Hello everyone! So I recently switched my cpu cooling method over to liquid cooling for my 8700k. I have a asus rog strix z370 egaming mobo. The pump has two wires one 3 pin connector and the other is a 4 pin which I assume is the rgb lighting for the pump.. now I have an AIO pump 4 pin on my mobo but no corresponding female plug from the pump. The 3 pin from the pump fits on the 4 pin connector leaving 1 pin exposed...on start up the pump fan runs...which means it's cooling...and the rgb lights are working and pump and radiator fans are synced ..but I get a cpu fan error on start up that requires me to enter bios..wondering if anyone has some helpful info. Thanks!

Hi guys, My board is ROG Strix Z370-E Gaming and just 2-3 days ago I had a CPU Fan error which prevents me from booting up. What I did was, I went to BIOS and just "IGNORED" my CPU Fan instead of it being "MONITORED". Given I don't have anything running through that port as I'm using an AIO cooler connected via CPU Fan Opt, I thought this was the only safe way of booting up. Anyway, I have 2 questions: Why did all of a sudden, I had a CPU Fan error? I never had it since and I'm running this rig for about 3-4 years now. - if more info is needed on what are the things that are connected to my PC are, just let me know and I can provide. Whenever I reboot/restart my rig I have to go back to BIOS and redo what I just did of IGNORING the CPU Fan. - Do I have to do this every single time I turn my PC on moving forward? I know my rig is kind of old and someone told me that my AIO pump which is Corsair Hydro Series H100i could be bad but I just checked on the iCue and below is what is displayed: Fan running at 1500rpm on idle and pump is at 1900rpm on idle with a temp of 36.50c Do bad pumps detect as CPU Fan error? TIA edit: might have posted in the wrong section, if I did, can some mod move this to the appropriate section? Thank you so much.

Hey I have seen similar threads, but they quite didn't my question that I have. I need some help, so I can understand what's the actual issue when it comes to that error message "CPU Fan Error!". I built my PC ~ 1 year ago and experience the same error when booting my PC -> CPU Fan Error! As a solution I disabled "CPU Fan Speed" in the BIOS and then my PC just booted normally. But I was never sure if that was the right solution, or if there needed something else to be done. To make it easier to follow, I uploaded two screenshots from the manual of the mainboard (ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero Gaming). I plugged the one cable my AIO has in the slot "AIO_PUMP) under No. 4. I guess that's the correct slot to plug the cable, am I right? I don't have any other cables to plug in, so what do I with "CHA-FAN1" bottom left from the CPU (No. 4) and "CPU_OPT" + "CPU_FAN" top right from the CPU (No. 4). For me, it was the only logical thing to leave them as they are because I don't have any cables left. It was also logical for me to plug my AIO into "AIO_PUMP". So I don't quite understand why the "CPU Fan Error!" occurs and my PC doesn't boot unless I deactivate the option "CPU Fan Speed". --- --- --- Off topic: Can I set a color for my RGB fans without using the Corsair software? I think I have maybe a defective RGB Fan Hub from Corsair which causes issues and recently even caused my CPU to overheat. After I disabled the software my CPU temps and the RPM of the fans got stable again. I uninstalled the software and don't want to have rainbow lights in my PC distracting me. Just a decent static color, of turn it off completly. --- Temps: One additional question regarding temps. You can see in my screenshot (Armoury crate), that my idle temps on the CPU are around 50°C and the CPU Package around 60°C. Isn't that a little bit high for an AIO (Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX)? I have currently 5 Corsair LL120 RGB LED fans installed in the case and I plan to add the 6th fan the next time I will make some tests on my PC, which will be after I buy a new graphics cards (RTX 4080) and I am a little bit worried that the temps then will get even higher, when the air flow might get worse with a bigger graphics card, but I know my current 1080 Ti can get up to 100°C, so a newer graphics card can maybe even help. Can I get better temps when I would undervolt my CPU with the Curve Optimizer? After updating my BIOS my changes to PBO and Curve Optimizer were resettet. I experienced issues after curve optimizing. I got regularly blue screens, when I did it manually only by a few points I think I didn't experience that issues. Now I have them both disabled to see if I will get any firther blue screens. After building the PC I ran Memtest86 and Windows Memory Diagnostic and got no issues, so I think my RAM is OK. I think my CPU might have some issues with OC/PBO/Curve Optimizing. All in all, I'm writing all of this out of my frustration after building a new PC with new components (fairly new at the time) and having problems. My old i7700K (5 year old PC) didn't stress me that much. --- --- --- My PC: - O11 Dynamic Mini, Midi-Tower, Tempered Glass - ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero Gaming (with current BIOS version) - AMD Ryzen 9 5950X - Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX - Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 64GB DDR4 3600MHz - Geforce 1080 Ti - Samsung 980 PRO 2 TB - Samsung 870 QVO 2TB - Corsair LL120 RGB LED (5-6x) - Windows 11 (since 2 weeks)

Today when I went to boot up my PC, I got the following error from my motherboard before BIOS Boot from American Megatrends: CPU Fan error! I opened up the PC, made sure there was no dust in the way, that there was all connectors properly connected and made sure one hadn't came loose, and tried to boot up again however it has the same error. I went into the ASUS BIOS (as seen in the image) and it states that there is no CPU Fan speed although when I checked my H100, the fans and radiator was working fine, pulling up cold air and when I changed the speeds, the fans would spool up. However as you can see in the image, the temperature of the CPU rises up extremely high, very fast (atleast 1 degree C a second). What could the error be? I thought it could be a fault fan header, but even then the CPU should be staying cool, so it makes me think it's a cooler issue? I currently have an Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe, an i7-3700K and a Corsair H100 cooler.

I have a h100i GTX and it shows my pump speed in corsair link but it shows 0 rpm for my radiator fans. I have both fans plugged into the water block and the USB ran on my motherboard. Then I have the waterblock connected to the cpu fan header. Both in bios and in link, it shows 0 rpm for my radiator fans. Any help? The fans are spinning but they are spinning very loud.

AMD 3700X Asus crosshair VI Hero Asus Crosshair VII Hero 16gb hyperX memory 2666mhz Corsair HX750i Stock Wraith Prism GTX 660 for testing I'm working on upgrading my system from a 1700x to a 3700x, and an asus crosshair vi hero to a vii hero. While I'm troubleshooting a memory incompatibility on the X470 crosshair, I tried to test the 3700X on my old motherboard to ensure that the CPU wasnt the issue. I've installed the stock wraith prism cooler and connected the fan cable to the CPU fan header, yet the fan will not spin more than a couple seconds at low rpm. I've gone into the bios (which is the latest one) and attempted to control the fan. It reads as NA in the monitor tab. If I connect it to the AIO pump header, the fan spins at 2800rpm. I then attempted to have the bios ignore the cput fan speed. I saved and restarted. Bam, CPU fan speed error. The ignore setting was ignored, fancy that. I tried to connect the fan back to the cpu so as to set a manual curve. I was able to make changes in Qfan control, however, it wouldn't let me apply any changes. This motherboard was previously used in a custom loop, where the ignore cpu fan speed setting was enabled successfully. This only happened after updating the BIOS, installing the 3700X, clearing CMOS, and installing the stock cooler (instead of previous monoblock). Can anyone shed some light on this issue? I searched online but everyone else said updating bios fixed it. Thanks in advance!

This is my first build, I am using an NZXT Kraken x52 for my water cooler on my Intel i7-8700k. I connected all the cables, and had the cable plugged into the CPU FAN connector on the motherboard as instructed in the NZXT Kraken installation manual. Upon starting the computer I received on the startup screen a "CPU FAN ERROR" It didn't hinder me from using the computer but it said it on the screen that appeared upon startup towards the bottom. I double checked the manual and everything plugged in in accordance to where it needed to be. The Cooler seems to be working okay, the RGB logo works, all the fans spin, and if Im not mistaken I heard the sound of water begin to circulate as I first booted up the machine. I just wanted to insure that if I continued use of this PC it would not overheat or something. If I missed any required details please don't hesitate to let me know. Thank you.

Hi, my computer was working well till April but suddenly I was getting two errors when I turn on my PC : "CPU Fan Error" and sometimes "CPU Over Temperature Error" The system didn't proceed to "Starting Windows" screen at all. It stuck at "CPU Fan Error".The red LED light of TPU on MoBo stayed turned on. In BIOS CPU temperature showed 88°C. By chance booted system successfully once and HWMonitor shows CPU temperature 98°C on idle! I asked this question to a different forum and I was told that my pump died and asked me to replace it. (Am I allowed to put that link here?) Finally after two months after end of lockdown Corsair replaced my cooler. I got new version of H60 with SATA cable attached to pump. I successfully connected my cooler and now I don't get errors: "CPU Fan Error" or "CPU Over Temperature Error" and my computer boots easily. However CPU temperature is still very high. When I check in BIOS while booting my CPU temperature shows 52-55°C and goes up to 75°C and stays stable. And when I log in my Windows and check temp with HWmonitor it shows me 70°C + on idle too. When I launched Chrome I could hear fan going loud and running super fast and temperature 98°C . Why it happen? My cooler is new. I want to mention that I didn't apply any thermal paste as paste was applied already. However I feel that it was very thin layer and while handling pump some paste was scrapped with my thumb. Is that the reason for high temperature or anything else going on? Specs: CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K GPU - Asus GTX 970 MoBo : Asus Z97-A Cooler : Corsair Hydro H60 BIOS - updated to latest version.

I just got a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and after installing it, I can’t turn on my computer. Whenever I turn it on, I see the image I have attached here. When I press F1 I get menus about system settings and whatnot. The issue is, I’ve spent the last 3-4 hours verifying everything is plugged in correctly, and I’ve even unplugged and replugged everything in my motherboard. It still says there’s a CPU Fan error. My CPU is at a temp of 56c so the fan is obviously working fine. Is there a way I can override this bios thing so I can actually use this new CPU? I’m really struggling here. Thanks to anyone who helps.

Hi, so I recently just finished a new Build, but whenever I power her up it says CPU Fan Error! and then takes me to UEFI. I select the drive to boot and Windows 10 Pro works just fine. I went into my system to check what hardware was being recognized and it recognizes my Samsung 860 1 TB SSD, but not my WD 2 TB HDD. Both are listed under Drives, but only my SSD is listed under disk....not sure if that information was detailed enough, but please help!! New build today with an i5-8600k, asus rog strix z370e gaming mobo and a cooler master hyper evo 212 which has what has to be the dumbest bracket I've ever seen to hold it down. Had some issues with the bracket that goes over the cooler, not under the mobo. However, got it in place. Note that the whole cooler did slide/swivel about a cm with the thermal paste acting as lubricant while I was trying to mess with plug. But.. this was after the error had appeared. On first boot and every boot even after windows is installed.. it goes to the asus rog boot screen showing "cpu fan error" at the bottom. I don't know if that is the issue, but windows will not load without me having to go into the bios every time and manually selecting the hdd... even AFTER rearranging the boot order of the hdd and dvd. Someone said it may be the plug.. not in the correct pins? Also said that it's not in the right mobo fan panel plug. There are two plugs next to the label "cpu fan" on the mobo.. thought I had it in the right one - the one closer to the text, but... The only thing I found online was something saying manually set the rpms to a low of 550rpm which I did and oddly enough on next boot it went right back up to max, 1950rpm. Any ideas? Need to try to fix it in the morning! Here is a link to the build log

I just built a new machine with an ASUS Rampage VII Formula board and when I had my Corsair h100i on it the board would report CPU Fan error and the cooler would never start the pump. The CPU would skyrocket into high temps and I would shut it down. No matter where I plugged the h100i to the motherboard the pump would never turn on. The h100i was plugged into a SATA power cable and I changed it to a different SATA cable and still pump wont turn on. So I pull out the h100i and put the stock cooler on the CPU. When the stock fan is plugged into the CPU_Fan header the mobo would give me a CPU fan error and the fan wouldnt spin. I plugged the stock cooler into the CPU_opt header and it still wont spin. I then plug the stock cooler into a regular case fan header and it spins the cpu fan. Of course I still get a CPU fan error on the bios but I watched the temps and they were fine since the fan is actually spinning now. So I disabled it and went ahead with installing the OS. Whats going on with the CPU_Fan header though? Is it broken? It wont turn on the stock cooler nor is it seeming to turn on the pump for the h100i. Should I RMA the board?

About 80% of the time i turn my computer on i get this bios message saying cpu fan error, press f1 to run setup (the cpu fan still spins on this screen) I can just turn the pc off&on again and ill usualy boot windows so its not a big problem but im worried what it may be. I believe its a problem with ai suite 2 fan xpert software as it started happening some time after i installed it. Atm i have the cpu fan to run at 20% at 30c, 50% at 60c, 100% at 80c. Motherboard: Asus crosshair formula z Cpu fan: Be Quiet! Dark rock 2 Im not 100% sure its fan xpert software fault but i cant think of anything else. This doesnt matter but its just weird that my pc cant detect the correct devices connected When the cpu fan error page pops up it also says usb devices connected : 0 drives, 3 keyboards 1 mouse 1 hub Drives means harddriuves? im using 2 ssd 1 hdd Keyboards i only have 1 1 mouse is correct 1 hub? i dont know what this means

Hi guys, To start of with, these are the relevant parts of the build I'm using Intel Core i5 4670K Asus Z87-A Corsair Hydro H100i So when I start my system it won't get past the BIOS loading screen because of the "CPU fan error message. The system I'm using is only a few months old. And I've had this problem RANDOMLY before, it happens about once ever 3 to 4 weeks that when I power up the system I get the fan error. Usually when I shut down the system and wait a while, start it up again everything is back to normal and my CPU snoozes at 25°C. I've done multiple stress tests (PRIME95) and nothing seems to "really" be wrong with the cooling itself. Today however after restarting the system multiple times the problem persists. I tried googling the problem and visiting my vendors product page, the problem is described here. I checked if my H100i connector is connected properly to a motherboard 3/4 pin connector and it is. A dirty fix I tried was setting the CPU fan speed monitoring on ignore. Then the system starts but using RealTemp I do find temperatures going up to 100°C at idle, which is far from normal. And yes both CPU fans on the h100i cooling rack go into full throttle. Don't really know what to do at this point.. I can't really believe anything is faulty with the cooling system itself because this "heating" problem has come and go in the past, but it just seemed like a glitch. Now I can see the temp rising in a "logical" way using realtemp when I do boot the system (It doesn't just stick to 100 I can see it go up from 50 -> 100 and then fluctuate between 90 and 100) Any advice? Or will I be forced to actually take the entire system apart and send the motherboard back..

OK, so I did everything per instructions: connected 3-pin pump cable to CPU Fan header, (2) 140 mm fans to the Molex, and USB cable to the USB port on the motherboard. During boot up, NZXT logo lights up, 140's are spinning, but I'm getting the "CPU Fan 1 Error" message from BIOS. CPU temps were initially at 69F and quickly risen to 71F within a minute. Am I doing something wrong here? What am I missing? Thoughts, suggestions?

Hey guys So I've finally built my rig and I use a NOCTUA NH-D14 to cool my AMD FX9370 on a Asus crosshair v formula z motherboard. The problem is that I my fans on the cooler don't start unless i give it a slight flick or nudge, and on start up there is a slight warning sign that says "CPU FAN ERROR" Noctua's support (http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=faqs&step=2&lng=en&products_id=34#5) says that I could just plug it into my power supply, however I would like to monitor and change the speeds of my fan(s) in my bios. So is there anything that I can do to fix this? I've also moved the fan to different headers to check if it was my motherboard's fault or the fan, but the fan still has the same problem - wont start without a nudge. What's the problem anyone have any suggestion? btw here's a pic of the cooler with the fan not moving. As you can see the large NF-P14 is spinning [as so the exhaust as well] however the NF-P12 isn't.

Hey everyone, i have been having some issues with my very first build for a good many hours now, and i don't know how to fix it. Whenever i boot up my PC, it immediately says "CPU fan error". I got some suggestions earlier, like re-seat the water block, re-apply thermal paste and to make sure it's plugged in. I did all of it, and the same problem still occurs. Both fans mounted on the radiator starts when i boot my PC up, the water block itself lights up, however my CPU temp rises insanely fast to about 75-85 degrees Celsius while on the BIOS menu, and then i shut it down. I am still wondering if the pump is actually working, and i would love it if one of you could explain how to make absolutely sure that the pump is working as intended. Any other suggestions would be really appreciated, as i am out of ideas myself. P.S The motherboard is an ASUS Z97-a
