Not the first thing id really want to post on here but i want to warn people about the Cartridge reader that Save the Hero builders do. I bought the device and got it in the mail several days ago. I used a standard phone cable as I didn't pay for the magnet cable as i didn't think i would need it (Boy was I wrong apparently). Power it on and it worked, great! I was happy. So I turned it off and pulled the cable gently cause it was a little stiff going in and it just snaps clean off. Immediately I contact their customer service and as you can see in the image with a email. (I blurred my name.) In Response which was pretty damn quick so points to them they say that there is no warranty for this type of issue unless you buy the magnetic cable from them and they will repair it for a price which you can see is in another image. Including shipping leads to around £48 (or 59.83USD or 80.80CAD) not including Tax or import fees I'm assuming. I've a few issues here: 1st issue being that the power port was so weak that it took one gentle pull for it to be unusable, not to mention they already had another power port on the device they had before and didn't bother to remove it. it looks like it was barely soldered on properly. 2nd issue here is that as you can see in the email attached that there is a repair service option, also noticable is that in the email the pictures sent have busted usb ports as well. This is already a known issue and yet they have not taken steps to rectify this in future builds, like its almost going to be a recurring thing for customers to have to pay for the repair service one way or another. As you can also see in the image for pricing that is £48. 3rd issue is the warranty. They say that there is no warranty on the device UNLESS you buy the magnetic usb cable. The problem here is that on the option to buy the item there is no option to buy it. You have to go onto a separate page to buy it. They should have included it in the main page or just add an extra couple of £'s and included it anyway. Saving people from having to worry and SAVING their warranty. In conclusion, Please be careful when buying this product and learn from my mistakes. £190 for the items i bought including shipping £50 extra for import tax Money (not) well spent.

Since every week we see more bad things from big brands, may it be anti-repair things, privacy violation, replace components during production, etc. Why not make a website/database where people can list all the bad things a brand has done? (with a good source, ofc). Good things would also be listed. For me, when shopping things that are all basically the same, the brand becomes an important factor: "Do they actually care about customers?" "Are they using slave labour?" "Has a sister company done something bad?". A ranking/list would help a lot to choose. I don't know if I can get my idea through. It can be just a list, a wikipedia-like website or a website that looks like a shopping platform but when you filter by "Vacuum Cleaners", only the brands with their profile show up.

So, we just talked with Seagate tech support, and the company's new policy is that they no longer provide the RPM speed of any of their consumer grade (Barracuda) drives. There is no information in the technical documents on their website, and tech support will not give any such information out, because even to them it doesn't exist. According to the tech, they claim it's based on platter density and controller speed, and that RPM isn't important anymore. I don't have a link to this information, as we discovered it by calling Seagate directly. We were forced to do so, after checking on a 4TB Seagate drive and realizing that we couldn't find any relevant data on the RPM speed. Some sites were reporting 7200RPM, some were reporting 5900RPM and others had no information listed at all. Any thoughts on this? I'm not a fan of this policy, whatsoever (then again, I've never been a big fan of Seagate).

I like where this is going. I think that since going completely digital and because of the uptake of subscription based model on the net we really need to find good legislature that will help with our consumer rights. Honestly. I'm a maniac like that and would like to see subscriptions (In EU where I live) to be tied to a standard of the place you live in. Not to mention a need to crackdown on different content scope of services like Netflix in US and EU in different countries where we consumers have to pay for a much smaller content library and for a couple of time worse standard the same price as US customers for example. One cool think that is coming in EU is a legislation that any service provider in EU will have to provide it's services to ALL country members. So basically remove geo-blocking inside EU also for the web based services. (I know this is boring for most of you, but I live in a small country called Croatia and would like not to have the need to fire up my VPN to get the same content and/or services as someone else). Quote from the original article: Original article: https://wccftech.com/steam-resell-games-french-court/ And expanded on the possible influence on other stuff like re-selling apps on iOS, Android stores, e-books on Kindle. Probably having an option for cross-polinating because if I own a game on one store I should be able to transfer it like domains. As mentioned earlier. These things take time. May, or may not happen but I'm hopeful. I think it's time to take some of our rights back. (like right to repair for the US folks also etc.) https://wccftech.com/digital-content-sellers-like-amazon-apple-at-risk-of-french-court-ruling/

I want to know is it possible to use Seagate Ironwolf Pro over Barracuda Pro since of the price different. Ironwolf pro is much cheaper than Barracuda Pro. I want to know would there be any loss or issue I might run into if I use it for video editing. Would I suffer data loss or data transfer not fast enough. If possible does the Pro out weight the Con. *I chose Seagate over WD cause Seagate would honor their warranty unlike WD with their excuse of "oh this is an OEM and we don't fix them". Amazon, newegg. bestbuy, B&H and even WD website all sell OEM the only place that sell retail is Microcenter. (I know cause i did deep research with WD model number and found many store just sell OEM). ** I know Backblaze report that seagate has higher failure rate but I rather chose someone with their service if thing goes bad. Here a picture of pcpartpicker on Seagate pro Drive shorted by price.

help ROG STRIX SCAR II or ROG Zephyrus S
dAmnation69 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi guys , I hope that someone can help me out. I am confused between the two options ROG STRIX SCAR II ROG ZEPHYRUS S SLIM On paper they have the same specs. I went online to figure out some the differences between them, most of which consisted of thermal issues and screen bleed. If anyone has experience with any of these system can I get an advice for which one to get? Thanks in advance. -
Hi there everyone! I currently have a gaming laptop ( Lenovo y520 with gtx 1060 3gb VRAM 16 GB ram and i7 7700HQ) atm and use it for some school but mostly it sits on my desk at home plugged in. It plays games really well and also runs programs like visual studio great so it fits perfectly for my day to day life! However, the battery life is atrocious! Like I am lucky if I get at least 2 hours of SOT when unplugged and this can be really annoying when I am out and about. So, I was wondering if buying an ultrabook, maybe around the 900-1000 dollar range would be a good idea, and then I can leave my gaming laptop at home and my gaming laptop as a desktop. One with good battery life, a decent quad-core CPU and 8 GB of ram at LEAST would be good! I understand that the pricing is pretty crazy so I really need to know if my logic is flawed or if I'm being irrational. I am new here so I am hoping that I can get more familiar with the forums

I've been looking at these monitors and it seems that the only difference between them is that one is for consumer use and one is for business use. They are priced very differently though, with the 38UC99-W being roughly $1,150 USD and the 38CB99-W about $800. Is anyone aware of any differences between these monitors?

Full story: https://www.polygon.com/2018/8/11/17661254/bethesda-sell-used-games-amazon-block In what could be described as a massive overreach - Bethesda is sending take-down notices to vendors re-selling Bethesda products on places like Amazon and eBay If left unchallenged, this could impact the scope of the 'First Sale Doctrine' in the United States, which offers legal protection for re-selling goods. The action in question The seller's reason for the listing Bethesda's letter and the seller's response Bethesda's justification - specifically pointing to the lack of warranty determines that the product is 'materially different' from the 'genuine product' (A legal benchmark for the first sale doctrine). So my 27 Inch, 60Hz IPS 1080p monitor has served me well for the last 2 years. Yet I always had the desire to experience the glory of 144Hz, and since I play literally only Counter-Strike for years now, it's time.. Yet through out the years the monitors have evolved reaching new ground with 180 and even 240Hz. I'd like to hear from you guys whether you think there is a huge difference, I'am willing to sell my IPS monitor so I will have to live with a TN panel yet that's not an issue. I watched some videos about it but it takes me minutes to figure out different opinions per video, so I rather hear it from you guys who are more experienced than me. (Due to the late time in Germany I will both read and respond tommorow, share your opinons! =] )

Hello there, people interested in servers probably have heard of KVM / iKVM / IPMI modules. These are network attached remote control modules, which can be used to administer a server (or workstation). An example can be found here. I would really love to have something like that on my consumer Asus motherboard. I can't seem to find any reliable information regarding IPMI chips on consumer boards. There are workstation oriented boards supporting these, but they are to expensive. These KVM modules should be featured in a LTT video imo.

Dear community, Two weeks ago I bought myself a asus rog strix gl702vi-gc059t gaming laptop at Mediamarkt NL. We have this lovely week where they take 21% of all the prices (yes, much like Black Friday). I was already searching for a new gaming laptop before this week started. With a budget of 2200 euro, the asus regular price was to expensive for my taste. So when the price dropped from 2600 euro to around 2150 I compared it again to other laptops. It seemed like Mediamarkt's offer wasn't half bad. mediamarkt advertised with the following specs: Intel Core i7-7700HQ, Intel Mobile HM175 geforce gtx 1080, 16gb Ram, 256GB M2 1TB HDD 120 HZ screen with G-sync So it seemed like a good package for the price. Somewhere withing that week I bought the laptop. It worked like a charm. A day after receiving the laptop I found myself wandering through the Nvidia control-panel. This was where I first noticed that the screen is not a 120 Hz but a 75 Hz screen.. So I contacted Mediamarkt and told them that they gave me a 75 Hz model instead of the 120 Hz model. Mediamarkt offered there sincere apology and said that I could get a refund if I want. My reaction to this message was that I would love the same laptop, with a 120 Hz screen instead of the 75 Hz. Mediamarkt said that that it is not possible to get an other asus rog strix gl702, but they would send me a gl503 if I'd like.... What a terrible joke. I explained them how there is a 1000 euro price difference between the two laptops and that it would not solve my problem. After a lot of wasted time I received two options. Keep the laptop and get 120 euro for the trouble, or return it and get your 2150 euro back, with a 50 euro giftcard. They also took the asus gl702 from their website like it doesn't exist. So I'm stuck with the question, what should I do? Should I take the 120 euro ( which will not fix my Hz problem, but could be used to buy a screen) or should I return it and buy an other laptop? Or keep complaining until they come with a appropriate fix for my problem? Anyway, thanks in advance for your opinions people!

So I've watched linus tech tips for a while now and he has stated that last-gen server grade hardware is nearly as good as the newest generation of consumer hardware. Questions 1) is Thye above statement true? (yes, I meant to use thye ) 2) Is there a good website to compare server and consumer hardware against each other? 2a) Is there a good website for comparing all computer hardware? Thanks You, TheGodlyJorts

Hey guys, so I'm the broke college kid that's been posting around the forums lately. I am in the process of trying to piece together a computer to make a NAS server. I'm looking to build from the ground up, because I've come to realize going with any prebuilt is going to severely limit the amount of drives I can have connected to the computer at any given point (that goes for upgrade paths too). So, is there a consumer motherboard that you guys'd recommend that has anywhere from 2-6 sata ports on it? I'm looking to have a three drive array in raid 1. If the sata ports aren't a huge deal could you guys point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Hi guys, I have a few questions around server hardware and this is the first place I thought to use to find out (after Google of course), if any of you are able to help. I purchased a few server items off of eBay so I could start learning about them, but I am wondering what consumer applications these could have? For instance, reusing hardware, other applications etc. I got 2 Dell Poweredge servers (both Xeon, can obtain specs but fairly old now) 2 EMC hard drive arrays 1 UPS All in rackmount cases, of which I have no rack (and no space for a rack might I add!). I just want to know if there is anything that can be done with this all? Thanks guys, Sam

could someone tell me what kinds of security risks I have as a consumer (i.e. a person normal person who games and does regular computing activities on his at home network) faces in regards to browsing the internet, the computer system overall, and home network? Then, could someone explain ways to minimize risk of damage or privacy invasion? I come asking this question because there are so many programs, articles, and people all telling me different things about my digital security, but I cannot seem to find a full comprehensive guide or anything that explains all the risks i face and what kind of products i should look for as a regular consumer and not as a company or firm where you the systems are a lot more complicated.

So I`m going to college this fall for digital media and IT. There is going to be web design more than anything, but there is also going to be courses in 3D modeling and software development/game design, and so I`m in the market for a new laptop that can handle all these tasks with ease, as well as able to run games. for gaming, I`m not looking for anything spectacular, just something that will run most games on medium settings. I`m am on a pretty tight budget however and am not looking to spend more than $1200. For specs, I want 13-14 inches, minimum 8 gigs of RAM, 1 TB HD, mid-high range graphics, AMD A series or Intel I5 - I7 CPU at least 8 hours of battery life and runs Windows 10 (or windows 7 or 8, I could always upgrade it myself). I`m not a brand fanboy, but I`m used to using Windows so I would like to stick with Windows. I`m not too aware of what`s out on the market at the moment. if you guys could help me by showing me what`s out there within my budget that would be awesome. Thank you very much!

Hey, dunno if this is the right thread to post this but it seemed the closest to what I require. I am planning on moving my PC to my spare room to give me more space in my bedroom and reduce the noise levels when I'm gaming. I have been looking at consumer grade KVM units which outputs HDMI (1080p scrub because I can't afford a 4k monitor

A couple of months ago, I build my dad a new PC. Everything was fine, but then yesterday... Last evening, my dad was on his PC. After awhile, he decided to take a 15 min. break. When he came back, it refused to connect to the internet through the same LAN port that worked just fine 15 mins. before. I checked through the BIOS, and went to "Board Explorer". Even the BIOS are unable to detect a cable. The specs: Intel Pentium G3258 MSI Z97 PC MATE Crucial Ballstix Sport (8GB) MSI GT 710 Corsair CX600M So, here's what I've tried: "Plugging it out and in again" Using the same cable on a different PC Switching cables Updating drivers Resetting the router Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them Wiggling the cable around Any ideas are welcome, and thanks in advance!

Lets file this under: No duh. Apple customer service is to retail sales what Amazon customer service is to online sales. The two really work in a realm of their own and when it comes to computer hardware support (hardware and software support in general), you'll be hard pressed to find a retailer who does it better or even seems to give it the attention it deserves. Its a comfort that if something should go wrong on my phone or laptop, I can just walk 5 minutes to the Apple Store and get the help I need. On my desktop? Umm...well...the tech support is only as good as my Google skills or my patience, that and however much my local shops charge me. Not exactly a customer friendly approach. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2015/05/computer-tech-support/index.htm http://9to5mac.com/2015/05/29/consumer-reports-survey-apple-tech-support/
