Well I have planned to build a new PC.... I will be using my old VGA Monitor (which has max resolution up to 1366x768 pixels) for just a secondary display purpose... And I have bought a new monitor (which has a max resolution of 1920x1080 pixels) which I will be using as my display... But sadly my GPU (RX 580) doesn't have a VGA port but my motherboard does... So what do I do in this case?? Help me out.

Hi, I'm currently experiencing problems setting up dual monitors on my GTX 1660, both are have VGA outputs, one of them is going thru an VGA to HDMI adapter on the 1660, everything going fine, problem is, I tried running the other one thru a VGA to Display Port adapter and it goes to power saving mode a.k.a. not showing anything, I've checked both displays using the HDMI adapter and they work fine, but im guessing the problem is a)The VGA to Display port adapter or b) the Display Port on my 1660 I've power cycled both monitors, uninstalled drivers, reinstalled them again, updated windows, so IDK what to do here

LTT Fam, Moving over to Apple eco system - now the question(s) is: Is it better to buy a M1 Macbook Air and then doc it to my desktop setup OR buy a M1 Mac Mini dedictaed to desktop and have a lower spec laptop for travel (limited these days due to pandemic)? I thought maybe I could save money by buying the laptop and a good docking station or usb-c hub Is there a user experience difference in using an Apple laptop vs. desktop? Any issues connecting to dual monitors? Context: I have an asus RogSTRIX G550 - its huge (pictured on the left under my desk), i'm docking it now to my desktop setup with dual monitors and I have a Macbook Air 2016 I use for travel (it's slow but good enough). Sometimes when I really need to do work on the go, I'll take the Asus - its bloody heavy and barely fits in my laptop bag. And it's absolutly brutal to reconnect all the usb c's etc. It's not elegant and i'm ready to be a grown ass person and have a proper work setup.

Hi. I have two monitors, one HDMI and one VGA, just set up the second one via a VGA to DVI-D adapter. They work just fine on Windows and Linux, but the problem is that the BIOS boots up and displays on the VGA monitor.. Is there any possible fix for this?

HI, i recently bought a second monitor(which is now my main monitor), the gigabyte G24F, and it works really well, but it has one problem, it disconnects and reconnects in some scenarios, to be more specific, the monitor is connected to my pc by displayport, when i change to another input like hdmi nothing happens, but when i change back to displayport my pc acts like there's only one monitor for a second, but it reconnects almost immediately, the same thing happens when i turn off the monitor and the turn it on, and something very similar happens whenever I alt tab when I'm playing a fullscreen game. I don't know why this is happening , in the past I had connected another monitor and i had no issue(to be more especific, the second monitor that i had connected was a samsung tv, and the main monitor, that is now my secondary monitor, was a samsung monitor). I have checked everywhere and i can't find a solution to my problem, and i have tried everything, I have every diver updated, i even deleted the display adapterd driver and downloaded it again. My pc is running windows 10 64 bit GPU: gtx 970 CPU: i5 4430 Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 GAMING (bios is updated) ram: 8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz PSU: 750 evga 80plus bronze

I have a Sapphire DUAL-X R9 280 3GB that has 1x DP 1.2, 1x Dual-Link DVI-D, 1x Dual-Link DVI-I and 1x HDMI 1.4a. I'm currently running one monitor Benq XL2411Z at 144Hz (Full HD) plugged through DVI-D to DVI-D (only supported option for 144Hz). I want to buy 27'' monitor MSI Optix G273QF (Quad HD) that has 1x Displayport 1.2 and 1x HDMI 2.0. If I connect this second monitor through DP to DP will it work on 144Hz (or higher? second monitor supports 165Hz). Or simpler question will dual monitor setup work when connected DVI -> DVI and DP -> DP, because thats my only option if I dont want to run one of them on 60 Hz (Benq only supports 144 through DVI, and dont want to deal with display stuttering problem due to different refresh rates).

Hey lads and gals, So a few weeks ago I finally bought a 1440p ultrawide and have now run into a problem I experienced before. Apparently, the text in some applications becomes extremely blurry when Windows text and UI scaling is set to 125%, the easy solution to this problem on my laptop was to set a custom scale factor at 124% or 126%. My problem now is that I'm using my old 1080p monitor as a second display and its UI gets zoomed in beyond reason since that custom scale factor gets applied to ALL monitors. Solutions I found: -Manually changing high DPI settings for each blurry app to Application controlled. -Going somewhere in the middle with the custom scale factor, for example, 112% for me personally. -Getting another 1440p display. (I borrowed one from a friend to test this, but buying another 1440p monitor just so my text isn't blurry and my UI blown is too expensive of an option for me) Solution that maybe works?: Within the options of the NVIDIA Control Panel under the Manage 3D settings, I found an option named DSR - Factors also know as Dynamic Super Resolution, setting this to 1.78x allowed me to make Windows think my second monitor is running 1440p? (not entirely sure how this works) I also set DSR - Smoothness to 27% as 33% seemed a bit too blurry to me. I was now able to set a custom scale factor of 124% and the UI isn't blown up anymore and the before mentioned blurry looking text in some apps is gone. I also noticed that within the Windows Display Settings the Rearrange your displays thing now showed my monitors being the same size instead of a small and big box. nice little extra I guess because now I get a seamless transition between the displays instead of an invisible wall at the top and bottom. Update 4/23/2021: I installed XPExplorer - Windows 10 DPI Fix and set it to Use Windows 8.1 DPI Scaling, with this now enabled and the DPI Scale: at 125% everything looks sharp, i orignally didn't use this fix as it would zoom in my second monitors UI. but now that I combined it with the above mentioned DSR I have the right desktop icon size, no blurry text, and correct scaling on my UI. If there is a way to set a custom scale factor per display instead of globally or an entirely different solution please tell me below, this entire thing is pretty annoying and i prefer a proper solution but so far haven't found anything that works well. So i have this problem i am currently using and 1080p 21,5 inch Asus monitor as my main display. About 2 years ago i used dual monitor setup with the exact mashine and worked fine, after that i gave my monitor to my friend and recently i bought a 19 inch philips 1366x768 resolution, so i can multitask and work with CorelDRAW and Photoshop with ease, at least that was my first toughts. So my video card has vga, dvi-d and hdmi slot. I use the vga slot with my main monitor works fine. After i try to insert another display cable doest matter hdmi or dvi into the card even without the other side of the cable hooked to a monitor the moment i insert the display cable my main monitor goest black but not in sleep mode and the pc after few minutes restarts, BUT if i leave the secondary cable in the video card it wont display any image but still doesnt let the monitor go to sleep mode so its getting some signal. Any other combination of inputs rather than only vga it wont display any image. I have tried everything except changing the video card, but i know the ports work because i used them before and now i cant for some reason. My PC specs are: Dual AMD Opterons x64 2.4ghz Sapphire Radeon r7 240 4gb 8gb of ddr2 800mhz ram HP Workstation xw9400 is the whole pc model - its fully original only the video is changed. I know its a toster but its runs fine Windows 10 and all that. Please help i am trying for 3 months now.

Hello. I have this problem that I'm running a game at 200+ fps and if I click in second monitor my frame will drops to 20, that 20fps is fixed and never changes. The same thing happens on second monitor too, if I'm watching a video or youtube and even click on desktop of first monitor video will become a laggy mess. Already tried everything I found on internet. Disabled g-sync, disabled hardware accelerator for discord and made sure my monitors refresh rate are multiple of each other. My specs: R5 3600x. 32gb ddr4 3200mhz cl 16. RTX 2060 x570 motherboard Monitors: Lg 27gn750 240hz Lg 24mk430 75hz (runs at 60hz right now) Windows performance mode is set to AMD ryzen high performance. In ryzen master precision boost is enabled.

Hi, I have been trying to troubleshoot this monitor flickering problem for a few days now, and it is making me lose my mind. I was updating my drivers, and when I did, this flickering problem keeps happening to me. I am planning to upgrade to a new rig in the near future when new parts become available, I would just love this to hold on until then. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (Stock Cooler) GPU: Gigabyte RX 580 8GB MOBO: ROG Strix B350F Gaming RAM: 2x8 HyperX 3000mHz PSU: 550W Gold+ Monitors: 2x 240Hz Acer 1080p Monitors (I am currently on driver version 20.9.1. I rolled back from the most recent version because I was getting this problem. It hasn't gone away after rolling back. My Windows version is: 19042.630) I have tried: Rolling back AMD Radeon drivers Disabling Freesync on both monitors Adding (then removing) 30% extra GPU voltage (AMD forum recommendation) I have attached a video of my problem recorded off of my phone. I can't stand to look at my monitors anymore; my eyes hurt too much. It would make my year if anyone who sees this made suggestions/helped me out! IMG-4795.MOV

I recently built a system for someone and they are having an issue with monitors showing no input when the system starts. If both are connected to the GPU when system is started, neither show as receiving input. If you start the system with one monitor connected it displays fine and you can add the second monitor by plugging it in after the system has started. User is using one monitor via HDMI and one via display port plugged into MSI GTX 980. I have tried asking him to boot with no other peripherals, updated all drivers, checked cables, checked both monitors are listed and checkmarked in nvidia control panel, checked the input settings on the monitors themselves and I cannot for the life of me think what the issue could be, everything works independently, everything works together but just not if all connected at the point of start up. monitors are ACER Nitro GC241Ybii connected via HDMI Samsung C24F390 via displayport to HDMI cable Upon writing this I just realised he said he was using displayport to HDMI cable, is this possibly the issue?

I'm planning on getting a new desk for my room in a new apartment. I'm on a tight budget so I'm thinking on getting this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ameriwood-Home-Dominic-L-Desk-with-Bookshelves-Black-Oak/24216644 It's made out of all particle board, from my understanding. And I've heard they are usually 1/2in thick. My main appeal is that it's at $100, it has shelves, and it has a closed back with enough overhang in the back from the tabletop to clamp monitors to. Which I'm planning to do with a single dual monitor arm on the left side. My main concern is it's ability to hold it up over time and the fact that the middle section is held together by a screw plate with part of perimeter held up by the board legs. I just figure that from the videos I've seen and the pictures that the over hang and the closed off board pieces under it on the left side would provide enough support if I clamped them all the way to the left to prevent potential sag. Would this work? / Does anyone have experience with a particle board structure similar to this?

Hello, I have recently purchase a second monitor, one of them is 4k the other is 1080p both LG. I had the issue of only being able to travel from one monitor to the other at limited point of the monitor. i solve the issue by turning it in to a "4k" display in NVidia settings. since then every time I turn on my pc the 1080 monitor would show " No Signal Entering the power saving mode shortly. An incorrect DisplayPort version setting will cause the screen to be blank. If this occurs, make sure the DisplayPort version setting of your monitors matches the device its connected to". and both monitor will not display. I could solve this issue by disconnecting both monitors and connecting the 1080 monitor first then the 4k monitor. Please give any suggestions! thanks in advance

I’m looking to get a 28 inch monitor and I already have a 24 inch monitor, in which is still very good. The main one of course is going to be the 28 inch, and I want my 24 inch monitor on the left of it. But I wonder if it will look bad because of size difference, as different sized monitors like that usually don’t look too good. Just wondering what the Tech Tips community thinks on this idea!

Budget (including currency): $1000 USD Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General gaming and internet usage. Cod warzone, fortnite, Rainbow six siege, etc. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): the $1000 is for the system, and a keyboard, as well as potentially 2 monitors. Trying to target 1920x1080 60 to 75 hz on high settings. I've got a friend who is looking to get him and his little brother a desktop since they've only ever played on playstation and old laptops before, but their mom will be paying for it (something about good grades or something?) except the little brother has been calling the shots so far and I'm not entirely sure that what he wants is possible. As he described it, he wants 120-240 FPS (he never told me in what games, so that request is useless) and a '4g video card.' I asked him why the card specification and he responded 'so it runs faster and better' (I don't know why they put a twelve year old in charge of this operation, but whatever) I elected to ignore that and instead look at 6 and 8 gig cards. He also said he wanted to have 2 monitors, one for playing games on, and the other so that he can have a stream chat or discord open at the same time. Finally, they don't use LAN for anything, so the board is going to have to have integrated wifi, or a wifi adapter will have to be included. I have no idea if any of what he wants is possible at this price point. But here's another idea: if it's not possible to fit a well performing system in that budget alongside two monitors, I'm fairly confident I can convince him (or rather, his mother) that he doesn't need 2 monitors, and then I can use the extra money on the rest of the system if that would be a better alternative. Right now, this is the list I put together for if he's deadset on having 2 monitors: <link> and if I can convince them to just go for one monitor instead of two, I was looking at this one: <link> I know this is probably a lot to take in, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey guys, I want to hook up one of my older monitors as a second one for my workstation but I've run into an issue. Basically I have ryzen 5 2600, which doesn't have an internal GPU and an RTX 2060 graphics card which has only one HDMI port and three display ports. None of my monitors have a display port, so there's no way I can hook up both monitors into my GPU without buying display port to HDMI cable and since my CPU doesn't have an internal graphics I cannot run the image for one display from my graphics card and second one from my CPU. Is there any way I could somehow tell the GPU to send the image for my second monitor through the HDMI port on my motherboard? Maybe it's a dumb question, but I seriously couldn't find any other questions like this online. Thanks for the replies. Also, if you think of other solutions to my problem, don't hesitate to tell me.

Hi, every time my nephew comes over he wants to play FIFA 19 on my PC, but most of the time I need to use it meanwhile. I was wondering if it was possible to use my secondary monitor with my USB mouse and keyboard, while he plays FIFA on the other one with a generic USB joystick (using x360ce) simultaneously? My operating system is Windows 10.

Hi all! So I have seen a lot of advice and comments across the WWW about the necessary desk thickness to support a dual monitor arm clamp set up. However 99% of the time it seems to be people just suggesting they "don't think that will work." I am hoping for an answer from someone with actual experience (~: Good...or bad. The desk I am currently using appears to be made of particle board (I know, strike one). The thickness of the top piece measures 2cm thick or just over 3/4" thick (and yes...theoretical strike two). Currently I have two 24" monitors with stands on the desk, an ASUS VG248QE and an AOC G2460P. I could not find anywhere with the weights of these monitors listed WITHOUT stands attached so I have weighed them both and both are ~8.5 lbs (136 oz and 134 oz respectively). With the stands the ASUS is about 12.5 lbs and the AOC a little over 13.5 lbs. Most of the non-gas dual arms seem to come in at around 9.5 lbs meaning the weight would come out to approximately the same though it would be much more concentrated than it is currently with the two large bases partially overhanging and resting on the metal sides. FWIW if I move them off the sides into the middle I don't see any sag or sense that the table is under duress- granted the bases are still quite large. I have looked at a number of different monitor arm's and few if any of them list a minimum desk thickness. I have noticed some have much wider c-clamps and I would assume this would distribute the weight better. Similarly I have seen people mention that they have just added a book or piece of plywood to add thickness to the desk and have had that work ok. It looks like I could add up to another 1" of thickness on the underside without running into clearance problems with my keyboard (sliding tray underneath). Alternatively I could add the wood on the top but that seems like an ugly "solution".. I also wouldn't be opposed to drilling a hole to use a grommet mount instead, but I assume that is a bit of a no-no with particle board? All that being said, what are your experiences? Who has attempted this (or similar) and had the desk break or "sag"? also yes there is tape covering up the hole on the side of my Logitech G700s mouse because they refuse to repair (or sell me replacements for) the buttons that broke off. Thanks Logitech. The other blue tape that can be seen on various pieces of my set up is there because I just pulled all of this back out of storage.

dual monitors Laptop "Sees" Dead Monitors
alexsorian posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Disclaimer: this is my first time on this forum, i'm very sorry if there is anything wrong with this topic. So it all started when we were trying to plug a second monitor into a samsung laptop, the monitor has nothing special, its a VGA-only Asus monitor, and the laptop we are talking about is a Samsung NP300E5M. well, everything was going great, the laptop I/O provided us only with an HDMI port, but that's fine, since we bought an HDMI to VGA adapter. The issue appeared when we tried finally plugging the laptop to the monitor on the following order: Laptop > Converter > VGA cable > Asus monitor. Well, windows recognized a display plugged in, and would let us configure the display "normally" on settings, but there is always this small issue: the monitor is not plugged into any kind of power (unless ((if there is any)) the power coming from the VGA adapter and cable), whenever the monitor is connected to a power socket, laptop immediately stops recognizing the secondary display. We tried troubleshooting the issue ourselves, and we found that the issue may be on the laptop's I/O, because the same issue is present when plugging the laptop on a TV straight through HDMI, no adapters or VGAs involved. Is this a case of haunted hardware? how can we troubleshoot it more, or find a way to fix it? Thank you for reading this, i apologize again, i hope we can all discuss this and find an answer-

Hi, all- I'm planning to buy MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX and pair it with Ryzen 5 3400G. I already have two old monitors with HDMI and DVI connector, and I understand this board has these two ports. I don't have plan to buy discrete GPU cause I think 3400G is good enough for the system I plan to build (office work + multimedia + casual gaming). As the title said, will dual monitors work with this setup on Windows 10?

Monitor in question is VN247h, i have a gtx 670 running on W10. I noticed that videos and only videos ( even on browsers ) are much darker then they really are, thought that my monitor had shit colors. However, today i installed a second old monitor, and after messing around i ran a movie in a dark scene to compare colors, where i noticed that if it's in the middle of both monitors the colors are perfect . I tried messing with the Nvidia/monitor settings with no success ( maybe i did it wrong? ) . Video showing problem Current driver : 376.33 ( Dec 14th 2016 ). Edit : Nvidia video settings start working again somehow. maybe just a bug idk.

Hey, guys! So the thing is like this: I have a dual monitor set up and the main one it losing frames, as the title says. One of them is a TV 1080p 60 Hz and the other one is a PC monitor 1366x768 if I'm not mistaken and it's also 60 Hz or at least that says when turned on. The main one is connected by HDMI and the other one by VGA. I'm guessing that the issue is the VGA, but there're two problems: 1) the monitor that losses frames when gaming or watching videos, is the main one 2) I don't want to spend money on a HDMI to DP for nothing Thanks, guys! Ps: I know I should by a new one, but I'm from Argentina and it's expensive AF, LOL. Ps 2: my PC specs are at my profile //EDIT: Forgot to mention that I used to have this issue when I had my old GPU, the new one doesn't support VGA.//
