Sooooo I basically just started using Thorium and she is fast my only gripe about it is that when I am on Udemy the player just gives me a black screen and does not play anything. Can this be a codec issue or some other thing going on? One thing to note is that I use localCDN and Ublock Origin, all the settings are stock in both of them except the rules that LocalCDN had generated for Ublock Origin. I disabled both and it still does not work however, strangely I have all the same extensions on Firefox and it works fine. I suspect this may be some sort of issue with chromium based browsers or maybe just Thorium itself? Thanks in advance(all the extensions I use are down below):

I've got a normal VHS tape and a D-VHS player. I need to know if there's some form of incompatibility between them because information is sparse online. The audio works but the video is heavy with artifacting. Could also be tape degradation or something else. (https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/523482515)

Basically, I have no idea how to approach this. I'm usually somewhat tech savvy, but this has stumped me because I did nothing to cause this except using Windows (I know, it's deserved). Netflix support has two options, 'update drivers' or 'update windows'. Very nice. Any leads would be much appreciated.

Hi. This is more of an audio issue but since it's related to the new Z270 chipset Motherboards, I'm gonna post it here. Who got the new motherboards, can you please tell me how the audio works on a 5.1 audio system? Does Speaker Fill/Virtual Surround work properly? 'Cuz on previous audio codecs (I own a H170 with ALC 1150) Speaker Fill does a very poor job. Super-distorted and low sound on the rear speakers and almost no bass. I'm talking about stereo sound like music or youtube. Movies with 6 channels sound work properly. Funny thing: Before, I had an Asus P5QL/EPU Mobo with VIA HD Audio Chipset and it did a perfect job with the Speaker Fill. Loud & Clear sound on all speakers.

Hi. If anyone has a 5.1 or 7.1 audio system, and has a motherboard with Realtek soundcard, then you may know how it works. I have an Asus H170 Pro Gaming motherboard. It's a known issue that for the ALC 1150 codec (z170/h170) and older, the Speaker Fill or Virtual Surround does a very poor job when playing stereo sound (music, youtube). So I'm not talking about 6 channels. That works properly. So for stereo, the sound on the rear speakers and central is very low and distorted, and there's almost no bass either. Even if the surround speakers are set to full-range, nothing changes. Either live with that, or remap all the jacks as Frontal in regedit. But that's not the best solution. Before, I had an Asus P5QL/EPU (2009) which has 8 channels, codec VIA VT1708S. And it worked perfect. When I select Speaker Fill, I hear the music perfectly on all speakers. So I was really surprised that my new motherboard has this issue. I bought this MB because it has 6 audio jacks. Or else I would have bought a cheaper one with 3. And a dedicated sound card. But I didn't know. I contacted Asus, they said that's just how the codec works. Crap codec. Now, the Z270 and H270 motherboards got released and they say it has better sound, but no really much details, just seeing it has the new ALC 1220 audio codec. So who got the new Z270 or H270 Motherboards, can you please tell me if you have perfect sound on all 6 speakers with Speaker Fill? Or is it still low and distorted...

Current best audio codec in motherboards?
Me1bourne posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
What is the best audio codec you can get in mb today? Or can someone rate current codecs out there and sort them from best to worse? Why I'm asking, is because I have a mb with ALC892 and it sounds awfuly compared to my old Creative Titanium HD sound card. I'm using 5.1 speakers and ATH-M50X headphones and difference is just huge when I switch to sound card. I'm planning to upgrade my pc and this is why I'm asking about codecs because I want to add my Titanium to a living room pc and have a similiar sounding codec in a new mb. Thanks -
After more than a year of videos explaining the Linus Media Group workflow and server setups I am wondering why there has not been a video explaining the advantages and disadvantages of H.265? Also, AOMedia Video 1, AV1, codec which has support from some of the largest tech companies in the world including amazon, google, intel and microsoft will apparently have a release date in 2017. Is this something on your radar has a possible solution to simply your professional workflow? I asked a question similar to this about a year ago but I am basically asking again wondering if the landscape has changed in anyway since then, enough so for garner an answer different to "HEVC is too new and youtube doesn't support it". Thank you for the great content.

Greetings. I've been using Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum, and was unsure of what codec I should use for the best quality, and what the tradeoff is in terms of rendering time. All of my projects are rendered at 1920x1080, 24p without exception. I'm aware that some of these codecs are audio-exclusive, and that others are obsolete, such as QuickTime 7. The highest bitrate I can find is 'XDCAM EX', which has 'HQ 1920x1080-24p, 35 Mbps VBR'. I've also found that 'Sony XAVC S' is the only codec that has a pre-configured 4k option. 'MainConcept AVC/AAC' also appears to have a 'Blu-ray 1920x1080-24p, 25 Mbps video stream'. MainConcept MPEG-2' has the same option available. What do you think is the best codec in terms of video quality, filesize efficiency, and compression artefacts? Which are better in terms of compatibility? (I only upload to YouTube and Facebook). If it's any help, I'm running a Core i3-4160 with 8GB of DDR3-1600 RAM and a 2GB GTX 960. Regards, Aereldor.

Hello. I have been using After Effects CS6 for a long time but have not upgraded to CC due to several reasons. Please could anybody here correct me and provide any workarounds for these issues? Issue 1: (RAM) Preview CS6's RAM preview served as a brilliant way to test a short segment of video, but CC's preview renders the frames live so often it doesn't play audio and is not realtime as my PC is not fast enough. Issue 2: Rendering It seems to me that CC has much faster rendering than CS6 for the most part, but the rendering options are... underwhelming. Rendering a 1-minute long video at 1920x1080, 24fps with a CBR bitrate of 6.0 Mbps using CS6's H.264 format produces a video with a filesize of 44.1MB File properties (screenshot) - This video is crystal clear and great quality. Rendering settings (screenshot) Rendering the exact same 1-minute long video at 1920x1080, 24fps with the quality at 100 using CC's Quicktime format and the H.264 codec produces a video with a filesize of 434MB File properties (screenshot) - This video is crystal clear and great quality. Rendering settings (screenshot) I also tried the same thing with the quality set to 50 and it produced a video with a filesize of 80.4MB File properties (screenshot) - Which is a much better filesize with an acceptable quality. However, that is still a decent amount larger than CS6's file, so I tried the same thing with the quality set to 25. This produced a video with a filesize of 46.8MB File properties (screenshot) - This video is watchable, but it's still fairly bad. So with the quality set to 25, the video is fairly low quality and is still a bigger filesize than AE CS6's file. Lowering the quality would make the video look horrific, but increasing the quality would result in even larger filesizes. Of course with a small, 1-minute video the size difference is minimal, but this is going to stack up quickly when working on lengthier videos. So that leaves me asking: How can I work around this new preview tool? What render settings should I experiment with? After Effects CC appears to be much faster and more optimised than CS6 as it's newer, so I wouldn't really like to stay on CS6. Any tips? Thank you kindly in advance!

Hello, like many others i record gaming videos as a hobby. Many things i learned from just looking them up, but there is one thing i don't find much information about. How to archive your projects without loosing too much quality or disk space. Right now i record my gameplay with OBS and throw it, sometimes with footage from my Canon 650d, into premiere CS 6, editing it and exporting it into lagarith lossless for Handbreak encoding. All my videos are 1080p 60fps. Now i would like to safe them in high quality in case i want to do a best of in the future, or need to reupload a video. I'm considering to use a high bitrate/ CRF version of h.264 to keep a small filesize. I already experimented with DNxHD/ DNxHR and the files are deffinetly getting too big to handle. Does anyone have experience with this kind of archiving and can suggest some settings to start on? Or even another free codec i should consider?

Which is better for color correction/grading? I know both can't be pushed too far, but which one can be pushed the furthest in post?

Audio codecs have been disappearing from many high end phones? Go to Bluetoothcheck.com and look at Samsung's or Motorolla's new models. (I even read they removed some codecs from the S9) What is going on and why isnt LTT reporting on it?

I'm just dabbling my feet in the world of video so I use the free version of resolve. Recently, I've learnt of intermediate codecs. However, I haven't found a way to transcode to ProRes, CineForm or DNxHD/HR without spending money on Apple Compressor or Adobe Meda Encoder. I've no idea how to use FFMPEG and I don't think it is going to be easy learning C to use CineForm's open source codec... Help.

I am working on a project that required transcoding bunch of h264 videos into jpeg. I did a test on my own 1050ti gpu, the testing video is 1080p at about 2.5Mbit/s. ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -c:v h264_nvenc output\%05d.jpg The result is about 90 to 100 fps. And now I need to build a server with AMD gpu (considering rx470, 480, 580) The videos would be uploaded from users, not longer then 15 seconds (450frames) I did a little searching, I think h264_amf works with amd gpu? But I dont have a amd gpu on my hand. So let me know how to enable, and how fast RX480 can be. Thanks

Fraunhofer issued a press release that is making a pretty interesting claim, as the h.265 video of yours, can be halved in size, at the same quality. Fraunhofer's successor to H.265/HEVC for encoding would be H.266, also referred to as Versatile Video Coding (VVC) and offers significant improvements. Quotes Improved compression is always better, the only downside is that the increased complexity will require new hardware codecs for GPUs and mobile SOCs. Software encoding/decoding of HVEC is already quite heavy on modern multi-core CPUs and VVC will make it only worse. Hey all, sorry if I do something wrong (first time posting in this forms) but I had a quick question. Is there a way to change the form of encoding since HEVC is able to compress better and it saves a fair bit of space.

I've been having this PC for a while now but I never really had the money to spare and buy a windows original licence (less with the economy of my country) and now I've realized that I can't see the tags and data on my music such as title, artist, album, etc (even though it is activated to show on the file explorer), I was able to solve the problem of not seeing previews on videos by downloading a codec that would display previews on videos, but I haven't been able to find one that would desplay the data on widnows explorer. Do you know of any tool I could use?

I have a 1080p 10-bit movie encoded in HEVC, however my display is of 8-bit color depth. What will happen if I play this using VLC (stock, no settings altered)? If this is going to mess up the colors, what is a possible fix for this? Will the fix make this rip look better than a 8-bit version of the same movie? Also, will re-encoding this rip to 8-bit bring it alongside an original 8-bit rip? My Laptop Specs (if required) - i7 7700HQ GTX 1060 - 6GB 16GB RAM 250 GB SSD

If you're trying to avoid responsibility, this was a fun site see if one can tell the differences between different codecs: https://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2015/06/02/411473508/how-well-can-you-hear-audio-quality

Hello, Whenever I call someone, I can't hear them that clearly which made me think of upgrading my iphone 5s. I learned that calls use special types of codecs and I would like to know what kinds of codecs my phones use. I've just recently gotten into audio and bitrate and I want to learn just how low and bad the bitrate or sample rate really is. -Iphone 4s -Iphone 5s -Iphone 6+ -Samsung Galaxy S8+

So I've been using Handbrake to compress my video files after ripping onto my server. There has got to be a faster option however.... Using Handbrake on every episode in a season takes forever. Thanks guys
