For a while I've been looking at the MSI Z790 Tomahawk WiFi, which seems like a good all-round board at a (somewhat) reasonable price. But lately I found out it doesn't have Dual BIOS (surprising as my MSI Z97 Gaming 7 from 8 years ago had it!), so I'm wondering if there are better options out there at that price point or even slightly higher? For what it's worth, I live in India and the DDR5 Tomahawk costs about 33,500 Rupees. It won't translate directly into USD/CAD as the import duties etc are different, but there you have it. The features I'm looking for: DDR5 Z790 (I'm getting a i5-13600K and am not ruling out overclocking down the line) Minimum 4 x USB 3.0 or better on the rear I/O Clear CMOS button & BIOS Flashback button on the rear I/O Dual BIOS (preferred, but can do without if it's something motherboard makers are simply no longer offering) Some form of EZDebug LEDs A power-on button on the board (preferred, but not mandatory) I don't care much for RGB lighting, addressable fan headers & stuff like that. I don't mind them but lacking those features is not a deal breaker for me. So, any good alternatives for the Tomahawk?

I have a Gigabyte GA-AX370-Gaming K7 motherboard. After being assured by another web forum (I know, stupid move, should have come here) that this mobo could be adjusted to run Win 11, I followed the tutorial to make the specified BIOS changes. Rebooted and BRICKED !!! No POST, just a black screen. So now, I'm trying to figure out how to go about recovering BIOS 1. Yes, happily, it's a dual-BIOS mobo. I have read several different methods on various sites, but no one seems to agree on a definitive method. Has anyone actually done this successfully ? If so, how ? Thanks in advance for your help. Oh, also, is there a certain level of BIOS required before enabling fTPM will actually work and not brick the mobo ? The one that I had on BIOS 1 was f10.

Hello! My motherboard is Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master. I've updated the main BIOS from F11n to F11. Everything was fine and was able to boot into Windows. Later I've observed that Secure Boot was disabled and I could not enable it (as required by Win11). It gave me the following message: "Secure Boot can be enabled when Platform is in User Mode. Repeat operation after enrolling Platform Key (PK)". So I took the following steps: Key ManagementPlatform Key (PK) Update / Yes / "Success". After that I was able to set Secure Boot Enable as <Enabled> After restart, the PC went dark! It would not boot either into Windows or BIOS menu. I switched the BIOS button to the backup position and the PC booted normally. Now I run my PC on the backup BIOS. QUESTION: How can I recover the main BIOS from the backup BIOS? *Resetting the CMOS didn’t restore the functionality of the main BIOS. *Holding CMOS Reset + Power On buttons for 10 seconds, then power on PC - Did not solve the issue.

Wanted to separate my posts around the b550-e, anyways here I go The power in my house isn’t the most reliable (sorting it out soon) and so I worry about the power cutting during my bios update (so I can use my 5900x). Does the b550-e have a dual bios / back up feature so if the install fails / power cuts It won’t brick the board? Thanks for the help in advance, Lex

I was trying to find the switch between performance mode and quiet mode on my tuf gaming 3060 ti, and I thought that the whole casing of the switch was the switch (stupid me) and I began pulling right, left and even to the other sides. It was with my fingernails, didn’t even think about using anything else. I ended up realizing that there was a tiny switch, so I used it. How likely is it that damaged something while trying to pull the casing accidentally? I don’t see any damage but the switch is mostly plastic so I don’t know how plastic is soldered to the pcb, and I’m worried that I damaged something in the soldering or plastic itself.

I had a failed OC. My cpu is ryzen 5 3600 and motherboard is Gigabyte X470 Aorus ultra gaming. I set cpu to 4200mhz from bios and didnt change voltage. After restart I failed to see anything in monitor while everything seemed to be running. I did reset CMOS,removed battery few times , changed ram and etc. And nothing happened. I took my pc to see what is causing this , only they narrowed it to cpu or board, mainly being mb problem. Now assuming that it is mb problem I will take it to a service center. But . . . Gigabyte has dual bios and I had to update my bios to be able to use Ryzen 5 3600. And I was trying to get more information about how dual bios works. It says if main bios fails, backup bios will work in factory settings. Unfortunately i dont have any friend with previous gen of ryzen to test this. But is it possible that my back up bios doesn't work (assuming that I have damaged main bios as some repair shop acclaimed) simply because it is not updated to work with 3rd gen ryzen?

I have an ASRock Z270 Supercarrier and used the Internet Flash utility in UEFI setup to upgrade the BIOS from 1.10 to 1.11. The upgrade process completed successfully and no errors were reported. However, when the computer rebooted with the new BIOS, it just hung with a blackscreen. I have rebooted the system over 20 times, with the same result. The boot process runs for about 15 seconds, the Dr. Debug LED settles on 09 or d0, and remains in that hung state. According to the manual, "after several failed boot attempts, the backup BIOS will take over" -- but this doesn't seem to be happening. It still boots from the active BIOS (BIOS_A_LED is on). I also tried unplugging the computer and depressing the clear CMOS button for over 10 seconds, but that didn't seem to have any affect. Is there any way that I can force a switch to BIOS B, or alternatively, downgrade BIOS A back to 1.10? The motherboard was working fine with 1.10 before I upgraded it to 1.11.

Hello, My AsRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer has a dual BIOS. I just restarted my PC on BIOS 1 minutes ago, and the motherboard gets stuck on the splash screen. However, BIOS 2 works fine. I was overclocked in BIOS 1. Any ideas? I upgraded my gpu about a month and a half ago, and had several driver compatibility issues. However, I doubt this is the issue because the thing has booted and worked just fine until today; so it's probably not the graphics card. Thank you for your help! Should I just clear the CMOS for both BIOS?

I have Flashed a bios F6 which sometimes whont boot and like cycle with F5 (backup)and F6 periodically. There is no physical switch. It just switches by its own. And it does what it want. Now I thought of flashing the latest bios. So I downloaded a working bios F5 and newest bios beta F20 or something like that. Falshed it ( it took 15 min) And boom it won't boot ever again. I push the power button, it shuts itself off after a sec. No display or anything.. Tried all way to kick the secondary bios in. I think now both are currupted... What to do now.. I don't have any GPU just i76700K and 16 gigs of ram 8gb *2 Kingston hyperx ddr4 I mainly use this machine for building android so its mostly running arch Linux.. Now there is no signal out of VGA and it won't turn on. Please help me..;-( Note - No hardware jumpers or switch to change the bios. But there is 2 bios. When I flashed bios I was having f5 bios which is, I think was in backup bios.

It seems that gigabyte is the only motherboard manufacturer who has motherboards with dual bios, they put it even on their low end motherboards, why don't other manufacturers have this feature? It's crazy how even now PC users have to worry about losing their motherboard in case of power outage during bios flashing. Is it so expensive to implement?

So I found an R9 270X Vapor-X, that someone was selling for way below the usual pricing for Europe. I was just wondering if he had done something to it or used it for mining, but he hadn't. The stickers and cooler all look brand new.

Hi, I've been using the Rx580 from XFX for the last year or so but till today I've been searching for the answer to the dual bios problem. I'm eager to know which bios should I be using for gaming and general overclocking as I guess the other bios mode is for mining. I've been keeping the switch away from the power connectors but unsure which bios is for which. I'll be more than happy if someone lets me know which bios does what and which one should I pick for my usecase. Thank you :D This is my card model : http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/amd-radeon-rx-500-series/rx-580-gtr-8gb-dd-led-rx-580a8dbr6

I just finished installing all the drivers on my new x570 gigabyte Aorus Elite, then proceeded to download the latest bios and updated it via USB, using the qflash option on PC startup. After it was done, the pc just refused to boot. I thought that was just tough luck, I'd have to wait for the Dual BIOS to do its thing. Well, for some godforsaken reason, it seems the 570 Aorus Elite doesn't have dual bios. I then went ahead and tried the qflash plus thing, which is how bios flashback works on gigabyte motherboards. No luck here as well, I loaded the original bios on a USB stick, stuck it on the rear usb slot marked BIOS, then tried pressing the qflash plus button on the mb, both with the pc on and off (with power connected obviously) and neither option has done anything. Someone please help!

I have a problem with the bios of my GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK motherboard. I am unable to use my primary bios i.e with dual boot off and bios one selected my pc wont boot up and goes into a reboot cycle. Although I am able to boot properly with dual boot on and secondary bios selected and the system has been working fine for me. But it being a new motherboard I would like to know what the problem is and how can it be rectified. P.S. While troubleshooting this problem I accidentally damaged a CPU socket pin and thus had the motherboard replaced for me and even the new motherboard they sent me seemed to have the same problem.

16/10/2015 Morning: My Pc was running fine. I got some windows updates installed, I didn't check what they were, got them installed after a restart and turned off my PC Afternoon: My PC entered boot loop at POST, it tries to get into the bios by itself but restarts immediately. What I've tried: Disconnected all SATA drives and peripheral devices. (Result: No change) Removed my GPU, connected my HDMI to my MOBO.(Result: No change) Tried a different RAM stick (from my old rig).(Result: No change) Tried to run my old RIG off the PSU I use for this PC, it works fine. Tried my RAM Stick on old RIG, it works fine. Tried to enter Dual Bios by holding the power button until a complete boot cycle and then pressing it again.(Result: MOBO didn't try repairing my main BIOS, no change ) Cleared CMOS by shorting CLR_CMOS and holding power button for 15-20 seconds with PSU removed (My mobo doesn't have jumper, it's just two pins I could find, took care of grounding, Result: no change) I can't find another LGA1150 Mobo to test my CPU (LGA775 and FM2 everywhere ) Made sure my MOBO standoffs are high enough to avoid shorting on pins on the back of my MOBO.(Result: No change) Cleaned Dust (Result: No change) I don't rely on random google search results or stupid forums where I'm told to clean dust properly, or try reinstalling windows or made to jump into the "OBVIOUS Conclusions" saying my components are dead. I am no expert, please advise me.Thanks in advance SYSTEM SPECS: Mobo: Gigabyte Z97M-D3H (rev 1.0) CPU: i7 4790 GPU: ASUS STRIX GTX 970 RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 1866Mhz CL 10 SSD: 120 Gb Samsung 850 EVO PSU: Corsair CX 500 (Non- Modular) HDD: Seagate Black 2 TB, 120 + 80 Gb WD (backup). Okay so i am targeting an msi 970, but there's a chance that ill have to go with a 960. I hate the idea of being stuck with 2gb ram, 3gb is a must for me and 960 4gb as far as i've read, isn't bottlenecked by the 128 bit bus thanks to the maxwell architecture, so it utilizes the 4gb well. I just want to hear some people clarify how good the 4gb with a 960 is. On to the main topic, i may be getting a 960 but if i do, it would be evga, the reason why is because of the dual bios. I want to flash the bios on the 960 so i can overclock better, but for anyone that does have a 960 with a bios flash, how good is the overclock? I'm hoping to achieve 780 level performance with a bios mod and overclocking on a decent cooling setup - i'll actually pair the 960 with an arctic cooler for good overclocking capabilities.

Hey guys, I really need your help. my little brother turned my pc off by long pressing the power switch because files transfers was not responding (So basically in the middle of coping something). Now when i turn the pc on, it goes stright to a blue screen that only says "gigabyte UEFI dual bios" on the top (see attached picture). after a few secondes it restarts and it loops stright back to that screen again and so on and so on. if i press the keyboard it does nothing, if i press the mouse i get a pointer but i cant do any thing! I've tried all i know: - unplagging all but keyboard + changing usb ports - clearing cmos from jumper and by removing battery - removing hardware and trying to post one by one I'm lost, please help!!! This post is simply a "help" for those who may have had the same problem as me with corrupt bios. I'm not sure if anyone have posted any information about this but I thought this would help anyone who is having any problems. I own the Gigabyte Z77X UD5H motherboard and last month, I had a problem flashing the bios and my main bios got corrupted. Some motherboard comes with dual bios (Main and Backup Bios) and this will help you if there is a corruption in the either of the bios. Some options that I searched was to press ALT+F10 or ALT+F12 right after the splash screen (logo shows up) for the bios to copy (F10 = backup to main and F12 = main to backup). However, this did not work for me as some people mentioned that your keyboard needs to be connected to a PS2 port and the timing was quite tricky. If clicking ALT+Fxx did not work for you, shut down your computer and from a cold boot, click the power button and keep holding it. Your computer should go to the splash screen and while holding the power button, a message should show up saying it is copying the bios from the backup; which at this point you can release the power button. (Takes about 5-10 mins I believe to copy the backup Bios) Please note: - You can try booting up from your backup, which should work. However, if you were to corrupt the backup Bios, I'm not sure what you can do at this point. (Maybe the community of LinusTechTips can help out even further) - You can also update the backup bios. With Gigabyte, I was able to do it through Q-Flash and I believe @BIOS software will work as well but needs to boot into desktop. - I tried clearing CMOS and taking out battery and this was no go - I tried only booting with one stick of RAM or no stick at all, still a no go I hope this can help some of you out there and avoid the amount of frustration that I had with the BIOS. Maybe if others were to post solutions if they had any errors, in order to help others, that would be great. Happy computing, b1ack1otus
