In my living room there's Archer C6, which is what my Archer C1200 in my room is connected to The Wi-Fi is fine I guess, just the Ethernet that seems to be the issue... The upload speed is weird but what I really wanna know is the download speed, it's only >100Mbps, if anything it should be way higher than that. Laptop: Asus X450CC LAN Card: Realtek PCIE Gbe Family Controller All the cables: CAT5E On my modem there's more than 1 port (4 ports to be exact), should I plug this router into that instead of Archer C6? Oh and this router is just another router, it's not acting as an extender or anything, just a router, tho my dad thinks that it is already set as an extender, even though all he did was just put "AP" in the SSID, I didn't wanna bother him with it so I just go on with what he says. In my living room there's a PC that is connected to the Archer C6, I haven't run a test on it yet but last time I download League of Legends through Garena and the speed was 40MB/s, so yeah, mine should as fast if not a tad bit slower Bonus questions: Should I turn this router into an extender or just use it as a standard router? I mean my house ain't that big and the only reason my dad decided to put a router in my room is because he saw me using an adapter just to connect to the Wi-Fi, and hey, I ain't gonna complain for a wired connection, I'll take that everyday (Sorry for not arranging this post neatly, don't usually write forum post and I just type what comes to mind) Edit: Nvm I lied, the Wi-Fi isn't fine, I just tried connecting to the main router 5Ghz connection and the result:

Hey friends I live in a rural part of New Mexico with very limited options for internet. Satellite internet or a local wireless internet service provider are my only options. Tried satellite and it was garbage. I get better speeds with this local wisp and better latency but it comes with major draw backs... Any way, I won't bore you with all the issues but I need help with a specific one. The way this wisp is set up I'm getting a double Nat and can't do any online gaming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My networking knowledge is very limited. If there's any way to fix this I would be greatly appreciative. Help?!?!? Network set up: Netgear R7800 running dd-wrt this is connected to a ubiquiti POE adapter that then runs to what I believe is a ubiquiti nano beam on the roof this is wirelessly connected to my wisps equipment on another property. The ip of my routers wan port is a private address in the 192.168.x.x range Lan port is in the 10.x.x.x range. Help?!?!?

This is a big problem and the explanation is going to be relatively big so strap yourselves in. Also its a bit of a story as well. I recently got a 100 Mbps up and 100 Mbps dedicated FTTH line from a local ISP for $15 . I have switched between over 5-10 ISP's in India. India is a country with a lot of people and extremely limited IPV4 allocation. ~ 35 million IP addresses for 1.2 billion people. As of Match of 2017, the amount of people with internet access soared to 420 million users, a quarter of it due to a revolutionary company called Reliance Jio, with 4G only, VoLTE calling, fully IPV6 ready networks. Unlike Mobile Network operators who flock to ipv6 due to heavy shortage, ISP's have clutched the egregious abomination CG-NAT aka Double NAT. As I mentioned earlier nearly all of the ISP's have so little IPV4 addresses that they universally adopted CG-NAT. Older ISP's who have enough IPV4 addresses either use Dynamic IP (which for me is fine) or still give out static as a standard. However by literal definition older ISP's are not providing FTTH instead still relying on DSL connections or false branding Vectorization DSL as V-Fiber. As all ISP's do, my ISP also has a paid Static IP service. However that is only available in a business plan. And the Business plans have Data Caps of about 250 GB for a 100 Mbps connection at a higher price. And the static IP charges alone per year is almost half as much as the yearly service bill. I just cant bear to live with a 250 GB data cap beyond which my internet goes back to stone age 512 kbps, a increased bill of almost 75% extra just for the "pleasure" of having static IP. My ISP is relatively small and although I would consider myself a noob in networking, those guys are even more so. I begged them to enable the support for IPV6. However they haven't bought any due to the fears that some of the equipment in people's home wont support it, it does not add value to the sales pitch, and they have to shell out for ipv4 NAT anyway. They pretty much said to me I am the only guy asking for this and its just absurd. I run a Plex Server in my Home. Since I am stuck behind CG NAT for the past year or two, Its useless other than for local streaming. At least during the time of ridiculous mobile network speeds I could have convinced myself to scrap the Plex idea. However I pay $7 Flat fee prepaid per month for 2 GB per Day 4G LTE only network ( with 90% network coverage all over India including rural areas with 100% coverage expected by next year). And I use 0% of it because I am behind a damn CGNAT and bored whenever I leave my house. I have already tried running a VPN as a default to Pure VPN's dedicated IP service and reverse SSH tunneling to my Network. It is super slow and slows down pretty much everything. Here is the scenario : 1) All expected client devices for the Plex Server support IPV6. 2) The server does not have access to an IPV6 address because the ISP does not support it. 3) I get a private IP address from my ISP and am not able to reach my network behind a NAT. 4) My ISP will offer little to no help whatsoever Question : What is the best fastest solution to expose my Home Network to the Internet ? If a solution that I have mentioned as already tried sounds the best to you and/or have a similar but faster approach please let me know. Thank you guys in advance

Hi all, While I like to think I am good with technology and computing, I do admit my one downfall is networking. I know enough, and probably more than most of the general population (Thank you, LMG). Having messed around with settings, I've decided to see what more knowledgeable people think of my situation. So, I currently live in a Student Studio flat, with no thoughts of leaving until I graduate. Each flat has it's own Ethernet connection of which students must buy their own router and connect it to the Ethernet port, should they want to use the internet that is included with the rent. I've now lived here for over a year and had plenty of time to experiment with settings to try and improve the internet. The internet speed is absolutely fine and excluding the daily 5 minutes of downtime that appears to occur, connecting to the internet is no problem. The issue I have could be considered a 'first world problem'. The way in which the network is set-up does have it's problems. For example, some multiplayer games will have problems during game-play with packet loss and latency variation, spiking from anywhere around 20ms up to 140ms (Sometimes WAY higher), back down to 20ms is a matter of a couple seconds. Rocket League is the main offender for this. All other internet browsing and even streaming video seems to be fine (Though, Twitch can have buffering issues occasionally). Further, my Xbox provides detailed connection information and informs me that the connect is a Double NAT. From my understanding, this occurs when a router is connected to another router. Obviously, there isn't very much I can do about this. One solution that fixed most of these issues was using my router as an access point. This reduced the number of connection errors I had during multiplayer games, Twitch no longer buffered as much as before and my xbox no longer report a double-NAT. I thought I had out-smarted the student block! However, I have concerns that perhaps this solution is a dangerous one from a security standpoint. My devices still require a password to connect, but once connected to my router (now access point), were now connected directly to the central router of the student block. I left this for a couple weeks, but today noticed that my Spotify Connect showed a PS4, not something that I own, never mind signed into. This, at first, made me wonder if someone had somehow connected to my router. I checked my control panel, no PS4 or unknown devices connected. Still concerned, I downloaded a network watcher, and as some of you were probably expecting, it came back with a list of ALL of the routers connected in the building, plus my devices and the PS4, of which the owner probably had the same problems as me with Double-NATs and ping. I have now gone back to using the router as a router, now my network watcher just shows MY devices and router. Sadly, this does mean that my Xbox will now remind me of my Double-NAT connection, Rocket League will time me out from matchmaking for disconnecting during a game and Twitch will buffer as it did. Does anyone have any solutions to this? I assume I should keep away from using my router as an access point? Shall I just suck it up, get over it and stop making such a fuss over having an internet connection that is probably more stable than half of the worlds? Many thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I'm kinda of a newbie here on the forums but I know who Linus is and I've watched a lot of videos so I kind of know some information when I need some tech tips even if I'm not a professional. I'm going to divide the topic on on a bit of the situation where I'm at and all so you can understand what's wrong or how did I got a strict nat type and a double nat type, at the end I will add all of the devices I use just in case someone needs to do a bit of reasearch on the devices, also I'm actually a console gamer just in case. A little background on the situation and my devices and my internet: So basically I don't have a normal ISP like anyone would think, my internet actually comes from a hotspot device which has a prepaid card from at&t and crazy as you may think why would I use a phone carrier as my ISP instead of a known ISP like Liberty or another common one you guys may use. Well the issue is after Hurricane María hit on my country, where I live we are supposed to get 10mbpsdown and 5 mbpsup and it never actually reached how it was supposed in my place we always got like 3mbps and we were with Liberty for years and they never came to our place to check the cables out or anything they treated us super unfair and rudely even if we paid 50$-60$ a month and now with the hotspot I just pay 30$ a month and I get triple the speeds I used to get from the ISP. But, I noticed now that I don't get the best out of my internet since I have a strict nat type and a double nat and I noticed this because when I'm downloading a game it sometimes jumps up to 120mbps or 150mbps for like 10 seconds and I constantly am receiving now is 20mbps or 30mbps so if I could just open up some ports maybe I could get more speeds and and just have an open nat type for me would be the best to be honest because it screws up when I'm playing with my friends and online. Also, I found information that the double nat type is because I have too many devices connected to it but I only have 2 main devices connectedness to the hotspot routers, one is a range extender from TP-Link that has a gigbit Ethernet port and the other is a really bad extender that I can't disconnect because it's for my parents. Below are the devices Something important that I should add is that the range extender I am using that has an Ethernet port is the one that is connected to my xbox, so when I try to change something I guess I should change something first on the extender then on my xbox, I mean thats what I think I should do I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or typing something wrong or anything. The devices: ZTE Velocity - this is the hotspot device, it's 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz capable but not simultaneously and I know there are better hotspots that have simultaneous Ghz I just don't have the money right now and I can't switch it to 5Ghz because the other device I have connected to it, the one for my parents, is only 2.4Ghz capable. The hotspot has tons of options I can manipulate like DMZ, Port Forwarding, UPnP, etc. So there's quite a few options on it and I have tried some of those but I'm not really sure if I am doing it right changing my Adress on the Xbox and on the internet or I don't know what else I am doing wrong. Heres the full link just in case https://www.amazon.com/ZTE-Velocity-Mobile-Hotspot-Unlocked/dp/B00O84PEWS RE650 - this is the range extender I use from TP-Link it's actually really good it can give 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz too but since it doesn't have a 5Ghz source it can't output 5Ghz. Not much to say here just putting it here in case someone wants to read about it and give me a few tips to what I can change or anything. (I'm also using a Cat8 cable to connect it to my xbox) https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/range-extender/re650/ TRINITYXTN - Now this is the other wifi extender I have been mentioning is only 2.4Ghz capable from what I have found and this is the one connected for my parents, it's a WiFi extender and a HDTV Antenna which we don't use, this is basically the main device we use for WiFi for anyone that comes home also, but it has no importance if I have to switch something from it to gain better internet just the fact of the double nat I have appearing on my xbox. And that's basically it, I don't know if I need to give some other information someone might need to help me out but if this really could reach anyone out here that knows more about this than me and would give a brother a hand it will be much appreciated really I was looking on how to contact Linus myself but I didn't find where to so I ended up here on the forums so I think this is a better way since someone could learn a thing or to from this post and a lot more people could get involved! So please if you need some other information I can provide I will be glad to give it to you so you can tell me what to do and what to change I will be very useful if you need something! I'll leave some pictures of the device and what my xbox appears to have.

Hi, I'm trying to enable remote access via my Plex server. I'm encountering the following error: Not available outside your network Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network. Learn moreTip: It looks like your server may be connected to the internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this "Double-NAT" scenario. Learn more I've tried fowarding the following port on my modem and router 32400 with still no luck. Any help on this would be great. Cheers Modem: Huawei HG659 Router: Asus RT-AC88U

Hello People, my question is about setting up a router behind a router. Reason: The Router from my ISP - i will call it black box in this context - is total garbage and i can't remove it. (Reason for that: Its a combo from 2 Modem +Router + Acces Point. 2 Modems because it combines two lines, one 8Mbit Wired connection + 22Mbit LTE wireless) Further information: I can't dissable DHCP, neither can i set a prefferd DNS. At least i can set up a DMZ and some Static IPs. Black Box --> ISP provided routeer Router2 --> Second Router So my Idea was to put another router after the black box. LAN -> WAN Dissabling the NAT on Router2 and activate the DHCP on Router2 and create my subnet with preffered DNS and everything from there. Could I run in Problems in that way? If possible, I don't want to deal with the mess of double NAT If additional info is needed, just comment. Any Information what i can do, to have very little Problems, or recommendations are very appreciated. Chris

Ok, here's my dilemma. I have 2 Wireless Routers Router 1 is my Cable Modem/Router (has wifi too but is disabled) its a NETGEAR CG3700EMR-100GES Router 2 is my Wifi Router (does the actual routing for connected devices) its a NETGEAR R8500 I do a lot of online gaming but i am am getting NAT-type strict or bad connection warning in many games. At the moment i have only port forwarded on my R8500 router, and i have a list of port forward on the Modem/router but not enabled it. (check the photos) So please tell me the best configuration for online gaming. If you need further screen caps of my router configuration im willing to provide that. This is what i have in mind, set the modem/router to bridge mode as it has the functionality on it and port forward on the R8500 or port forward from r8500 and let the modem catch it on the internet port and port forward it to the external ip address.(NOTE: the R8500 does not have an option for external IP address only the modem does.
