So I'm a huge fan of physical media, I even collect game discs for PC games, not just consoles, however an interesting question came to mind. So the idea behind having a physical disc at least for me is in the case that the online purchasing of the media is to ever go offline, I still have a physical copy I can install from. When installing Jedi Survivor on my Xbox Series X you can see in the attachment below that is claims just under 3GB on the disk were taken and the remainder was being downloaded. I might just be dumb or never paid attention to it until now, but with game sizes getting huge due to graphical increases, are companies no longer storing the entirety of a game on the disc itself? Has the disc become a type of download code? I certainly hope the entirety of the base game is on the disc for the sake of preservation, but it's not looking like it. Plus I don't know of any discs that can store 100s of GB. Took a cruise through Reddit and came across this discussion It would seem to suggest that discs are just download codes effectively and the only real plus side of them is to have that giant cool looking wall of just endless plastic and discs that you can awe at. Personally I'll keep buying physical for the principle and the awe affect, but I'm certainly concerned about the possibilities of personal preservation endeavors due to this idea. Also, I attached a photo of my console set up if you guys are interested. It isn't perfect, but it works pretty well, plus I have a power strip hooking all the consoles up, so I turn the power strip off whenever I'm not playing. I do this for electrical and fire safety reasons as I have a lot of older consoles that I don't trust being hooked up with power without my super vision. IMG_4434.HEIC IMG_4435.HEIC

I am curious about whether surveillance HDDs can serve as a viable option for general PC usage and regular storage needs, due to their affordability compared to regular HDDs. Has anyone had experience using surveillance storage disks as regular storage units? Additionally, can they be utilized effectively for cold storage purposes?

Hi, I am looking at buying some of the older Call of Duty preowned and I'm wondering if I buy any of the older COD games on disc and was wondering if any of you know when/if the games locked onto a account (either steam or the Blizzard launcher).

HI! i got a new pc few daays ago: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with Radeon Vega Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING 16 GB Ram ddr4 two disc: a Lexar SSD (240g) and a 1 tb disc (not ssd) wind10 i't was quarentine time, and oh boy! time to play, the thing is that i got this constant error where the pc stops everything, the mouse keeps moving, but everything else is freezed, if u where writing a whatsapp mensaje it stops and when it unfreezes(it takes 15- to 40 seconds to unfreeze) the mensaje you where writing will apear.... it seems to be happening randomly, either if u are doing a document just browsing on google, or playing.... since rn its quarentine, nobody will come to check, so i decided to look for a fix myself, after some indagation i found that when it happens one of the disc (disc c the one that has windows installed) goes 100% but it isn't writing or reading or writing(if u look in proceces u can't se the 100% only while looking at the graphs) i look for information about the problem on the internet and found diferents solutions: (1) (2) those are the most common solutions i found, i did those and still, it freezes... im just a dude that just wanted to kick some butts in some games... but turned to be an idiot with a computer thats randomly freezes i'm willing to cooperate, if there's more info needed! (also it's my first pc i have, i had a laptop, so this stuff it's new to me)

Here is my specs in case you need that to help me out.. Win10 - I5 4690K - 8GB Ram - ASUS B85M-G - ASUS GTX 970 - 1TB Seagate HDD

I have searched the internet all morning and still can't find a decent answer to my question. My question is "What do I need in order to burn 4K content on a disc, and what do I need to play them." For the burning part I'm looking for advice in what type of Internal Blu-ray Drives support 4K UHD Burning and if any type of Blu-ray Disc supports that resolution writing. For the playing part I'm mainly looking for software what is capable. And if playing back on Linux is preferred rather than Windows as i have heard issues on 4K playback in Windows. I am looking to purchase on Amazon an LG WH16NS40 Blu-ray Burner and some cheap Optical Quantum OQBDR06LT-50 Blu-ray discs for a small filming business as well as personal use since I want to store 4k videos on disc to save memory space on my PC and play it on the PC later on when needed. Any recommendations or advice in 4k burning would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on Linux and one of its pros over Windows is that you can easily create hashes of the contents of files and dvds. My question is, are these hashes 100% accurate and representative of all data on there? Is it possible for malware to be hiding somewhere behind the curtain? On other storage devices malware can still potentially reside inside the firmware if you perform a format. Do discs have something similar to firmware? Meaning that a dvd could still be malicious even if its hash is authentic?

So i want to populate my 5,25 inch bay with a usb hub with no more than 3 usb 3.0 plugs and atleast 1 quick charge usb port (4 in total), but i want to have a slim dvd reader above the 4 usb´s so the usb hub would sort of act like an adapter from regular 5,25 to a slim dvd drive (picture). I cant find any Products that would match my needs so im asking here if someone has a solution for that. Sort of like this but instead of the sd card read it would have that slim disc reader on the picture above, and it could have less usb ports

Hey guys, So I wasn't having too much luck on google and thought I would turn to the forum for some help. I am looking for a slim odd and fan controller that will fit in a regular 5.25 bay. Does such a thing exist? I know slim odd with dual 2.5" hot swap bays are made and so are card readers with slim odd are made. If you can shed any light on my search it would be appreciated. Would they made a slim odd with a 3.5" adapter? Thanks in advance.

Hey, I was downloading something on steam when I found that it was downloading at 70KB/S, so I opened task manager to close whatever was causing it and I found a service called Service host: diagnostic policy service using 100% of my disc or 12mb/s. I restarted and still the same, I have run anti-virus that found nothing and I have gone through most of the diagnostic things in windows with no luck. I then left it in the background for the last few days and still nothing. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I bought a new 1Tb SSD, and it came with an Acronis True Image 2015 key. My HDD stores 700Gb, and is almost full. After trying to copy all my data from my old HDD, the SSD had everything but my OS. I booted off my SSD just after the data copy, I got the windows loading screen, and then my screen simply went black. I left that black screen for over a couple hours, but nothing happened. I've followed several guides, yet none of them solve my problem. I also tried unplugging my HDD, so my computer only recognized my SSD. Once it booted, I get the windows loading screen, and nothing more happens. It has been like this for two hours. Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to ask any questions.

So I like to record my Discord audio that me and my friends talk in. I want to be able to just go back in years or decades to come to remember the awesome times we had playing games together. But I do know that Hard drives degrade overtime when unplugged and would need to restore them every couple of years. I know from what I have read that Normal DVDs and Blueray only last for about 4 years and normal Hard Drives last for around 6 years unplugged. I have backups on a hard drives right now and have another one in the mail for a second backup, but I wanted to know if this M-Disc was a option. The Discs are pretty expensive for about $3 a disc, but they say that it will last a very long time. I dunno, what do you think ,if not, what do you suggest? M-Disc- http://www.mdisc.com/corporate/

I have a desktop that has been working fine for a while. I recently put a 3tb Seagate hdd that was in another computer into it. It was formatted for raid but never actually used for the raid. I had to clean it in cmd, then reformat it. It worked fine and I was able to transfer stuff to it fine. I then flashed a bios on my two 970's to get a silent fan profile, which went fine. But after my bios hangs on the splash screen and no keys or anything effect anything, I can't enter setup or anything. If I unplug the drive, the computer boots fine. And if I plug the drive in when window's is loaded it reads the drive, I am able to transfer to it and everything is fine. Could the drive just be dead or should I attempt to update or reset my bios?

Gday all. I spent some of my day talking to my teacher about free resource % and what is the most you should use at given time of your hardware. 80% constant load on CPU was considered to be the most you should be using (and if its idling this high you might have a slight issue) I argued that you shouldn't have under 15% Drive space left as I have noticed it can make loading from said drive a slow and buggy process, not to mention once under 5% on a drive it has issues reading and wanting to work at all. as for RAM I have found that having ram usage sitting at 85% is normally not too bad, but beyond that there is a bit of a noticeable dip in performance. now we googled about and there was no one really saying much on this topic (because he sorta disagreed with me) I also stated that depending on the architecture of your rig and pick of OS can also affect this out come. having already sluggish hardware would make dips more noticeable, but having some cream of the crop gear would only make it noticeable at extremely high usage. so has anyone else got any thoughts on this topic. I mean I know its not greatly exciting or important topic, but due to a lack of information about this I was hoping we could create a bit of a standard here. like a Red build could also differ from a Blue build and also posting thoughts onto this would also be handy if you have an opinion on this part as well cheers for reading and to those who post anything... that is useful

Hi peeps, I was wondering if someone is able to help me. I'm trying to get my old PS2 Slim back up and running, but I'm having some issues. I am using the 3-point sensor blocking trick, as I am using SwapMagic 3.6 (DVD). This is the current behaviour, also see the video at the bottom: 1. Push power button, turns on 2. Disc spins up, laser moves towards disc motor 2a. Sony Computer Entertainment logo/intro plays, with sound 3. Laser moves towards outer edge of disc 4. Disc keeps spinning at a low rate 4a. Black screen, does not load anymore This happens with all types of DVD/Playstation 2 discs that always used to work (both legal and illegal copies). Things I've tried: - Rearranging the sensor-blocking objects (they appear to be in the correct position, as moving it will stop the disc from spinning which means incorrect placement) - Cleaning laser lens with alcohol - Different disc rotation setting (fast vs. normal) - Different inputs and signal input cable type (RGB/RWY cables with and without adapter to SCART) - Different discs - Diagnostic mode (but that didn't do anything, not in the way it should work that is) - Trying to find similar posts/problems/topics, but none really seemed like that had the same situation It appears the gaphics part works fine, and it looks like it is probably able to read with the laser as well (laser positioning motor also looks to be working fine). I'm not getting the famous "Disc Read Error" line. Last time it properly worked was probably 8 years ago. It has been stored properly in working condition, disconnected from any power and signal cables and fairly free of dust and also has not been moved/bumped into in that time frame. I hope some of you are able to help me, or guide/link me in the right direction. I'm looking forward to playing some (at least for me) nostalgic games. Thank you in advance. Cheers, JB

Hey guys I am upgrading my i7 920 to x5560 becouse I want utilize 3 sticks of 16gb ecc memory I've got some time ago, I was wondering, Is it worth to alocate some of this ram as a ramdisc? I have 1tb HDD and 2x120gb SSD, I am not complaining about speed but I won't utilize all 48gb of this memory anyway, I was thinking about moving my game(s) pubg and cs go maybe, so around 20gb would be needed, I have win 10 pro, I am looking for a software that will allow me to have the ramdisk cached to ssd and restored with every restart, here is the biggest list of programs I found, maybe you have some other program you could reccomend ? https://www.ghacks.net/2017/04/03/the-best-free-ramdisk-programs-for-windows/

hello, I want to install 2x linux mint OS and a separate disk partition on my PC. The second OS is only for redundancy in case something breaks. I already started the 1st installation and chose the erase disk and install new. I later read an article that recommends using the "something else" option. Once installation completes, I want to install the 2nd. Then, create a new partition and link all home, documents, download, etc folders to that partition. Can I still do that with gparted or do I really need to use the "something else" option? Also I am going to make a couple of costumizations that I need to do on both OS. Is there a way to configure both at the same time? And how much disk space should I provide for the OS? thank you, Pumbaa
