So I'm planning on getting a new pair of headphones for primarily sound design and gaming but I have trouble deciding if I should pick open back or closed back headphones. The headphones I have in mind are the Beyerdynamic Dt 700 Pro X and the Dt 900 Pro X. What are the differences between open back and closed back, which type would you choose and why?

Hello comunity, the reason i ask this question is: I actually own a pair of sennheiser 6xx and im really happy with its performance. But my house most of the time is quite noisy. So i have to use the 6xx at very high volume so i wont be distracted by ambient noise. ( besides the open back design is leaking a lot of my sound) So i want to buy the astro a50 gen 4 or something similar ( doesnt matter if the ofered alternative is wired) because i need a closed back design so i wont get too distracted by noisy ambient sound. But i dont want to sacrifice too much sound quality of the 6xx. PD: i have big head and big ears. So i need something similar to the astro a50 gen 4

Need wireless closed back headphones, Bluetooth. Using with my iPhone 6, Laptop, and possibly some other devices. Closed back preferred, I don't necessarily want noise cancelling tho, I'm not sure about open or closed back.

Hi, I am looking for a new pair of headphones, I would prefer closed back over ear headphones. My budget is $250 USD, but I am willing to spend up to 300 if it is really worth it. I am willing to purchase a DAC and AMP if I need to. I like listening to electronic music. Thank you.

What are some good closed back headphones for gaming? I currently have a HyperX Cloud 2 but want am considering buying new better sounding headphones. I need them to be closed back since i live with other people and open backs would annoy them and i need the noise isolation to block out noise. Are there any closed back headphones that have great sound and great soundstage since i need good soundstage to hear footsteps when playing rainbow six siege

Hi forum... Little background: I'm currently using a Siberia 350, which cable is getting broken ( Like it's getting splitted ). After I time using Headsets, I decided to switch into Headphones. What I require: Headphones that are better or equally as good as my Siberia 350 ( For the microphone I'll decide later, since I can use the one I currently have ). What I have on Scope: Philips SHP9500S - Which doesn't have Sound Isolation Beyerdynamic DT 770 Studio - But goes by MiniJack ( Which is not a bad thing... I think ) Could Anyone give me advice and better perspective? P.S.: Sorry if there was any part where my english was not that good, I'm not a native english speaker. Cheers from Spain ;).

Hi guys, My HyperX Cloud 2 are starting to malfunction after 4 years of service and I'm beginning to search for a replacement. I checked the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO the 32 Ohm variant since will connect them to my Blue Yeti for monitoring my voice (I speak loudly and I have to control myself in games hehe). For me, the Cloud 2 sound fantastic for the price since I bought them for 75€ (sadly I haven't tried a lot of headphones) but since I have a separated microphone, I don't want to buy "gaming" headsets. I'm looking for headphones with: Closed back (I don't live alone and work from home till late at night) Big enough to go around the ears Velour earpads if possible (I live in Spain, lots of heat, I don't want to create a puddle in my ears) Primarily for content consumption and gaming. Price range from 100-250€ but I'm flexible (See next paragraph) After researching the closed back options of Beyerdynamic I saw that MassDrop has the Massdrop X Beyerdynamic DT 177X Go (based on the DT 1770 PRO), which are in a really different price range but also wanted to ask, is it worth it the jump from 100-200€ to 400-450€ for gaming and content consumption? If it's really noticeable for double the price and you have a recommendation, I will really appreciate it. Thanks to all in advance!

I am looking for a good gaming headset or headphone with (mod)mic combination. I am kinda lost in all the different opinions. A lot of people seem to be recommending Cloud 2, but there are also alot of people claiming they are garbage compared to some headphones like m50. However M50 seems to have a bad soundstage which is not what you want when gaming. When it comes to wired vs wireless, quality is more important compared convenience to me. Seems to me wired>wireless in terms of audio quality. What i am looking for is a headset/headphone with fairly good bass and a good soundstage under € 200,-. I am mainly gaming and listening a lot of music in which i like a good bass. EDIT: i prefer over-ear cups and noise isolation. My previous headset was a Logitech G430 which broke. I was hoping you guys could help me out here.

Hello, So, I would like to buy a pair of HiFi Headphones, but this time a closed back one. Right now I have a pair of AudioTechnica ATH-700x, which are open back ones. They are great, but when I'm with someone in the room and that person listens to some music or speaks on the phone, I can hear everything and can't really focus on my music... That's why I would like to try a closed back pair of headphones. For starters, I have a budget of maximum 500$. I don't want to buy a DAC, nor an AMP, yet. In the future, I will consider purchasing them in the future. That's why I think the impedance on the headphones should be between 40-60 ohms. The cans will be mainly used for music and casual gaming. For the moment, in my target are: Shure SRH 1540 HiFiman HE-400i What's your suggestion for me? Should I buy a closed back ones? Do you know any other pair that would be great in this price?

Hi Everyone! I was PMing this to a forum member and thought I could try making a thread about it too. I was wondering if you could give me some recommendations. I have around $500USD and wanted some closed-back, wired headphones. Preferred without a mic. I plays some casual games and listen to electronic music (Dubstep, Nightcore, Trap, etc.). Mostly I want noise isolation, I want to be having a conversation with someone, put these headphones on, and literally hear silence, nothing, strait up mute them. And of coarse I would like them to sound "good", I am not an audiophile but I would like to be able to put these on and and say "wow" every time, whatever you guys would recommend I would be grateful. I have also been told I should get a DAC if I am putting this much money into the sound. If it is worth it I could up my budget to $600 but I really am not sure what I need when it comes to DACs. I do not know if I should be putting $250 into the DAC and $350 into the headphones or everything into the headphones and save for a good DAC later or what. Whatever you guys recommend I would greatly appreciate Thanks a bunch! Your friend Doge

my previous headset broke and I've been trying to find a decent headset for 2 weeks now. i live in Greece. my currency isn't the dollar, it is the euro. please do not be turned off by the last two facts. i'm looking for a closed back headset with a mic that helps someone i'm talking too to understand(the mic doesn't have to be great) i will potentially use the headset for music but mostly for gaming and watching films. my budget is 70 euros or around 100 dollars. i am not an audiophile, so any decent headset will do.

Hi all, I have a pair of Astra A40s that I really like but feel I could do better. Recently one half of the top headband snapped (my fault), still work but I have a birthday soon and want to ask for some headphones. As it's a potential gift price isn't necessarily the biggest issue, but it needs to be 'reasonable' otherwise I won't get it (haha). So I'm looking for some opinions on what to buy. Here are my requirements: 1. Must be fully over ear 2. Must have integrated microphone (I'd prefer not to go down the mod mic route, and my parents definitely would prefer integrated). I'd also prefer if the microphone is retractable/removable however I can deal with that not being the case. 3. Closed back (my A40s are open but I've decided I'd like to go with closed back) 4. Must have good audio for music as well as gaming (I'm not an 'audiophile' but I do enjoy my music better with good quality headphones) 5. Must have phone/laptop compatibility for occassional use. 6. Preferably can fold or something for portability 7. Most importantly - must be comfortable So far my searches have led to the Audio Technica ATH-AG1 ($279) and Sennheiser G4ME Zero ($339, currently on special). This is my understanding of the two products, correct me if I'm wrong: 1. The Sennheisers are more comfortable (Linus' review of the Audio Technicas showed their ergonomics to be particularly bad over due to the weird headband design) 2. The Audio Technicas sound slightly better 3. The Audio Technicas are much, much easier to drive (50Ω vs 150Ω) - and therefore I would NEED to get an amp for the Sennheisers to sound good (whereas for the Audio Technicas I could advance the rest of my sound setup in the future, and for now I would still have good quality audio). 4. The mic implementation (talking about ergonomics/looks, not quality) is better on the Sennheisers, with lift to mute etc. 5. The Sennheisers have an onboard volume wheel (something I like), which the Audio Technicas don't. Please recommend any other headphones that you think would be good. All in all, I prefer the Sennheiser G4ME Zeros, however I'm worried about their very high impedance of 150Ω and the need for an Amp to drive them - especially because I would want the option of using them on the go with a laptop or phone. If this is true, then I'd need to consider recommending an amp. I want an amp that I can use with my iPhone on the go (although this may become an HTC One M8 in the future, so something with compatibility for both is ideal), but also with my PC (until I get a proper desktop amp at some point - if I even need it). I've seen a couple of options, some are just amps and some are DACs and amps. How necessary is the DAC part? Any suggestions? Here are the ones I've found: 1. Fiio E11K Kilimanjaro2 Amp ($79.99) - Most affordable, has everything I need (assuming it can handle the 150Ω), and I like that it is portable with a battery life up to 16hrs and USB recharging. 2. Fiio E12 Mont Blanc Amp ($129.00) - More expensive, probably a better amp - but also has a shorter battery life (?) 3. Fiio E07K Andes DAC + Amp ($99.00) - Between the first two, includes a DAC and a very long battery life of up to 80(!) hours. However, it doesn't state any phone compatibility 4. Fiio E17 Alpen DAC + Amp ($139.00) - Most expensive, also includes a DAC and has a shorter battery life than the E07K. Also doesn't state phone compatibility. Out of these, which would work best for use with my phone, and which would work best for use with my desktop? Also, if you have any other suggestions readily available in Australia, let me know. Thanks for reading my long post, I'll appreciate any help I can get. P.S. I'm in Australia. I'd prefer to have availability in a retail shop in my hometown (Adelaide), however this is pretty unrealistic (even for a city of 1.3 million, we seem to have no high end stuff available as far as I can work out) so I'd like a well respected website to buy from. PCCaseGear and Addicted to Audio are preferable. If you're in Australia, I'm open to recommendations.
