I love collecting console games, retro, modern, etc. However I have a few concerns and am curious about possible improvements to the set up. You can see the wires, they're decently organized, but not fantastically plus the sheer quantity of them makes it hard to manage. Any ideas on how I can better manage/hide these cables, even if I should make a change in the shelf/stand I have a lot of retro consoles and a major concern of mine is that these electrical components are very old and because of that I don't trust them to be hooked up to power without my supervision. Currently I use a very large power strip which has a switch that I turn off whenever I'm not home and using a console in the set up. Is there a better way to go about this? Is there a better way to store the controllers, especially the wired ones? I worry that the wires are degrading as I wrap them around themselves and have noticed that they start to twist and take that shape permanently. I like things to appear fairly neat and be easy to get in and out. Any ideas? My original Xbox and Xbox One S need new feet however I haven't been able to really find any, someone know where I can find some? Is there anyway to protect my purchase in the case of a fire? Perhaps I could convert the physical library to digital in some cases and continue to use the discs for as long as they're available? I'm also looking for possible improvements to my desk set up and am curious if any of you guys have any ideas. I don't want to purchase a new desk as this one was quite expensive, but it has some size constraints and I was considering a few possibilities. A second Apple Studio Display. I always had duel monitors when I was a PC person, I've since switched to Apple Silicon for the time being. I love my Apple Studio Display, but I'm considering purchasing another identical model. The one concern is crowding my desk. I'd like to maintain what I call a messy minimalistic approach, there is also the concern of making my one wire set up a two wire set up for hooking up one of my Macs and reducing easy access to them. I'd like the server to be more hidden, but it runs Linux Mint so not everything is accessible in the terminal. I do tend to do most things via the terminal allowing SSH to be a great solution for most of the time. Is there perhaps some remote monitoring applications (free of charge preferably and not requiring an online account) that I could employ to maintain desktop access when required without needing an additional legacy monitor? I use the server to host my Valheim and Minecraft server. Should I adjust the storage of the lots of retro computers and parts I have? I use these for repairing/maintaining retro machines and am working on making some videos in regards to the equipment I have. I'm really hoping to minimize the cluttered look. Notes about the photos: I keep my RGB strip, Time Machine m.2 and usb dongle on the back of my Apple Studio Display, I've also recently added a USB SuperDrive (don't worry I didn't buy it new as that would be a total rip off). I have two Macs in vertical stands, one is my main machine an M1 Pro 14" and the other is an old Intel Mac from 2019 that I use only for Windows and playing some games that are only available on Windows. I use the shelving and platform to my right when facing my monitor to repair machines and stop tools and some software. The beige shelf stores more hardware and to the left of me in the photo is another hardware shelf. The legacy monitor is for my server and I'd love to retire and discontinue daily use, keeping it around only as a spare. Looking forward to your guy's recommendations.

Budget (including currency): 1200€ (Euro) Country: Portugal Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming mostly, like Warzone 2.0 and GTA V Other details: I own already a monitor from AOC 165Hz and good mouse and keyboard, also I own several SSDs like M.2 Gen3 Resolution: 1080p / 165Hz monitor with HDR Stock in my country is very limited, like, PCDiga.pt or Globaldata.pt are the most trusted stores. I tried a build based on stock Case - ATX Kolink Observatory Lite Mesh RGB with adicional top fan Aerocool Mirage 12 ARGB 120mm PSU - Modular Seasonic Focus GX-550W 80+ Gold CPU - Intel Core I5-13400F 10-Core (2.5GHz-4.6GHz) 20MB Skt1700 Motherboard - Gigabyte B760M Gaming X DDR4 RAM - G.Skill Kit 32GB (4 x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz Ripjaws V Black CL18 GPU - Sapphire Radeon RX 6750 XT Pulse OC 12GB What do u think? I own a legion 5 with a RTX 2060 so it struggles at 60 Frames. I have it connected to my monitor. Also I own a PS5 so I do play with my GF so the PC would be to play with here and I love to see her to play at high frames with quality. I´m not now as educated in hardware as I was 6 years ago. Medicine is this, takes away most of my time. COVID didn´t help at all too. Anyways, I wanna avoid bottleneck and also random problems. U can check both stores that I mention but its in my language. Sorry for my English Wish u all the best Regards

Before you leave, hear me out! What if you could have the convenience of a wall mounted desk along with the functionality of a sit stand! My aim is to make that happen! I am moving into a new house around august 15th, and want to create 2 identical and mirrored desks in the corner of the Office room my girlfriend and I will be sharing. After many googles, this does not seem like something anyone has really gotten right. There's this guy who really over builds his, and many other small desk wall mount designs. My goal is to use thrown away pallet wood as the base of the desk (REUSE!) which will make the desk much lighter, while still remaining strong; and to make it move quietly and smoothly along the wall. 10'5" x 11' is the approximate room size (Haven't been able to get an exact measurement). I want the desks each to be 6 feet wide, and meet in the corner of the room, splitting along the corner line towards the center of the room. At first, I was thinking about some kind of track system, but I am having a hard time getting down the specifics. This is early stages, so I am all ears to ideas of how I can make this happen. Make sure to follow the thread as I will update it periodically assuming it catches on.

LAGKAPTEN v LINNMON? - What's the difference? I'm looking at buying a new desk as my current one is way too chonky and I know that the Linnmon is widely used, so I headed to the glorious site that is Ikea and found that it was out of stock everywhere but Belfast. I do not live in Belfast. However they have introduced the Lagkapten which as far as i'm aware is exactly the same but in stock and slightly cheaper, even at the 200cm long version- which I want to go for. I just wanted to know if anyone can tell me if there is a difference I should know about. E.g. a lot less sturdy (I will probably use 2 table legs on each end and one in the middle back)

I want to get an L-shaped gaming desk but the ones I see aren't what I'm looking for. I want to get a gaming desk that on the sides goes down all the way or almost all the way to the floor, but all the ones I see have nothing on the sides. I'm only going to have one side against a wall and when someone goes into my room I don't want my full computer to be in view. If anyone knows of any or knows how to search for one I would appreciate it!

I have a Corsair Obsidian 1000D which I want to put on my desk, alongside a 49" Odyssey Neo G9 Gaming DQHD Quantum Mini-LED Monitor and gaming equipment. I need a desk who can handle the size and the weight of this. Do you guys have any qualitative options/recommendations? I don't have a real budget. I am building this insane gamingbuild, so I am willing to pay for a nice desk Easy cablemanagement is a plus!

Hi all, new here. So I'm looking to reclaim some space in our kids bedroom as the desk they currently have takes up so much that no-one can get past when another is using it. The desk dimensions are: 110cm W 96cm H 65cm D When someone is using the computer or console, the effective depth becomes 104cm and this eats into the narrow entrance into their bedroom. Rearranging the room is a no-go, everything else fits only where it can fit so has anyone successfully removed the desk from the equation? I'm thinking of mounting the monitor to the wall (easy), then mount a folding shelf underneath for the keyboard and mouse (easy-ish), a couple of foldaway chairs that hook onto the wall under the shelf when not in use (easy), and then have the PC on the floor. Ideally I would want to mount that too but it's my old gaming rig and weighs a ton. I suppose I could look into turning it into a micro pc but for now, it would just live in the corner of the room in its huge case. Are there any flaws with my plan? Any shelves you recommend? All comments will be appreciated.

From kids room to office game room! Started with an idea and some wood. First time to hang tile. learned that having a tile saw is a must have. Granite guys made did a great job installing the tops. If your in the Houston area give Majestic Stone Texas a Call! Started putting the first coats of primer and paint on the bottom shelves. Still need to finish the ends where the tile meets the end and touch-up the walls.. Used Bondo brand wood filler for the most part but tried a water based filler on the end of the desk (below), not a fan, took way longer to dry.

Hey, everyone! I am trying to find a desk to buy for my room. I will be using the desk for gaming purposes. I want a white desk that is around 60" - 72". I would also like to have above 30" of depth. I have seen the linnamon (might be misspelled) desk from Ikea but people say it bends in the middle when there is too much weight applied. Maybe say what desk you have and why you like it? I do not need a motorized desk (unless it is relatively cheap), it usually just adds onto the price. Please help me find a good desk and thank you.

Hi all, Hoping somebody can assist here. Long story short I have the Ikea Linnmon desk currently, but despite having a cable cage under the desk, its's still messy due to the limited options. What I'm looking for is ideas from others who want/have cleaner desk setups, as well as opinions for the following: Desks with back boards to hide the cables Desks with popup sections for the odd ad-hoc power socket access and USB charging, but that cannot be seen unless in use Thoughts?

I currently have the IKEA Linnmon 59" desk, and for its price.. its alright. Im just mainly scared that since I have dual monitors, and my PC sits on the desk, it will eventually start to bow or even break. I am aware that IKEA Kitchen Countertops are a thing, but im just not looking to spend $200. I am in love with that wood finish, classic and clean design with no showing stability pieces of wood. Is there any suggestions? Mainly looking for the Wood Finish and about 70". Thanks!

I am looking for a computer desk right now. I have been using a Card table, yes I said a card table, and it's no longer meeting my needs anymore since I have 3 monitors, some A/V components professional audio monitors and a few hard drives and I have a mic arm mounted to this card table as well. (That was interesting to get working) The width of my current desk is about 46 inches, depth is about 19 inches and height is about 24 and a half. Most desk as I understand are about 30 inches in height, although I'd like to get a form of an up desk so I can stand up once in a while, but my issue comes with the width and depth, I have a very small home office space and need to fit something in this room that can work well. I roughly measure I can fit a 5-foot width desk and possibly a 30-inch depth, however, 30 inches is pushing it. I was wondering if anyone knew of a desk that would work for me, and is affordable that I could get at Amazon or OfficeDepot.

Hi folks. I'm looking to buy a U shaped computer desk but don't want to go all out on a Forma-space custom job if I don't have too. Looking for reputable brands, durable. ESD safe if possible, want to stay away from the el cheapo Formica. have been looking on Amazon, Newegg, Overstock Wayfair etc and just not seeing anything that fits the bill.

Hi, so a while back I remember stumbling across a certain custom desk supplier (I think I may have found it through LTT) which made really awesome custom desks. The starting prices of the desks I was looking at was around ~$1000 AU and at the time I remember thinking they were to expensive but I would return when I had some cash to spare. However, I can't for the life of me find the website again. Pretty much all the desks came with cool LED lighting, support for up to 6 monitors (depending on the model, but a big selling point for me) and a generally modular design which could include, multiple spaces for custom PCs, consoles and any other tech you might want to put in there, along with useful features such as native water cooling and cable management infrastructure built into the desk. These are just a few of the many features available in their line up of desks, but hopefully this will help you guys find the website/supplier I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

Hello there! As my desk is rather small 120x60 (Metric system FTW) especially now when I'll have 2 monitors and I dont really have the space.. Cant be bigger than 165x70 after that it starts to block shit of in my room. I was looking at the Ikea Malm (Notice that I'm Swedish) the hard thing here is amazon and other things are rather restricted here like it costs a fortune for shipping and import and all that stuff but just say a desk and I'll see if I find it in my countries webshops and so on (could send me a pic of it?) Oh yeah height doesnt matter but it gotta support a monitor mount which clamps togheter between the desks tabletop and black colour is preferd but I think white also works. Thanks in advance!

So I currently have a big desk; the kind with built-in filling cabinets and shelves along the sides and a false back, etc. (which also makes it a pain to put a new computer in). In about a month, I'm hoping to get a Corsair Vengeance C70 case, and four additional fans to put in it. My question is, since those types of cabinets don't really let the hot air dissipate, should I turn all the fans around in the case so it takes air in from the back and flows out the front? Would the front of the case even really allow good enough airflow for that?

I'm looking to buy a cheap, usable desk in the near future. I've seen people use folding tables before and so far that's my plan. But I don't know if there are any safety risks behind using a folding table. Ergonomics and cable management don't bother me. I've sat at a folding table before and it was the most comfortable sitting experience of my life. Does anybody here use a folding table for their desk? Have you ever encountered static build-up? Is is sturdy enough? Is there anything you recommend as far as cheap desks go that AREN'T used? This is my first post here. Thanks in advance!

desks Brainstorming - Custom built desks? Anyone interested?
JamesGow posted a topic in Cases and Mods
Hi, My name is Jamie and I'm here looking to do a little market research. At present I'm mostly just brainstorming so I'll keep this short. I work professionally as a cabinet maker based in the UK; I make quality fitted and freestanding furniture. This includes fully fitted bespoke furniture through houses including wardrobes, kitches bla bla etc. You get the picture... I can basically make anything in wood (but not limited to) to the best standards and have access to a fully fitted workhop with professional tooling and machinery. I consider myelf "tech savvy" and before furniture making I used to - to put it bluntly - play a lot of games and mess around with computers a lot which has led me to this idea. Anyway, I can make custom desks/workstations just like any other piece of furniture and out of any materials - hardwood, glass, metals & acrylics. Should I go ahead and give it a shot? How much would you be prepared to pay for the desk of your dreams? What features would you like? What would it look like? Do you know of any other people/companies that make this sort of furniture? In addition, it would be interesting to see some designs that are already out there and what ideas any of you have. Limitations that I would have at this time, if I were to persue this venture is that I'd only be able to deliver to UK mainland and personally assemble a piece of furniture so substantial (sorry, I don't make IKEA flatpacks). Just a thought. I thought this would be a good place to ask. -
Hello Everyone, I want some ideas for buying a new computer desk that is both affordable and nice looking. Also, I want to be able to fit my computer case underneath it. My computer case is the Fractal Design Define R4. Thanks LinusTechTips Community!!!

I always see builds on the internet with a triple monitor set up and a good desk to hold it all ( I have a triple monitor set up too ) but yeah I could do with some help! Thanks guys.

Came across computers in built into desks a while ago, inspired to build my own one in future (especially after seeing what I think is a pretty awesome, clean cut desk build below) , what do others think Awesome, Not awesome, In the middle? If anyone can find stand out advantages/ disadvantage please mention them (apart from the potential costliness ) Note image below is from http://tweakers.net/gallery/45974/fotoalbum/?MapID=16028, Build by Peter Brands
