222 with the headphone Jack on the device it sounds clear as day, however the output on my headphones connected to my main PC still has noise. I'm also using a USB headset on my main PC.
  17. So, I'm planning to build a new pc at the end of 2020. And I need some help. I have been following LTT for years, but never really contibuted to the forums. I want to make a new pc inside a server rack. As in, a big server case inside the server rack. And I want to do the same with my old pc, as a streaming pc. I also want to use an AIO for both pc's, for the cpu. I kinda like the idea of multiple pc's in a server rack, all clean, and stacked. Then add my audio equipment thats already 2u and 1u size + add future network stuff. And then another plan for the future is a 2nd pc for someone else, as a 3rd pc in the case. I know how to build a pc, so that won't be an issue So, a server rack feels perfect. Now my issue is finding the right Server/PC case for the server rack that is decent on airflow, and allows for an AIO inside and normal pc parts (ATX mobo, ATX psu, etc) Anyone with suggestions Thanks in advance, Asuna Add: Plan is to build a Ryzen 9 3950x system or a Ryzen 4000 series cpu. So plans are for a high end system
  18. Hello. Hopefully this is the correct category for this kind of issue. I recently started using a two pc stream setup. Whenever I go live, the games I play starts feeling really sluggish/laggy/input lag etc. I've searched everywhere for a solution, but none so far. This only happens when I'm live. I use an elgato hd60 pro, and duplicate, to achieve 144hz on my gaming monitor. 1 mic 2 Pc's

So Im trying to figure out how I can use my XLR mic for 2 PC's. I have a Roland VT-4 audio mixer that I'm using for the mic. Would having the mic connected to PC#1 via the USB B port, while having PC#2 connected using the Headphone jack via a auido 3.5 cable work? or Do i need to install a program or use 2 different mics to work?
  20. I recently built a new desktop, specs given below. Due to the software that I use personally and require for school, I must run windows and sometimes Linux. That's why I decided for running windows 10 pro on the pc directly and running ubuntu 18.04 virtualized. But obviously it is hard to take the pc with me to school, which is why I am looking for a method to share the data on this pc with my laptop. I won't need to access the data multiple times per day (most likely 2/3 times per week), which is why I was thinking of turning on the pc remotely when I need the data. We do have a NAS at home but it is very slow and would not be suitable to run a service like Nextcloud (neither does my dad want to open it to the WAN, or set up another NAS). That is why I am looking for a way to set up a cloud service (as far as I am aware, this is the best method of accessing data remotely) on my pc (on windows or a virtual machine). Another preference is that I would like to run the hdd's in raid 1 (I know this is not a backup, the most important data is backed up to the NAS, but not all data can be stored on it). This made me come to the (ideal) situation: When I am at school I launch my pc remotely and access the data by using a cloud service (or other application) running on the desktop, with it running the hdd's in raid 1. Current idea: Use windows storage spaces to setup the hdd's in raid 1 and share the drive as a windows share. Then use Hyper-V to run FreeNAS with Nextcloud, which accesses the widows share with a smbclient. However this method seems to be overcomplicated and I was curious whether someone has experience with this, would suggest another idea, or proposes another ideal situation for my needs. Help is much appreciated, thanks in advance! pc specs: * Ryzen 3900x * Asus tuf x570 gaming plus (wifi) * rtx 2070 super * 32 GB ram * 1 TB ssd (used as boot drive and for programs) * 2x 4 TB hdd (currently unassigned)
  21. Hello, Recently my dad and I are talking about building pcs for sim racing. Now, since i just like the trouble?, I wondered if I could try something like the: " 2 gaming rigs, 1 tower" idea. Since I would probably need something like Unraid (maybe someone has other virtualization tools?) I thought using that rig as my server swell. (I have some csgo/mc servers running). Now, because Ryzen cpus are so much quicker and getting affordable. Is it finally a serious option to build 1 pc, that you can use for 2 racing sims? (I do understand that you would need 2 gpus, but with two different systems you would too). I would like you guys idea's and think if a 3700x combined with 2 gpus would be powerful enough for this? Some details: sim rigs would both only use 1 screen 1080p 144hz server would only run minecraft and csgo server, looking to use plex here as well but not sure (would be nice if this could be done on this too) Thanks in advance!
  22. I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming / streaming setup and am on the fence about going for a single or dual PC setup. My current rig has got pretty good specs (GTX 1080, i7 7700k, 16GB RAM) but I do notice a considerable drop in performance when I use it to play and stream simultaneously. As I'm putting together a second system for my girlfriend anyways, I figured I could just use it as a dedicated streaming PC too but am unsure if it's the best decision. What would be the best choice? Should I just pass on my current rig and build a r7 2700x + RTX 2070 PC for both gaming and streaming, or would that still affect performance a lot? Or should I go for a dual PC setup (likely with NDI to connect them) where I put, say, an r7 2700x + GTX 1080ti in the gaming PC and then rely on my current (GTX 1080, i7 7700k) one for the encoding and streaming? I'm asking in part because I've heard that the RTX 20xx series is pretty great for streaming purposes so I might not even want to go for a dual setup. Any suggestions or builds (dual / single PC for streaming) are welcome. Thanks!
  23. I currently have a PC which I use for gaming and streaming. It's got a GTX 1080, i7 7700k and 16GB of RAM. I'm planning to turn this into a dual PC setup specifically for streaming and to have the second system be used my girlfriend. In short, I intend to replace the GTX 1080 by a 1080ti as a gaming rig and put the 1080 into the new system with an r7 2700x (using x264 to encode). I've never built a Ryzen system before so all advice is welcome. I already own every part of the gaming PC other than the 1080ti. Thanks! 24. Hello LinusTechTips community, I recently upgraded to the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q from the ASUS PB278Q. I have a dual PC setup and everything was working fine until I upgraded to the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q; both computers had the same monitor originally. I am currently experiencing stuttering and tearing on the 'Recording PC.' I have tried to disable G-Sync and set the monitor to 60hz but neither of those improved the issue. In addition, the footage may be displaying significant artifacting, which may be the actual issue -- instead of the aforementioned. Sample footage can be found here: Recording PC specs: CPU: Intel Core i7-7820x GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 MOBO: ASUS ROG Strix x299-E Gaming Storage: WB Black 1T + 250GB SSD RAM: 16GB @ 3000mhz OS: Windows 10 Home Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i V2 Recording hardware: Elgato 4K60 Pro -- This is only inside the second ("Recording") computer. Note: The main PC has almost the same specs. The only difference is that the main PC has a GTX 1080. In addition, the system has multiple forms of storage (SSD's and HDD's) OBS Settings: Encoding: The option is grayed out and does not allow for an option to be picked. Video Bitrate: 100,000 Note: I know this may seem massively huge but I never had any issues in the past. It has always ran perfect. If you have further questions or need more details, please feel free to let me know. Thank you for any and all assistance!
  25. Hi guys, I received 1500W Titanium digital PSU to small project. During a work with it I had the idea to put two platforms in it. PSU isnt phanteks revolt x for dual system, so I need to split power in other way. Unfortunately, Phanteks Power Splitter is not available longer (or yet) so any suggestions how to make it work? Each system is 1x8pin eps so in theory could be connected to PSu directly. GPUs also. The problem is with 24pin. Can it be splitted with cables 24pin to 2x 24pin without any voltage issues? Idea is to turn PSU with power button from one mobo, then both systems are ON in same time. Issue can be with turining it OFF but turning off main PC could turn power in both systems (acceptable) - not like in phanteks power splitter where psu works untill at least one system is ON. Perfect solution would be http://www.phanteks.com/PH-PWSPR.html but no option to buy it. Anyone tested, any solutions?
