For some context before I explain what's happening, here's the specs of the PC, - Ryzen 5 5600 - Gigabyte Aorus b550m pro-p (bios rev f15a) - 16gb 3200mhz G skill aegis - ROG Strix 6700xt - Super Flower Leadex III argb 650W Gold - win 11 education edition 64 bit (was free back when I was in school) - WD black sn750 500gb - Samsung 970 pro Evo 500gb I've included the model of the PSU as I think it's possibly causing the issue. It was bought in mid 2021 whereas everything else was bought in mid 2022. To keep things short, - It turns on, but doesn't post - fans spin, however no lights on the motherboard or anything connected to the motherboard (psu has its own RGB) - I've tried rearranging the cables plugged into the PSU and it powered on once, prompting me to reset my fTPM (which possibly leads me to believe it's a CPU issue) but not again. - issue persists when I remove the CPU power cable - I've had the motherboard replaced recently as I thought that it was the issue, however, behaviour has been the same pre and post repair - when turning the power supply on at the switch, the LEDs on my CPU block and pump/res light up for a split second. The two things I can think that might've caused a possible issue is that; For a few months, I was running ~1.3V for a 4.6ghz OC on the CPU but I toned it down to stock after a bsod one day. I can't remember the error message since it's been a while. Didn't have any more until leading up to the issue. Secondly, I went on holiday for roughly a month and accidentally left the PC running Minecraft (not doing anything, game was just open) whilst I was away. My PC, since I cleaned it, wont boot. It shows CPU error on the motherboard LEDs. I could buy a new one but I cant see any bent pins or damage on neither of the components. Is my CPU maybe dead? It worked before and i dont have a secound motherboard atm. Any Tips?

Hey guys, so today when I turned on my computer, the system turned on, my ram lit up fans turned on etc, but no display, was working earlier that day so confused I press the power button on the case to reset and I seen sparks fly from the case. I quickly unplugged everything, after investigating I found the damage as you can see in the picture. So I guess what my question is, is there anything that can be done for the card and what might have caused this to happen, just a bad card or could there be a problem with my system?. I'm picking up a 3070 tomorrow hopefully and don't want there to be a problem when I try to put it into my system. A little info on the system, b550 aorus master motherboard Ryzen 9 3900x Aorus gtx 1080ti Hx1000i platinum power supply I've had the system for over 2 years with no problems and recently upgraded the motherboard and cpu, about 4 months ago with what's listed above, haven't had any troubles before this. I powered on the system without the graphics card to make sure it's still working, everything seemed fine, no error codes in the read out on the board but won't know till I get a replacement card Cheers in advance

Hello everyone, I am having a very strange issue involving upgrading my cpu. To start, my current computer hardware is: 1080TI Founders Edition GPU, 2x8gb DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RAM, 2x8gb DDR4 TridentZ G.Skill RAM, Corsair CX650M power supply, and most importantly to this post, a Gigabyte z170x-Gaming 7 motherboard, and an Intel i5 7600k CPU (overclocked to 4.6 Ghz). It also may be relevant to say that I am living in Canada, BC. To summarize my past 4 months of cpu troubles; I have purchased 3 different CPUs and none of them have worked with my Gigabyte z170x-gaming 7 motherboard. I first ordered an i9 9900k from new egg, but within a week the order was canceled because the seller was out of stock. I then ordered an i7 7600k CPU also from new egg and this processor actually arrived! It is worth noting that the packaging of this CPU definitely showed that this CPU had been used or at least had been opened (even tho it was advertised as brand new). Unfortunately, I determined that this CPU was dead because when it was installed in my motherboard, the lights and fans would flash on and then immediately shut off. By replacing the i7 CPU with my current i5 CPU, my system would boot perfectly. The refund process of this CPU was not a good experience and ended up taking about 2 months to get my money back because the seller was unable to do an RMA. The third CPU I ordered is an i9 9900KF from Amazon. I got a CPU without the internal graphics because it was a great deal and I luckily have a GPU so it shouldn’t be a problem. This CPU arrived in brand new packaging with a sealed box and sealed manual. After installing this brand new CPU, I have run into the exact same issue as I was having with the previous i7 7600K CPU. The fans and lights will turn on for less than a second before shutting off, but when I install my old i5 CPU my system works great. What are the odds that I have received two back-to-back dead CPUs from two completely different sellers on different websites and different model CPUs? The part of this that confuses me is that I am currently running an intel i5 7600k cpu on this motherboard and it works with no issues. I think I’ll refund the CPU through Amazon.ca and try again? Any suggestions or feedback on what I should do at this point would be greatly appreciated!

So i just built this computer today and it was on a hour and then i smelled a burnt smell and tgen the pc shut off the cpu light comes on but thats it has anyone else had this issue

Recently my cpu died on me for no reason. I had put a ryzen 5 3600 into my pc along with new ram, and it worked for two days, before completely dying. I put my old r3 1300x back in the system and it works perfectly fine. I can get a refund from amazon, but I want to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen. No overclocks were done, and under loads temps never got above 78ish (kind of warm, I was using stock cooler). I was told by a friend that there is something about how when there is heat it can cause the motherboard to contract and flex and it can break a cpu. As far as I know, I did nothing wrong and the cpu was just not built fully correctly causing it to eventually die after two days. I also updated by bios to the latest one before putting the cpu in. I also initially replaced my power supply because I thought that was the issue, but I figure that if my old crappy psu shocked my cpu it would also kill the socket, so I don't believe that is what happened. Epic FAIL! I killed my i7 3770 + B75M-Plus and i5-3570 + P8 Z77V AT SAME TIME... Here is what happened Q_Q... So I just wanted to swap CPU's: move i7 processor to P8 motherboard and move i5 to B75. Being overconfident and all, I removed both cpus and then... tried installing i7 into P8 in a VERY uncomfortable position. I just placed heatsink on top of cpu without actually mounting it just to see if the system would post... IT DID NOT!. Then I tried putting i5 back to P8. It did not post either. Then I tried the other motherboard, no post... So about 2 hours later I noticed the P8 socket pins were damaged (it appears that when I tried installing i7 in p8 in an uncomfortable position, I heavily damaged socket pins). The damaged pins killed both CPUs and apereantly the dead CPU's killed the B75 motherboard too (which is rather strange). I took both cpus and boards to the shop and they confirmed ALL 4 of them dead I know I kind of deserved this and also both cpus and boards are kind of old but it would be really nice if there was something I could do (about CPUs), don't really care about boards. Something crazy, linus tech tipsy kind of thing like friend cpus in microwave or something? any suggestions? Thanks ^^

Hey I built my first PC and when it didn't post i notice this red led so i checked the mobo manual and its the led light for the CPU so i double checked i installed it right double checked all cables and standoffs and still didn't work then tried with single dimm in all 4 lots am i missing anything or is my CPU DOA. also all case fans work and the CPU fan works and the psu works fine and the GPU lights up and appears to work im running ryzen 7 1700 stock cooler gigabyte ax370 k3 g-skill rip-jaws 16gb kit intel 600p 512gb ssd 2tb barracuda evga sc2 1080ti evga g2 750w psu

My PC is not booting (black screen) and my monitor is connected to the GPU, so I do believe that my intel i7 6700k CPU was killed by Dual Intelligent Processors 5 Overclocking Features (Asus ROG Software), I tried to use their auto overclock settings with my maximus viii hero motherboard, and set my config target to 45 multiplier or 4.5ghz, 1.2v, my ram is 3200mhz with 1.35 volts (ram is running fine 3200mhz configured in bios) Then, after clicking to start, my monitor suddenly went black, i waited for a few minutes and nothing happened, so i tried to restart my pc, while the fans, coolers, Gpu, and motherboard lights are running, i cant see any display on my monitor I checked my motherboard and found a status q code 00, i tried to update my bios through the back with usb, i removed parts except for ssd, clicked for 30 seconds the reset cmos but nothing happened. So I am assuming that my CPU died. I would like some tips or help on what to do first in a situation like this. Thanks.

I've got an open air case and my neighbor's cat peed on it. The PC was turned on as I was copying files. It doesn't boot nor beeps (after drying for 3 days),but my GPU still has display when tested on a friend's rig. I got a new motherboard and PSU but still nothing. The fans would spin for a sec then turn off-- no post, no beeps. I can't test my CPU on friend's rig as we have diferent sockets. Could that damned cat pee shorted my mobo killed my CPU but not my GPU? Most of it was on my GPU and PCIe x16.

Hi, as you can see my 6700K has a corner broken off. It is now completely separated. Is it possible to 3D Print the broken part (dummy obviously), glue it and use the cpu as a show-piece? Doing this for a school project.

I been trying to figure out what has been wrong with my pc. This is my 3rd built both of my first and second didnt have any problems. As of right now, the pc turns on fans spin up and everything but no post and I cant get into bios. On the motherboard on the trouble shooting led the first one comes on which indicates something is wrong with the cpu. I uninstalled the fan and checked if the cpu was placed correctly and it was. (I had memory express do a quick mount for the cpu and ram and do a test boot in store, I have a odd feeling they didn't do a test boot to see if it would even go into bios because the usb 4 was damaged beyond repair all the pins were bent and missing since they said they always inspect everything before giving it over to the customer) I already tried switching ram and graphics card they didn't help. Ultimately I swapped to a i7-8700k into the motherboard and that worked. Does anyone know is this a dead i5-9400F or is there something else that could be preventing me from booting up and entering bios.

Hello everyone , the last week i bought a new pc (ryzen 2400g , asrock b450 pro4 , thermaltake 600w rgb psu , hyper x 8 3000mhz ram ,toshiba 1TB hdd ) assembled everything and jumpstarted the pc,the fans started spinning for 2 secs and then the pc turned off , today i realized that everytime i start the pc with the 8 pin power connector of the cpu unplugged the pc stays on ,could it be that the power supply i am using is not capable of powering the cpu ? could it be that the cpu is dead ?(i also noticed that the cpu heats up so i dont think that the problem is the cpu) Thank you for your time.

Hi there, I build a new pc, with only a few used parts. The issue is that the pc fans spin normal and lights go on, the motherboard is receiving power, but the pc only goes into bios. I tried reinstalling the cpu into the socket, i tried putting the ram in a different slot and I tried to start without gpu and put the gpu in a different slot. ( I know that the gpu, mobo, psu work) the specs are: intel pentium g4400 (I bought it used) asus prime h270-plus (new) seagate barracuda 1TB (new) cooler master mwe 650 psu (new) 1x 8gb corsair vengeance 3000mhz (new) asrock phantom gaming rx 570 8g OC (used) I am thinking that the cpu might be dead, but wouldnt the pc even go into bios if that was the case? When I’m in bios and i select the hdd as primary boot option, i still cant boot it just goes into bios. Please help me if you have any ideas that could help me get the answer to this problem. Hello people of this forum, I have bought a used cpu (i5 6600k), as an upgrade for what I have now (pentium g4400), after having it installed I tried booting but I got no display. I am sure that I installed the cpu correctly and all the power connectors are connected. All the fans run and the pc seems like its running but there is just no display. I have tried changing the RAM slots, but that didn't help anything. I now have reinstalled my old cpu and my pc works fine. I really trust the seller of the used cpu, so I don't think that I got scammed. Could there be other factors or things that cause this problem? I know that the mobo supports the cpu, but my knowledge ends there. Maybe something to do with bios? My specs are: i5 6600k (pc works with the pentium g4400) Asus prime h270-plus mobo 2x 8 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM Asrock rx 570 8g gpu CoolerMaster MWE 650w psu Seagate barracuda 1TB hdd Thank you for your time, I hope someone has the solution.

My friend (1) & I built him a new system which he recently upgraded. The original build had a z170 motherboard paired with an i5 7600k. The processor was overclocked. He then swapped out the z170 for a z270 sold the z170 to one of our other friends (2) who then used that z170 to build his own system. Friend (2)'s system ran great for about a month and then all of a sudden it just shut off randomly and couldn't turn back on. We later found that the CPU & Motherboard were fried. I was hoping someone here could confirm or deny the validity of my theory here: Friend (1) had an overclocked processor in the z170 Friend (1) did not reset the board to default before passing it along Friend (2) had a Pentium g4560 in the z170 Is it possible that when the z170 board booted up for the 1st time with the G4560 installed, that for a moment, the board was expecting the overclock-able chip and delivered too much power to the G4560 until it then realized there was a different CPU? Just a bit too much voltage that it didn't fry it immediately but led to the eventual failure of the CPU and, in this case, the motherboard as well. In addition to my original question, when adding a new CPU to a motherboard, how long do the settings in the BIOS stay how they were or do they reset when detecting a new CPU?

So.... I had my lovely i7 4790K running at 4.8GHz for a good 2 years now since I built my computer, and a couple of months ago it started crashing on me, I narrowed down the issue to the clock speed only a week or two ago, by that time my computer was bluescreening whenever I opened a program, so I started bringing it down, and down, and down, until now I'm at stock clock speed and it's bluescreening whenever I'm putting my computer under intense load, for example, while rendering a 1080p video and playing a light video game like CS:GO. So I decided I needed an upgrade, Ryzen Threadripper seems to be a very compelling option, the 1950X is currently $850 on amazon, but I needed to swap out the CPU, motherboard, CPU cooler, since mine doesn't support TR4, and RAM. I decided to go with the Asus PRIME X399-A, which is currently the cheapest motherboard at $300 on Newegg, I want to go for the CoolerMaster LiquidLite 240, which is the cheapest 240mm liquid cooler at $50 on Newegg, and finally the RAM, I went for the 2x16 kit of DDR4 memory from crucial which is priced at $308 at Adorama. I have a few questions about the upgrade I'm planning. 1. Should I go with Ryzen Threadripper? I want the best price to performance ratio and Threadripper is at the i9 7900X for around $100 cheaper. 2. The RAM I picked has no heat spreader, I went with that because of the price, does it matter or are heat spreaders mainly aesthetic? 3. I have a Corsair AX860i power supply which I want to use in this build, the total system power consumption when taking into account storage and DVD drive is 847 watts on pcpartpicker, I'm planning to overclock, so is my PSU enough to run the system? 4. What will happen if the PSU doesn't have enough wattage, will any of the components be damaged or will the system simply not turn on? 5. I have a corsair H110i GTX liquid cooler, is there a mounting bracket I can use instead of buying a whole new AIO liquid cooler? 6. Does anyone have links to cheaper parts than listed above? Alright, it's my 3rd issue in a way too short period of time. I was casually gaming with my computer and then suddenly, black screen. At first I tought it was an overheat, as my cooler was damn hot. The only odd thing I noticed however was that my cpu fan was not spinning when thrying to reboot, and I had no video signal, either when plugged on the igpu or my 980ti. After a couple of minutes using my room fan to blow a crap load of air on the cooler, my computer rebooted as if nothing happened, but, tonight, it happened again, with a fairly light game however, my cpu cooler was barely hot to the touch... The same weird thing with the fan happened and after blowing a crap of air in the cooler, my computer went back on again. however, after 5 mins, it went back offline again and now it wont boot. (I have another exact fan as the one on my cpu cooler and yet, whatever fan header I use they won't turn on after air is blown on them for 5 mins, or, most likely, after a random amount of time. One weird thing however is that the fan splitter that comes with my case is still working, all the fans plugged into it are responsive, and the splitter is plugged in one of my headers.) Every single one of my cables are connected properly and my cpu cooler always kept my cpu at max 75c even under 100% load. My pc suddenly would turn off, and then restarting without the CPU fan spinning but active had and psu and no post,and after a while all was fine. But now it doesn't start at all. Is it a dead motherboard or cpu?

Hey, looking for some advice on my laptop. I have a CQ61-417SA which had a dead graphics chip on the motherboard (no display working, fans powered on, caps lock/num lock flashing) so I ordered a new motherboard, took the cpu out and cleaned the old thermal paste away. New motherboard arrived a week later so I put it into the laptop, applied new thermal paste and tried to power on however now all that happens is the power indicator LED and wifi indicator LED turns on for a second then turns off. No fans, no display, no other LED's. The charging LED indicator comes on when the battery is plugged in which makes me think its not an issue with the power. Tried reverting back to the old motherboard and am now having this exact same issue on that old one aswell. This makes me think that somewhere between me taking the cpu (AMD Athlon II M320) out of the old motherboard and it going into the new one it got damaged. Tried the RAM sticks in multiple different configurations to see if that would make a difference, tried holding down the power button to discharge and electricity in it, nothing seems to be working. Am I missing anything else that it could be or does it look like I will need to get a new cpu aswell? Thanks in advance for any guidance

This is a question for everyone out there: have you ever had a cpu die from long-term overclocking? I've heard many people say that overclocking a cpu will reduce it's lifespan, but I can't remember seeing a thread where someone reported a dead cpu from overclocking. I'm curious to know if anyone has experienced a cpu death that they attribute to long-term overclocking. I know this is a subjective kind of question, as I expect it's difficult to prove that a cpu died from overclocking, but I'm betting you can make a good guess. Personally my oldest overclocked cpu is a Q6600 at 3.4 GHz (stock 2.4), and it's still going strong. I've phased it out with better replacements over the last few years, but it didn't die on me, even after 7 years of reasonably strenuous use and a 24/7 overclock. If you've never had a cpu die, what sort of time periods have you had overclocks active on your cpus? Have you see degradation in your overclocks? I've got a 3930k at 4.5 GHz that I've been running for two years with no signs of slowing down.
