Hi, I want to enable the memory integrity feature of Windows Defender. For that, you need compatible drivers. I only have one which is preventing me from turning the feature on - ssudcdf.sys: It's from 2014, so already not great. My biggest issue: I don't know what that driver is for. After a bit of googling, I found out that it's some form of mobile phone driver. I had installed the Samsung phone driver because I own a Galaxy S10 - but I deinstalled that one, so it can't be the issue. Also, I can't find any device in the Device Manager which uses that driver. My S10 apparently uses a generic Microsoft driver. My best guess is that it's from when I was flashing /e/ OS on my Galaxy S7 - because somewhere it also said that this driver is a "SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface Driver". In that case, I definitely don't need it anymore. So my conclusion is that I don't need this driver. But I couldn't find out how to remove it safely without it appearing in the Device Manager. Does someone know how I would go about doing that? Thanks!

Hi, I have encountered a curious thing regarding downloading some files, i.e. on one PC torrent client downloads were flagged as potentially unwanted or malicious (I don’t remember exactly) while on another the warning was not displayed. Both ran on 20H2 and Edge, but it was a 2-3 week time span so some update might have changed. Is it some kind of heuristics? Those were secure sites but as I do not use software like that in general I’m curious why it behaved like that. The second PC is a fresh installation fully up to date with no MS acount logged in. Can this be a factor?

Microsoft Defender is right now using over 11 gigabytes of RAM (I have 16). It is unfortunately beating Chrome and Firefox put together. Oh and CPU usage is around 30%. I tried turning off every setting under "Virus & threat protection settings". I tried adding Defender's own files, and MsMpEng.exe, to the exclusions. I added DisableAntiSpyware to the registry under Windows Defender, tried setting it to 0 and 1. Nothing is helping, the RAM usage is literally climbing through the roof, to the point where Firefox starts crashing. Is my only solution to use a different antivirus, thereby disabling defender? How can I figure out what is causing it to shoot up? I'm running on Win10 Pro 20H2.

Is it as good at detecting viruses as other consumer brand anti virus programs like Malwarebytes? I'm particularly curious about its boot time scan function since there aren't many consumer grade programs that offer that. I was told by this one dude who tested it in a virtual machine that it really isn't that good. When he created his own malware, it basically detected nothing, while Malwarebytes for instance, did a pretty good job detecting most of it.

I am having a bunch of problem with Window 10. 1. Cannot remove bluetooth devices 2. cannot get any update: Download error - 0x80004002 3. Window Defener seems to be missing (see attached ) I am assuming all these problems are related but not sure how to fix the problem. Does anyone have any idea how I can solve these problems? I really dont want to reload windows right now.

I'm running a Windows 2016 server as a file and maybe a media server one day. My question is, do I need to have a an antivirus program installed or would windows defender be enough protection for it? I have Norton 360 on it right now (they gave me an extra key when they upgraded me). I'm thinking that windows defender should be enough but I just want some other opinions to make sure I have everything first.

Hi I was browsing group policy editor and I have stumbled upon Windows Defender Credential Guard. I was faintly aware of this feature but I didn't know it was present in Pro version of Windows. I have enabled it and lo and behold it appeared under Core Isolation sub menu. Sadly my skills are insufficient to verify weather it's actually work. The way I understand it it protects admin credentials by encrypting them so if malware exploited some system level app it couldn't use those credentials cause there is an extra verification step before access is granted. I don't know how useful it is in a home environment but it would be good to know that it;s there. Can someone shine some light on the subject pretty please. Thanks in advance.

I used windows defender to do a scan of my whole machine. It found like 40 viruses which freaked me out a little. Howerver I realised it was a kali iso i had in my downloads folder that of course containes viruses. I deleted it and expected it to be clean now. Nex scan shows i have another virus or trojan. It was a minecraft mod that was falsely flagged as virus, so i deleted it and emptied the windows trash bin. In Theory I shouldn't have it on my PC anymore but it still shows up in defender. I think it's because I deleted it manually so the Defender can't remove it. Howver it still shows up as threat and im not sure what to do.

So everytime i launch or quit pubg, i see that the Anti Malware Service executable services starts running, and it maxes out the cpu - Making the game extremely slow to launch.... Ive tried to add the folder and the exec files to the exeption list, it doesnt seem to help... Do you guys have any other suggestions?

I can't turn on Windows Defender no matter what i've tried. I deinstalled Spybot, used Malwarebytes cleaning tool (which was installed a long time ago) and cleaned the registry of unused entries. Also tried enabling it through the registry by changing ownership to Administrators and setting the turn off hex value from 1 to 0. But nothing works, it still says "Some settings are managed by your organization" and I can't do anything. And I know it disables when another antivirus is installed but everything is uninstalled now. Anyone else have experience with this?

"Antimalware service executable" is CONSTANTLY running on my laptop, and since it's a pretty old, weak machine, it gets up to around 40% CPU usage. It also seems to take up about 2GB of space when it's running, and is constantly writing to my SSD. Not ok. So I went into settings and disabled Windows defender's real-time protection, which fixed the issue. The exe is still running but no longer using more than 2% of CPU and not writing to the disk. Also the 2GB of storage it was taking up magically reappeared when I turned this off. After a few days, however, I booted up the laptop and noticed it had turned itself back on. It's done this several times since: Taking up CPU and disk usage again, as well as that random 2GB of space. I basically have to go in and turn it off once every 3-5 days. Does anyone know a fix so I can ACTUALLY PERMANENTLY disable this garbage?

Hi all, Since the windows 10 creators update i started encountering BSOD. The BSOD happens every time Windows executes a quick scan with windows defender. After the BSOD my notebook tries to restart, but then a message pops up saying: ''please insert a boot disk''. After the message, I force my notebook to turn off, and afterwards it starts without any problem. I have never seen this message before, and I have only gotten a BSOD once or twice (during one entire year) before the creators update. The error message during the BSOD: ''Unexpected Store Exception''. I have already tried updating all the drivers, and scanning my pc for virusses/malware with malwarebytes and adwcleaner. Fortunately, no malware was found. For the past couple of days I've been getting some really nasty intermittent performance issues. I checked Task Manager and found that MsMpEng.exe (Windows Defender) is often chomping away at upwards of 30%+ CPU usage. It does not seem to care what I'm doing at the time. If anything, it seems to happen more when I'm gaming than not. This just randomly started happening a few days ago, it's never been an issue for me before in years of using Windows 10. I've tried several workarounds I found from some Google searching: Adding C:\Program Files\Windows Defender (either the entire folder or MsMpEng.exe by itself) to the Windows Defender exclusions list. Didn't change a thing, as far as I can tell. Checked Task Scheduler... Most of the Windows Defender options are grayed out and inaccessible to me. Tried to Set Affinity and Set Priority for the executable... "Access is denied." Tried to terminate Windows Defender through the Services Administrative Tool... again, grayed out, inaccessible. I've checked the process path from Task Manager to make sure it's not some sketchy lookalike malware file hiding out in the depths of AppData or something.. nope, it's C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe. I tried to start up a manual Full Scan and leave it running over night, in the hopes that that would satisfy its scan-lust for awhile. I'm still having the issue today, so I guess that did nothing. The only thing that seems to work with any consistency is to go into Windows Defender's settings and turn off Real-Time Protection. But as the description text says, it automatically turns itself back on after a bit. Plus, I shouldn't have to turn it off. It's been fine forever until now. Most of the stuff I've found online about this seems to assume it's normal scanning behavior. This has been going on for like 72 hours at this point, it's had time to complete a full scan tens of times over. Presumably my PC has been doing normal Defender scans all along without issue. Anyone have any ideas?

I have negative MHz numbers in ThrottleStop which is because of the Windows Defender (the ThrottleStop guy said this to me, but he can't remember how to fix this). What I need to change in the Windows Defender to allow the ThrottleStop read the correct MHz numbers?

So I've got a friend's defective HDD a while back to try and save some files for her, I needed to copy everything to my computer with a Linux Distro (to avoid windows UAC as it was taking forever to take ownership of the files and I feared the HDD would give up before it would finish) and then I waited for her to get her new laptop, she brought it here and I just copied everything to her new laptop from windows through a network share! Thing is, she had the install wizard of a "speed checker" in her files, and Windows defender caught that! I didn't see it, since I was not looking at the computer screen, and, when I finally saw that, all files were already moved and gone from my HDD. Now Windows Defender is constantly telling me it has found an issue and it always says it's that file,"PC-SPEED-UP-SILENT-UPDATER.EXE" that suposedly was in the backup folder I created for her files well that file isn't in my PC anymore, that directory doesn't even exist! But it won't go away! I tied telling Windows Defender to remove it, to allow it,to put it in quarantine, but nothing seems to work! I'm out of ideas here and the notifications are very, very annoying! Did anyone had this problem before? It's been a month I'm trying to get rid of it, but nothing seems to work. -
I want to buy a security app for my pc, but I want to know which one is better? I'm a long time user fo Eset Internet Security, but my friend told me to try Bitdefender supposedly it should be better than Eset, but I'm not sure. What I like about Eset is that it's lightweight and it's not that annoying in the notification side. Thanks

I've never really been one for anti-virus software mainly because I am extremely repelled by the marketing side of things, so when I first saw Windows 10, and with it, Windows Defender, I was like "Huh, sure thing". Do you guys trust Windows Defender as the lone security/anti-virus software? I find I rely it 100% of the time I'm using my PC and as a result have become comfortable on it. It seems to do all it says with no strings attached.

Hi all, I have a question, has anyone had an issue with Win10 where Windefend or 'MsMpEng.exe' is using 100% of your disk? I had this issue when I first got my gaming rig a few months ago and it was slow as hell, wondering what was causing it I made this discovery. The only work arounds I found was to disable Defender in the registry and disable all of the services, which helped but my disk was still hitting 80%. In the end the only way around this was for me to get an SSD and reinstall Win10. My issue has been solved but I am asking this question because a friend of mine has the same issue, surely there must be a fix for this other than installing Win10 onto an SSD? Any help appreciated.

Ok so the problem is that i can't turn off Windows Defender no matter what, it always keeps turning itself on, i tried disabling it with regedit, gpedit.msc(group policy i believe), control panel and from windows defender. It just keeps turning itself on

So while I know Windows Defender isn't the best functioning antivirus program available, I'm a big fan of the 'common senseTM' antivirus that hasn't yet let me down, and it's faaaar more lightweight than free alternatives (I'm traumatised after using the old clunky Avast for years on an XP desktop with less RAM than a modern toaster). Problem: The problem began on one of my desktops, and the next day effected my laptop as well (both running Windows 10 Pro with all but one update installed). Windows 10 had a popup saying 'Antivirus etc is turned off', so when I open Windows Defender and click 'Start Now', about 1 min later it throws an error 'The service couldn't be started 0x800705b4'. When I try to manually start the Defender service in services.msc, it immediately throws an error 'The Windows Defender Service started and then stopped...etc'. In my Windows Updates, there is an update that consistently fails (KB2267602 Defender Definitions) while other updates install just fine, this might just be because the Defender service isn't running? The problem is exactly the same on the two different computers. Things I've tried: Since viruses tend to go after your antivirus first, I decided to install other antivirus to check if there was anything malicious causing this. Both Malwarebytes and Comodo detected nothing untoward on both machines. I tried running an 'sfc/scannow' and 'Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth', SFC found errors but was unable to fix them (even in safe mode), DISM ran but there was an error with that too (can't remember what it was but can find out again if you'd like to know). Convinced a Windows update broke it, I spent a lot of time deleting update folders and wiping update histories etc. After reinstalling updates and getting everything back as it was, still the only update that didn't install was KB2267602 (it's not installed already by the by). I'm kind of out of ideas other than a full Windows reinstallation (which would be inconvenient as I usually only access the desktop remotely) or *shudder* using some other free antivirus. Any tips in the right direction would be much appreciated
