Hey, I'm looking at purchasing a custom built PC for using programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe After Effects and also the occasional game such as GTA. I need a computer to run all this and be able to handle it all smoothly. I have a budget set at £1500 for a decent computer. I have configured a computer on PCPARTPICKER and need opinions if it will be decent enough! Here's the list if you would like to have a look: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/FFV6qk The M.2 storage drive is for the bootup / os disk and will just handle Windows 10. Then, the HDD will handle storage such as games and documents. I may also put an SSD / another HDD in at a later date once I use up all my storage. I'm also looking for help picking a budget graphic card that will handle everything specified above. Thank you for your help!

Hi. I recently bought new computer parts for the pc I'm building (list can be seen here if needed: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/fxVmbj) and I was wondering how I could move my old hard drive into the new pc. How would I safely remove my harddrive from my previous build with my new one without the drivers of the old rig? My thoughts are I clean install but when do I unplug my hard drive and how do I safely do it.

Hi, So, I want to buy a solid gaming laptop custom built. Hidevolution is selling silicon lottery's CPU but I can't go for the best one because of the thermals even with liquid metal. So, is this https://i.imgur.com/8FaShlz.png with liquid metal ok for the thermals. I may go with this final config https://i.imgur.com/nn4Q8rO.png. Any suggestion? I don't really have a budget issue since I've been saving for a while, I want the max performance with good thermals, I don't really know where the sweet spot is.

Hi, Are custom built laptop a solid option. I want a new powerful gaming pc but can't have a desktop and have to go with laptops :'( I don't have a specific budget but just hate laptops that need 2 power bricks. I want the best performance and don't have a specific budget, less than 5K tho :(. I came across custom built laptops and was wondering if they were a solid option. Is a config like this a good idea to go with or should I stick to common gaming brands?

One of my custom build PC's (which, admittedly, has some older hardware in it, I'll post specs of the problem PC) that I gave to a family member is having bluescreens at random times. I know it's giving the error 0x00000116, which I know is somehow graphics related. However, it has blue screens even when it's not being used for gaming, playing an exceptionally older game that the card is more than capable of handling, and is getting the BSOD even after replacing the card and drivers. Nothing on it is not currently overclocked. The CPU used to be overclocked, but the overclocking was taken off well before the issues started to occur. Specs: New on this computer: -ASUS AMD Radeon RX 460 2GB Graphics card -G Skill Ripjaws DDR3 16 GB memory -Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB hard drive -LG DVD Drive -Rosewell Stryker M case -EVGA 750 G3 fully modular power supply Not new (all of which are pretty dated by now): -ASUS M4A79XTD EVO motherboard -AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2 GHz processor -Windows 7 64-bit (which is legit) We changed everything on the New list since the blue screens started, thinking it was possibly one or each of the pieces causing the crashes. We got a replacement graphics card, new SSD, new ram, a new power supply, put the good Arctic Silver thermal compound on the CPU when we installed the heat sink on it (Even though right now it's using the stock heat sink, it was crashing when using the larger, Cooler Master Hyper 212X heatsink that is currently being used on my newer PC); we even got a newer, better ventilated case. The graphics card we have in it is good. I had it going in the problem PC first, then ran it in my newer PC for a while to see if it'll give me any errors, the only issue it had was that it was causing a brief bit static on my older Asus 24" LCD monitor when the monitor turned on from sleep, then it immediately went away (the monitor was being put to sleep, not the PC). When I tried a newer Samsung 27" LED monitor on the card for a while, and tried it on my 24" viewsonic, it had no issues with static at all what-so-ever, leading me to believe that it was just the monitor acting up, not the card. I then put it back into the problem PC after using it for about a month and a half to two months without it crashing. The CPU temps are good. It's at around 31 during idle, hitting the high 40's, very low 50's when gaming (even at long periods). The graphics temps are pretty nominal too, as I was running the Radeon software to track it's temps (though I can't remember the specific temps it's getting at the moment, I remember them being pretty awesome) We tried everything we could think of in addition to getting new hardware. We ran AVG Pro multiple times, stressed tested the graphics card using Furmark, stressed the CPU (for 8 hours) using Prime95, we set the BIOS to default all of it's settings, we tried running it with minimal amount of software programs installed as possible, tried multiple PCIE slots for the graphics card, disconnecting it from the internet (we use a USB dongle for it's internet access since it's in a different room from the router and unable to be hardwired in, and I've read that sometimes the USB internet dongles can cause a blue screen and I've seen a few errors pop up in one of windows error reporting programs), I've rolled back the video drivers to the set of drivers it had before the BSOD started (we did this by not only doing it through windows Device Manager, but also by manually uninstalling the AMD drivers and then hunting down an old driver on the AMD site), and since it got a new SSD installed it also got a fresh install of Windows (7). Right now, we even went as far as turning off the printer to see it even that would work since it too is on the wireless network and I've seen a few communication authentication errors in event viewer. I know the family member that uses it now would play a game for a while; then pause the game, get up and leave PC be with the game still running on it (sometimes for an hour or more), then eventually go back and start gaming on it some more. The system primarily gets used to play (older) games on it these days and it barely gets used for anything else. Would I be wrong in assuming that it's possible that this could be a factor, like maybe it could be causing resources to work longer than necessary or possibly due to such a long play session, resources start to dwindle (such as the VRAM) until it blue screens, despite the VRAM being well above the recommended settings for the games being played on it? Any suggestions on what the next step should be before pulling the trigger and buying a new processor, MOBO, and ram RAM (and therefore OS since we have OEM)? EDIT: Adding Dump files. These are the DMPs that were added since we reinstalled COMPUTER-Thu_02_08_2018_121645_49.zip

Hey guys, This build log is gonna be a bit different from others that you have seen. This is a project that has been in the works for nearly a month now. My custom designed/built mineral oil PC. I’ve documented a bit of the design process here. SPECS: Case: Plenn-Plex 7.5 gallon radius aquarium Motherboard: ASrock X99 Extreme4 motherboard CPU: Intel i7 6800k Memory: 2x8GB Kingston HyperX savage GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1070 Storage: 250gb samsung SSD and Seagate 1TB HDD PSU: TBD (Thinking about 850g2) Radiators: 280mm Alphacool radiator Fans: TBD Pump: swiftech mcp35x Fittings: Mostly Alphacool with a few koolance parts in there Coolant: mineral oil Here are all the custom acrylic pieces laid out. Assembling something that you’ve designed yourself is always extremely satisfying and rewarding. But, like I said on my first update, If you do not have someone check your work, there are bound of be mistakes. And sadly, my mistake came very quickly “Kerf” is the amount of material that is lost when cut by a laser cutter. In my case, I have some test pieces cut out and found that the kerf was .015. A substantial amount. I compensated by making the outside edges .00625 larger, and the inside edges .00625 smaller, for a compensation of .0125. I had hoped that this would create a easier slip fit instead of a friction fit. However, the cut tolerances were not good enough. And when I tried to force the pieces together, not only did they warp out of shape, but they also cracked. A expensive mistake. Every difficult project passes a point where you want to just give up and never look at it again. And for me, this was the point. After nearly a month of design work, it failed. Immediately. However, I was already way too invested in the project to give up, so I chugged forward, just with a lighter wallet. So I remade the parts, and started assembling everything. I decided to use acrylic glue instead of nuts and bolts for aesthetic reasons. But, because the parts don't line up perfectly, there are gaps between the pieces, making it look ugly. However, where they do line up, the joints look very clean and professional. A lot of the mess can also be attributed to my lack of experience gluing acrylic. besides that, here is the frame finished. with the "front" IO as well. Lining up the radiators reveals that they do not fit quite right. Which means I need to re cut the mounting systems. At least this is a Inexpensive fix. "front" io plate also cracked when i forced the power button in. But it is so small that I can't bring myself to recut it for such a small mistake. Now, it is time for the build. I choose the ASrock x99 extreme 4 for three reasons. EVGA’s matx board has a oddly lower than normal cpu socket. Which means most large CPU coolers will block the first PCI slot. (WHY would you do this?) It was pretty cheap on ebay at only $208 The black and blue will fit in with my color scheme. I choose a 6800k because I found a pretty good deal on ebay at only $385. And since this is not a system that you upgrade often, I believe that a powerful six core processor is the best way to go. It has strong single threaded performance, and as games start to leverage more threads, the CPU will stay competitive. I also work on a lot of CAD, so the extra cores help. Normally, with most builds, I would default to a hyper 212 for cost. A noctua nh-u15s for performance, or a noctua nhu-u9s for low profile. But, as much as I love noctua, their coolers just don't look very good. So I went with the thermalright silver arrow ib-e. While it does not look good with fans, it is definitely one of the most beautiful coolers on the market if you want to passively cool your CPU.. For RAM, I originally wanted to go with g.skill tridentZ. But there were no colors that matched my build. So I went with the hyperX savage as I love it’s aggressive look, and there was a sweet deal on a used set on Amazon. It is at this point, after I have assembled everything, that I find out that on the ASrock X99 extreme 4, the ram slots on either side are flipped. WHY would you do this ASrock?! It obviously isn't for cost reasons since they now need 2 different types of ram slots. It won't affect performance or anything, but just doesn't look good unless you have symmetrical ram. Which the savage is not. Now with the motherboard mounted in, I can finally see the build coming together. @19_blackie_73 asked me to tag him. So there ya go.

Hello anyone reading this topic. I have a very urgent and upsetting issue with my computer. Recently for about a month now, my computer randomly restarts out of no where. I have taken it to computer repair shops and they said it was fine but when I took it home and turned it on, the computer restarted. It would not even let me sign into the desk top. Yesterday the computer some how worked all day. Though today I turned it on hoping it would work well again, about 30 minutes after turning on the computer it restarted itself. I have asked this same question to the people of tomshardware.com and someone told me that it could be my psu. Its a EVGA Supernova NEX650G. The guy told me that it is known for being unstable and has problems. Should I get a new psu or can this be fixed somehow?? I just need some more advice as to would it could be because I need my pc. I spent like 1000+ dollars on it. If anyone could please help me I would greatly appreciate it. PC Parts include: -intel core i7-4790k -msi Z97 Gaming 5 -EVGA Supernova NEX650G -PNY Geforce GTX 960 -Corsair H100i GTX -2x 8 DDR3 Hyper X RAM -150G SSD -1Tb HDD

First Off Ill Post computer Specs: CPU: i7 4790k stock Ram: 16gb adata 1600 Mobo: gigabyte z97 g3 Graphics: evga gtx 760 3 Monitors: 2x Dell 19" 4:3 , 24" acer 1080p. solid state drive: 120gb kingston C: main. ========================================== Started Having issues on windows 7 my wireless headset would start to crackle like it was losing connection i thought it was the headset dying but it wasnt, even on stock 3.5 jack sound it did that with windows audio, music, youtube, twitch, anything with sound it would start to do that after 4-8 hours everytime i restarted it, reinstalled audio drivers and updated and still kept doing that and after it happend 20ish times i started noticing my internet would go out as well i wouldnt be able to access internet on any of my devices at the same exact time my computer started crackling audio, im unsure if when my internet goes out it glitches and makes my computer glitch up? or if my computer is the thing taking the internet down. Reinstalled windows 7, same issues 2 days later. I Downgraded to windows 10 (Yes windows 10 was a mistake even if it wasnt having issues still) and it took about a week to start happening again. Ill post a video on youtube from my phone to show you whats happening Again to keep it short: after 4-8 hours after every restart the audio starts crackling and slowing down untill i restart it again, and my whole internet goes down at the same time on all devices. Thank you.

Hello, I just built a new computer. Windows 8.1 AMD FX - 6300 six core 3.5 GeForce GTX 750 120Gig SSD 1TB 8Gig Ram MSI MS-7693 mother broad This is not the first time I built a computer, but it is the first time I built one with a SSD and a HDD. I installed the OS on the SSD, and then once the installation was complete I went to the registry and changed the default program directory to the HDD. I changed the default library locations(Desktop, Documents, music, etc) to the HDD as well. The computer starts up just fine, but it freeze randomly and sometime my screen goes blank for thirty seconds. What could be causing this problem, and what are some way I can fix this? Also when I set up the HDD with the OS I used a GPT instead of a MBR to partition it. Thank you, Vertec

Good day all, I am new to linustechtips. I am planning to upgrade my custom built gaming PC to something more modern, this was assembled July 2012. In terms of budget, I just don’t like to put a price on my gaming experience but I’m not exactly rich. If I don’t have the money, I just need to save up. I have not been keeping up with the new/upcoming computer hardware, just been watching Linus vids when I find the time I was thinking about getting the GTX 980Ti, however I heard Nvidia is bring out their new Pascal, so I don’t know if I should wait for that architecture or buy now. In terms of the CPU, I’ve heard good things about Intel Core i7-4790K but is that a good upgrade from i7-3770K or should I wait for the upcoming successor? Also if I’m going to wait, I guess I will need to change my motherboard? I appreciate any recommendations because I really don’t know if I should wait or upgrade now. I run majority of my games at high/ultra quality, sometimes I have to disable some functions to get a better fps which I don't like doing. CPU: i7 3770K OC @ 4.2GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler Master: Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LX Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz Storage: WD 1TB Desktop Hard Drive x2 Video Card: EVGA GTX 670 FTW Case: NXZT Phantom 410 Power Supply: OCZ SERIES OCZ-ZS750W Monitor: BenQ XL2420T 24 inch Widescreen LED Monitor Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard Mouse: Logitech G500 Thanks for your help in advance.

or let the store assemble it for me and do the necessary configurations? I'm asking because it's my first ever actual PC where I chose every single component (coming from a non gaming laptop and a pre-built PC when I was a child), and I'm afraid that if I assemble it myself, that I might make some mistake or not be optimal with cable management and the like. I also want to get the most out of the stuff I'm buying, so overclocking is also something I'd like, but then again I have no confidence in myself that I'll be able to do it properly or something, or I might even break the frikin' thing (idk what is the likeliness of breaking brand new parts by improperly overclocking them). but then again it is my first PC that I can say is really my own (I don't have to share with no brother anymore), and I'm not planning to make any other or make some kind of upgrade (except for an SLI) in the future. so if I don't assemble this one now, I might never get the chance to assemble one again. so please help me guys... how dangerous or hard is it to fiddle with equipment that you never had experience with (but of course I know where some parts go like the CPU and RAM, but only until those, I don't know which port the GPU is best placed in, as well as where to properly connect the stuff for the Power Supply) ? the only time I get to see people assemble a computer is when I watch Linus's videos... will it be hard to optimize the assembly?

So I built my own PC about 2 months ago and I have been crashing in games ever since. System specs: OS: Windows 7 64bit Mobo: ASUS Z97-A CPU: i5 4460 stock cooler/clock and voltage GPU: GTX 660 FTW stock clock RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB (2x4GB) 1866 C10 PSU: EVGA 600W Bronze 80+ SSD: Samsung Evo 840 120GB with windows 7 and important programs such as Chrome HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB with everything else on it including games What happens: I play a game (FarCry 3, Smite) and everything runs smoothly for a few mins. Then, in FarCry 3, my fps drops and the animations look like they skip a frame, after that usually my game either freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-del and it unfreezes but then I have to do it again soon, and after a while my PC will just be REALLY slow and I can't ctrl-alt-del anymore or even close then game, I have to do a hard reboot. When the game freezes I can hear the HDD stop spinning as well as the GPU and CPU fans (temps drop), as well as robotic sounds. I would try to swap out parts to see what doesn't work but I don't have any spare parts laying around. I have seen many topics on many forums with people having crashes with the same card I have but none of their fixes have worked so far. Can't return parts (NCIX has only 15 days returns) What I have tried doing: Updating all drivers to newest version (including graphics driver) Rolling back to a previous graphics driver that was reported as being more stable Ran memtest and everything came out fine Took my PC apart and connected stuff 1 by 1, but can't test it during games cause I don't have an other graphics card Changed TdrDelay (wasn't there so I created it) to 4, then 30 (with reboots) Bought a new fan to reduce temps, also increased the curve for all fans in the PC, so it spins faster at lower temps, which in turn gave me lower temps but an audibly louder PC and games still froze Switched the SATA connectors on the motherfoard for the SSD/HDD/DVD rom Installed MSI afterburner to increase the GPU fan speeds and turned up the max power limit to the card from 100% to 110% Had a chat with customer support at nvidia which turned out to be useless as the guy took 5 minutes to respond and then said everything was fine Changed PCI ports for the graphics card Reinstalled windows (clean install) I would very much like to fix it myself but the only other PC parts in my house are found in my dad's PC, and I would have to take it apart, pull them and then put them back. I'd also like to throw my graphics card out the window but I don't have the money for a new one and I don't even know if it's its fault. I'll bring it into a shop to have them look at it if I can't do anything myself but I'm afraid that it'll cost too much.

Hi Everyone, I've recently been given by a friend who is now going to university a computer with some really nice parts (coming to about £4000 in total) for a much lower price <£1000. However, I really want to build a new, slightly smaller, air cooled computer and so want to sell it for about a £100-£500 profit, does anyone know any place I could sell it? I've tried eBay and Amazon to no success sadly, Many Thanks, cjsun9

Yo, I want to build a custom PC Case, that I design myself. I know you can buy Motherboard trays (I need ATX or XLATX), but I was wondering if anyone knew good places to buy them for relatively cheap? The only one I find on the internet is a Lian Li Aluminum tray, with a fan, but I don't really need it to be aluminium with a fan. I just want a plain motherboard tray, $35 and under, and was wondering if there is anywhere I can get one for cheap? Preferably an Australian store, but I don't mind international as long as the shipping is reasonable. I could probably build my own tray, but its just a lot easier to buy. Thanks in advance! Hello everyone! (Sry in advance, my English sucks) I'm pretty new to the whole PC building community and want to build my first PC. I'm not that rich so I tried to keep it on a budget while still achiving good performance on everyday related tasks as well as gaming (cant wait to play Skyrim again!). I would be deeply grateful for some feedback conserning the parts copatibilaty or even other recommandations to increase the overall performance without investing to much more. Thank you in advance! Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-UD3H Intel Z77 Socket LGA1155 Processor: Intel Core i5 3450 Boxed (LGA1155) Ram: 8GB Corsair XM3S Kit 2x4GB Graphicscard: ASUS Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB DDR5 HDD: WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB (actully I already got this one already, just a few days ago) SSD: Samsung SSD 840 EVO Series Basic 120GB Case: Zalmann Z11 Plus Midi-Tower I know it does not include an optical drive yet, I want to see if i can reuse the one that is currently installed. If this one does not work I can still buy a new one later...
