So, In the near future I'm going to buy a new AIO cooler (probably Cooler Master ML120L/120 Lite) and, as any cooler does, comes with an included fan. Now, I currently have only one fan1 on my Cooler Master MB311L case (on the back, pulling air out of the system), and I want to replace it with the AIO radiator. Now, I'll have an extra fan (the included one with the case), that I was thinking to put in front of the case, making an horizontal pull-push air configuration. What happens (and its the main question of this topic) is that I have a GPU that has horizontal fins2 (looking it from the front of the GPU), so, the only way for the hot air to go is from the front (PCIe bracket) and the back (Front of the case) of the GPU. I was wondering, if I add a fan, that pushes air in the other way as the gpu pushes it3, will it make it perform worse than just not putting fan in front of it? What other fan configs can I make that wont make my thermals worse? Note 1: Current Setup. Note 2: Horizontal GPU fins. Note 3: New Setup. Regards.

I have an intel i5 rig Not Being Used with 2x MSI 970's (4gb cards). Have been thinking about mining for a few years now. I was super hyped to mine ETH & then found out my card doesn't meet the min DAG file size. What is my best mining option with the 2x 970's (hardline watercooled)? Could Ravencoin be profitable? If not, than what other coin? ... I built a newer rig mid 2020 with a Ryzen 9 3950x, Radeon 5700 XT THICC III. Based on the value of pc hardware right now, I am contemplating selling this rig (or at least the core components) and investing the money into ETH. The current value of all components is ~ 5k . If I were to sell the new AMD rig, I would need to use the old Intel rig for my computing tasks, so I would be sacrificing mining on the 2x 970's. Or... option 3 (possibly the best option), I could go without a PC for a few months & use my laptop to complete my computing tasks while I invest 6k in Cryptos & start mining on 2x GTX 970s at the same time. I am a web developer who needs cashflow more than a nice setup at the moment, so this might be doable. And if I need the PC I can just stop mining and reinstall windows. This will be my first time mining & I do plan on building another rig after the price of hardware goes down. I am a bit concerned it won't, & I will be forced to buy parts at this inflated price- like anyone who wants to have a setup right now. Anyway. I have been contemplating this for a few days now. After watching hours of YouTube videos of enthusiasts mining 970's, consulting my housemates, my father, WallStreetBets, Atlas Trading, & the LTT discord... I have found myself posting here. I really would like to make the most out of this situation & I know I need to act fast. Thanks guys.

okay, so, I have a plethora of custom built systems to my name thus far, between tweaks of existing systems, existing custom builds and the likes clear down to actual custom builds, and I'm at a total loss here for how to build these two systems, and would like some advice.... the problem I have here, is most of the systems I have built are built to be the best at what they are intended to do for a good budget and to be able to get out of the ballpark performance at no whim given to the energy efficiency that they will be, IE they are made to be the best performance I can get from them with not a care in the world as to the cost and consumption of electricity that they use because I didn't really care how power hungry they were given my situation, well, thats the exact polar opposite for these two systems in question and I do not even know how or where to begin on energy efficient performance parts, so, help please?? tl;dr I need two systems for two specific purposes in mind and I would like the best performance at the lowest cost of electricity given these two systems will be online 24/7 when the rest of my systems are running only adding to the energy consumed by everything all inclusive so the best performance at the lowest power consumption would be optimally desired for these two systems... system #1: a quad core AT LEAST system to be used as a pass-through firewall/av scanning system that ALL of my internet will be routed THROUGH before hitting either the outside world or the inside of my local network budget?? anything that is cost effective given I have like 0 budget to use for these two systems, so the lower the cost and the higher the electric efficiency per performance the better, I can save up long term to build this thing, but the budget is as low as can be for the highest performance per watt that I can afford, preferably anything less than 100$ is highly desired here, it will be running opnsense for an open source linux firewall os, and I can provide the hard drives and storage, but everything else I'll need, and quiet here is also HUGELY key for me. am I willing to go above 100$ if need be?? absolutely especially if the performance gains will be highly worth it, so that 100$ pricetag is a ballpark desired amount on my end, but if you can explain to me WHY it would be good to go above that, i AM NOT against going above that, but I will have to save up for doing so longer term and I would like these two systems up as soon as I can get them up, anything past quad cores is a huge plus given that this is a pass through firewall that any computational issues WILL be a HUGE speed and throughput bottleneck, IE if you all think I should do a dual socket server system for this AND its either energy efficient on the needed use or the performance gains outweigh the electrical efficiency vs the performance of a more energy efficient system then so be it and go the performance route given that my actual througput is over 8MBPs download and almost 900KBPs upload throughput system #2: I need a system that can be EASILY more low powered than system 1 given all this system will be doing is operating as a vpn intermediary router, so to speak, meaning that it will be running as a pass-through vpn connection router to route all of my local internet traffic through to my prefered vpn of choice so as to route everything through a single system and operate as if it were only a single device connecting to my vpn of choice (paranoid, and have huge hacker problems so thus the desire to build both of these systems and try and get some of the spying and hacker bullcrap off my back even to a minute degree, because hey, every little bit helps in this day in age, plus isp snooping and all that bullcrap I dont want to realy openly discuss here phaha...so yea, those two systems I need help on) so yea, any help with suggested builds for these, the vpn system also would be a prefered budget of about 100$ unless once again significant enough validation as to why to go above that is warranted in which case once again I'm not against going over that proposed budget. thanks everyone ^^

All right, I love this forum, I need some help with an upcoming build, the case is limited in size and I'm trying to conserve as much space as possible. The case dimensions are 22" (L), 17" (W), 8" (Deep). I'm sticking with the Mini-ITX platform (FM2+) and the mobo has one PCIe 3.0 slot. I am installing a Graphics Card and I am trying to find a good PCIe x16 riser cable to lay the card on it's side like in Linus' Desk Build OR as an alternative idea a right or left angle PCI angle card. I am also using a ZALMAN CNPS80F to drop space requirements. I'm at my wits end and I really want this to go smoothly and NewEgg is showing me some *interesting* results. Thank you in advanced for the help! _Seagate_

Next month, Ill be getting a Sega Dreamcast and a Nintendo Switch as a Graduation present. But thats not the important part, in time the dreamcast will be in a state where it can not be repaired, obviously. I was thinking that if and when it stopped working, i could use a mini pc motherboard that supports a 7th gen core i5, a zotac gtx 1080 ti that will be stripped down to its bare minimum, an m.2 ssd that has support for ahci, nand, or sata that has at least 500gbs of space for and speedy booting, 8gbs of ddr3 or ddr4 ram, bluetooth 4.0 or 5.0, wlan 2.4ghz, and many other things that aren't coming to mind. Does this possible build seem plausible? I got this idea from Xbox Sleeper Pc video "Linus Tech Tips" made by the way.

Hi, I was cleaning out the house last fall and I stumbled upon an old rig with a bit of a history. I bought that pc in 2008 (a low budget Acer m3970) where I upgraded some parts in an otherwise very small case (15 by 12 by 8inch) due to the factory excessive internal compartements layout. To my knowledge only the motherboard and cpu stayed the same. So a small form case would be preffered as it would have to stand in sight. My goal is to have a multifunctional tv-pc where I would: - play steam games (home stream) from my desktop pc - media center (plex) - play VR maybe? - occasional CAD from the comfort of my couch without the "burning" laptop on my legs - ... But the kicker is that I want to salvage my old graphics card as I still believe it is descent enough in these times, an Radeon R9 380 OC edition (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/asus-strix-r9-380-directcu-ii-oc-4-gb.b3439). Budget is max 500$ with the most budget to motherboard and cpu. I have technical hands and insight, so building wont be the problem. But the tech savvy computer specs deal is somewhat unknown territory for me for optimizing parts. Thanks in advance!

So i recently got this warning in pcpartpicker.com I assume this means that it limits my SATA slots. As a newbie builder i am asking if this will affect my storage options at all. I assume this warning is being cause by samsung SSD. Will it disrupt my other HDD and/or limit my SSD options in the future. It is on an ASrock Z370 Extreme4

There is a forum post asking the question about the 900D vs the Enthoo Primo: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/147988-enthoo-primo-vs-900d/ But I am wondering how to 900D compares to the Enthoo Elite for WC potential? I feel like this is more of a "fair fight".

Hi all, you may have seen this question many times but here goes: I am starting a small computer building business and I would like to know what is the cheapest/cost effective way to install WIN7 & WIN8 on multiple PCs. I have looked at WIN7 Home Premium Family Packs but are only restricted to 3 pc's only. I don't know about windows 8 and their packs. I know businesses install windows through the network but I am not sure if they use a special windows that allow multiple installations. Also any advice from people who are in a business will be helpful. Thanks! - RL
