Hello, I want to build my first PC and I require help from a experience PC builders. I want to make small sized and quiet system strong enough for 1440p gaming (at least with some titles). Case : for a case I was considering fractal designed nano, since it's small, sound isolated and had window (I know silly...) any ideas are very welcomed. CPU : I've been thinking about intels i5 i8400 or i8600. I'm not sure if it is worth to pay extra for oc that I will never do. And I'm not sure if clock speed will impact my gaming in any significant way. (I need help on that one!). Cost is not that much higher but at this same time I would not like to spend more then I have to specially if I will not utilise it. GPU: I've been thinking about 1070 in small factor I've seen one that appears to be half of the normal size. But I have doubts if I should not wait for 1070ti. Also I'm not sure how it will end up with heat and noise. So I struggle in picking specific model. RAM: I know nothing about that except that I will pick 2440mhz or less since I've heard that there is no point in having faster ram.do you think I can save up few bucks on slower ram? Still 2k tho. Also I have question, is it possible to have too big ram for motherboard? All itx motherboard s looks so small and ram looks so bulky... At least on pictures... I think there's no point in spending too much on ram (correct me if I'm wrong). Motherboard: I know nothing except that it has to be small (as you can see I don't really know a lot.) any recommendations are welcomed. PSU: I don't know what to pick since I don't know what is enough power for my set up plus I would like something quiet. Cooling: I've been thinking about nocture since it's reasonable prize, it's small and buyers clame it is silent fan. Plus do I need car fans for this build? Misc: is there way to pimp look of this set up ?I mean something classy like cables or some small leds. Please if you can make any suggestion or give me any advices for that set up I would really appreciate it since I don't think I want to go for console... Thank you in advance, Lukasz

So, coffeelake was announced recently (I think today?). I currently have a decent pc, but I need to switch CPU+mobo to finish up my upgrading. I plan on moving into a SFF case in the future, so there may be cooling limitations there (looking at the phanteks evolv shift, so it does support AIO coolers) I need good productivity performance (PUBG+recording/streaming), so I'm focused on the i5 and i7 lineups. To mix things up a bit, I'm seeing if my friend can get one of said 8th gen chips for me with his employee discount (50% off), so price savings are lessened. First: Worth considering getting an i7-8700k? Second: Will there even be mITX cases on launch (or a week or two after?) Thanks! EDIT: I bought 2x16 DDR4-3000..., but intel says 8th gen supports 2666 for now.... will I be able to utilize the extra clocks later on? ------ Current rig: phenom ii x6 1045t (overclocked to super toasty temps to keep up :P) 980ti (<-totally bottlenecked rn)

I didn't quite get that so sorry if i am asking something silly. I will buy a x299 motherboard with LGA2066 socket. I will be able in the future to update my 7th gen CPU to 8th gen? Intel will produce Coffe Lakes that will fit on 2066 socket or it will make a new socket? And how chipset take place on all of that. X299 mobos will have X299 chipset. Coffe lakes will be produce for this chipset? or the new Z370 one? Thanks for your time. Sorry again for my questions

Where can i learn about the AMD side of things like Ryzen and the history between the two. I've only known about Intel and did not bother to learn about Ryzen processors but with the growing number of people prefering over Intel and suggesting that other people move to using it to, I've decided that it's time to expand my knowledge outside of Intel since i was actually looking to get the 7600k but decided to wait for Coffee Lake and if not that then at least think everything through before buying any more parts other than the case (which yes i know it isn't a part but you know what i mean). Is there any quick way to learn about AMD or is the best way to just look at statistics, comparisons or is there a video, by Linus perhaps?

Should I get Ryzen 1600 (4GHz OC) or Intel i5 8400? Both are for same price..

Hi everyone, I'm currently using an i3-6100 overclocked to 4.4GHz (I have the ASRock Pro 4s and never updated the bios) and I think I want to upgrade. I've started dabbling in android development, and I think I want more cores for those pesky gradle syncs. Additionally, I've started playing PUBG and the i3 sits pegged at 100%, bottlenecking my 1060. I was digging around on ebay, and I see that you can get an i7-6700 for anywhere from $250 to $325 ish. I also noticed that my CPU sells for around $70 and so does my motherboard. So my question is, should I just sell my i3 and go for the 6700 or sell both the i3 and the motherboard and pick up an 8400 and one of the cheaper z370 boards (added bonus, as I hate the mobo I have now). I think that Ryzen is out of the question, as I only have 2400 mhz RAM. I believe that the cost would work out to be about the same, once the 8400 comes back in stock. Thoughts?

I was just wondering if coffelake will be able to run on Z270 or Z170 and be LGA 1151. Thanks

I recently posted about why my temps are so high with only 1.3 peek voltage. Usually they run at 68c. Just for fun i bumped up my overclock from 4.7ghz 1.3 too 4.8ghz 1.33v. And some temps went up by 10c. Is this normal temps to you guys? Fan speed on radiator is set so the watertemp doesnt go over 35c. I mean you can see in the hwinfo that vcore peeked at about 1.36v, but it runs closer too 1.3v under normal load. Edit: Ive tryed to reapply the tim twice now. But i dont know.... is it possible that i have applied the tim badly 2times in a row ?

Can anyone explain my boot temps? I mean 71c with 1.28vcore and a corsair h115i pro cooler? I have checked the thermal paste 2 times, the spread is always fine. But i still get theese big spikes. I dont mean 71c is a big spike, but with a 280mm aio and only 1.28vcore its a high spike. When i play games the temps dont go over 68c.

Ive had my CPU for a year now, and I see all these videos on youtube. People having the same cooler and cpu as mine, sometimes worse cooler and higher end cpu. And they still get 20C idle temps. My idle temps never go below 35C. Load temps are peeking at 72C ish. Usually around 50 while gaming. But im just wondering is there some special trick to make the idle temps go down? I use Balanced mode i windows, also speedstep in bios with turbo enabled and all that. Cooler: Corsair h1151pro / 8600k 4.7GHZ 1.3v

Goodmorning guys, i have 2 questions: 1.in my country, i5 8400 have a same price with ryzen 2600x, so which one will the best for gaming experience? My GPU is GTX 1060 2. If i go with ryzen 2600x, can b450's motherboard handle that CPU? I'm not going to Overclocking anyway, just play with stock, maybe i will overclock my RAM Thanks for your help, i hope you understand and im sorry if my english really bad :)

Hello Linus Community, I have a very weird and for me unexplainable problem. A colleague of my built an office pc and could not install windows on to it. The system started to boot from the USB, crashed short before showing the installing screen and rebooted. Yesterday I tried many different things. After plugging an old AMD GPU in the PCIe slot, connecting it with the PSU and with a display via HDMI, I achieved to install Windows. Everything worked after installing Windows and all important drivers and updates, even if I plug the HDMI cable in the motherboard and booted with the internal GPU/onboard GPU. And now the "funny" thing. When I remove the GPU or unplug the power cable of the PSU from it (so it gets to juice) the machine crashes shortly before finished booting into Windows. Can someone please explain me this? I built hundreds of systems and never had a similar error. The only thing I suppose to and didn't try is to change the PSU (630W Thermaltake Berlin) because I had no at hand. Specs: MoBo ASRock H310M-HDV CBU Intel Core i3 8100 SSD Samsung EVO 860 SSD 500GB RAM 8 GB DDR4 PSU 630W Thermaltake Berlin Windows 10 Home* *(EDIT)

Specs: MSI B360M GAMING PLUS i7-8700 SilentiumPC Fera 3 MX-4 paste Zalman Z1 case with two fans (yes they are in right direction) I have problem with my new CPU. I had i5-6500 with same cooler and same paste and if I remember right, I never got more than 70C. When I stress test FPU (AIDA64) on new 8700, I am getting 90C for 15 minutes and then it startsdisabling turbo: Ambient temperature is 30-31C (Because we have hot days :D) Temperature of top of cooler 42C (Measured by multimeter, idk his accuracy) So, is it because of ambient temperature? Or something is not good? Is CPU broken? I dont want delid!

Hey guys and girls, today i made a huge mistake. I installed a 8700k CPU into a Z270 and after 30min of changing the RAM positions and trying another PSU i realized, that the Z270 Chipset (and therefore the changed Pin-Layout in the 8. Gen CPUs) is the problem why its not posting MB: ASRock Z270 Pro4 I already returned my MB and bought a new one (Z370 now of course), but it is shipped on Friday. So my question is: Does the 8700k probably get damaged by my treatment? I hope not

Well I am thinking of getting msi ge63vr Raider with gtx 1070 my budget is 1900 bucks suggestions supported well should I buy one now or wait for the coffelake and Nvidia Volta I’m really confused about this

The first intel H370 motherboard, the Gigabyte H370 AORUS Gaming 3, has been leaked online. It has build-in Wifi and usb type C support. The aesthetics however is significantly different than the Z370 version. The heatsinks seems to has more surface area than the Z370 gaming 7 but still not as great as the X470 Gaming 7: Heatsinks on X470 The IO is not rich but not bad. Really surprised that there is not Display port. more pictures: Source: https://hardware.hdblog.it/2018/03/02/Gigabyte-H370-AORUS-Gaming-3-WiFi/

Hi All, I am currently having the below rig: Processor: AMD FX 8320 Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard Graphics Card: MSI GTX 970 4G OC RAM: G-Skill Ripjaws 8GB DDR3 1600 x2 (16GB) PSU: Seasonic 620W M12 II EVO Fully-Modular SSD: Samsung EVO 250gb Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM CPU Cooler: Cooler-Master Master Liquid 240 Cabinet: Antec P8 (Tempered Glass Side Panel w/ CM Universal LED Strip (Pair of Red/White)) I am facing excessive fps drops over the last 3-4 months (irrespective of settings applied to games). Only older games (AoM, Vice City, etc) are running at optimum FPS. I tried upgrading to a new Storage and SSD combo (the ones mentioned above), the same issue when installing the game in both storage media. Also, system seems to down perform with click delays, function time outs, etc. I believe my processor is at fault here as the default temperature i can see in MSI Afterburner is 55 degree C in idle even with the cooler installed. I have reapplied the cooling paste and still its of no avail. I am planning to upgrade my CPU to an Intel Coffee Lake and for that I need to change my M'Board and RAM as well. Although I am not yet ready with the financing for the upgrade up until the end of April or beginning of May, I would like some suggestion on any remedy that can be done in the meantime. I would request suggestions on CPU and motherboard combos. My color preference of (Cabinet is Red/Black/White) Only... My upgrade plan: Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 Motherboard: MSI Z370 Gaming Plus RAM: G-Skill Trident 16GB DDR4 (2x8) Any advice or suggestions would be highly helpful to me. Thanks, D'Aur0 P.S. - Sorry for the huge thread

Hi there! So I'm currently in the process of building a new PC - and I just sold my old one. I want to bring my SSD and OS with me to the new one. I made a deal with the buyer of my old one, that I install a new 1TB HDD and they'll take care of installing the OS. My question is therefore what steps do I take to move my SSD from my old one to the new one? I have a bootable flashdrive with W10 and I've linked my license to my Microsoft account. I would like to completely erase OS and everything from it, so I can start over with the new one. After (or prior to?) reformatting my SSD, do I need to do anything in order to prepare for installation of the 1TB HDD in my old computer? EDIT: I have an Samsung SSD, and Samsung Magician Software installed. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys (and gals)- So I’m building a Coffeelake computer, the first one I’ve built since my 2011 build with Sandybridge 2400. Being fairly new to the higher end world of computer parts I decided to take the trip down overclocking lane with a 8600k after seeing many reviews by all the big names showing the performance as top notch when overclocked. I’ve got the processor unopened right in front of me and I realized I really have no clue what overclocking really does on an Intel CPU. Don’t get me wrong.. I get that it increases the clock speed to almost 5ghz which results in more instructions per clock.. etc.. etc.. etc.. but what does that mean when I’m not running a benchmark and I’m just browsing the web and want to keep my pc for 5+ years? Here are some of the questions I’ve seen asked many times here on forums/comments but has never “really” been answered. I’m sure I’m not the only one with these questions and before I open this $300 investment I’ld love to better understand how this all really works. CPU - 1- If you OC, how does that “play” with turboboost 2.0 2- “ .. “ 3.0? 3- Do I need to turn off turboboost? 4- Will the CPU still reduce clock speed when I don’t need all the processing power (idle/ms word)? 5- If I’m using wall power (through a surge protector), will an overclocked CPU be as tolerant to power fluxes? 6- Will Intel continue to support a warranty if the chip is overclocked? 7- If the chip is capable of 5.0ghz with 1.4 volts, but that’s at the ragged edge; is 1.25 volts safer? 8- In general how do you “safely” overclock if you want to leave some extra room for error? What of the factors do you turn down? 9- If I’m not willing to blast my CPU at a full 5.0 ghz all day, and would be happy with 4.8ghz to play it safe but want my PC to last 7 years like my sandybridge and still be relevant should I just spend the extra 40 bux and do a 8700 with lower IPC? Memory – 1- If you aren’t willing to be at the bleeding edge of memory OC, should you just go with the 2400 speed memory? 2- Can you overclock memory that shows 2400 speed to let’s say 3000? 3- If you buy 3000 memory is it already overclocked (hardware level) or do you still need to do something to get the full 3000 speed out of it? 4- I’m assuming there is a law of diminishing returns (speed increase over performance) what is the sweet spot? 5- Is there any harm in overclocking memory beyond power usage?
