Best 3TB drive with decent read and write speeds for under £100? Also what company has the lowest amount of drive failures of 3tb drives? I would like it from that company. I was looking at this one. EDIT: Added a poll. Also this will be used for a storage device, for media such as music, some steam games, videos and pictures. No operating system will be put on this drive.

Hey Linus! And other folks on these here forums, I've been watching the channel for some time now and things have changed a lot in the decade since I last built a workstation. I'm currently running a 920 @ 4.3 v1.26, 24gb, 1060, 12tbR5, SSD OS. Now that 16 core chips are ALMOST here, Its FINALLY (seriously, its almost been a decade, wtf?) time to build plan another rig that will offer enough performance boost to justify the expense of a full overhaul. So far Im exceptionally happy with the longevity of the 920 build; but being a video editor, gamer, and animator; the quick rise of 4k popularity has been hammering limits of my current workstation... and render times exceeding the "overnight" window. (though gaming even on a 1060 is great when AA is low). It seems most gamers like RGB and bling. That's cool, but I'm sure there is a market for professionals who want a powerful self built refined workstation too. Something that isnt insane in price but with some well planned tweaks as the years draw on, stands the test of time as well as the 9xx series has. I've also noticed that while you have top end system videos, and joke bottom end system videos... you have no value performance Videos... Systems that have a mix of high and mid range parts where they are needed and count in order to maximize performance per dollar. I'm aiming for serious power under 2500 CAD. I know there are many gaming rig designs easily under that price point but none meet workstation requirements of memory and storage, that I can find [half the budget is cpu-mobo & drives alone]. So I propose a challenge! I want to see what you can do with the following requirements: 16 core chip (When they come out) Workstation board; quad channel. [2011 etc] As much ram as you can without breaking the bank. Mid-range modern GPU. - for render help, gaming is a side effect. on-board Raid 5 storage solution. SSD system drive. And, the real challenge here... How small of a case can you get this all into?! - get creative! Assume peripherals already exist (monitor, keyboard, etc). Bonus points: cool and fast with low dB. Best performance per dollar wins. Test benchmark is 1hr 4k video render time vs. cost I hope you read this and am itching to see what solutions you come up with if you do!

I am looking to buy some time in near future a NAS server. I am looking at this stage at the WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra . I know making a NAS on your pc is best and cost effective, but I prefer a standalone device that is not expensive but effective for my use. I will be using it to download media stored on it to watch it before deleting on local machine and upload new media for other family members to watch and do the same. I prefer a good speed but not the best and would like to 2 have the HDD's hot swap compatible.

I need help building a powerful workstation. 1. Budget & Location I work in Kenya. I do not have a set budget. 2. Aim The company I work for needs 4 computers to render aerial photos using INPHO. The recommendations per CPU were: 16 cores (with HT) 32GB RAM 15TB HDD (to stitch the several large images) Air Cooled (as silent as possible) NVidia Quadro K2200 or better 24" monitor with color calibration 3. Monitors We intend to connect 2 monitors per PC: a simple monitor already owned (for data entry) and the larger monitor to be purchased (for image editing). We are considering having two 3D 24" monitors and two 2D 24" monitors, to make a total four monitors purchased. 4. Peripherals We intend to use already existing peripherals. If we can get Windows free with the purchase, it would be preferred. 5. Why upgrade Our current CPU's have 8 cores, and are therefore not utilizing the licence total of 16 cores. Also, it currently takes several days to stitch one set of images. Could you please point us in the right direction, with your recommendations of cost effective parts that we will not need to upgrade in the next 5-10 years?

I am trying to make a pc that is cost effective (Probably going to make 4 of them) and powerful enough to run buisness programs, compile pdfs, and other basic buisness functions. Are the parts i have picked excessive or not enough? I am pretty sure i want to stick with the monitor (Its a great deal) but what about the cpu? RAM? (probably need to add a stick)

Most likely with a GTX1070 but I want the motherboard and processor to be good enough so I can upgrade or stack graphics cards later. I love orange but it is hard to find RGB things in orange.
