My current rig is becoming more and more obsolete as the months go by from what I can tell. Since I built this computer I've learned a lot and have noticed mistakes that I should have avoided when I made this PC back in 2012. The person who helped me plan my build sadly limited my future upgrading. Now, years later I know much more about computers and what I need it to do. Though I'm not to the point where I can't use outside help. I don't think many get to that point. So this is what I currently have. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/DarkAngelsBlade/saved/hbZgXL I have several reasons why I'm asking for help. 1. I want an outside opinion on what would be the best way to go about upgrading. I know that my GPU can not handle many of today's games and it can barely handle some games from the last year or two. I am not sure if just upgrading the GPU would solve most of my issues or if I'd need to basically buy a CPU/Motherboard/GPU, however I suspect I will. 2. I would like outside opinions on what to upgrade to. Ryzen just launched, Kabylake is new and solid. There's also hope that the R5/R3 series from Ryzen will be more suitable for OC'ing for gaming performance. 3. I can pick out parts for a PC that would work great, my own issues are whether or not they'd be the best solution for what I want. Budget and Location. My budget is up in the air right now, so that's not a defining factor, however I do know the limit. My max limit on pricing would be at about $1,000. I am also in the US, in an area where local used PC parts do not exist. My time frame is open ended and I should be able to buy the components within the next few months so I can't really jump on many sales and such, I'd rather focus on the components and the budget range and not so much the actual pricing. I would be just fine spending $20-50 more on something if it is considerably better than other options basically. Goal for my upgrade. My lowest aim is solid 1080p 60fps gaming on todays titles. I'd also love being able to stream those games or record the gameplay and make videos. My ideal would having components that would allow me to in the near future upgrade to 4k gaming with as minimal as possible overhauling in the future. Like with my current setup it's been 5 years, and had I chosen my parts differently I would have a better computer now and wouldn't necessarily be needing an upgrade like I am now, in the way I need it. Monitors. I currently have two 1080p monitors, a 23 inch and a 40 inch. Both are 60H I believe. I would like to be able to upgrade to a 4k monitor in the next few years as they become more and more mainstream. But the most I would be running is 3 monitors and only one of them would be 4k. Peripherals. On to peripherals! I don't need a new mouse or keyboard. I'd be open to a good backlit/rgb mechanical keyboard on sale but otherwise I'm set for now. If my current windows 10 OS wouldn't crossover to a new rig I would need windows 10, but that doesn't need to be a factor in the budget. I would like to know if I would have any issues with that. In-depth Reasons for upgrading. I talked about why I'm upgrading earlier but I'll go into more lengthy detail here, so if you don't want to read this that's fine. I'm mainly upgrading from my current PC because it's really slacking in the video gaming department. My GPU is this PC's current weakest link and I'm torn between just buying a budget 1080p gaming GPU or upgrading more. I personally don't know what gpu's would be bottlenecked by my CPU. My CPU also tends to have a hard time handling more than a few things at once, whether that's an issue of what I'm doing or the CPU's ability is also lost on me. I've optimized windows 10 as much as I can without losing some features I really like, I've made sure my drivers are constantly up to date unless I hear some news about a driver causing issues. I clean out my PC regularly as far as malware and such goes. I'm mostly in need of options, from just upgrading my GPU to upgrading the major parts of my pc. If I did upgrade the three major parts of this computer I'd probably turn it into a family pc for browsing and light gaming or into my own person server hosting pc etc, something that would benefit. I don't think anyone would buy the parts for anything, and my local area is horrid for used PC parts because everyone thinks their used PC parts are worth as much or more as a new part. The number one reason why I'm posting here is to gain more knowledge about building my second PC and what would suit me better for my PC usage. It's not so much as the actual items I'll upgrade to but learning how others came to that decision and picking up the information I've not gotten. So thank you for any and all help and I'll definitely be responding to this with updates on my thoughts and what I decide to do. Also please let me know if I need to add anything to this post or fix any mistakes, much appreciate. (Though I would prefer you don't just post fixes for that stuff.)

I'm planning to make a budget gaming pc with an old Optiplex that has Windows 10 Pro on it. The OS will be on an SSD, and it will have 4GB memory. Obviously, that needs some upgrades, so I'm planning to get all new RAM, as well as change the GPU. I also want to swap the SSD for something I know will have a cache, and I've selected a Samsung 860. The plan so far is to plug in the new SSD, migrate Windows via a cloning software, pull out the old SSD, and change the boot order. However, I watched the "LTT Windows Piracy" video, in which Linus talks about how Windows creates specific settings for the hardware it detects when it boots. Because I'm planning to swap some components, I'm wondering if this is going to mess with the Windows activation. So: What order should I do my upgrades in? Is there a different way I should migrate my OS? Should I do the SSD upgrade first or last? If you can, please give as much detail as possible, ideally as a sequential list. Thanks!

In an effort to appease my current itch to assemble a new computer I decided to 'side-grade' my current (i5 6600K) machine by transferring it into a smaller case. (From a Corsair 250d to a Cooler Master Elite 130) I watched the official Cooler Master YouTube video showing a AIO cooled system and the funky way the drives attach. Commentary said that there would be more than enough room for a push/pull setup on a front 120mm radiator having a 3.5" drive on the floor, so the side drive bracket could be removed. Since the air cooler that I had was too tall, I went with the Cooler Master Masterliquid 120. The MB transferred over flawlessly, of course. Assembling and mounting the AIO was also very easy, given the thumbscrews used to mount the fans. The 3.5" HDD, on the other hand did not fit in the designated area, even after removing the two lower thumbscrews on the inner fan. I had to re-mount the side drive bracket and use the upper mounting location for the drive, since the lower location impacted the AIO's hoses. Next was moving my two slim ODDs, in the appropriate 5.25->2x slim ODD adapter, using the tool-less mount mechanism on the case, the GTX 1070, and the modular PSU. It's amazing just how long the cables actually are and I thought several time, 'How am I supposed to cram all this into that? This case, however, allowed the cables to be folded against each other and moved out of the way to the sides so that there is a clear(ish) tunnel from the fans to the rear of the case. This is the first case that, from the get-go I honestly cared about cable management since none before had been a showcase or were so da[r]ned small. (Even the 250d had plenty of room below the main chamber to shove all the cables into after the fact.) It looks very good, and after messing with fan curves (upward) has acceptable fan noise, meaning for me almost none at 4'. Immediately after the build, however I noticed the CPU temps under a 10 min CPU-z stress test, were much higher than I expected, not dangerous though, simply disappointing. Normal operations were cool enough so I didn't worry about it too much. The next afternoon I smacked myself since I could not remember removing the plastic from the cold-plate of the AIO. After 20 years, I finally made that mistake. Temps dropped 15C when that was corrected. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/n6KBf8 What have you enjoyed working on, and completed, recently. What issues did you have during the build. I'm not really looking for the most impressive builds since modest and even first time builds, issues and corrections can be interesting to read. (Over the top rigs can be fun as well, though.)

Im in the middle of a really complex computer system upgrade and i need some help. TBH im not even sure if some of the things i want to do are even possible so i was hoping u guys could help. Incase ur wondering yes this is not my 1st time building a computer and yes i know what im doing. Please answer as many questions as u could, thanks 1- im trying to set up a multi-computer setup to make things a bit easier for me. my pc is my main gaming platform but at the same time i make youtube videos and sony vegas is a resource hog. to make things easier im building a 2nd computer to offload the rendering from my main rig so i could play games while a 2nd computer is rendering everything. since im getting a new case anyways are there any good cases on the market that could easily fit 2 separate mini atx boards... im talking something that is designed to fit multiple computers inside or that i could easily modify it to do that (price limit is $100 btw) 2- the 2nd computer im building is going to be a piece of garbage, im cheaping out on it as much as i possibly can to save $ but i need it to be able to run sony vegas. would a intel pentium g3240, a nvidia gt640, and 4 gigs of ram be enough. also i need a cheap used lga1150 mini atx motherboard for under $20 where could i find that 3- on a side note i have a old laptop and i might wanna do some... well lets just say interesting modifications to it. it is a toshiba satellite E205 laptop. the thing works but a good amount of the hardware is damaged (cracked screen, broken usb port, no battery, etc.). i know that laptops are a lot different than desktops in terms of the supported parts but the thing is half broken anyways. i was thinking, would there be any possible way for me to hook up my nvidia gtx 960 to it, i dont care if i have to rip off the exterior of the computer i just wanna impress myself and my friends by hooking up a gtx 960 to a laptop (it already has a nvidia geforce 310m idk if that matters) 4- i have around 14 hard drives literally just lying around collecting dust (im not exadurating btw). they are mostly old slow junky relics but they work, i wanna hook them all up to my 2 computers at the same time just for lols. i have more than enough sata cables and i have like 6 power supplies so worst case scenario i could hook up multiple power supplies to this monster but is there any conceivable way to hook them all up to both computers... i was thinking maybe i could do it by building a small server but then i realized that i have no idea how to do that and im not even sure if i could do something like that with a server 5- i wanna hook all of this up to 1 monitor (lol ur probably thinking im crazy by this point)... so im talking hooking up at least 2 computers, a server, and possibly more all up to 1 monitor and have some kind of switch to switch between them. also the monitor only supports 1 vga input so im not sure how that would work 6- lastly would there be a way to add the power of my laptops cpu to my main rig... if its possible for desktops i could probably figure it out for my laptop but is there any way to essentially create a multi-cpu computer without having to spend too much $ thanks again

Hello everyone, Im very new to building my own Computer and especially overclocking but Im willing learning and reading all the necessary stuffs i need to know. First of all here are my current Computer specs: CPUAMD FX 8320 MotherboardMSI 970A-G43 RAM8GB G.Skill GPUAMD Radeon R7850 Core Edition CaseCMStorm Scout 2 Advanced Storage120 GB SSD Kingston / 1TB 3,5" PSUbe quiet! BQT E9 Straight Power Display(s)2 Acer 24" LED CoolingARCTIC Freezer 13 KeyboardLogitech G710+ MouseLogitech G500s SoundOnboard Operating SystemWindows 7 Home Premium 64Bit So the main things I do with my Computer is playing Video games and I was thinking about upgrading it for GTA V and The Witcher 3. I want to play this games on Ultra Settings or at least on High Settings. Another game I usually play i League of Legends where i want to record my games for practice purposes and sometimes I even stream. So this should be the things I want to do with the Computer and right now it's not working as I want to. The thought about upgrading my GPU into an Asus GTX 970 Strix Upgrading my RAM into 16gb The thing Im most concerned about is my CPU Is it enough to Overclock it? If it is enough should I buy a new cooling system like H100i from Corsair? or should I maybe upgrade it into an Intel i7 4790K? Or are there any other processors worth buying? Wich motherboard should I take with the Intel processor? Im looking forward hearing your opinions.

Need Help Upgrading my PC. Video Editing
Micahlifts posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey all, I want to upgrade my PC. I use it for editing videos and use programs such as Sony Vegas, Adobe products and Cyberlink. I have trouble editing larger projects and begin to lag, freeze and skip frames. I have built this PC little by little over the past few years so have many different PC parts ranging from 1-4 years old. I am looking to spend $100-200 range on the first upgrade and want to know what is the next part/parts I can improve the most performance. Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance!
