  1. Every time I turn my PC on it says 'scanning and repairing drive'. I am using a WD Blue nvme m.2 ssd and I do click shutdown when I turn it off not unplug it or anything. Can someone help please?
  2. So basically, I plugged in another SSD into my computer because I am going to install another OS on it, so I launched Windows to check it worked and then I went to clean it. I removed all disk partions and made one big but now the disk only shows up in Windows and not in the BIOS or any other place. It's disk 2 I need. I think I did something in the Disk management window and somehow broke something. Both the D drive and E drive are gone here, though I don't really care if the D drive doesn't show up.
  3. Hi! I just hosted a free Minecraft server on a website and i was just wondering is 5GB of disk space gonna be enough space for me and my friend to play Minecraft survival on, no mods, pure vanilla, and maybe some command blocks. That's it! So, there is gonna be max 3-4 people on that server. Thanks for helping me out!
  4. So today randomly i had a thought of finally converting my media drive to gpt as i want to be have latest technology on my things but i know it doesn't really affect performance much Diskpart was unable to do so i tried minitool partition wizard which succeeded both in making it logical and then gpt as well from mbr but now i am worried if it had something to do with my boot drive because that's generally primary and not others but in my case it's not, as you can see in the SS I also didn't find the option to convert my C drive from logical to primary in minitool so i am really worried if windows would stop booting when i restart my pc because i changed my d drive to logical after taking this SS
  5. I am facing one problem and looking for a solution. In my desktop PC I am currently, having: 2TB Western Digital 2TB Toshiba 1TB Western Digital 2TB Seagate All drives are connected to my MBO in desktop PC via SATA III connectors. Moreover, I am planning to buy a home NAS server with 4 or 5 drive bays. But, the problem is, as specified from the title and above, I have 4 different HDDs. How can I have a copy or clone all of them to I do not know if that's possible either? Planning for a long time to buy some NAS and have 4x HDDs (IronWolf Pro) with the capacity of 2TB (at least) and put them into a RAID 1 mode (if that's the good one I need?). But before that, I do not know how can I move or duplicate data from all of my 4x HDDs around? What software to use and how do do it without losing all of them in the process? Should I use Acronis software for that or what other? Moreover, I have not yet used it so I do not know much how to work with ti at all - have to try out on Virtual Machine first ... Also, would like to know if there is possibillity to have data in Cloud? If so, what are the costs of it? Moreover, I believe I would need a month to take to upload my HDDs to some cloud on my internet connection speed at home Any advice and information appreciate! Thank you!
  6. Hello all, I have SuperFetch (SysMain) disabled on my PC. I am running a Seagate 2TB HDD. Here are the Metrics for Disk usage. Is this Normal? I get pretty sub-par performance browsing the system, However, I get very good performance in ANY game I play. ie 115fps DOOM Eternal - 90fps Far Cry 5 - 80fps GTAV. Is this the effect of using an HDD instead of an SSD? my last PC had Windows installed to an SSD, with games loaded onto the HDD. That PC was MUCH snappier. uh anyway, Thanks in advance. I guess I just need to confirm if using an HDD for a boot drive actually makes that huge of a difference. ~Seven
  7. My PC is very space limited with two pretty old SSDs. I'm considering spanning a volume onto a another disk using Disk Management in Windows 10 Pro, having never done it before. I'd be doing this so that I can install PC games that are larger than 100GB. Currently I can only install games of 65GB or less on C Drive. My Current Setup: I'll make sure to create a full system image of all volumes beforehand. Can I created a spanned volume by extending the C Drive partition to D Drive while keeping the OS intact? Any other tips for this? Thanks
  8. Alright so i couldnt figure this out myself and google also didnt help, neither did a restart. What i did was try to shrink a volume so that i could add another partition in windows' 'create and format hard disk partitions' app. However after i changed the size i wanted, etc and clicked ok, the window froze. i left it for a good 30 minutes, and as i wasnt making that much of a change to a relatively small drive and as such would definitely not take that long, i closed the window and tried to reopen it and see if that would do anything. However it couldnt connect to the virtual disk service or something to that effect. Restarted pc, and now the drive in windows file explorer has shrunk to what i wanted, however in the partition window i used in the first place to shrink it, its showing the volume as not shrunk even though its not full capacity, will attach screenshot for reference. Is there anyway to resolve this without w iping the drive as i dont have any space on other drives to back up data. Hopefully its not just me being a moron. Thanks in advance for any help given.
  9. Hi guys, This tutorial applies for any version of Windows from XP onward in regards to the actual program. However, finding it on XP can be difficult as it lacks the search box on the start menu that Vista onward has. You know how you can eject external USB devices? Flash drives, external HDD's and such, so that when you remove them, nothing bad happens? The same can be done with an internal HDD. Thus allowing you to remove it without powering down your computer with minimal risk. Firstly, you want to press the start button. Then type Disk into the search box and click "Create and format Hard disk partitions". Illustrated here: Then, you want to right click the disk you wish to eject (usually you can tell by size, but if you have multiple ones of the same size, right click and click explore to make sure it's the one you want), then click "Offline". Then I give it about 30 seconds to power down, and I remove the HDD. Illustrated here: You can also use this program to partition HDD's, create Virtual HDD's (outside of a Virtual Machine), and format drives. However, I don't think many know about the Offline feature of this program. I think it's pretty cool honestly. Hope this helps those with limited time or special conditions who need such a thing (i.e. you can't turn off the computer, but need to remove an HDD for something, or your lazy, like me ). I do not suggest installing an HDD while a PC is powered on. I've created many bricks by trying that. 90% of the time it works, but ... losing 500GB worth of data (my personal experience) due to a burned out PCB just sucks. Anyway, hope you learned something. Vitalius.
  10. Hey! So I got my SSD to boot up after I clone my HDD to it. Booted up normally and looks fine, but when I go to my file explorer I can't find my HDD, same with Disk Management. I only see my SSD. When I go to the BIOS, I can see it on the boot priority menu. So, I decided to boot from my HDD and it works fine, no missing files and no damages. So, what happened when I boot from SSD? Anyone can help? EDIT! THANKS FOR ANYONE WHO HELPED ME DURING THIS PROCESS OF MIGRATING MY HDD TO SSD! FINALLY GOT THE THING TO WORK NOW, I JUST NEEDED TO PLUG THE SATA CABLE TO THE OTHER PORT AND GOT IT WORKING. HOPEFULLY THERE'S NO MORE FUTHER PROBLEMS! THANKS YOU GUYS!
  11. Ramdisk The ramdisk guide. What is a ramdsik? Ramdisk uses system memory as mass storage. Since system memory is fast, doesn’t wear down over time like NAND flash, is a lot faster and clears when the computer reboots or shuts down. Usecases temporary, fast storage device download drive cache drive Benefits reduces the amount of file system fragmentation reduced wear-and-tear of the physical disk / SSD less junk on the hard drive / SSD less noise and heat from the hard drive Be aware that the content of a RAM disk is permanently deleted as soon as it is ejected! Only use it as temporary storage! Software Windows ImDisk (free) SoftPerfect RAM Disk (free) Primo ramdisk / Vsuite Ramdisk (demo, paid) Dataram Ramdisk (demo, paid) AMD Radeon RAMDisk (same as Dataram RAMDisk /w AMD branding) AsRock XFast RAM (free) I would highly recommend using ImDisk. It’s free, open-source, doesn’t have size limitations and supports saving the ramdisk as a file on the HDD if needed. OS X iRamDisk (paid) RAMDiskCreator (free) Terminal (look below) TMPdisk This will create a 250MB ramdisk, you can change the size by chaning the “512000” value. The size of the disk is based on the number of 512 byte sectors. That means the size in bytes has to be divided by 512. For example to calculate the size parameter of a volume with 4GB, the following formula is used: You can also create a ramdisk with a terminal command, but I’ve been using iRamDisk since it can re-create the ramdisk on boot and use wired memory (can’t be written to HDD if the system runs out of memory, so no cache files will never be written my boot drive. I did not include Linux in this post. Sorry about this, but I do not feel like telling somebody to do something that I haven’t done myself nor have any experience with. My personal setup (OS X, hackintosh) When booting, my computer creates a 256MB and ~500MB ramdisks, one for browser cache and one for temp files and browser downloads. The browser cache directory is symbolicly linked to the cache storage directory, which will "redirect" the files to the ramdisk, instead of saving it on the HDD. Symbolic links for browser cache: For Safari: ln -s /Volumes/cachedisk ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari For Chromium: ln -s /Volumes/cachedisk ~/Library/Caches/Chromium For Firefox: ln -s /Volumes/cachedisk ~/Library/Caches/Firefox Hopefully this was useful for some of you and any feedback is greatly appreciated. Updates: 26-01-2014: added TMPdisk, which I'm currently using. 20-03-2014: Added Automator script for easy ramdisk creation on OS X.
  12. Hi, I am currently going through and purging my files. In my disk management I am seeing all of these healthy smaller disks for 200-500 MB roughly. I can not delete the volumes or deactivate them. Also the 16.94 GB section doesn't let me do anything on it either. When I right click on it, all I get is the help option. Is there a way to get rid of all of those other smaller partitions and just expand the large section over the top of the other ones? When I try to expand the Data Drive section, it just lets me know there isnt enough space on the drive to do so. I appreciate any help thank you!
  13. Basically the title. Can a used xbox 1 game DISK, specifically the disk and the rights to use the game on it, be resold?
  14. I have recently bought a 8GB ram stick. I previously had 2x4GB ram sticks in slot 2 and 4 of my motherboard (same colour slots for dual channel). It started giving me errors, the red lights on the motherboard would light up for DRAM. then for VGA, and it eventually got fixed after fixing the ram better in slot 1 and running the memory setup, although I still cannot explain how I got it to work as I have done absolutely nothing other than keep resetting and choosing to go into the bios without any changes. Computer ran smooth, it recognised that I had 3 out of 4 slots occupied and 16 GB of ram. The next day, I run into a "disk read" error and then it changed to "Select proper boot device" . I have Windows 10 installed on my Kingston 256GB SSD, and it worked pretty well until now, the SSD is 6 months old at best (bought it in July). I have looked into BIOS and it is first priority in the booting list (set as "UEFI Hard Disk"). Right now, the only solution I can find is re-installing Windows, but I really want to know how my RAM can mess this whole thing up. As of now, ram setup is like this: My motherboard has 2 black slots(slots 2 and 4) and 2 white slots(slots 1 and 3) - the black slots are occupied by my 2x4 GB Hyperx Fury DDR4 2133MHz, and slot 1 is taken up by my Hyperx Savage DDR4 2133MHz. I have read that it is not necessary to use dual channel on a dual channel motherboard, but I haven't found any instance in which there were 3/4 slots used. EDIT: I should also had that I had bought the ram from a friend, so it had been in use before. He made sure to ask me if my other ram sticks were DDR4 at 2133MHz. Specs: Windows 10 motherboard: 150M Bazooka (has dual channel) Geforce GTX 1660 Intel Core i5-6402P ZM600-LE 2x4 GB Hyperx Fury ram cards DDR4 2133MHz 1x8GB Hyperx Savage DDR4 2133MHz Kingston 256GB SSD WD Blue 1 TB HDD
  15. Basically, when I was setting up my SSD I was being a goof, wasnt paying attention and made a partition that is only 2GB instead of two TB.
  16. Hi there, I just bought a Samsung 970 Evo plus 500gb NVMe m.2 SSD for my pc. I wanted to replace this with my old SATA m.2 so I had to reinstall windows. While at it I also clean wiped all of my other disks. I have a Asus z170-pro gaming motherboard with only 1 m.2 slot. Now I know that when you have a SATA m.2 connected the SATA 1 port gets disabled, so in my old config i wasn't using either of the SATA express slots (slot 1 and 2) an it worked fine. Now that I connected my new NVMe m.2 I put my other disks in order in the SATA slots, also using 1 and 2. This is working fine because an NVMe m.2 goes through PCIE and not SATA. Now the problem I'm having is that when all disks are disconnected, except for the m.2 it shows up as disk 0 if I look in disk management. But when all my disks are connected it shows up as disk 3?? (see screenshot) (Disk 3 here is my 500 GB m.2, the disk 0 is my other Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB SATA SSD, here connected to slot 1) Is this a problem? Or is it working fine? I also had to manually set the other partitions for the other disks as I couldn't right-click and click 'New Simple Volume'. I would really appreciate the help! Maybe I have to change some BIOS settings? Or some cmd magic? I hope to see a response! Thanks, Iwan
  17. I'm thinking about installing CrystalDiskInfo however I'm not sure is I should download the Shizuku edition or the Kurei Kei edition. Which do you recommend?
  18. Hi, I'm getting an error while downloading media on Whatsapp that says, "Can't download because no internal storage is available. Please unmount it as a disk drive, and try again." I'm not sure what the problem is as I have a 16gb SD card as well as 5gb free on my internal storage. My phone is a Hisense U962
  19. Does CPU affect disk access times? I need deep explaination to prove im right to my dad
  20. Hi, I currently have 2 WD drives one of which I've already packed for an RMA, however I am not sure whether the second is worthy of an RMA as it hasn't yet failed. The first drive was a WD 2.5" 750GB HDD of which the smart test results are shown below (please excuse me not using crystal disk or something but I just used the smart of speedfan and noticed how bad shape the drive was in that I didn't even bother installing crystal disk.) Upon removing the first drive I was clever enough to backup all of my data to my removable HDD, due to my wonderful luck and fortune the disk seemed to go corrupt or something and the file format turned from NTFS to RAW for some reason. I then had the wonderful experience of recovering all my data (which I did, hats of to Recuva) I then downloaded crystal disk and it is showing a caution due to the current pending sector count. Is this a suitably large enough error to RMA this drive to Do I RMA my drives? Disk 1: WD 2.5" 750GB HDD - pic that isn't using crystal disk Disk 2: WD MyPassport 1TB external drive - Crystal disk pic Thanks, TheCommentator123

  22. Hello- I am wondering what it would take to re-purpose an old disk shelf to use as storage for Freenas. I'd like to use 4TB SAS drives, as they are readily available on Ebay along with the disk shelves and provide a really solid value for the money. I'm wondering how these disk shelves work, though. Questions I have include: -How are they connected? -What is actually inside them? -How loud are they (and could they potentially have fans replaced etc to make them more suitable for home use) -Do they have disk controllers built in that could be flashed into IT mode/ HBA? -Could it potentially be added to my existing server (Freenas on an i5-4440) I know I have skipped some details- I'm just trying to figure out if this is possible, I can provide additional details as needed. Thanks!
  23. It might be a dumb question but I am not sure what is causing the issue so I am going to post all my observations here and hopefully you guys can help me narrow down problem. My laptop's specs: GTX 1050Ti, Intel i5-8300H, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD+1TB SSHD (Asus ROG Strix GL503GE) I used to be able to play Cities: Skylines without any lags and with a decent FPS (around 45-60) but of late, since a few of the most recent Windows 10 updates, my game takes ages to load. Earlier, my saved game used to take a little under 4-5 minutes to load but now it takes substantially longer. Once it took over 13 minutes to load. And even after loading, the game doesn't run smoothly and ever time I pan to a new part of the map, it take a lot of time to render it. During all of this, I noticed that my disk usage light stay on and this happens every time I pan to a new location on the map. After noticing this, I added a mod that shows details while loading assets of the game initially. On my Macbook Pro (2018), about 200 assets get loaded per second while on my Asus, the rate is about 8 assets per second. So, I reinstalled the game on the SSD (it was earlier installed on the SSHD) and it didn't improve the loading times by that much. Now, the asset loading rate was about 15 assets per second. I also noticed that the RAM usage reaches the limit (goes upto nearly 6GB and then drops back down) In order to be sure that it is a disk related issue and not graphics-related issue, I fired up some graphic intensive games and they worked fine. While testing it with GTA V, the game ran just like before, but after a while (an hour or so), the same lag started showing up when I visited densely populated or busy areas of the map. The same spike happened with the disk usage. TL; DR 1. Cities:Skylines lags. Load times are atrocious. Never had this issue earlier, cropped up in the last month or so. 2. Assets load very slow. On SSHD: 8/sec. On SSD: 15/sec 2.1 Assets load at a rate of 200/sec on my Macbook Pro 2.2 Disk usage goes to max 2.3 RAM limit also hits 3. No such problems while playing games like Oxygen Not Included, Mini Metro (duh), 60 Seconds, GTA V 3.1 In GTA V, similar lag appears when at a densely populated area of a map. Disk usage hits max Is it a RAM related issue? If so, I have actually ordered another stick of 8GB RAM and will be installing it soon Is it a disk related issue? If so, why did it crop up all of a sudden? And how do I fix it?
  24. I got 4 drives in my system, 2 ssds one of which being the boot drive and 2 hard drives (and a dvd drive) all connected via sata but when i first installed the drives i didn´t really paid attention to which port which drive is plugged into. I assume that the assigned numbers represent the sata port but does it matter in which port a drive is plugged in aside from the order in which they are listed in the task manager?
  25. its weird it will be running perfect then just start slowing down for a couple minutes and couple back does anyone have anything to fix this? it will help me a lot
