I have recently disassembled my Dell XPS 15 L502X and i have disconnected the display and keyboard for repurposing. Due to this the innards are exposed and i plan on repurposing it into a HTPC but i would prefer having it in an enclosure that would be soooo much easier to work in. But I am unaware of any such enclosure or even if one exists in the first place. The reason i dont want to use the current chassis is beacause the DC power connector is loose and i don't to disassmeble the damn thing everytime it doesn't turn on. also a corner chipped off and could be a direct pathway for debris and liquid so yeah. Any help with such an enclosure would be greatly appreciated. 1 option that have thought of and turns out be a thing is 3D printing. I don't own a 3D printer and probably never will but a quick google search shows there a3D printing firms that will do the job. heck i can even askthem to the measuring for me and shit. But i'd rather not have to resort to that unless there is such an enclosure or said enclosure is too expensive.

I saw an older video of yours about running Windows on an xbox one s. So I have an old Xbox One S and I am trying to install Windows onto it, currently I have removed the HDD, formatted it and installed Windows to it, currently it won’t turn on, so i’ve either killed the power button or deleted the boot partion as well and neither is very good. My question now is how you ran installed Windows to it, I know you also replaced the motherboard but as the cheap person I am, I’m trying to find a way to install it without doing so

I have a couple of older boxes that I want to put to use (and save money). One would be an "ingest station" for assorted audio and video (copying from old tape media to digital, etc.) and one would be for backup of my main machine. The media box has a 990FX mobo, FX-8350, and the appropriate media cards. It'll run Win7 for conversion card compatibility. The planned backup box is older and has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. I have an assortment of new (or light used) SATA SSD's (250GB & 500GB), a few good 2TB HDD's and a brand new 8TB Iron Wolf drive for the backup. My main PC runs Iron Wolf pros in RAID for data drives, so the separate backup is truly Plan B (or even Plan C). I'm wondering if I should make one machine or two. The advantage would be that the backup machine could run non-Windows, but then I'd have one more machine taking up space. I only want to repurpose old parts. If I didn't, I'd just buy a Synology NAS for the backup and call it good. I'd likely run the ingest/conversion during the day and backup at night, so there wouldn't be a usage conflict if it was one machine.

After moving my old Lenovo M93p into a new PC case a few years ago, it was time to upgrade the whole thing. I had a few old Acer Veriton M4650g office PCs lying around. Then came the idea: I upgrade my old Lenovo with the hardware from the M4650g. I still had an i7 7700 at home, which is a great upgrade over the old i7 4770. The Acer motherboard is the "best" OEM motherboard I've seen in recent years: All connectors on the motherboard are non-proprietary and assembly was easier than expected. I swapped the old GPU (RX580) for an RTX2060. The PC case and the rest of the components stayed the same, only the RAM and a harddisk were upgraded. Current Hardware: CPU: Intel i7 7700 RAM: Kingston Fury Beast DDR4 Storage: 500GB Samsung 970 EVO, 1TB Kingston SATA SSD, 1TB WD Black, 1TB WD GREEN Case: Sharkoon RGBFLOW GPU: ASUS RTX 2060 Dual EVO 6GB PSU: ENERMAX MAX PRO 700W I hope you like my little project.

Hi, This may sound a bit weird and semi-bizarre but i'm hoping to start a process of VHS to DVD for my families VHS tapes. at the moment i have the Converter on the way already but i'm hoping to do a Super VHS Cassette player for the playback and was wondering, to those who may specialize in that here, if it's possible to play back VHS Tapes on a S-VHS player i know you can't do it the other way around due to the higher quality but i just want to make sure before i go and get something i won't need.

so I have a plan to convert my laptop into a desktop. the screen died a while ago so its basically a desktop already. but I want to go the whole way and make a custom case (thin stained plywood ends and bottom with cutouts for two fans, connectors and dvd drive and then glass top and sides. the motherboard would sit in the center for max cooling and awesomeness). I would like to put two fans into it so I am going to try something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Okgear-100-240v-Power-Supply-Connector/dp/B015HV59FW/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1489295134&sr=1-2-fkmr0&keywords=110V-240V+AC+to+12V+molex to https://www.amazon.ca/Phobya-Adapter-4Pin-Molex-30cm/dp/B004X2XBMA/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1427614128&sr=1-3&keywords=molex to 4pin fan&tag=tomshardware_forum_ca_vgl-20 to https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA50M2EM2392&cm_re=pwm_fan_controller-_-9SIA50M2EM2392-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-VigLink2-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=8167372&SID=j067pkbqd5000a1700053 is this going to work? I don't see why I would not. I looked up a few conversions and nothing was quite this extreme, but I don't see why it could not be. its a high end laptop (toshiba satellite p70-a with upgraded ram [32GB] and a HDD-SSD setup) so I don't feel like I am wasting money by converting it.

Hey, is there any way to merge video files with subs easily? As in merging MP4 files with SRT files? I know there is handbrake, and i've been using it, but not only is it a little slow, but i have to do each video manually, which ends up being tedious with a lot of files to go.

I have an 2013 HP Envy 17 and I believe it could do a little better and last me a couple more years if I transplanted it from the red hot HP plastic case into a well ventilated Mini ITX case such as this. I'm not expecting to save the onboard screen. Can it be done? What are some challenges I might face, such as fitting and adapting components? Maybe someone has done this before.

Hey guys, So I decided to convert my laptop into a desktop (the screen died on the laptop so its used as a desktop anyway). its a fairly high powered laptop (i7 4700MQ and a slightly wimpy Gforce 740m). the plan is to mount the motherboard in a custom wood and glass case I am making and put some LED strips and a fan controller with two fans that are wall powered. so my question is will this: https://www.amazon.ca/Okgear-100-240v-Power-Supply-Connector/dp/B015HV59FW/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1489295134&sr=1-2-fkmr0&keywords=110V-240V+AC+to+12V+molex plug into this: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16811992007 if not, do you have any recommendations on how to power two fans? I am not to worried if the fan controller works for more than two, I can use it in later builds. I have not idea if my motherboard has a three pin or four pin connector on it for its heat-sink fan, or how much power that connector would supply if it was a three/four pin.

So I backed up all my school files to Google Drive from Notability on my school issued iPad. However, it saved them as .note files instead of PDFs so that I could open and edit them in Notability again. My school iPad has been taken because it's the end of the year, and I need access to some of the .note files to study for finals. How would I go about converting/opening them? I tried FileViewPro, but I had to pay to open .note files. Please help!

So, at work, we just found out that a software we use to manage our databases will be making some major changes in the next year. One major change is how we upload raw data to the database. Currently, we can upload text (tab delimited) files and/or .csv and everything works fine, but they are changing it to only accept .xml files. It won't be a big deal to start creating them as these files, the problem is that we now need to convert years worth of raw data into xml format. Is there terminal based tool (or anything else in Linux) that can handle the conversion?

Hi, so I'm working on a bash script to convert several .txt files in a directory into .xml. I found it was pretty tricky to accomplish that directly so i attempted .txt to .html then .html to .xml and it worked perfectly. Now, I'm still kinda new to the world of bash scripts and was wondering how I might be able to accomplish some things. The first thing is, how do i set a variable equal to the number of .txt files in a directory. Second, well, here's my pseudo code... x = [number of .txt files in directory] for i in range (x): txt2html [file number i].txt -o [file of same name].html for i in range (x): tidy -q -asxml [file number i].html >[file of same name].xml rm *.html yea, i'm not exactly sure how to do for loops, or how to convert the files in a sequence and have the output file have the same name as the original, just in a new format. Any help is appreciated!

I've been playing around in the ek configurator after reading the pinned 'Watercooling 101' post. After looking around at different forum posts I figured I'd go with the EK-Supremacy EVO (Copper Acetal version). I was wondering: If I were to use 1/2" ID tubing, what kind of fittings should I run off the CPU block to the tubes? There are many options in the configurator, and I just don't know what to choose. HD? HDC? ACF? How can I tell which size accommodates my tubing? Thanks in advance.

Greetings everyone, Recently a group of my friends and I purchased two older model Xeon CPU's, the x5450, which run on a socket 771 motherboard. We were wondering if it would be more beneficial to use the required MOBO, or mod a 775 MOBO, which I've observed is a very simple process. Thank you for your input!

Hi all! So since my phone has gotten the LCD+digitalizer fixed TWO times in a row and the back one time and today those died (RIP, Lasted a week. Press Alt+F4 to pay respects) for more info check the thread delete this unless is somewhat useful. I am looking to make one of these: Stick the mainboard to my desktop and improve cooling by installing it close to the exhaust fan or make a laptop out of it or install a custom OS similar to retropie (I do not want to keep android if I want to use it as an emulator). Thanks in advance.

I was trying to play Diamonds are Forever through my Plex server on my TV, however I had to constantly wait for buffering as it wouldn't allow me to select the original quality, only a convert. It's about a 4GB MKV 1080p clip with 5.1 audio. This is what gets me confused. I also have Spectre, as a 12GB MKV 1080p with 5.1 audio, yet it barely buffers at all, as it allows me to play the original quality without converting. So how can I fix d.a.f so that it can play original?

Hey folks I am in the process of converting my media library to HEVC in the idea of saving some space ( correct me if wrong pls ) Say I have a 2 Mbps bitrate h264 encoded video file. I am to convert it to a HEVC format with Wondershare Video Converter. Should I stick with 2 Mbps HEVC to retain clarity or Should I choose 1 Mbps because I heard HEVC occupies half the space compared to h264. In other words Consider h264 bitrate to be a variable { x } What bitrate should h265 be to retain same detail as the original h264 video ??

Hello all, I recently aquired a Asus VE245H monitor, but sadly the backlights are going out on it. Upon teardown I noticed one CCFL was busted (Don't know if this was my doing) but the other works, or so I think. When turned on, the lamp lights up about halfway down the tube and then cuts off, sometimes doing this twice. Main question is, I'm looking at doing a LED conversion, but the kits I see online are outfitted for use with separate inverters, and seeing how on this monitor the outputs for the CCFL lamps are coming straight from the power supply board, how would I set it up? Could the output for the CCFLs be bad as well, causing the LEDs to not work? Im looking at something similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/322115004135?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT And in the description it tells, in very broken english, how to hook into a onboard inverter... But I dont understand what I need to do. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I need a video conversion folder. Eg, a folder i can put any video in, and my pc will automatically begin to convert to h264 mp4. I have access to the full adobe suit. I know linus has a dedicated server for this, so this should be doable in a small scale. I am really tired of using online converters all the time.

How to capture Mini DV Firewire footage in 2020?
Drexo posted a topic in Photography and Videography
Hi. I think the title says it all. I have a COUPLE of TRUCKLOADS of footage on MiniDV tape I need to capture and save, I don’t even want to think about what is waiting for me on VHS. It’s all home video from family trips that I never had the chance to edit but now I waited too long and the damn Firewire 400 port has gone obsolete. What is my best way to capture this footage in 2020? I can’t find anything around. Seems like it cannot be converted to USB since Firewire works through streaming while USB works with packets of data, so what am I left with? Thunderbolt 3? Lastly I was thinking I had to resume my brother’s or my mom’s old Macbook Pro and white Macbook, capture all and transfer it to a hard drive but I really hope there is a more efficient way of doing this since those dinosaurs must be slow AF. Thanks.- 19 replies
