Hi all! I am part of a student-organisation trying to organise a cultural family event for ~200 people. We would like to involve the children by organising quizzes tournament via phone or tablet. As we are student-run, we are quite limited in terms of budgeting. My initial idea was to use Kahoot, but due to the amount of participants, its not possible to use the basic subscription. I am looking at other applications, but I am yet to find a solid-solution. I was hoping that I can find some solutions/ideas in this forum. Description of a perfect scenario: 7 Booths in total Each booth has a quiz Participant's result can be traced and monitored Leaderboard is monitored by the organisers I'm also a computer science student, so I'm open to programmable solutions as well. I have experience with C++, C# and Python. (Very little experience with web-development ) Any ideas or guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks! Arief.

Summary Apparently, soon we will hear the announcement for these Intel Arc graphics cards (A380, A580, A750) sometime in May or early June. Embargo is in effect from May 15th to June 30th. Considering all the delays Intel has had with this release, it finally seems like we're going to get a third player in the GPU space in due time. Quotes My thoughts Hopefully these cards launch at MSRP (doubtful, but what are you going to do). Sounds like it will be a paper launch, as we've been hearing "soon" from Intel for quite some time now with them continually delaying the release. But that possibly is a good thing because they might be trying to get drivers more polished. Regardless, it's going to be weird when the cards finally do come out to be able to recommend people a third video card company for their builds (it's been a long time since that's been the case; like decades). Let's see if Raja has been cooking up something nice for us at Intel! http://wccftech.com/intel-playing-dirty-undercut-amd-ryzen/ Clearly Intel is afraid of something, or at least are taking pro-active action in trying to reduce the AMD threat as soon as possible. I personally think that them trying to meddle with 'independent' reviewers before they release Ryzen reviews is absolutely shameful, and should be actively discouraged. Therefore when the embargo is lifted on March 2, I believe the tech community should take a close objective look at each review, and make their own conclusions based on the benchmarks provided, as the reviewers own benchmarks may or may not be influenced. We will have to see.

Im currently in a tough situation trying to choose my new phone... I currently have a OnePlus 2 and am deciding on moving on to either the Samsung Galaxy s8 or OnePlus 5. The last Samsung phone I had was the s3 and that was the phone I had before my OnePlus 2. So my major question is should I stick with OnePlus and get the 5 or reunite with Samsung and go for the s8?

Okay, so I was playing Elder Scrolls Online over the weekend free through steam but as usual had to sign up for a new account. No worries job done but I noticed a competition that they are running, and applied again nothing strange or startling. Out of curiosity, I looked at the competition rules, now maybe it's just me, but what do they have against Canadians? I honestly would be interested to know why they have chosen to have this in the rules. I have attached an undoctored screenshot. Any thoughts?

So the rules are simple: I'm looking for the best performing GPU in current games, at the best price! That means we can go from a GTX 550Ti up until the Titan Xp, the value/price ratio is the only thing that matters. To make competition fair: - Average/general Ebay prices only (cards like the RX 480 have great value/price, but you won't find them new in stores anymore!) - As a means of comparing performance, we'll use the Firestrike Benchmark scores from Futuremark (although discussion is possible regarding VRAM and DirectX usage!) - Overclocking capabilities can also be brought into consideration, but any airflow tweaks you need for it add up to the price of course! I'll kick things off by submitting the R9 Fury! At a price of roughly a little more than $300, it has a Firestrike-score of over 15500, which I think gives you guys a hard time topping that already Good luck to all!

Hello everyone, I am Canadian and do not want to order online. So I am stuck with memory express. There are two monitors I'm stuck between. 4k: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX69872 1440p: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX69764 I play a lot of games so I need the 100+ refresh rate. However I'm stumped because the ViewSonic I can have beautiful ips4k visuals then switch to 1080P and get the 120hz. So I guess my question is what looks better. 1440pTN vs a 1080ips panel. Also the tn panel has 1ms response time, and the other has 5ms. Not entirely sure if we can percieve the difference but throwing that out there. ALSO the 4k display is 27 inches and the 1440p is 24". So I know pixel density is important but don't know much about it. If the 4k monitor could do 120hz at 1440p then I'd probably get that one.

Hi everyone, So my friend and I have been interested in building accurate retro Windows XP gaming machines ever since we got into PC gaming - revisiting old games we never got to play when they were new was always fascinating to us. I built my Core 2 Quad system for last year, but never got around to finishing it as it has major problems, and my friend has been working on one for a while as well but never completed it. So after discussing the idea over one pivotal Discord call, we decided it would be cool to have a competition to see who could build the best, most period correct Windows XP retro gaming machine. Think of this like a Scrapyard Wars, except with no youtube channels involved and without the set budget given to both contestants, as neither of us have a whole lot of cash on hand. Oh and we have way longer to work on it. As for how this would work - we would gather parts and work on the system as a long term thing. Possibly a few weeks, months, however long we like to make the best system we can pull together. Like I said, we don't really have the means to just go out and buy everything all in one day, besides, the best deals can only be had with patience. This is where the judges come in, as once the systems are done, we would share extensive photos of the systems and possibly even unlisted Youtube videos with the judges. For this competition, we've tentatively decided to have 4 criteria. The first is performance. We will test with 3DMark06, Cinebench R11, Crysis (the original), and we might add one other game. I'm not sure how we'll calculate this, but the end average/result will be out of 10. The second metric is aesthetic. This is again from 1 to 10 for simplicity and the judges (you!) will judge the images/videos from both contestants on this, 1 being a system on a cardboard box with horrible cable management and 10 being an custom watercooled system with impeccable cable management or whatever else you find aesthetically pleasing as a judge. Next is overall build coordination/parts selection, again from 1 to 10, 1 being a core 2 extreme cooled by an Intel stock cooler on a b43 motherboard with an ax1500i, and 10 just being a very well rounded and properly selected system in your opinion. Finally, there's the period correctness score (this one's a little complicated). Research of each of our selected components helps here, as this score is about if our components are something that people would have used back in the day (for the most part). More precisely, each component in the system will get a score, unlike the other metrics. Basically how this will work is that each component, except the power supply, case, and cooler (I'll get to those soon), will be weighted from 0 to 5 (0 if nothing's present, 1 if it's horrible, 5 if it's awesome.) For these, think logically - for example, for RAM, think if the capacity is appropriate for the time, not the model or brand. Also, the sound card or sound setup counts as one of these, as they were found in many systems back in the day. Now for the outliers, we figured that you wouldn't want to use a really old power supply and probably not an old cooler either, but we wanted to reward anyone who does use a suitable but period correct power supply. Thus, we're counting these as extra credit, if you will. Quick example for the period correctness thing as it might have seemed complicated. Let's say you have a system with a core 2 quad Q6600, NForce 780i motherboard from Asus, 8GB of DDR2 RAM, 8800 GTX SLI, AX760i from corsair, phanteks p400, WD velociraptor 500GB HDD, and no soundcard. You might judge the system like so for period correctness: CPU = 4, Q6600 was very common Mobo = 4, NForce was common and a very good option RAM = 2, 8GB was super expensive and not very realistic, as XP 64-bit had crappy application support GPU = 5, SLI was super common and G80 was one of nvidia's best GPUs in history PSU = 0, AX760I came out way after XP Case = 0, P400 came out way after XP HDD = 3, Velociraptor were very good options but kind of expensive and not everyone had them even in high end systems Sound setup = 0, Integrated motherboard sound was dismal back then and at least a basic PCI Sound Blaster was a lot better Final closing remarks on the judging criteria: Try to keep period correctness and build coordination as separate things if you do want to judge. For example, if someone does put a period correct PSU from 2006, but it wasn't very good, then you can give them full points for period correctness, but a bad score in build coordination. Also, I think everything will be weighted equally, but it's possible the period correctness will be a little higher. And I think the peripherals and stuff will be excluded, as much as I'd like to include them TL:DR my friend and I want to have a friendly Windows XP build competition and we need some judges. Just respond to the post if you're interested! I'll probably update it later with a google forms sheet so we can get in contact on discord or whatever platform works best for you guys.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules. I also hope this is in the right section. Anyways! I thought it would be fun to do a little competition to see who can make the best build under a certain budget. Winning build lists (and their "owners") will be posted here. The builds will be chosen with gaming in mind, as that's the easiest to pick parts for (imho). But there are a few rules. The breaking of rules may result in your build not being chosen, even if it is superior to another. Follow every rule as closely as possible. RULES 1) The CPU may not bottleneck the GPU in any measurable way. This means that you can't partner a Celeron with a Titan. 2) The builds may not contain Windows, monitors, or peripherals. 3) You must use PCPartPicker to organize the parts. If you do not live in the US, please adjust to US Currency by changing PCPP settings. And please, don't use a link. And hide it with a spoiler. 4) No "troll" builds. Make sensible builds. Don't put together the aforementioned Celeron and Titan and pretend you won the $1200 contest. 5) You must have a good power supply. Check STRMfrmXMN's whitelist here for a PSU that will perform well. 6) You're allowed up to $10 over budget. But only in shipping and handling charges. 7) Everything matters. Two builds are identical but one has better case fans? The case fans one will win. Same goes for cooling, even though the next note will apply. 8) No overclocking (bear in mind a stock 4790k will beat a regular 4790, etc.). However, factory overclocked GPU's do count. Also, if you have an overclockable CPU, use a motherboard that supports it. 9) You don't have to actually build it. This is a parts LIST competition. 10) Yes, prices will fluctuate! This will be based on current prices. If winning lists have changed significantly, notify me in your post. 11) Stay on topic! If you want to say something, take it to PMs. 12) NO rebates. Some companies' are pretty flaky. 13) Have fun! Want to suggest rules (or anything else)? PM me. Anyways, here are the brackets: $350 $500 $800 $1100 $1400 $1700 $2500

(Click for source) Google/Alphabet is about to become the most valuable company in the world, passing Apple, who has held the most valuable company for some time now. Just to clarify, they have not YET, but they are very close too, about $200 billion, which shouldn't take to long to get too. This is probably due to how poorly Apple has been selling with the 6S/6S+, as some of you know it isn't selling as good as Apple expected. This probably might bring some tighter competition between Apple and Google/Alphabet, which is a good thing mostly. Welcome, one and all, to the Console KillerZ Competition! Your challenge is to design a computer that runs consoles into the ground while staying below $250 USD. The winner receives every participants' likes on their winning build! Got to get that karma somehow... This competition is purely theoretical, so no need to build anything, because you won't actually be winning a prize worth money (even though likes are priceless). You have 24 hours to design the PC. Post with the most likes wins! Rules: 1. A parts list must be provided via PCPartPicker.com. 2.Your components can be used, but you must list them on your PCPartPicker list. 3. Operating systems are not required. 4. Cases DO NOT have to be stock cases (ie. a cardboard box could be used). 5. Your build must have a name (Console Killer is acceptable, though it won't award you any bonus cool name points). 6. Have fun picking and judging others' build concepts! Entries end at midnight Eastern time.
