When I'm logged in to my email, I don't want applications to take contacts from this email and recommend them to me in the application itself. When I go to Facebook, for example, and this app sees all the contacts from my email, and it keeps showing me people you might know. It used to be possible to disable contact syncing in the settings. Great idea for a video on taking back control of my data or securing my data. very much up LTT street. Okay I screwed up and my outlook account was hacked and while i got my money back i lost pretty much everything else. all my files including photos of my dead son. I lost not only my emails but also the email address's as well (thank god its not a work email, *shudder* my contacts and my calendar oh and my uni work(though i have no use for it now it still sucks) I managed to rescue some stuff as some of it was on different drives around my machines. anyway to the thing i need help on I have been bitten and now i want to control my data as best as possible. I want to house or at least have a downloaded copy of all my essentials. Here is a list of things I want to house on my home server i'm building with either an online copy or constant access to it. I prefer the idea that the main Information is housed on my server and there is a copy online which I can access anywhere. that way if something happens at home then i got a copy on something like google and a backup on my file storage. basicly i want 3 copies of all my information, Home, website and online backup. (eventually i intend to have a 4th copy in an offsite backup location like my parents house) Currently the list of important things I need help with are Email Access/storage: (also like the idea of emails coming dirrect to me instead of online service but I fear things like power cuts would make that less a good idea) Currently my domain is with godaddy and my hosting is with hostpapa and i can download a backup copy of my emails from there. I have my emails downloaded to thunderbird app. This gives me 2 copies and i can arrange to manualy download it for backup purposes. Is there a better solution? Contacts: Since I lost my contacts its been hard to function and i'm currently using the contacts CardDav that part of my hostpapa email. It currently downloads to thunderbird but I cant find a program thats free on android for my phone so I need a better solution. again i want to access my contacts on my pc, phone and have my normal backups. Calendar: well loosing my calendar data actually cost me money I missed out on so many appointments and software renewals that is not a joke. I'm currently using my wife's callendar but my email hostpapa also has CalDav which is supposed to be a calendar server i can access anywhere, except i only got it working on thunderbird. Tasks: I don't use tasks as much as I want simply because i have had so many problems accessing them on different devices quickly. as you may have noticed i user thunderbird alot and i love the app on my pc and steam deck(main portable device, I use the desktop mode primarily and it works great) however they are still working on a mobile app and have joined with another app developer but its going to be time before its all sorted. so please help me secure my data and files. I currently use a file storage site called Currys Cloud Backup. I think they use livedrive as there software (not sure) anyway i like the cost and the speed is okay, just wish it had a linux program. so to reiterate I need software that works on android, windows/linus(mac too for anyone else) a website backup like google/outlook (though out of principle i refuse to let micrososft have any more data of mine cause of the way they screwed me over) and server software for the server i'm building. (I havent decided what OS I'm going to use on the server yet, hell I'm not even sure if its going to be a raspberri pi or an old pc yet.) anyway any and all help would be greatly appreciated Kuzon

I have a Nokia G21 running stock Android 11. I need to export all contacts in VCard or .vcf file version 3. Currently it only exports in version 2.1. How do I export all contacts to VCard version 3? Or, how do I convert existing VCard 2.1 file to version 3?

Hello Everyone, A few days ago I've swapped my other Android Phone for a used Pixel 2 (64GB) with Andoird 10 and installed the latest Updates (Android 10, Build Number QQ2A.200405.005) Security Patches (5. April 2020) and Google Play-Systemupdate (1. March 2020). Today I've figured out that Google (Account via Browser) had all my contacts, which was odd as I've always kept an focus on sharing as least as possible data to protect privacy. So I went to System > Accounts and made sure that automatic sysc is disabled and tried to disable sync for System > Accounts > my.google.account > Account sync > Contacts which provides no option to disable it anymore. It seems that they have removed or moved it. After looking through the entire Android Settings I've discovered under Settings > Google > Account Services > Contacts sync two Options - Automatically sync Google contacts and Back up & sync device contacts - to disable. Currently I'm testing if this will stop syncing my contacts to Google. There is also an stackexchange discussion regarding this. I would be interested if anyone else had a similar issue like me? Was this publicly announced and were you guys aware of that? Is there any reason to move this option which I do not get? All the best, JB

I dropped my phone and the screen stopped working, I'm hoping I'll be able to transfer my contacts from my old galaxy Nexus phone to my new phone. Internally my Nexus works fine (it's recognised as a device when I plug it into my PC) but all I can find online is how to recover my data if I have USB debugging enable. My nexus doesn't have a password if that helps. I hope someone knows a solution.

Ok I have a stupid problem on my Samsung GS6; I have two contacts (different people) with the same name, one personal and one professional. Of course the phone has merged their contact information into a single person. Is there a way for me to un-merge the contacts? When I go to edit the contact, it even shows them as two different people (different job titles/companies etc), but I can't see a way to unmerge them. Please help! Thanks EDIT: DISREGARD, OP IS A FOOL AND FIGURED IT OUT. Sorry for being an idiot. I'll hang my head in shame for the day.

So me and my mom both have Samsung phones and Samsung has their own proprietary ecosystem and this requires a Samsung account so both phones use my account. The problem is I have my mom's contacts on my phone and when I delete them it gets deleted on her phone as well and I have to restore those contacts from Google contacts. And the problem starts all over again. Any1 got a solution to this

I don't think this needs to be said, but i'll say it anyway: its an iPhone. The contacts aren't unselected... so where did they go? Why did they just disappear? How can this happen? LMK, THX!

I have a family member that uses Facebook messenger and about 2 weeks ago all her messenger contacts on Facebook, phone, and messanger.com have disappeared. The active ppl on the right has also disappeared. Any help greatly appreciated as I don't use Facebook at all.

Is there any easy way to convert a jumble of contacts into a spreadsheet? e.g. this format is in a word document "Fname Lname (asdiofn@gmail.com)" <asdiofn@gmail.com>, "Name Name (sdiosdon@hotmail.com)" <sdiosdon@hotmail.com>, Name <isddvcn32@sdi.com>, And then copy that into a spreadsheet with separate columns for First Name | Last Name | Email Is there any easy way to do this?

On Friday I turned on my phone and it got stuck in a boot loop. It boots into the optimizing apps screen then shuts off and on again. I googled it and LG made an announcement that some of their phones are deffective, and unfortunately, mine was one of those phones. My g4 was rooted, but that's not why it's in the bootloop because it's been rooted for about 7 months. Is there a way to get the phone into a recovery mode to get my data off of it? my other idea, though adventurous, was to desolder the NAND chip and then just replace the NAND on my new phone with the old one, because the storage and OS isn't the issue causing the bootloop, LG says it was a "connection" which is very specific :). I got another idea while looking up the issue online. There is a way to read from NAND chips if you solder the points to a breakout board using a method called "drag soldering" and then connect the board to a smartmedia reader, but I need to research this option more. Any ideas?

I got a Nexus 5X for Christmas, but when I put my sim card in none of my contacts were showing up. I have the option to import them, but I assume that means they'll be stored on the phone and I want them to be stored on the sim card so that I'll have them if I get a new phone. What can I do?

The contacts on my dad's iPhone 6 just vanished all of a sudden earlier today. I checked on his cloud and they're gone from there too. When I connected to iTunes it said there was a backup from yesterday that I could restore from but when I clicked on it, a window popped up saying I had to turn off Find my iPhone, which I did, but after doing so clicking on restore backup wasn't doing anything so I restarted iTunes, however when I got back the button for restore backup was faded out (couldn't click on it). Oh and he didn't have an OS update. He's still running iOS 8.0. Help plz!!! EDIT: Possible solution - if I could get the contacts from my dad's old 4s to sync across. This'll get around 90% of the contacts back. Problem is - for whatever reason I get a verification error whenever the 4s tries to connect to the iCloud and I don't know where the contacts sync to on Windows when doing a contact sync on iTunes (I don't use iOS myself and after this ordeal will never consider it). So a solution to either the verification error or an explanation on how to go about syncing the contacts through iTunes would be a possible workaround.
