Hey should I just gamble and just buy a replacement CPU already? Around November 2023 i updated my windows 11 gaming computer to the latest windows feature update (and updated some drivers) and when it restarted it blue screened and has been ill ever since. Every time i turn on the computer (and enter any OS) it will completely freeze up within 1-3 minutes. It just freezes what's on screen, the caps-lock button does nothing, and it refuses to do anything until forced off. It crashes in windows 11 pro, when installing windows on a fresh ssd (with no other drives connected), when initialising WindowsToGo (thanks to Rufus), and in ubuntu installer. What baffles me is that it doesn't crash in windows safe mode. If it's my CPU that's faulty does it behave so differently in safe mode as to not be symptomatic there? It does not blue screen, and no logs are created from the crash as far as i can tell. I can open windows reliability monitor in recovery mode and no logs are present for the time stamp the computer froze up at. The 2 pieces of hardware that i haven't been able to test are the PSU and CPU. Does my problem sound like either of them are to blame? I have attempted: MB Replacing with different model of MB (MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI) - now returned Updating BIOS to the latest one Resetting BIOS to default values Various BIOS changes (like undoing the RAM XMP profile) Storage Different M.2 drive M.2 in USB enclose Various USB drives (with various different Windows and Ubuntu installers of various vintages) Putting the various storage devices in different slots Ran SSD tester from BIOS without any errors found RAM Using each stick individually by themself Each stick in different slots in 2 separate MBs They passed the windows RAM tester They passed several hours of MemTest86 without any errors Windows Not connecting Razer devices (Huntsmen and basilisk) Removing most recent drivers GPU Problem does not change with the GPU installed or not The computer was constructed from new parts during February 2023. PC Specs: Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5 GHz (has onboard graphics) MSI PRO Z790-A WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL40 Memory (the versions that plays nice with intel XMP) Crucial P5 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (Main boot drive) Sabrent Rocket 512 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (Secondary drive to help debug) Corsair RM750x (2021) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case MSI 3060TI 3X 8G OC LHR A bunch of Noctua fans Additional information: Sometimes when getting into recovery options it kinda crashes and pressing any valid button just refreshes screen with bad screen tearing I have dismantled and reassembled everything on 4 separate occasions, there are no loose cables and the cpu does not have any pins to inspect I've also tried disabling network adapters from the BIOS amongst other BIOS changes The BIOS environment is stable I spoke to a computer technician at a shop and he was baffled by the problem i had, he recommended trying another compatible CPU (intel 12/13/14) and posting for help on this forum Have tried booting with only display connected Not possible: It does not appear to be possible to reset windows from recovery Or repair windows from recovery Or roll back windows updates Not tried: Replacing current 13600K CPU Replacing the power supply Throwing computer out of window Does anyone have any idea what my problem is? I just want my computer fixed so i can continue playing BG3 with my friend. Do i just buy a new CPU and test that, and return it if it doesn’t fix my problem. I’m fed up of the number of hours I’ve spent trying to fix it without results. Thanks in advanced for your help Cheers.

I built this computer last December and it has been running fine since then. Last week I went to use it and there was no display output to my screen, restarting it didn't fix the issue, and I noticed the LED debug display on the motherboard was not lighting up (On boot it normally lights up with different codes). All the fans in the case spin like normal, the 1070 lights up and fans spin on that as well. The power led on the front of the case lights up, as well as the Ethernet led lights on the motherboard. I have tried different memory combos, and nothing seems to work. The monitor is working fine with my laptop so its not that. I called EVGA support at first thinking it was a graphics card problem, and they told me it was most likely an issue with the motherboard. I made a ticket with Asrock and ended up RMAing it and sending the board back to them. I just got the replacement board today and its still the same issue and I am not sure what to do next. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Specs CPU: Intel i7-6800k Motherboard: Asrock x99 Taichi Graphics: EVGA gtx 1070 sc Memory: 4x 16gb hyperx Main Drive: Samsung 500gb 750 evo ssd PSU: EVGA 750p2

Taking the liquid cooling options to the next level? A Facebook video shown below has been going around where he replaces the usual water cooling liquid solution with Coca Cola. Makes sense since Coca Cola is corrosive proof. I don't know. What do you guys think?

I'm moving to another country for 2 years and want to bring my PC with me. shipping it via UPS will cost me buying a new one. that's why I want to bring it. switching it to a microITX build so I could carry it far better.

Hey so i bought the Sennheiser PXC 550 and i can connect it to my phone, no probs. For my lap top i needed the Sennheiser HeadSetup Pro Software works like a charm, no probs. But for Gods sake i cant conect it to my Custum Desktop PC. I Have bought a Dongle just to be sure (TP-Link UB400 Interface Card/ Adapter Bluetooth) and pluged it in, my PC was able to find it but there was a driver error, i surefed a bit and found out that i have to uninstal it and download the original Drivers (CSR Harmony wireless software stack). Done that, problem solved, my PC recognizes it. But my headphones wont find it, just like my phone wont, so im at a point that i know that i know that its probably something in the PC's settings. Because i know that my PC has bluetooth even with out a dongle, but i was just desperate and wanted at least give it a try. Can you guys please help me witht his. I would really appreciate it In the device magager (sry for the german) you can see that it is there with no issues after the driver update. EDIT: I even tryed with my JBL Speakers and it wont work. My PC wont recognize it.

i’ve recently built a new pc with some recycled parts, i’m going to switch out my graphics card with a new one (pc works fine right now) and i’m wondering how a fire may start and how to prevent it, just don’t want my money to be wasted. I’m also currently in a different country, i purchased the graphics card here because of the price difference and i want to bring it back to canada, would i have any problems in customs or getting it on the plane? Thanks in advance.

bios Lenovo Y900 Dekstop Kaby Lake Upgrade
JoaKimzen posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello I'm posting this here, because I couldn't log in to the Lenovo forums. I have a Lenovo Y900 Desktop computer (Specs: GTX 1070, i5 6600K @4.2 GHz, 2TB HDD, 128gb M.2 SSD, 16GB DDR4 RAM) and I want to upgrade my CPU to an i7 7700 Kaby lake. Has Lenovo released the BIOS update that makes this possible? How do I update my BIOS to make my motherboard compatible with Kaby Lake CPUs? The Kaby Lake CPUs are backwards compatible with Z170 mobos, but I gotta update the BIOS first, and I couldn't find any information about this update on Lenovo's website. I have already updated my BIOS once, about 4-5 months ago, but when I check the BIOS date in the msinfo32 thing It says: BIOS-version/-date: LENOVO O1ZKT39A 06.07.2016. I don't know if I have the correct update. -
Hi, I've just got into streaming around the home with plex and moonlight app. But I've been thinking about streaming away from home at hospital appointments but I just want to make sure my computer/server is secure when using public wifi services. Any suggestions on virtual private networks/vpn for running these streaming app services would be great. Cheers.

So I have a Gateway DX4200-09 desktop pc and I use it to play games and do random stuff. But its sooo SLOW I can't play a single GAME without lag its impossible, plus it's laggy on windows explorer too! i tried everything from deleting stuff to shutting off all programs in the backround even Windows! it helped somebit but not really, I played stuff from counter strike to Minecraft and get around to 4 to 14fps on lowest settings possible. and bigger games not even a chance. My mac laptop did better but it's broke now. so here's specs: cpu: amd phenom x4 9100e ram: 4gb DDR2 800mhz graphics card: ati radeon hd 3200 Running: windows vista hard drive: 640gb btw I only have 5gb left on hard drive but I can make room. Is it a problem I can fix,is it too old, is it because my storage is full or is it just horrible and get a new pc or its just too dusty. Any fix to this?

PSA: TL:DR IN COMMENTS I think there is a huge bunch of misunderstanding about phonebloks and project ara which i will help to clear up. (copied from my comment post on another forum topic. not entirely doubling up, but i want to get this message more widely viewed.) Phonebloks was an idea by one guy, which Google saw the success of and announced Project Ara, which had been in the works for the past half year. Therefore project ara is real and phonebloks is not. They use the same idea though - modular components on a solid chassis. Given that you're IN this forum, please don't play the card that 'they'll make you pay an extra $50 for every module'. That is the entire point of the custom desktop PC. If you want basic you get basic and don't ask questions. If you want advanced and powerful it may not be worth your money but you spend it anyway, don't you? The desktop PC keeps down the monopolization by making it an open market with just some self-established guidelines and standards for components (I/O shield, PCI express, etc). Now what happens when you make a phone (or a tablet or a watch) with those same principle? Why would anyone on a forum that praises the custom desktop PC get upset with that! A device that is merely open standards for a market to be established to make and sell things under their own market devices. They can be as competitive or non-competitive as they want but at the end of the day it is the consumers' choice how much they want to spend, and on what features they deem valuable. Again, lets compare to the desktop PC: why do you have it rather than a complete system from a nearby tech store or (heaven forbid) a mac?? a ) you like to put it together and enjoy tinkering with it b ) you like the personalisation that you can achieve with it over complete systems from other places. c ) you're fed up with the lack of performance in commercial computers and would rather spend inproportionally more money to receive that performance. d ) you have the money to buy a commercial pc (barely) but would rather you choose the components you need based on your workload (no GPU but an SSD boot drive. No optical drive but a better cpu. etc) e ) you like to save the money/resources in upgrading outmoded parts than turfing the whole computer, saving a production cycle and saving you the consumer a lot of money (especially if they re-sell the parts) while maintaining tech relevancy. Now please tell me which one of those does not directly apply to modular consumer electronics. A modular watch or phone's base model is cheap, but you can make it as powerful as you want. $100 for a basic smartwatch is great deal for most people. If you want a beefed up one buy the extra parts and pay $500. Still cheaper than many on the market (COUGH apple). but then you end up with a smarphone-powerful smartwatch which someone would have if they didn't have a smartphone. In project ara's case. the stock model will be $50. don't think of that as a phone for the plebs. Remove all the stock bloks and build a $900 phone like you would buy an HTC or iphone. Then in the next gen you only spend another $300 on new processor or when you had broken it, $50 for a new screen. Again, look at the comparison to the desktop PC market and ask yourself why you would have anything against it! To the topic of 'why don't they make a modular tablet': short answer: they will. long answer: it doesn't matter. the project ara modules will be intercompatible with each other across any activity, so so long as you have a chassis that can hold them they'll work. A modular tablet is just a larger chassis to put blocks into. Google stated that they want to establish the phone first, starting with a medium phone, then releasing a phablet chassis and mini ipod-nano-6th-gen sized phone chassis, THEN releasing a tablet and who knows an SLR chassis. A drone chassis. a fridge chassis. Something with the same standards that the same block can plug into and work together. So you will have a phone chassis and a tablet chassis and a fridge with a compatible chassis. You keep batteries in each and you take out the storage from one to the other perhaps. or the camera onto the device you want to take the nice pictures with that day. or if you're frugal the nice processor block you swap between devices to save on doubling up buying the stuff. When in the fridge perhaps the storage block gets metadata from the frisge, which when plugged back into the phone alerts health apps and so on. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter whether its a phone or a tablet or a fridge. Physically the difference is screen size but therefore chassis size. All it takes is Google to see Ara's success and release ONE product to support it and WHAM - done. I hope this clears up a bunch of misunderstand that a lot of people (including and especially linus) seem to have.

Just a quick question, I'm going to move some files from my laptop and over to my desktop pc. Do you guys recommend some ways to transfer the files? Im thinking of using a internet cable if that's possible? The size of the files are around 250-500gb and it will take a while to use a 2gb usb memory stick.. My laptop have HDMI, Internet port and 4 USB 2.0, I can might use the wireless internet to send the files, but I dont know how I'm going to do it.. If any of you know about a guide, or can tell me a way to transfer the files quickly, that had been much appreciated!
