Ok so i built this rig starting in 2020 before covid. and upgraded it all through covid, and now after she has been an amazing computer that kept me sane during lock downs and everything else. ive just started watching Linus cause i live under a rock and don't have much spare time for YouTube. but i really appreciate what I'm seeing and want to share a little bit. What is Folding@Home Folding@home is a network of volunteer computers distributed around the world that aims to perform biomedical research with the single intent of helping to further understand and develop cures for a range of diseases such as; Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's and most recently COVID19. The exact research that is done is simulating the 'folding' of proteins in the body, this is important because the function of a protein id directly related to its physical shape. And this, when the protein is created in the body it needs to reshuffle its shape to get into the correct structure to perform its task. Many illnesses can be linked to faulty proteins in the body such as many cancers and neurological issues, along with a wide number of other general health concerns. Folding@home is one of the world's fastest computing systems, over the last few months reaching a speed of around 2.5 Exaflops due to massive support taking the fight to COVID19. Currently the network sits just over the 2 Exaflop mark, Making it four times faster than the top 10 supercomputers combined. PASSKEYS! I have created a device to limit the amount of people in small spaces. I plan to sell this to small businesses at no profit. I have programmed it and designed a CAD model for the box the device is in. I need to find a good 3D printing service that ships within a week and is cheap. I have already tried shapeways, 3dhubs, and other places but those are all commercial and charge like $100. The device itself only cost less than $30 to make so the max I would spend on the enclosure would be $10. Any ideas. Also did I mention this would be made for my high school and my district when we return to ensure safety. The dimensions are roughly 184mm in length but not all of it is filled 147mm deep again not all is filled. The height is 90.2mm again not all is filled. Also the box is hollow. DVD res is making a comeback yo! TLDR : YouTube streaming has surged due to people being under quarantine during this pandemic. Google is well equipped to handle YouTube streaming strain in the past, But the current problem is the consistency at which contents needs to be provided. For the first time ever Youtube is above Netflix ranking almost 2X the Volume in streaming data. To counter the global traffic Youtube is planning to reduce the default resolution to 480 to reduce the pressure on internet infrastructure globally. The resolution limit is set for a month (30 days) globally across all platform. 30 days limit is due to the expectation that the pandemic & associated quarantine will be under control by time. Most of the current generation isn't subscribed to cable like old gen folks glued to a TV , so naturally most of the internet platforms are being relied for daily entertainment. Plus Over 43% of the global internet is consumed by Netflix, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft & Apple collectively. In Europe, video providers including Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+, are also slashing streaming quality to avoid internet congestion. Read about it in a previous thread here made by Porina >> Anyways what do you think about it , Post your comments & thoughts down below. imo i think it's a decent move. i wouldn't say a good one since it's the year 2020 & we shouldn't be at a 480p dvd res as a default at this point. that's 2009 dvd era shit. atleast 720p should be a standard. especially when they know they can handle it globally, but 480p is just reducing it furthermore for that extra safe space that isn't essential.
