I'm stuck abroad for some time but I still have to work. Work is office based so in theory just remoting in should be enough. I'd want to use my S23+ with its Dex feature. In theory plug into a monitor, have a wireless mouse and keyboard, connect through a remote desktop app and good to go. Is this true? Can Samsung Dex do that? And if so, do any remote desktop apps that have a Dex compatible web app work or is there more to it? I really don't want to spend money and buy a spare laptop I'll use for a few weeks purely for remote sessions that will then become ewaste.

Hi, I've been having some trouble connecting my tablet to my monitor with a usb c to displayport cable. When connecting with a usb c to hdmi adapter and a hdmi cable, it works fine, but only at 1440p, due to the adapter I have not being high enough bandwidth. The monitor is 4k, and I'd like to use it at that resolution. I've tested the cable (AmazonBasics type c to displayport) with my laptop and it works fine, furthermore, my phone (Samsung galaxy xcover 6 pro) is able to use the cable and output to the display in dex mode. However, connecting the cable to the tablet results in a 'display connected' popup but no signal on the monitor. I've genuinely got noidea what's causing this, as every component seems to work separately, but not together. Any help would be appreciated, thanks Edit: Even if dex won't support 4k, I'd still prefer to use the displayport cable for this monitor as it stays on my desk while the hdmi adapter gets carried around with me in my bag for using while out at uni libraries.

I migrate from long time chrome fanboy to firefox for all my device about 8 month ago, all its been great, all the sync features etc is working, just like chrome. Now the only problem is firefox mobile running on android tablet like Galaxy Tab S series and some android phone that have Desktop mode via HDMI dock, running firefox mobile UI on bigger (and higher DPI display) is kinda sucks, I know its too much to ask, but probably there's way to add features? I know chrome and some other browser have this feature in mobile, but not in firefox. This thread is made on FIrefox Android on Samsung Galaxy S8+ in dex mode

I can connect my S20 with my monitor (HP Pavillion 32QHD) via a USB-C Cable (10 Gbit/s) and DEX instantly works. The resolution is set to 1080p even though my monitor is 1440p and my phone shows a 1440p option, which I`m not able to choose (btw, my monitor supports DP 1.2 via USB-C), so the monitor, the cable and my phone should support everything that`s needed for 1440p. Is that a restriction from Samsung to use their proprietary HDMI adapter or is there some software solution/setting I first need to activate? Hope someone can help me.

Hi, I've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 that I can connect to my TV via a DEX supported adaptor. I can get sound to work in HDMI mode (when you connect to the adaptor), but when I launch DEX I can only get audio to output from the tablet. Changing the output to the 'Display Device' can be selected but no sound is produced. When I looked at the built in DEX guide it says to change the sound output I need SmartThings installed. Well I've got SmartThings installed, but I still can't get sound and there is no further instructions provided as to why I even need SmartThings. So infuriating! Can anyone help?? Thanks.

DONT REPLY WITH PICS PLS Hey LTT peeps, Just received a notification from FedEx that my S8+ has shipped. Dope. Checking order status... 1 S8+ in midnight black. Dope. Wait. ...1 S8+ in midnight black +35? oh gawd, oh no. Nononono! 0_0 So... I only ordered 7 For my team. Did Verizon really make a $24,000 Order mistake? I wonder why these haven't changed their order status... (I'm sure not everyone will believe me, so im going to find a way to take a screen shot of all these with my #s blocked out.) Moving on, what do y'all think about Dex and its use with AWS? Amazon Workstations, other than being ridiculously expensive, has worked wonders in my experience. Being able to use your phone for access to a virtual machine with a keyboard and mouse is a very cool prospect... Until you see that the ethernet port on the dock is only 100Mb. Why not gigabit???

At the Samsung unpacked event for the galaxy note 10 and note 10+, Samsung announced a collaboration with Microsoft which allows Galaxy note 10 users to connect their phones to a windows PC and open Sasmung Dex on the laptop in a window just like any other app. I was wondering if anyone know when and if this feature will be available for older models (my current phone is an s9+). I would really like to use this feature to easily transfer files between my laptop and phone.

You guys have any thoughts on linux on dex? Is it a perfect copy of ubuntu, or do we lose a lot compared to the real thing?
-
So you know how Samsung has the Dex which connects to a display to give your phone a pc-like experience. Well I was thinking since no Samsung phone has anything above 60hz, what would happen if I connected my phone to a 144hz display? Specifically what would the refresh rate on the monitor be?

Hi there, Im Ryan and want to have a Large Touch Screen Dash in my car. Samsung has such a device but I am looking to do it for a little cheaper. Hoping you do a Show on this, love your videos. I want to mount a Touch Screen on my Dashboard in my car. Like a Tesla a large screen on Dash. Something like a 20" Touch Screen. Samsung Has the Samsung Dex which does this, but I simply cant afford a new s10 and a dex screen. I want to use my Android phone as the brains / and have access to all the Car Apps in the Play Store. The Car Large Touch Screen to be the one that controls the phone / including the double tap. I know you can HDMI, but that wont allow touching the screen while driving. I have a Motorola e5 supra as a extra phone because the screen is cracked - So is there a way I can connect a external touch screen / That controls the phone. Love your shows on youtube, The odd ball things you tackle makes me have hope! And I hope you do a Video on this one! Explore Tech! Thanks, Ryan Romero Sr -ryanromerosr@outlook.com Samsung's device I want to emulate. https://www.samsung.com/us/business/solutions/samsung-dex/ If this is the Wrong Place to post this, I apologize. Its a odd sorta question and there wasn't one I thought would fit the question. Thanks again.

How to use laptop(Dell i5 windows) as a Samsung dex on note 9?
-
I think visiting the topic of Samsung Dex on Linus Tech Tips would make a great video and answer a bunch of questions whos answers are not easily found out there on the web. You may have noticed me in the other Samsung Dex related posts. This is because I have spend the entire weekend with a Note 9, a type C hub, official Samsung Dex, and a large variety of peripherals. We also acquired a Shadow PC account to do some of this testing. We have spent a lot of time researching and testing this feature out and the main goal is to establish a place where all the questions about this setup can be answered. If you have any questions that arent covered in this, please feel free to ask. From our research we have found the Note 9 to be the only one that will launch Dex without the official Samsung dock. However, through testing we have found using a third party type c hubs provide a buggy experience. After a couple of times of use, it quit responding to the hub entirely. Maybe its just the particular one we got off of Amazon, so its not conclusive to say this behavior will be exhibited on all type C hubs. We will continue to do further testing with my boyfriends note 9 and dex station and update this thread for anyone interested. A list of questions to tackle in the video would be: 1. What makes a third party device compatible? 2. What peripherals are supported? (We havent found a device yet that doesnt work) 3. What are apps that don't cooperate with Dex? 4. Are Bluetooth, WiFi, and mobile data accessible while docked? (Yes they are) 5. Can this configuration be used to run the Shadow Streaming service Linus made a video on? 6. How well does the interface handle receiving a call and text while docked? 7. What are the shortcomings of this configuration in comparison to a Windows laptop? (My boyfriend uses this as his work computer - Its working fairly well for him. With his bluetooth headset on, he can answer calls, texts, and do work all on one screen without having to shift his focus between phone and computer screen.) 8. How does the Dex and Note 9 handle outputting to 4k? On the topic of Shadow streaming: At first we had an issue with Shadow only launching in its native sized window for the phone. After going into developer options and enabling force apps to full screen, we got it working. Now that we had our shadow pc in full screen, it was time to test. We played CS:GO and City Skylines for a little bit just to get a feel (our game library is little lol). There are some small kinks to work out when using this setup. One of the big things we found was the mouse scroll wheel was not acting right until we tweaked the settings in the shadow menu. An Ethernet connection is definitely recommended. We tried it on WiFi and mobile data as well and they do not provide a smooth enough experience to justify the setup. With Ethernet and the scroll wheel fixed, we continued on. The lag in CS:GO was hardly noticeable and it was more than playable. I know this might be suitable as a separate topic but I think its a nice tie in. Thanks everyone for reading, Blue_Slushie

Hey LTT! Firstly, I’ve been a lurker since way back at the start of the NCIX days and love the amazing deaf friendly content! Secondly, I think I have unique video that has yet to be done. I would love a video that provides a comparison between the Samsung DEX and a similarly speced laptop and a chromebook. This would show if the Samsung DEX is a decent feature or a marketing gimmick. I’m sure I’m not the only one, but if the DEX has the potential to replace an average laptop or chromebook with minimal sacrifice then it would really help with the price tag. I would hope that it would fit in between a decently speced chromebook and a $500 laptop thus allowing users to browse with minimal tab management and run more applications. I can see testing these devices in two ways. In a previous video Linus explained how much RAM you need in 2018 by opening tons of google chrome tabs until the program crashed. This would show wether the RAM in a Samsung DEX or Chromebook performs within standard deviations of the control laptop. Another test would be geekbench 4 to test the cpu on each device. A final test would be to run a cross platform game (fortnight maybe?) to test the general use of each device under load. One reason I think this has not been done yet is because of the difference in prices. A flagship Samsung phone is $800+ while a high end Chromebook can be obtained for $350 and a comperable laptop can be obtained for less than the cost of the phone. However, not everyone has the money to throw out for all of their gadget needs and I think seeing some real data sets on the Samsung DEX would make us more informed consumers. Thanks for your time! Mavericks

So I have to ask, is getting a Dex Pad worth it? I know that the Samsung 8 series had the DeX station and now Samsung 9 series now has the DeX Pad, is this something seriously worth considering? My biggest thought on this is these phones already so expensive as it is, and comparable pricing to a light laptop or even more expensive than most netbooks, is there a reason not to get it? I mean hell if Samsung copied Razor's Project Linda I feel like the next series of Samsung phones could go the way of, here's your phone, here's a netbook dock for more portable productivity space, heres a desktop dock, you're phone is now a semi-practical all in one. I would not be excited about using android for productivity, but if they gave it a more robust back end, and had more software support (maybe throw in something like a windows emulator?) I feel like this is the direction they're pushing for. [ I did buy the S9+ 256gb and got free 256gb MicroSD so space won't be an issue for a long while. I needed a replacement for my S6 due to short battery life ]

So I've been playing CS:GO without a mouse pad for sometime and I decided that after work to day I'm going to get a partner in crime for my Corsair M95 and I've narrowed it down to the SteelSeries Dex or the QcK (Not +) (The + is not in the store). I'm good with using the extra money for the Dex after reading that it is an improved version of the QcK series but only available in one size but for some reason I want to know if any of you guy or girls have the Dex or have upgraded to the Dex from the QcK and if you think the bit more money if worth it.
