Hello! For my job, I have a laptop, and to be able to work from home, I received a docking station (Dell Dock WD19s). The docking station itself works very well, but I was wondering if it's possible to use the same docking station for my (gaming) desktop. Below are the specs: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x Asus ROG Strix X570-I Gigabyte RTX 3070 PSU Corsair SF600 (2018) I think I might need an adapter to make it possible, is that correct? I'm not sure exactly which one I need. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could provide me with tips in the right direction. I hope someone might be able to help me with this. Tobias Hoogers

Hi, i pre ordered the 16 inch Framework laptop with the Graphicmodul. Currently i use my gaming pc at home with 3 Monitors ( 1x 1440p 165hz, 2x 1080p 60hz). so here is the question is it possible to use only one compatible Dockingstation to game on the old Setup or is there some significant Performance drop. I search some on the internet and haven‘t found anything usefull on this topic. i have a dockingstation in mind that i want to use, the Dell WD22TB4. so please does anyone out there have worked with this kind of setup?

Hi all! It might be a stupid question, but I'm a newbie, so bear with me. So currently I have my work laptop connected with a single USB C cable to a docking station that provides power, peripherals control and monitor output by connecting the laptop charging adapter, HDMI and keyboard and mouse usb cables respectively. I will soon build a desktop PC that comes with a USB C, and now I'm already starting to imagine how the switching scenario between the two PC's would look like. My plan is to connect the desktop PC's graphics card with the monitor using a DP cable at all times. And whenever I want to switch from my laptop to the desktop PC, I would disconnect the docking station's usb C cable from the laptop, connect it to the desktop PC's usb C port, and swtich the input source on my monitor to DP. And I'm wondering: - has anybody done something like this before? - would this fry anything, i.e the desktop PC, the charging adpater and/or the docking station if I kept the laptop charging adapter connected to the docking station? Thanks.

I'm using a ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED (N7400, 11th Gen Intel) and have been trying to look for a thunderbolt dock that can a power my laptop fully (it takes 120W) and drive 2x 4k Monitors ( including usb ports for my keyboard, mouse, ethernet and maybe an sd card reader ) and i can only find one from HP. I then googled and found out it seems to be because thunderbolt only supports up to 100W but why then does HP have a dock supporting 120W and will i brick my laptop ifi use something that exceeds the spec of the standard does anyone have any suggestions? I'm completly new to this and i could really use some help, thanks for reading

Hello, I have a Samsung C49RG94SSU since today. I have connected this to my computer, this has worked without problems. For my work I also wanted to connect my laptop with a docking station (WAVLINK WL-UG69DK1-EU). The docking station is also recognized (mouse / keyboard / LAN), but the monitor is not. Both computer and latop is connected via a DisplayPort cable. I have already exchanged the cables to replace a defect here. I have connected the laptop directly with a dongle to the monitor, here via HDMI. The monitor is recognized in the settings and I can change the resolution to 5120 x 1440 pixels, but the monitor remains black. Displaying the image only on the monitor did not help either. On my old BenQ EL2870U everything works without problems. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Thank you Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Currently I have a Dell XPS 13 and I have discovered that I do not need the entire battery even with my reltiavely heavy use (I ususally have about 50 tabs of chrome open along with any number of word documents, zoom, etc). Dell does have a propriety power management tool but is there a more openly avaliable alternative? Currently I am experimenting with a schelduled smart plug being used for a chromebook that is used as a desktop replacment in a docking station 90% of the time. This is in an effort to make the devices last a bit longer since it is the batteries that usually die first in my experience.

Hello lads, I currently have my personal laptop ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 5 (14" Intel) and will soon receive MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) from work (yes, it's a startup and we're on budget ). I'm moving to a new house and I'm going to build a new setup/working station that is good for both my personal laptop as well as the MacBook. To do so, I need to figure out how I can easily switch between both using a docking station where I don't need to switch more than one cable (ideally have both connected). However, I'm not sure if there's such a docking station that support both systems. Can you please recommend how I can achieve this? and If it's not possible, what's the maximum I can achieve? My setup will consist: GIGABYTE G34WQC A 34" 144Hz Ultra-Wide Curved Gaming Monitor, 3440 x 1440 VA 1500R Display, 1ms (MPRT) Response Time, 90% DCI-P3, VESA Display HDR400, FreeSync Premium, Black (G34WQC A-SA)Portable Monitor 15.6, UPERFECT 2022 Portable Computer Monitor, FHD 1080P HDR Frameless Ultra-Slim Lightweight Gaming Screen with Foldable Kickstand, VESA, Mini HDMI 2 USB C for Switch Laptop PS4 XboxLogitech MX Keys Advanced Illuminated Wireless Keyboard for Mac - Bluetooth/USB Logitech MX Master 3S - Wireless Performance Mouse with Ultra-fast Scrolling, Ergo, 8K DPI, Track on Glass, Quiet Clicks, USB-C, Bluetooth, Windows, Linux, Chrome - Graphite Edifier R1280DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Optical Input - Wireless Studio Monitors - 4 Inch Near Field Speaker - 42w RMS - Wood Grain Appreciate your help!

I will preface this. I was unsure if this should go in peripherals or laptops. Hey, so I have come to the sad conclusion that I may need to get rid of my tower at home as I don't really use it as much since my laptop is much more convenient. I will include a parts list later on in post. I am teetering on selling my build and just running my laptop as my gaming station and my work machine. I have been looking online and can't seem to find a clear answer about a good docking station that runs on usb 3.2 gen 2 type c with power passthrough. What wattage is required to work? On top of that I would like to have at a minimum my dual monitor setup. I also would like to continue utilizing my VR headset and my keyboard/ mouse, etc. Is there a good resolution for this to just utilize my laptop to power a full workstation through one docking station? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. My Tower: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Asus Tuf Gaming X570 Plus WI-FI 32GB Patriot Viper DDR4-3200 CL16 Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500gb M.2 Samsung 870 Evo 2TB NVIDIA Geforce 1080 Founders Edition NZXT H510 Elite ATX Mid Tower Case 650W power supply from corsair(don't remember the exact model)

Hello guys, your friendly neighbourhood retard here. So I have dual 4k 60 hz monitors that I would like to interchange (with peripherals ofc) with my work laptop. The problem is that my motherboard only has a gen 2 usb-c out and my GPU only has hdmi and displayport outs. Furthermore, I have a small case (meshlicious) with an rtx 3090 in it, which requires me to use an anlged cable to connect to my graphicscard. This makes it troublesome to find an displayport to usb-c angled cable... xD (if my only option is to go with an displayport to usb-c i could certainly make that work aswell) 1. Can I use my Gpu out even for a dockingstation 2. Do most dockingstations just support hdmi/display out as input ? If there are anymore questions, I'll be glad to further elaborte. Thanks in advance for answers. :)

Hello, my job gave me 2 docking stations for my laptop at home, both supported by my laptop. They are the HP elite thunderbolt 3 dock and the HP usb-c dock g3. They have virtually the same connections, just VGA on the thunderbolt, that I don't need. Which one would you use?

Hey guys, i want to build a workplace for me and my wife and im looking for a dockingstation which can handle her Macbook Pro 2019 and my Thinkpad T480s (not at the same time ) The dockingstation should be able to use our two external monitors (in addition to the laptopscreen), instant detect the mouse/keyboard which is paired to the dockingstation and to charge the docked notebook. Do you have any recommendation? What should i take care of? FYI The monitors are no high end gaming stuff, regular 27inch 60Hz Thx in advance!

Hi folks, ive been fan of linus and silent reader on LTT for a very long time. I've always find the solution for my problem here but apparently not this one, that's why i create an account and hopefuly you guys can help me. I bought this HDD Docking from Orico, it came with 12V 2.0A adapter. The problem is, it doesn't seem to have enough power to spin my old HGST dan WD Drives. I can hear it spinning and then it stop, and it continue to spin again in a loop. And yes, its not the hard drive, the hard drives works fine if i plug it into my PC. However, some low capacity hard drive and SSD works just fine when i plug it in the DockingStation. Would buying another adapter with higher AMP rating will help? Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys, I need an advice from someone who’s more of an expert than me on the subject. I am a feature film assistant editor and I need to setup a workstation for quarantine. To properly work, I need 3 monitors, and my at-home machine is a 2016 15” MacBook Pro with a 2,6 GHz i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 2GB Radeon Pro 450 GPU. I have 3 24” 1920x1080 ASUS VZ249HE monitors (which have VGA and HDMI but not DisplayPort) and at the moment, I have them all connected to the MacBook (with the lid shut) with 3 usb-c to HDMI cables. To the 4th port I have connected a usb-c dongle with power delivery to which I connect the charger and an external LaCie hard disk. Mouse and Keyboard are via bluetooth and I have headphones connected with a 3.5 millimeter jack. The setup is working, but it is a bit messy and I wanted to clean it up as much as possible and with the least amount of cables. The question is: what are the best docking stations (if they exist) to which I can connect 2 monitors (I don’t think it is possible to connect 3 right? If yes that would be a dream), speakers, ethernet and that will charge my macbook WITHOUT using DisplayLink? (I need to use all the GPU power I have in order to work properly with media) If there is no such thing, what is the closest I can get? I am willing to invest a good amount of money in it if it would allow me to have all of that connected through one cable, the third screen connected with the HDMI to usb-c cable directly to the MacBook and the hard disk connected to the other port, leaving one port free for eventual additional disks. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi All, I have a quick question on a laptop modification I am working on. Is it possible to use a mPCIe to USB C card in my laptop and use the USB C connection to connect to a docking station with display and peripherals. The card is question would be something like this. https://www.sybausa.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=65_198&product_id=900 A quick background. I am new to building or modding PCs and I am working up my courage by modfying an old laptop I own a Lenovo Z580. The intention is to convert it to a full time desktop and have a docking station that can swap between this and another laptop as required. Thanks in advance for your help!

What can i connect to USB-C on my laptop s540
Smouky posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi, first time posting here, so i hope i am in the right topic Im looking for docking station mainly for desk so i can connect to it HDMI monitor and ethernet port. Smthing like But i havent found any info if my USB C connector is capable to transmit video output (im looking into 1080p@144hz) and ethernet (+keyboard and mouse). All i could find is USB-C 3.1 gen1 capable of 5gb/s. Is it only for data transmitting or it can do more things ? Is 5gb/s enough for video output at high refresh rate ? This whole situation about USB types is really confusing. Ppl have no idea what are they buying. Manual says only this: If i lookup accesories on website there is only bluetooth speaker. I have exactly IdeaPad S540-15IWL GTX 81SW I have posted this same question on reddit but they answered either i think it should work or i think it will not work, i mean i am grateful for every answer but it just added to my confusion and now i hate USB specification even more than ever Thanks -
in this difficult time where a lot of us are relegated to our homes for work we all grasp to find the perfect work from home set up. The problem i've run into has to do with my desk setup. I have a work laptop and a desktop as well as 2x 1440p monitors a keyboard and a mouse. I want to be able to dock my work laptop but share my peripherals with my desktop. Due to the use of a VPN i cannot use synergy to share my keyboard and mouse. One option i could think of is to use a usb switch hub and a dock this may work but could cause issues. Optimally i'd like to find a dock that has a built in peripheral switch with either 2 usb B ports or 2 USB a ports allowing me to switch between the 2 devices. it would be nice if they had HDMI or DP switches built in as well so i can switch between them but its not a big deal to switch both the usb hub and monitor input. Does anyone have any suggestions or ways around it?

So, I gues I just got it by haunted hardware myself. I have a Lenovo L560 for work. Its in the Lenovo Pro Dock. For the past few days, every few hours to every hour both my external monitors will tell me, that they aren't getting a signal anymore and turn off. Then I have to unlock the dock, unhook the laptop and put it back into the dock. So I went to the helpdesk and the technician told me that he had a similar case a few days earlier. He said, that the solution to that problem was that the other colleague used to put his phone on the laptop when not in use and that that was the source of problems. I thought that that was very weird and he also couldn't tell me how that would work but I started not putting my phone on the laptop aswell and the monitors stopped turning off. Then I acidentally put my phone on the laptop after using it and both screens went black. I tried to recreate it with my phone a few times and it broke the signal most times. To be sure, I tried putting a stapler and other similarly heavy stuff onto the laptop, as to be sure that is wasn't just a loose connection, but none worked. Does anyone have an idea why this could be?

I need something like a soundbar or dockingstation for my dad with lightning connecter and good sound. It should be simple to use and come with a wallplug to load the pad. Batteries would be nice but not necessary I'm open to suggestions, price is up to 200$. The only ones I found were for the iPhone Thank you
