Hi, looking for assistance in forcing laptop to "remember" to output to External Monitor upon boot, with no internal display connected. Laptop AORUS X7 DT V7 GTX 1070 Intel i7-7820HK Display Outputs: HDMI 2.0, Mini DisplayPort 1.3, Thunderbolt 3 Internal Display: 1440p / 144hz, 40-pin LVDS Ribbon cable. Internal Display is broken. I'm trying to have the laptop to boot and output display to an External Monitor only. With the internal display disconnected, the laptop will not display output to External Monitor. When the internal display IS connected, only then can the laptop output display to the External Monitor. Once into Win10, I can set display output to "Second Screen Only" and then disconnected the internal display. But if the laptop is turned off, the internal display has to be connected before turning on. Only then in Win10 can I change the output back to "Second Screen Only". Things I've tried that don't work: In Win10, Notification Tray >> Project, selecting "Second Screen Only". Upon boot, it seems like this isn't remembered with internal display disconnected. Used different cables: HDMI-to-HDMI, DisplayPort-to-MiniDP, HDMI-to-Thunderbolt. None work when connected to External Monitor only; Internal Display still must be connected before boot. Used a different monitor. Check BIOS to find display settings. Settings doesn't exist. Disabled/Uninstalled internal display drivers Can I enter BIOS with only External Monitor connected? Yes, I can enter the BIOS. But when booting Win10, laptop will not output display to External Monitor if Internal Display is not connected. Repair the Internal Display/Ribbon Cable instead? This is a Frankenstein project. I want to say Windows 10 is the problem here because laptop can boot into BIOS and output to External Display. It is only upon booting into Windows 10 that the External Display sleeps, thus laptop is attempting to find its internal display if not connected. Thanks, and any help is appreciated.

I am looking to replace a TV in my conference room at work due to poor response time and despite being 4 years old it does not like the PC connected to it. The PC used for 3d modeling showcasing, rendering showcasing and video conferencing for my engineering team. PC Specs i9 10900kf 64 gb ram 800 PSU RTX 4000 using HDMI to DP from the TV to the graphics card Looking for a good budget TV about 800 USD for a 65", an OLED would be ideal but not what my boss wants to spend. What are peoples thoughts for a fast response time for a TV? Right now we have to disconnect the TV for 5 mn, then plug back in for the HDMI to recognize what it is connected to, vendors spend 10 mn trying to connect with regular HDMI and its just been a nightmare so I thought what would Linus do and wound up here.

Thanks to everyone who will answer. 20240408_152857_1.mp4

Long read so be ready: I use my TV as the display for my media PC and sometimes I laugh, caugh or sneeze or talk and I leave small drops of saliva in the screen. After cleaning the screen with a microfiber cloth microfiber cloth (same used to clean eye glasses) and water, there was a stain in it that turned out to be either the Anti Reflective Coating of it or the Ultra Viewing Angle layer being removed. It was pretty visible when the TV was off or it was displaying fully black content with any other source of light in the room. I got this TV because of the great black levels it can produce and how bright it is for living rooms. I decided I would rather take consistency than keeping it the way it was and I tried different types of materials to rub the layer out, from softest to roughest. The one that gave me the best result was Paper Towels, the same you most likely use in the kitchen to clean stuff. It was taking way too much time and a lot of elbow grease so I actually used a polishing machine and put paper towels in the disc to complete the task. The result is a super glassy finish which I really like a lot. However, not everything is great because under some heavy heavy light you can see some micro scratches that look like smudge. It is not noticeable in a regular use but I can't take my mind off it and would like to finish the job with great success. I am thinking on either applying an oleophobic coating to the entire TV or buy another antireflective/protective film to get rid of the micro scratches. Similar to when the glue of the protective film of a phone fills the gaps created by a scratch with your nail due to a lot of use. I wanted to know if someone has applied an oleophobic coating in something big like an iPad or a table to know if it's feasible in a 50 inch TV and maintain a consistent application without more stains, smudges or something like that or if someone has any other recommendation. I will add pictures that show the 1.- Half way done process with napkins and hand work. 2.- Finished job while playing Warzone that show it's almost impossible to see 3.- Me polishing the actual screen in case you have any doubt. 4.- Picture with flash showing the "smudges" I hope someone from Linus Tech Tips team sees this and thinks of it as a great project for a video. Crazy ways or ways to remove a scratch from your screen and compare results.

Hello everyone! For some background context, I've been troubleshooting and trying to get HDR working for 2 months now... I had bought a new TV, two new PCs, new GPU, new cables. I'm slowly ready to rip my hair out by frustration.... ... Latest status: ordered brand new HDMI 2.1 cables to be 100% that the cables aren't at fault. After noticing nothing happened on ubuntu I switched back to windows for the third time but for the first time on this new TV. Windows 10 automatically installed GPU drivers and after a short screen refresh i automatically finally had HDR10! notif. From windows said it had automatically detected the display thus turned it on... radiating with happiness I went to get my HDD with HDR content to finally test it. As I came back 15 minutes later, HDR was off, and I could not toggle it on in the settings no more. It is supported but as soon as I toggle it the screen flashes dark and HDR turns itself off after less than a second. I had suspected the Windows updates had caused this, so I reinstalled win. Again, but this time the first thing I did was disable and block ALL Windows updates. HDR worked again... as I went into settings and changed the res. From FHD to 4k > HDR immediately turned itself off again. It couldn't be turned back on again, same as before. What is causing this!? Could someone please help find the source of this problem? I've been working on my home cinema project for over a year now, and I find it ridiculous i have to troubleshoot a base feature of a high-end TV for 2 months… I would really like to finally finish this project. TECHNICAL DETAILS /specifications: PC: current gpu: AMD RX6400 4GB HDMI 2.1 ITX (previous: gtx 1050TI ITX) cpu: Intel I5 6500 mobo: Asus B150I PRO gaming aura ram: 16GB DDR4 2133Mhz psu: bequiet! poer 9 500W SSD: 500GB crucial MX300 sata 2.5" HDD: WD mybook 8TB (WD RED) Windows 10 Pro AV/R: Onkyo TX-SR393 5.2 HDR / HDR10 / Dolby Vision / HLG ARC current TV: Hisense E7KQ 75" QLED 2023 HDMI eARC HDR / HDR10 / HDR10+ / Dolby Vision / HLG previous TV: Samsung UE58NU7179 LCD 2018 HDMI ARC HDR / HDR10 / HDR10+ / HLG in TV settings HDMI mode: "enhanced" firmware: up to date (otherwise apparently the TV cant achieve HDR) I heard HDR auto-detection could be causing this some more proprietary settings and formats from the TV manufacturer because "why not" :)... And maybe also some Windows drivers that are being installed automatically? All help appreciated and thank you in advance!

NEW BUILD PROBLEM I am running into an issue where my new build isn’t booting. I built the PC out of scraps from previous builds. All components are good and have been used on previous builds for testing. I put everything together and now my ram and usb devices aren’t being detected. I have gone through every troubleshooting process I can think of and have hit a wall. The only new component I have bought was a new GPU (only purchased because I wanted to check out the 40 series). Here is a list of the systems specs; intel i7 4780k asus z590-a motherboard PNY 8gb RTX 4060 (brand new just purchased) 16gb of ddr4 ram 1.5 tb of storage 700w power supply

Hey all, I recently built a new PC and upgraded to Windows 11. I have 2 displays connected to my GPU (RTX 4070 TI SUPER) and I am constantly encountering this issue where I keep hearing connected disconnected sounds from PC. After checking all the USB ports, I found out that the issue was actually with HDMI. I have tried another cable but the same issue occurs. Basically the connection/disconnection keep happening randomly and the whole PC stutters/lags for a second or two. One of my displays is connected via Displayport to a G9 Odyssey running at 5120x1440 at 240Hz and the other display is an LG C1 OLED running at 4k 120Hz. I usually use one or the other exclusively and not both at the same time. This issue occurs only when I am running on the monitor and the HDMI is connected(doesn't matter the TV is on Standby or not but it usually it is on Standby). I have searched and tried many solutions but to no avail. To solve this issue I plug out my HDMI when using my PC monitor. When using my TV display as my only screen, this issue also doesn't occur. Only when HDMI is plugged in and I am only using my Monitor. Any suggestions or ideas what could be the issue? My PC specs: CPU: 7800X3D MOBO: ASROCK X670E STEEL LEGEND GPU: RTX 4070 TI SUPER

Hi all, I'm really lost for ideas to test at this point. Any ideas would be amazing! Overview: Using latest Asus strix laptop (2023, I9 / 4080) as a desktop replacement. The system is set up connected to external Samsung ody8 4k monitor + all peripherals (KB/Mouse/Mic/Headset). The system is set up in performance and or turbo mode, and always plugged into power. **The laptop is configured to only show monitor 2 (external screen). have not changed and or modified any color management programs native to the laptop or Asus issued apps. Issue: randomly the color or visuals on the external monitor go vivid and warm tones are exaggerated. When i grab a test window and drag it to the laptop screen it refreshed the window only* (blinks once) and the color on said window is normal tone again. and vice versa. Temporary fix sometimes: I noticed when i do a clean reinstall of the latest Nvidia drivers, this can sometimes fix this issues for a while. sometimes like today it does nothing but waste time. I've Tried: new HDMI cables, different monitor ports, restarts, driver reinstalls, checked all color management app or locations in widows. I'm really lost to why this happens, I'm sure its a driver issue. but where is it going wrong. and why is a temporary clean install fixing it? I feel like there's a color profile changing somewhere but i cannot seem to find a clear path to or if that location exists. Please tell me I'm not alone here haha. Cheers Daniel.

Hello I have a N100 Mini-pc that I would like to have running in a remote location. Is miracast 2 the best way to connect it wirelessly to my main monitor? Is there other alternatives or free ones?

I have done some research but can’t find a real definitive answer. Here is my question I’m needing a new Monitor for a system I’m finishing building. That Will be used For mainly gaming/streaming/3d editing ryzen 9 7900x, 4090 is it better to have a lower resolution like 1440 (240)hz or a 4k (60) lower Hz I have a few monitors in mind and not wanting to spend a ton of money at the moment 300-500 (want to get it running)

Im looking to get a 240hz monitor and was hoping for help and suggestions. Im looking for a 1440p, 240hz monitor with very good colour accuracy as I will be using it for light editing work and gaming, Doesn't require HDR and the editing is nothing fancy just short form videos mostly so doesn't need pro specs by any means. my budget is around 500 obviously id prefer to keep it cheaper if possible but willing to go up to 1k. Im based in Ireland if that helps at all for getting an idea for pricing. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this I'm new to the forum. Thank you for the help.

I won't lie, I love my Apple Studio Display, it's the best peripheral investment I've made even beating out my Logitech MX Master and Mechanical for Mac series peripherals. Impeccable visual fidelity Built in charging via USB C Built in speakers that sound really good (relative to monitor and laptop speakers) Built in camera and mic that just work While not a specification item, I truly do love that its made of glass and metal on the exterior for the most part giving it an incredibly durable look and feel But as much as I love it, I can't help but think Apple could've changed a few annoyances and made it truly the best display on the market (not best bang for buck, just best in general for the general consumer market). Removable power plug, like really, I shouldn't need a special tool to remove it Better quality camera, there should be plenty of space for it Increased compatibility with Windows (a lot of us Apple users still use Windows, I personally keep an Intel MacBook Pro around just for Windows and playing games, even when the Intel Mac was my main machine I still duel booted it so I could play the occasional PC only game) 60Hz refresh rate for the price feels a bit low, like make it 120Hz I honestly feel if Apple were to make these adjustments in an Apple Studio Display 2 they could have potentially the best consumer computer display, especially when it comes to being a simple two cable plug and play operation.

These 2-3 lines (horizontal, single pixel thick) have appeared in the bottom of my gaming monitor (AOC 24G2SP 24″ FHD IPS Panel 165Hz). The picture has been linked at the bottom of this post. They appear to be as green / blue, however, the color changes depending on what color the rest of the screen is. The lines completely disappear when the display is all white. I have checked all the cables, my GPU, and any other software related concern. The issue still remains. What could this indicate guys? Monitor was bought in May 2023. It's still under warranty, however I have lost warrany information due to moving places, and I live in a country where AOC does not have any "official" resellers, I got this through a relative coming back from the USA. I recently got my PC it's been a month now, and I randomly got screen tearing one-day mid-game, and has been going on ever since, I've deleted the drivers and installed old/new ones I've taken out the GPU which is a (rtx 4070) reinstalled it, I've reset the pc , it goes away for a brief seconds but seems always to come back . I thought it was my monitor but I plugged in my PS5 setup monitor and then the problem still happened so I knew it was not a display port or HDMI issue. I've been stuck on console playing, The same monitor screen tearing I plugged into my PS5 and they work perfectly fine . I would love some help before I have to call NZXT to return my purchase

I have been having this weird artifact after i transitioned from an HDD to SSD by using DiskGenius. Did my Windows get corrupted? I'd really hate to reinstall windows. here's the recording. I suspect my GPU, but I can't really tell anything. https://youtu.be/HYoXPys875M it affects my wallpaper only, but it's a nuisance.

My grandfathers PC has been working just fine with this monitor for months. One day it flickers, and finally goes to simply stating “no hdmi input”. Monitor works just fine with other computers, even with the same cable. The computer works brilliantly with other monitors, including my personal Dell. For some reason his computer and his monitor simply refused to talk to each other. So finally we decide screw it, let’s buy him a new one. A Dell S2721HN. Same problem. Scans for signal, then says no hdmi signal from device. I’ve done driver updates and reset the PC’s Bios, all the windows updates, swapped cables, ports, the whole 9 yards. Still no dice. Short of buying him a new computer, what might I be able to do to get this thing working?

Howdy! I've recently bought my forever home and I want to make my living room desktop setup as clean as possible. The main thing I want to do is put my PC in the cellar, and just have a desk with display, mouse and keyboard in the living room. (maybe cellar isn't the right word, it's more like a completly underground floor, including a garage) There's plenty of space, it's dry, it's cool, it's the perfect place for computer equipment. I've seen the devices on the Chinese wholesale websites, HDMI over ethernet and such, but those devices only support a refresh rate of only 60hz at 1080p or 30hz for 4k. I would like a device that let's me plug in HDMI/DisplayPort on the PC side and on the monitor side, and connect the two with ethernet or whatever cable it requires. I recall Linus having a 'remote' setup like this, it's there a list of devices involved?

I have given away my old Dell U2414H. Need a replacement display for use strictly in portrait mode. I game only on my 27" 1440p 165Hz Gsync display 24" 1080p, flat, good for text, not glossy. Preferably better refresh rate or even Gsync compatible (idk if this will even matter) Which should I get? Dell P2419H, 60Hz, $111 Dell S2421HS, 75Hz, $140 MSI Pro MP242P, 75Hz, $140 LG 24MR400, 100Hz, with replacement adjustable stand, $140 LG 24GN65R, 144Hz Gsync compatible, $165 Some of them have Freesync. Not mentioning because staying with Nvidia and only the Ultragear (24GN65) is confirmed to be Gsync compatible If you have knowledge/experience with any of the models mentioned, do let me know. I am in South East Asia.

Hello, just a simple question: I‘ve found this trick to fix the washed out colors in SDR when HDR is enabled , i guess…. https://github.com/dylanraga/win11hdr-srgb-to-gamma2.2-icm?tab=readme-ov-file So when i understood this right, SDR content will look good on an HDR monitor? So how can i select the SDR-fix color profile when i disable in window HDR and a standart profile when HDR is enabled? Make that any sense? Is is possible to cange the color profile with windows task scheduler or a batch file? Thanks for your help!

I am trying to configure my desktop to run Sunshine stream server so I can play games on my TV. I got it all working for the most parts. The last remaining issue I am trying to figure out is how to get the EDID dummy display to not be included with the other monitors in the Windows desktop. I had seen a number of posts on YouTube and on various forums that show in Windows 11 there is supposed to be an option called "Remove display from desktop" under the advanced settings of the display properties. When I go to the display properties on my machine for any of the monitors that option doesn't exist, It's just flat out gone. As I started looking for answers I was wondering if this was a feature that was disabled or removed in my version of Windows 11. My desktop is running release 23H2. As a comparison I checked my work computer which is running 22H2. Low and behold the option is present in the advanced display settings. So, now it begs the question, what is going on here? Does anyone know how I can get that feature back on my desktop? Is there any 3rd party software that can replace what appears to have been removed? Perhaps an options deep inside of windows that can do this like a PowerShell module or a registry key?

So basically I enabled secure boot in my BIOS saved and exited. I then proceeded to wait for my pc to boot up 1 minute goes by 5 minutes go by and 10 and so on. I went and checked it restarting it and it still wouldn’t boot up to bios or windows even tho the pc turns on and everything lights up fine. I took out the CMOS battery and shorted the CLR_CMOS pins like many suggested online yet it still wouldn’t boot up to windows or BIOS. My monitor and HDMI cable work fine when I tested them with my console. I don’t know what to try next I also tried booting up with no gpu or without the CMOS battery but nothing worked and now it still turns on but doesn’t boot anything. The fans also speed up and slow down in a loop if that is a giveaway for any problem. If anyone knows the problem or solution I would be more than grateful to try out ur ideas!
