For a bit of back story why need to find suppliers for materials, I am a student who is doing the hsc in Australia. I am doing design and technology and I am building a pc case which has features of being easy to swap out parts if something gets damaged or for upgrades, semi low maintainance, easy for beginners & people who have imparements who find it hard to handle small pieces, easier cable management as well as having good dust filtration and being easily upgradable in the future. These are some of the things I am covering for my project which is due in roughly a year. The first thing I was looking at was making my own custom standoffs, I know standoffs can be annoying to put in and easy to lose. I was wanting to know who would be able to manufacture small designs. I don't really mind what the region is but I prefer something that is kinda close like Asia pacific. The next thing was dust filtration mesh. I am not sure if I should go for a nylon or plastic. If do go for nylon, what is the best type of nylon which has maximum airflow while keeping the majority of dust out? Something else I was also looking at was custom connectors for USB3 headers, as I have seen so many fails of people damaging them. I was wondering where would be able to get custom connectors made? If anyone could provide any support or advice that would be greatly appreciated. I'll post my journey along the way

I'm in the midst of designing and building a custom-loop water-cooled desk PC. I had been planning this build for a couple of years and was partially inspired by a build online (https://voltcave.com/setup/mamodified/). The plan is to have a clean looking white custom loop water-cooled system built into the left-top drawer (with false-bottom for cable management), the desk itself will be modified to include a viewing window cut into the wood above, back air outflow and flush USB port access (Desk_V1.9.skp). Earlier this year (2022) I stumbled across a (free) desk in need of restoration (Desk_1.png), after this discovery I decided to use it as my build's ‘bones’ and have since been using Google SketchUp to plan and iterate the design (Desk_V1.9.skp). I am still building the prototype (Drawer-Prototype_1.png) which has brought about multiple design changes (including a deeper drawer, different corners, etc.). Whilst I plan on this being a long build, especially as I have never (custom-loop) water cooled a system before, let alone built the case around it, I still plan on re-building the draw as many times as it takes before I purchase the final (more obsolete sensitive) parts (including the GPU, Motherboard, Ram, and CPU.) I got the inspiration to do this from Linus’s desk PC build. This is still in very early stages but it’s going to be made out of 19mm MDF with a tempered glass top of course. It’s going to be able to hold 2 pc’s at once, one for gaming the other for nas/ capturer pc/ what ever. what do you think of my sketch up so far??

So I am thinking of building a gaming and video editing PC. The only catch is that now, I have an idea of potentially building one in a nintendo entertainment system. I know that people have done it before, but I don't know if it can be done. I have been thinking of things to consider, but I don't know if I'm forgetting anything or if I should just scrap this idea for good. I am getting hardware that I know will be good for video editing and gaming, but I do know some limitations 1: Power: My estimated peak power use is about 330 watts given my components and work load use cases (namely a intel Xeon Haswell and GTX 1060 mini). No pico PSU can handle that power that I know of. I would need at least a 500W power supply (I'm giving myself extra headroom for paranoia reasons). This leads to my second limitation... 2: Size: I am aware that a full size PSU and a mini ITX motherboard can't fit in an NES together. I would need to do something also about all the heat generated, going into... 3: Airflow: There is next to no ventilation in an NES, so modding the case would be needed to be able to put a fan anywhere. I know if by some act of God I were able to do this, I would have a fan on the bottom of the system blowing into the NES to cool it with a smaller fan on one of the sides to get the heat out. Again, I know it most likely isn't possible, so I just wanted to get a second opinion from the LTT community. Maybe this can give @LinusTech or @Slick an idea for a video if they think it could be possible.

For my senior project, I decided to build a computer case, and I'm currently at the stage of working inside the case. The chassis of the tower is made from sheet tin. I'm not really into electricity, but I've heard a lot of short-circuiting your motherboard if it's not mounted correctly. I decided to mount a faulty motherboard that no longer works for measuring purposes on acrylic. I used small stand-off screws that are drilled into the motherboard, but 2 of them stick out from the other side. I've tried looking for solutions but haven't found an option besides wood which still I'm quite skeptical of the idea. I hope this isn't anything stupid, but I don't want to risk my expensive rig. I attached photos of the case and highlighted my concerns.

I know there have been a lot of Desk PCs built on this forum and around the internet, but I have one complaint, the PCs are always awesome but the desks are often...meh. With this build I am building a live edge walnut slab desk then cutting it to shreds and putting in a way over the top water cooled PC. Hey guys! My name is Connor, I co-own Affinity Collective which is a small time technology channel on YouTube, we use our channel to obviously create videos but also for learning. We have gotten a lot better with filming and editing techniques, but all criticism is appreciated! But lets get on to the meat and potatoes... So I had some extra wood lying around... and I had my computer... So I decided to build a computer case out of wood! To be fair it's a little rough, but for spending less then $60.00 in materials, it's pretty sweet! Watch The Video On It Here (Spoiler: Contains Some Bokehlicious B-Roll) As you'll see in the video, the case was built using 98% 1/2" Birch Plywood, and then a couple pieces of 2x4 just for a stand off inside the bottom piece. The windows are all made using some 1/4 " Acrylic I got from Lowes. I used a table saw for almost all of the cutting, and the occasional use of a band saw for some of the angled pieces. I had a belt sander I used, and then a couple of drill bits for holes. It was put together with a small brad nailer. After I sanded the final product, I gave it a Special Walnut Stain that's dark enough to look okay with all of my black peripherals, and I put a semi-gloss poly coat on it as well so it would hold up a little bit better. This was my first time building anything like this, so it was a learning process for sure... Next time I'm going to try building a more minimalist design so it'll fit more conveniently in my dorm for college. Thanks guys! **Please note** The computer is not on fire!
