Especially in online games, I have recently found that this feature called 'HPET', short for 'high precision event timer' may be the likely culprit. It was the reason why Hitman 3 was stuttering for me, which is a game that is always online. Don't try disabling it in Device Manager or the Bios, it won't do you any good. You'll have to open the command prompt window and type in the following commands in sequential order: bcdedit /set useplatformclock No bcdedit /set disabledynamictick Yes Restart the computer afterwards, and hopefully it will fix the stuttering. It might even increase the framerate.

Hello, Greetings,I have a quite severe issue on my hands.I cannot run cmd as administrator. Whenever I try to do so I get the error "File system error (-1073741819)" Googling this issue brought up results that my drive might be corrupted. But that's not possible as everything else (checked most of my stuff) runs just fine and even CMD works fine when not run as admin. People are saying try "chkdsk" but I cannot do that as I cannot run CMD as admin. If I cannot fix this I might have to do a fresh install.Something I really don't want to do. Thanks all for your help.

Hey everyone, I am facing this issue where when I boot my system and after filling the password I am welcomed by a black screen with command prompt on it(System 32). someone told me to type in "explorer.exe" to retrieve the desktop back; and it sure did.But that was a temporary fix,now every time i boot my system i am greeted by this black screen and every time i have to type in the command to get the desktop. I have tried sfc/scannow command on cmd but did not help....there were no error. I was planning to restore my system to a safe point...but since i did not enable that feature i could not do so. I did not want to reinstall windows as it said i can keep the personal files but the apps that i installed would be deleted. I got lots of apps and games and i dont want to waste time reinstalling them, although they were installed on separate HDDs whereas the OS(WINDOWS 10) is on my SSD. Anyone who faced the same problem? can anyone fix it? Please do help me out.

Hey everyone, I'm bored and want to have it so when I start cmd from win+R it auto runs a echo command which will paint an image or show a preconfigured message (this is by just typing "cmd" into win+r, no extra syntax). So now you know my vision my problem. At the moment I am relatively well versed in batch but I have no clue how I would run a command automatically or how I would replace the phrase "cmd" with a batch file, etc. I'm sorry if this makes no sense I really don't know what I'm talking about. TIA (BTW I'm on windows 10)

Hey there! Ever wondered how you can view saved WiFi password on your Windows PC? Well, its a fairly simple process. Today, I shall guide you through the process! First, you open up your command prompt. There are various ways of doing so. The easiest way is to open up RUN and type in cmd and hit enter.(You can open run by simultaneously pressing Windows and R keys in your keyboard). Then, type the following command: netsh wlan show profiles This shows up all your saved WiFi(s). Then, type in the following command: netsh wlan show profiles "WiFi name" key=clear Now, you will see the WiFi password after "Security Key:" For more info, tips and a brief explanation on the commands used, kindly refer to the following YouTube video: Thank You for your time

Hey guys, recently I have noticed a problem where my pc started taking a while to boot up. It boots up normally and after the welcome screen, there is no desktop. All that is on my screen is a black screen with a very small CMD window open that cannot be fullscreen'd or otherwise used. After about 2 minutes, it just changed to my desktop. I ran a full system scan and even a boot scan and no viruses or problems. I made a run with CCleaner for any registry problems and nothing came up. I have also noticed my PC has gotten much slower, with games I used to run with little to no problems running absolutely abysmal e.g Battlefield 4. I check and update my drivers and BIOS every month and I honestly have no clue why this started to happen. SYSTEM SPECS: Intel Pentium G3258 OC'd @ 3.6GHZ EVGA GTX 750 TI 8GB Crucial Ballistix RAM 1tb TOSHIBA Hard Drive MSI h81m-p33. Ill be more than happy to provide pictures and information.

So at the school I go to I help with Network Management. We've got a Proxmox VM machine with several different virtual servers on it. The UniFi controller that is installed on it from the previous Network Manager is way out of date. She neglected the servers, network. No security updates were ever done, cheap refurb machines kept getting bought and half the campus and servers were still on XP. In just four months since the new Director of Technology (My friend) and me came in we have gotten rid of most of the old 2003 servers and gone to 2012 and linux machines such as FreeNAS and PfSense and such. All the desktops are either OS X or Windows 7 or 10 now and we've revamped the server rooms with Smart-UPS and much needed cable management. However, the 30 or so Ubiquiti UAP's that we have are running on the way out of date management console. Neither of us know exactly how to install the new Linux UniFi console using ONLY console mode on the Promox virtual server since it is a headless unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I host my own private server from my computer and my friend and i want to work on it gradually but for him to be able to help he needs file access and command prompt access for the server, so far i have given him file access through windows 10's built in FTP services but now im stumped on how to give him the ability to start and stop the server via the batch file i use to do that function. so my question is - Is there a way i can give my friend CMD Access without giving him complete computer control? P.S. I want him to be able to start and stop the server while allowing me to be able to use my computer. Im a bit of a noob with this so i apologise if this is a un-needed post.

I don't understand the difference between them. The only difference I can see is that they are written differently. I can find hundred of tutorials online for command line but none for command prompt. Why is that.

Describe the problem: Hello all this afternoon I went to load up firefox to do some web browsing as usual and it fails to load any webpage, but In know that I am connected because I just got done playing some online games. I figured it may be an issue with Firefox so I loaded up the crappy Edge and used that for a while and tried Firefox again but with no luck. So then I tried installing Google Chrome but when in the installer it says "Connecting to the internet" it does nothing but the infinite loading bar. It should be noted that a couple days ago I did some pretty big changes to the PC such as an upgrade in motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Along with that I did a fresh install of Windows 10. Now for some reason Firefox and others were working just fine the past couple days and even this morning but this afternoon rolled around and I can no longer connect using anything other than Edge. operating system: Windows 10 Professional 64bit specs: Intel i5 6600K, 16 Gigs G.SKill RAM @ 3200Mhz, EVGA GTX 780 SC, Samsung 840 Evo 250 SSD, Seagate 1TB HDD, 800 Watt 80 Plus Bronze Corsair PSU. Error Messages: None that I am seeing. Actions Taken: I have been doing some research lately and have attempted several times to do in command prompt as admin "netsh int ip reset" and "netsh winsock reset" neither have seemed to help at all. Please help me!

I downloaded a couple of ornamental fonts and wanted to delete 'em after I checked 'em out. Almost all of them deleted just fine except for just two files. I kept getting error messages along the lines of "File can't be located" or "File doesn't exist". The files had no extensions (e.g, "char.")and were "0 bytes", so that was the problem. I've had similar deletion issues in the past with various versions of Windows, but this one kicked my ass because none of the usual tricks worked. Everything I tried spat back the same errors. Here were some things that I tried & failed (not in this exact order): hit Refresh TURNED MY COMPUTER OFF AND ON AGAIN (DUH! LMAO) delete the whole folder instead of just the files changed file extension changed file names cleared explorer/other system cache used SUPERDelete tool from SUPERAntiSpyware checked running processes/services to see if they were related to font files booted into Safe Mode to delete run cmd (admin) to use del *.* ended the "explorer.exe" task and then tried del *.* THE COMMAND THAT ENDED UP WORKING WAS del * I suspect that since the files had a period but no file extension name at the end, the original del *.* didn't run properly. Anyway, the files deleted successfully, BUT the folders would not! I had to work backwards up the folder tree and delete folder by folder until I got to the parent folder. I hope that someone finds this helpful if they ever run into such a freak problem!

Command Prompt has been one of the more neglected applications in Windows over the years but in Windows 10 it is getting a plethora of new features that are long overdue. Last but not least it also has opacity support now ranging from 30% to 100%. The two best things for me are Ctrl + V support (no longer have to right-click and select paste...) and now it will convert "fancy" quotation marks into straight ones (This has been a problem if you've ever copy and pasted a command from a website or document where the text is formatted with fancy quotes, you had to remove them and add standard ones else the command would fail. When I launch command prompt (either CMD or Command Prompt) from my start menu, or call CMD on run, it opens a command prompt window which cannot do any tasks: even "help" and "cd" don't work (top image). The issue also occurs when I The only way I can make it work is by going into system32 and running it manually, at which point it works with no problems (bottom image). Can anyone explain why this is, and suggest anything I could do to make it work from the start menu. This has only started recently, although I hadn't used cmd for a few weeks before the issues; I have installed several windows updates in the period when it broke. EDIT: In the same time period, autodesk inventor has broken with error code 0xc0000005 (something like that) (2013 and I also installed 2014 to see if it would fix it, which didn't work) and dropbox won't launch. No error messages, it just doesn't run, even by manually executing it. I don't know whether it's connected.
