  1. Hello Everyone, Does the ASUS PRIME B450 PLUS M.2 slot B, support a M.2 M drive
  2. So I am building a pc and I´m wondering I am trying to aim for 1080p high details and occasionally some PS/Premier work . Card I was originally going for was EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1660 SUPER SC ULTRA BLACK GAMING - 228€ seemed like a good price , but then i found out that delivery time is 99 days (out of stock) .I need PC now obviously ,so that is not going to make it for me. The closest 1660Super was MSI 1660 SUPER Gaming -250€. I was like it s not worth it ,I found EVGA 1660 Ti for 239€,(I got more confused than i was ), but im thinking now about 1650 Super - 180€ with Crucial MX SSD for 75€ since my build doesn´t have SSD just HDD. If you have some suggestions for parts / cuts that i can make let me know (help me) . PC parts that I d like to have : Ryzen 5 2600 107€ Kingston HyperX Fury 2x8 (3000Mhz) 74€ GIGABYTE B450 Aourus Elite EVGA 650W 80+Gold 72€ Seagate Barracuda 2TB 58€ NZXT H510 68€
  3. Hello, I am writing out of confusion. About 2 weeks ago, after having many BSODs, I decided to test each of my ram sticks with memtest86. One of the ram had hundreds of errors and so I decided to return it for a replacement as that meant it was broken. After a frickin week of waiting for it to arrive at it's destination, another 5 days pass and voila it's today. The store's technician who is checking the ram to verify that it is broken calls me and tells me that they have found no problems, keep in mind they used memtest86 as that's what I told them to use. That's impossible, I say because I did find errors. But he told me that they tested them together, which didn't make any sense because I also tested them together and found problems, now that I'm writing it I wonder if they he tested them in single channel, idk if that will make a difference but I am just wondering, so I told him to check each one alone and he said he would do that. Anyways, out of fear that I spent 2 weeks in my old slow laptop for nothing, I searched what happens if I have a bad dimm slot. None of the "symptoms" applied to my case. I am just wondering if they are scamming me or I am wrong.
  4. Hello, Recently after moving cross country (the US that is) I went and tried to boot my trust gaming rig discovered it wouldn't boot into windows! So I did some tinkering around and determined that one of my two NVMe SSD's was dead, the one with windows on it! While I keep a offsite copy of important documents I would like to recover my Witcher 3 save files. So insert more tinkering around and voila! The BIOS recognizes the Windows Installation Manager installed on the supposedly dead drive, so I boot from it and get to a windows error screen stating that it couldn't connect to some device and giving me the error code "0xc000000e". After doing some research on the interwebs I tried a few things, I plugged in a windows installation media I had laying around (it is a Windows 10 Home edition media, whereas I have Windows 10 Pro installed on my PC, does that matter?) Then when launching into the recovery media I did a few things, first used the built in windows repair tool... no luck. Secondly, I went into the command prompt and launched DISKPART to see if the drive is recognized and healthy according to DISKPART and it is! So I follow the advice of some random websites and run the following commands in this order (after exiting diskpart) bootrec/scanos bootrec/fixmbr bootrec/fixboot bootrec/rebuildbcd Well a few issues arouse while doing that. First, 'bootrec/scanos' did not find an install of Windows 10. Secondly, when I ran 'fixboot' it replied 'access is denied' Finally, 'rebuildbcd' as you might have guessed, did not find an install of Windows 10. On the upside, 'fixmbr' theoretically did something. If someone could explain what is going on I would happily buy them one copy of whatever regularly priced game on steam that they want! My poor Witcher 3 saves...
  5. So yesterday I went into my Bios to check that my overclock settings were all correct as i noticed my Asrock settings stated that one of my setting were different to my bios settings but when i went into the bios it had indeed changed so i changed it back my cpu is a 8700k clocked at 4.9ghz with cache ratio set to 4.9 but it was on auto so i set it back but then when i booted into windows the cpu kept running at 800mhz so i set it to default then it ran at normal 4.4ghz then i tried to set my overclock profile back in the bios but then it ran at 800mhz so i reset it to default and it ran at 4.4 again then I flashed the bios and it seemed to work for the overclock but then when I set the voltage from auto to 1.25 and booted it ran at 800mhz so then i tried one of the preset overclocks in the bios and it worked when booting into windows but i do not use the preset as the voltage for 4.7 is at 1.36 and i run at 4.9 with 1.26 so its too hot for my comfort but then i tried my overclock i got the same result as before with it being stuck at 800mhz then i reset to default and it was fine then i tried my overclock again and got the same result but after many attempts of restarting and reapplying my overclock it just randomly started working again and its now back at 4.9 with cache at 4.9 o. 1.25v but im not sure what was causing my issue has anyone else experienced this or know what might have been causing it ?
  6. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-C32H711-32-Inch-Curved-Monitor/dp/B06XT5BL3M/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1530635541&sr=1-6&keywords=uh750&th=1 Thats the monitor I want to buy. It is advertised as QLED, but scroll down and you'll see it has a VA panel, and according to my research, it is LCD technology. Can someone clear up this mess? Also what hertz is it?
  7. Hello, LTT Community! I am currently looking to upgrade my prebuilt pc mainly because I can't really afford to build one form scratch so please don't suggest that I do that. The current pc is a Gateway DX4860 with a GTX 950 and a 510w Insignia power supply from Best Buy. The parts that I am looking to buy to upgrade it are SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-75E250B/AM Intel Core i7-4820K 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor - 10 MB - LGA2011 Socket - OEM G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 Power Supply - 80 PLUS Gold - 850W Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard I just wanted to know if there are any issues with compatibility, old hardware, etc... If there is any way that I can make the upgrades even cheaper please let me know. Also, if I install the new motherboard, will that cause any issues (I don't mind re-installing Windows) Thank You
  8. Have not really been posting here much, but the latest honest answers video kind of made me decide to write this. To me LTT has been the main source of general information about anything tech. Not disregarding other tech-channel, but I do think LTT has gone far from the old days. But the topic I want to talk about is the confusion that a viewer experiences whilst watching the videos about tech-related stuff, more specificly; videos about a new CPU/GPU or other PC component and posting results or comparisons between said components. Now I am glad that bitwit actually went ahead and explained the 1% and 0.1% benchmarking. ( LINK ) That's actually really nice general information if someone decides to change the way they bechmark something. But, it doesn't fix anything about a video such a this from being a confusing cluster of madness. For me, from a subjective point of view LTT is really suffering from this. Whilst I do love the hard work the group put into each video, I do think many of them could be divided into parts and try and focus on explaining things in a simpler way. Not saying I'm a toddler who doesn't understand a basics of an excel graph, but... A good presentation of a graphics card and how it performs in a handful of games, to me is much more important, than seeing 5-10 other video-cards compared to it with a massive excel layout that doesn't make sense. It is true that you still need to compare performance of something to something else, but adding more "comparison points" to one video grays out or even confuses to viewer a lot more. For example; I never pause the video during the excel presentations. For one, they go by too fast for me to even get my hand on the spacebar and two, as I said; there's always 5-10 other CPU's or GPU's or whatnot being compared to the main one in the video and finding said component in the list of even 5 is hard, especially if it doesn't sit at the very top. So instead of stuffing all the data you gather into one video. I'd hope LTT would cut the video's into parts like; Gaming benchmark, Video-editing benchmark, Zip-archiving etc... (though the last one might be a bit sort of an video) And really just focus on what they are showing on the video. Another example; "The Asus Hero GTX1080Ti sits right below the GTX Titan XP with, oddly enough; 2FPS defference with some margin of error..." whilst some random diagram goes by in the video, doesn't help me at all as a viewer. Instead, if your script talks about GTX1080Ti, highlight that card in the excel graph and when your script starts to talk about the GTX Titan XP, highlight that one. That's just a very basic idea of how to improve the presentation, especially when you have a larger list of said components to compare to each other. Another example is when people have started to compare testing rigs of AMD vs Intel. Listing ALL the freaking components in the systems. Sure you want the viewer know that these are the same systems overall, but saying all the names in the video is boring to listen to, but also just listing names doesn't prove anything about it being legit or not. But that's a hard one to fix, since I understand people want to atleast see the components in the rigs and see them listed as a WALL OF TEXT on the video. I hope my thoughts about this were clear and I totally understand the "snappier" approach Linus has, but this is just what I've felt recently with especially the release of Ryzen. I think Linus even said it himself that product names/titles are absurdly confusing as it is, so having all of those names/titles in one video doesn't really help all that much.
  9. I didn't know about this until now. A client of mine has (at my advice for speed improvement) bought an SSD for their Acer Aspire 3620 and is having me install it. With the parts bought and situated, the DVD drive burnt out, and the BIOS blind to USB, I turned to my 90nm guinea pig motherboard for the imaging process – only to find that there are apparently two kinds of IDE/PATA, and that I've got the wrong one! For the laptop and the SSD it's the right connectors, but my desktop board is using a larger PATA interface that is apparently 43-pin and more spaced out physically. What are these two types of connectors, what's the rationale between them, and what should I search so as to find converters/adapters for the newer PATA? My 45nm guinea pig has SATA if a converter using that would be appropriate. Thanks.
  10. My grandpa has recently gotten a new smartphone and this is dumb but he takes his time to delete EVERY notification, Every call log, Anything abnormal. my problem is although he has a data plan, He doesn't use it, my internet has been down for 3 days so i set up a hot spot from his phone. He keeps bothering me for it since the notification shows up. is there anything i can tell him to look at it in a different way?
  11. So i was browsing dell's deals and one one of them was the alienware x51. Just out of curiosity I looked at some of the options when I found this option for a 760ti. I believe there is no 760ti available so is this just a mixup of the 780 ti?
  12. Hello there, LTT forums ! This is my first post (: My question about the HD8000 series, is that WHERE IS IT ? I checked Wikipedia and there was a long list of supposed HD8000 graphics card. So I thought that there are HD8000 graphics cards out there. But then I googled HD8000 release date and I found an article saying that the HD8000 series is skipped ? that's weird. I also found out something about the HD7000 series being rebadged into the HD8000? is this true ? Hm. If that's the case, does most HD7000 card one buys now a sort of HD8000 since the HD7000 series has been rebadged ? Thanks in advance. I'm sorry if you didn't understand me.
  13. So yeah I'm thinking of building a low end gaming pc (£300($450)) so AMD was the obvious choice, but the problem is, I don't have a clue what all of the chipset numbers mean  ( I know Intel really well from linus' videos, but it's too expensive  ) Can someone help me out with figuring out what I need? I've tried Google, and it doesn't help that much, so I thought I would try here. Sorry if I appear to be really new and annoying, but I tried my best Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
  14. Hey guys, This is a bit of a long shot, but I'm curious so I'm asking either way. I'm a low level tech support employee for an electronics retailer, and I'm running into some confusing information. A customer who bought an Acer Predator G3-605 I8902 NL approached us and told us about the PC's GPU not corresponding with what's in the PC's formal specifications. The ones on the sticker, I mean. This PC is supposed to ship with an AMD R9 255 2GB, an OEM model. I opened up the machine and the card does indeed identify as an R9 255. It's an OEM card, and if I've done my homework correctly, this is a variant that can't really be bought seperately, it's just for OEM manufactuers. The problem that made the customer approach us in the first place, is that the card isn't recognised properly in Windows 10. It's labeled as an "AMD Radeon R7 Series / HD 9000 Series", everywhere, in Device Manager, GPU-Z, Speccy, etc. The rest of its tech specs, clock speeds, memory bus, etc, DOES correspond with an R9 255. It just labels it incorrectly. Updated the drivers to the most recent without any issue. No change. Performance-wise it's what you would expect from this card, which is to say, pretty mediocre. Reminds me on Linus' excellent rant on low-end cards... But I digress. What I'm really asking is, is this just a stupid software labeling error, that both I and the customer should totally ignore, or has there indeed been some kind of mix-up at Acer? Curious to know. Thanks in advance, guys!

    Amazon?

I accidently ordered a $150 product I didn't want from Amazon. I canceled it before it shipped. This was not fulfilled by Amazon. I get a refund, right?
  16. Hey there. I want to use a desktop for gaming/college in a few years, but I've never built a PC before. My dad bought/built a 2014 Alienware 17" for me but I don't know what parts it has. I really don't know how to say this but I basically want to know what parts I should use. I want to spend a minimum of $1,500 but a maximum of $4,000. I'm looking at 3 different pieces for each part; graphics card, memory, case, etc. I want to try and get watercooling but like I said, I've never built a PC. So then I'm going to see how much it all adds up to and then make adjustments if needed. Right now, I think I want to spend from $2,300 and $3,500, still staying in the 1500-4000 range. So these are the parts I'm looking at. CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-5750HQ Processor Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X99 Gaming G1 WIFI : ASUS ROG Rampage V Extreme : MSi X99A GODlike Gaming Graphics Card: MSi Radeon R9 390 : Msi GTX 970 Gaming 4G : EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti RAM: Corsair Vengeance® Pro Series - 32GB (4x8GB) Storage: Toshiba PH3400U-1I72 4TB Hard Drive (x2) + TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB Case: NZXT Phantom : Phanteks Enthoo Pro : Antec 1900 : NZXT Phantom 820 : Corsair Obsidian 900D Full Tower Like I said, I haven't finished deciding the rest of the parts. But I still need fans, radiators, coolant, and tubing. I've decided peripherals already such as monitors, mouse, keyboard, and speakers. Like I said, if I could get some help for it, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
  17. Hey everyone! My name is "noob" and I ask for help So here's my confusion - when I plug my external hdd into any usb port, and lets say I play music from it, does it go through the internal hdd aswell, or it has nothing to do with it? I'm confused since It makes sense to me if the data from the usb drive has to go through the internal hdd on its way. I know that I can easily turn my external hdd into an internal one by removing its cover and connecting it to a sata port, but aside from the superior speed, do I gain any other advantages? I hope you get my point and any info is welcome P.S. It's my first time posting on this forum so don't sue me for probably not doing it right...
  18. Hi, I'm baffled as to why Asus has made installing the latest drivers from their website so confusing/difficult to understand. I'm trying to install the Intel MEI for the chipset on my Asus Maximus VII Hero. So, I have downloaded the MEI driver from the Chipset section on the support page of the motherboard and this is what you see when you open the file. (see pics) There seems to be about 7 different installers that are not labelled in any way and these drivers don't come with any instructions whatsoever. How is the average consumer or even the slightly more experienced pc builder going to know which one they need just to install part of the chipset!!!!!!! I would also like to add that it would be very useful if Asus could just make a driver installer that comes with the disc but one that can downloaded straight from their website that already has the latest drivers in one simple package, a bit like MSI Live Update 6. Rant over. PS. Which one/ones should I install
  19. Hey! I just finished 2 builds for $900 dollars. One is featuring the FX-8320 processor while another is using the Intel core i5-4670. I will post the two builds below. Intel:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sribeast21/saved/2k2g AMD:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sribeast21/saved/2ia9 Which build should I get. Uses of computer: 1. Gaming 2. Web browsing 3. School Work 4. video rendering ***I want to go with the CPU that has a socket that will last for longer so I can upgrade. Which build should I get because I want to upgrade in the future and keep the same socket 1150 or AM3+ motherboard. Which CPU will have a longer future down the line.
  20. The question may sound, idiotic, perhaps, but bear with me. My logic concludes that my AMD CPU, an FX 8350, will work flawlessly with an AMD GPU, for example, an AMD R9 280. But then, what if I swapped it with an: EVGA - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Superclocked Graphics Card? AMD CPU+NVIDIA GPU... doesn't sound logical. From my experience with sharing products from nemesis companies ( Xbox 360 and Ipod - I know, consoles. Ugh. ), something tells me that AMD would have it that Nvidia GPU's would work less effectively on their CPU, or likewise. Then, is it technically true? AMD FX 8350 + AMD R9 280 = Success! AMD FX 8350 + NVIDIA GTX 760 = Scrap? Help!
  21. Why..? Why the heck Linus? Enough of the exaggeration... Why do you shoot in ProRes, which is easy to edit and post process, he still transcoded the footage to Cineform? Is he just wasting time or something? For footages from GH4, 100 Mbps H264 UHD 29.97 fps, I get it. But for FS700 or FS5? It doesn't make ANY sense to transcode ProRes to Cineform. I guess. Can somebody please explain?
  22. So I have this old motherboard that connects to a dvd drive through a 'p985h multibay daughter board' and I have done some research and still cannot find the names of the slots and I cannot find any information. It is not a pci slot or an agp slot. The slot has 60 pins and a gap and the motherboard is a HP Compaq SOCKET 775 MOTHERBOARD 381029-001 376335-002 376336-000 Can I have some help!!!
  23. What's the difference between hdr 10 and 10 bit color depth? hdr10 shows 10 bit images, yet i'm not hearing that hdr10 means 10 bit color depth, as in, an hdr10 display can have 10 bit color depth, but doesn't have to. They're separate things. I'm also hearing that some tvs have the hdr10 feature, but lack some functions such as "wide color gamut", and therefore cannot display it properly. Can anyone clarify?

  25. So I'm in the process of building a computer. This is my first time, so some of the acronyms and things I would know if I'd done this before are not there. For example: what does AAFP mean? Why is there a tiny plastic arrow to the left side of both the hdd led, and the power sw? Please help me with this.
