Soundcloud: Coming soon Nvidia Announces Titan V Source 1: posted by Max_Settings https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870611-nvidia-announces-titan-v-volta/ Source 2: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12135/nvidia-announces-nvidia-titan-v-video-card-gv100-for-3000-dollars Last night at the NIPS Conference, NVidia announced their new Titan V GPU with a golden shroud Available for purchase today for $3,000 It has the same GPU as the Tesla V100 which is $10,000 TITAN V is targeted at machine learning scientists who want to simply install the card into their desktop PCs, and not rely on a special server, storage, or networking. keeps the TITAN branding as opposed to GeForce TITAN Machine learning workloads favor heavy-duty matrix math operations which require massive memory bandwidth Specs: 5120 CUDA cores 110 DL TFLOPS that’s 9x times the deep learning computing horsepower of its predecessor 1455 MHz boost clock 815 mm2 die (GV100) 80 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) 12GB of 1.7GHz HBM2 attached via a 3072-bit memory bus. Each memory controller is associated with a ROP partition and 768 KB of L2 cache, bringing L2 down to 4.5 MB 21.1 billion transistors vapor chamber cooler with copper heatsink and 16 power phases 250W TDP NVIDIA is first and foremost promoting it as a workstation-level AI compute card, though it will still be a capable video card with all the appropriate outputs Titan V gets the GV100 GPU’s full, unrestricted FP64 compute and tensor core performance. What does separate the Titan from the Tesla: memory capacity, memory bandwidth, and the lack of NVLink functionality. Uses the standard GeForce driver stack ts Volta architecture underwent a serious revamping of the SM processor design at the core of the GPU, which should provide twice the energy of efficiency Pascal. This allows for major boosts in FP32 and FP64 performance, within the same power envelope. AMD and Qualcomm join forces on Always Connected PCs Source 1: posted by TheLinusPortal https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869611-amd-and-qualcomm-join-forces-to-power-higher-end-connected-pcs/ Source 2: https://www.engadget.com/2017/12/05/amd-qualcomm-always-connected-pc-ryzen-snapdragon/ AMD and Qualcomm are teaming up to make Always Connected PCs on AMD's "Ryzen" mobile platform while using Snapdragon LTE modems to enable gigabit connection speeds. The Ryzen chipsets can provide decent frame rates for mid range games like League of Legends or Overwatch. Since the higher-end CPU can reach 3.8GHz Marrying this performance with Snapdragon's X16 LTE modems means that laptops could be powerful enough for online gaming over cellular connections. When you take a picture or download a document, the SPU will generate a unique key that is required to decrypt the data in the file. It can even be used to generate keys for text messages in apps like Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp. The SPU is isolated from other systems to help prevent hacking. Its new image signal processor will be able to capture 4K HDR video at up to 60 fps. It can record 480 fps at 720p, or 240 fps at 1080P It’s 25 to 30% faster than the current Snapdraong 835. 8 new Kryo 385 CPU cores, four A75 cores that run at up to 2.8 GHz (up from 2.4 GHz on the SD 835) and four A55 efficiency cores The new Adreno 630 GPU is both 30% faster and 30% more power efficient than the Snapdragon 835's Adreno 540. Rapid Fire AMD Silently Lowers Radeon RX560 Specs Source 1: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12122/amd-silently-lowers-radeon-rx-560-specifications AMD has silently lowered the specifications of the Radeon RX 560 to encompass parts with 14 CUs (896 Stream Processors), allowing them to be sold alongside standard 16 CU (1024 SP) parts. This allows AMD and its partners to market and ship lower-performing Radeon RX 460-level products under the "RX 560" branding. Sometime within the past few months the Radeon RX 560 product page on AMD's website was silently changed to include the lowered 14 CU specifications In July the site still said "16 CUs" only US lawmaker wants anti-loot box law Source 1: posted by Frankenburger https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870381-us-lawmaker-lays-out-plans-for-anti-loot-box-law/ Source 2: http://www.pcgamer.com/us-lawmaker-who-called-out-star-wars-battlefront-2-lays-out-plans-for-anti-loot-box-law/ Source 3: https://youtu.be/_akwfRuL4os Hawaii Republican Chris Lee posted a video to YouTube in which he calls for "future protections for kids, youth, and everyone when it comes to the spread of predatory practices in online gaming." He wants to ban the sale of such games to gamers under the age of 21 Would that actually do anything?? "These kinds of lootboxes and microtransactions are explicitly designed to prey upon and exploit human psychology in the same way casino games are so designed," Frankly, we don't need to change the laws in every state...We just need to change a few and it will be enough to draw the line and compel change." Steam no longer accepts Bitcoin Source 1: posted by VegetableStu https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870288-steam-no-longer-accepts-bitcoin/ Source 2: https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/1464096684955433613 Yes, Steam did in fact accept Bitcoin as payment, but not anymore, due to high fees and volatility in the value of Bitcoin. When Steam first added Bitcoin as a method of payment, transaction fees were roughly $0.20. Now they’ve creeped as high as $20 per transaction. These fees are passed on to the consumer and result in unreasonably high costs for games The value of Bitcoin is only guaranteed for a certain period of time so if the transaction doesn’t complete within that window of time, then the amount of Bitcoin needed to cover the transaction can change. The normal solution is to either refund the original payment to the user, or ask the user to transfer additional funds to cover the remaining balance. In both these cases, the user is hit with the transaction fee again! Steam may re-evaluate accepting BTC at a later date. Google pulls YouTube from Amazon devices (again) Source 1: posted by davrosG6 https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869948-google-is-pulling-youtube-from-amazon-devices-again/ Source 2: https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/05/google-is-pulling-youtube-from-echo-show-and-fire-tv-as-feud-with-amazon-continues/ Earlier this fall, Google pulled the YouTube app from Amazon’s Echo Show devices due to dissatisfaction with the implementation The app was missing subscriptions, related videos, commenting, sharing, and more But a few weeks ago, YouTube returned to Echo devices- but apparently without Google’s consent! Amazon had apparently built a work-around by implementing the web version of YouTube. This version was also built without Google’s input Google learned about it from the press, like everyone else The new version overlays voice controls on top of the experience, which Google claims is a violation of its Terms of Service Now, Youtube has been pulled from the Echo Show, and FireTV users have been warned that the app will disappear on January 1st. Is the removal temporary? “We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services...But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.” Mega Man X Games coming to modern platforms Source 1: posted by SlipperyPete https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/869840-mega-man-x-games-coming-to-pc-switch-ps4-and-xbox-one/ Source 2: https://kotaku.com/mega-man-x-collection-coming-to-ps4-xbox-one-switch-1820983270 Capcom has announced that all eight Mega Man X games are coming to current-gen platforms, including the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, in the summer of 2018. Mega Man X started on the Super Nintendo as a sort of soft-reboot for the classic 2D platforming series. The series spanned across the SNES, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2 before finally ending with Mega Man X8 in 2004. Mega Man Legacy Collections 1 and 2, which together include Mega Man 1 through 10, will come to Switch in 2018. Capcom also announced Mega Man 11 for current-gen platforms. The games are likely to be released separately and not as a collection but this hasn't been confirmed Nintendo games coming to NVIDIA SHIELD in China Source 1: https://www.slashgear.com/nintendo-games-coming-to-nvidia-shield-but-theres-a-catch-05510784/ You’ll soon be able to play Nintendo games on a third-party machine as Nintendo is porting full Wii and GameCube games to the NVIDIA SHIELD which just launched in China. the first three titles are New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, PUNCH-OUT!! All of these games have been remastered in 1080p for the release. Super Mario Galaxy is planned for release, though we don’t know when. BUT we’ll likely never see these releases outside of China The Switch isn’t available in China so Nintendo is using the Shield as a foot in the door. It is possible that these games will come to the Switch through a virtual console though, as it has similar hardware to the Shield. 2018 iPhone Rumours Source 1: posted by RorzNZ https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/870622-2018-iphone-to-sport-61-display-and-new-colours/ Source 2: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-2018-lcd-metal-back-colors,news-26231.html edge to edge displays A model with a metallic back and an LCD display. It defeated the world’s best Chess bot, Stockfish, after just 4 hours of self-training. It spent two hours learning shogi—a Japanese version of chess that’s played on a bigger board—and then defeated one of the best bots around. It defeated previous human-champion-beating AlphaGo after 8 hours of training. The drone will hover over your head playing the loud music until you leave. T-Frend can take a pre-programmed flight across the office autonomously, using its sensors to navigate around walls and other obstacles. T-Rend also functions as a security drone, filming surveillance footage and storing the data on an SD card. The drone’s developers are also considering outfitting it with facial recognition technology to help spot burglars and other intruders after-hours. T-Frend is expected to be launched in April, with a target price of around $4,400 a month.

Microsoft has been started to sell the Lumia 950 and 950 XL in other regions already, beside the U.S and Canada, like India, and the U.K. Today, Microsoft launches the Lumia 950 and 950 XL in the Philippines, with a shipping date of December 14. Article on Windows Central I know some friends of mine back home (in the Philippines) would be excited for this. To be honest, I would want to own one, but I'm still tied to my family's contract (and still stuck using a Galaxy S4 for another year). If Is still lived in the Philippines, I'd get this as a birthday present (or ask someone to get it for me).
