Summary Ylva Johansson – the EU Commissioner in charge for the Chat Control Bill proposal basically does not understand how encryption works, when introducing the law for scanning the content of the encrypted communication for child sex material. Quotes My thoughts Well she has been into family and schools for a long time and maybe she meant good [The road to hell is paved with good intentions]. I think she sees encryption as something that only criminals use and has a bad attitude towards it. She does not understand how it works, or at least did not fully understand it when someone explained to her. Even if she knew how it works, such a law will not solve the problem. And why was only Signal attacked? Does it mean that Meta and Skype are already scanning? What will stop the people from sending password-protected zip files through any messengers? So wrong on so many levels. I do see it as another try to implement the total "surveillance for the masses". A Third Party's Look At The Nintendo Switch's Phone-Based Voice Chat Is A Technological Monstrosity | Forbes 'Splatoon 2' voice chat leaves us asking: What exactly is Nintendo smoking? | Mashable I seriously need to know why the majority at Nintendo thought a solution like this is good. For a game console that's supposed to be good for portability and on-the-go stuff, this set up is the complete opposite. Not only that, a setup like this won't work when the console is docked, unless you buy extension cables, dongles, etc. When you're on the go, you're set up has to be clean. When you're working with a laptop at a coffee shop or somewhere in public, you don't want wires surrounding you. It's hard to keep track and it's plain messy. If they think that offloading chat will save battery, then I'd prefer having battery banks charging the console than this solution. This is 2017. Something like voice chat on a game console should be part of the device. Especially if you want customers to pay for your online services. Nintendo better explain themselves soon. Cuz this is plain stupidity.

Hello, Fellow Techies, I am in desperate need of help and I actually have a $20 Bounty on the Table for the first person to give me an actual work Solution for my Ongoing Problem... I use my Condensor XLR Microphone through a Focusrite 6i6 USB Audio Interface which is connected to my Windows 10 PC w/ an Intel 7700k CPU, GTX 1070 GPU, and 16 Ram, which has my ELGATO HD60s Capture Card connected to it which is also coming from my PlayStation 4. When I am recording live audio or Voiceovers for my Videos and Streams I am A OK.. The problem comes about when I am playing online on my PS4 in a Party with friends like when we do our PS_Lovers Community Game Nights and we are in PS4 Party Chat. I should be able to also record my friend's voices as well as mine using the ELGATO CAPTURE LINK Cable that I purchased extra but I have yet to be able to figure out the correct combination of connections and settings and programs to use to correctly get all of this to work. Like I said i have a $20 PSN Card up for grabs for the Person who is able to help me record Party Chat using all of the components mentioned like I am supposed to be able to. If I used a USB Microphone like a Blue Yeti or Snowball then I wouldn't have this problem, I have seen videos how to set something like that up but because I am using a USB Audio Interface I am not able to get this all to work so i can also record my Party Chat which is very important to me for my future videos.. Please Help Linus Tech Tips Community... p.s. Yes I have already Google Searched this and watched many YouTube videos and still no luck..

So, about a year ago, I lost a very strange bet, so I kind of had to write some code that saved all the twitch chat messages from the WAN show. Now that's happened for a year, the graphic shows pretty much what I found. There's a few weeks missing because I forgot about it, but most weeks are recorded. All of the archived messages can be downloaded as well. Whether this keeps happening now YouTube is taking over the WAN show, maybe, but probably not. I still don't really know why I agreed to this....... and, yes, I did call the code 'wanalyse' WAN Show 0917-0818.zip

Any good encrypted video, voice, and messaging programs out there?
Guest posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
So I was wondering if there any alternatives to Skype in terms of the messaging program market that also encrypt your communications (and that is available for MacOS as well as Windows)? I found Adium, which is an OTR chat client, but it's bad for file transfers, as in: you cannot transfer files successfully in my experience AND it does not work with Facebook chat. I found uTox and qTox (and even the alpha mobile developer version for iOS via TestFlight, though it is offline now and the developers say they will role out a final version in August), but each seems to be in its own state of incompleteness: uTox, while free and easy to start up and use (with encrypted video and voice calling as well as messaging), lacks the ability to change the profile photo and seems to be loose on security when it comes to the end user: a friend could open it up and chat away or see my chat logs! qTox, while free and pretty much operating in the same way as uTox, has a broken video calling system where it will not remember user preferences for webcam quality, causing the local video feed to test webcam quality to lock up and freeze at 720p and 1080p, which the webcam (and computer) should be able to handle just fine, given that I've used it to talk at these qualities with other people on Skype and Google Hangouts! So, alas, I am at the mercy of you who are more tech and program savvy than I am! Tell me of programs that I may use to solve the conundrum of encryption and video, voice, and IMs in one program. Thanks!-

Hello! I think it would be pretty cool if the LTT forums had a chat room. The reason I say this is because on this gaming forum https://starmadedock.net/ they have a chat function https://starmadedock.net/chat/. Comopared to other forums that lack chat I really feel less connected with the community as I don't get the live feedback when interacting with eachother which I did get on that forum. Therefor I propose that one has one on LTT forums as well

Hi guys I am wondering what software to use for voice chat in games like World of Tanks, Battlefield 4,3 CS GO and so? Can people in game without software hear me with that software?
-
While I know this would be difficult, I still feel like I should try. I currently have a bot that I use for my Twitch chat, with a host of your general meme commands, but a few users have requested a command that pulls the local time (including timezone) of the user that executed the command. I have seen this done, but only in a stream that I was in for five minutes Would anyone have any idea of how to accomplish this? The bot is written in Java and has its own VPS. Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Is there an official/Unofficial LTT Discord Server?
-
JOIN HERE: https://discord.gg/ymCkcFx PLEASE READ Since the recent popularity gain of Discord many unofficial Linus Tech Tips servers have been made by community members. These servers are a great place for the LTT community to talk and chat in a more personal manor than on the forum. Unfortunately, there are many problems with these servers. For a start, there is not one LTT server that everyone can join, no, there are many with different users in each and someone must pick from one of these servers. Second, a lot of these servers have weird or unofficial names making them harder to find and taking away some of the sense of the LTT community. Some of these servers can also be awkward or difficult to join requiring the user to PM a forum member to receive an invite which in some cases can deter users altogether. Thirdly, Some of these servers have little or no moderation and/or a lack of proper staffing allowing spam and just making the server an unfriendly place in general which again can deter users. Finally, these servers have very little or no connection with the forum and the LMG crew, possibly reducing traffic on the forum or donations to our favorite guys over at LMG. I plan to change this now. From today there will be an OFFICIAL UNOFFICIAL LTT PUBLIC DISCORD SERVER. The server invite link will always be available on the LTT forum and on this thread for anyone who wishes to join the server as well as being made available on public Discord server lists such as here. The server will be moderated by proper staff who are regulated and always online. Bots will make sure there is no spamming on the server and will keep the server in check as well as cool features such as levels which reward users with higher ranks. You can become a staff member instantly if you are staff on the forum (message me) or apply and tell us why you should be our staff! Any member of the LMG or LTT team who joins the server will instantly be promoted to the LMG Staff role (LMG Staff message me) and will be displayed at the top of the user list as well as receiving a unique color to stand out from the crowd in chat. The server will have links to the official LTT forum as well as custom commands to donate to the LMG team quickly. Not only this but server members will receive notifications whenever Linus goes live on Twitch (no matter how late WAN Show is). In the future I hope to make this server official to further increase its user base. I hope to see a lot of you on the server soon and to constantly make this community better. JOIN HERE: https://discord.gg/ymCkcFx TL;DR All other LTT discord servers are below par. This one is good. Join. If the join link stops working at any time please message me and I will fix it as soon as possible!

It's been a very long time since I switched over to Skype. I started using Skype in '07 when I was no longer able to use iChat (got rid of the mac back then. Also miss features from iChat that still have not appeared within any other chat/voip client. iChat theater anyone?). It's getting long in the tooth and it's been a pain to use it for gaming and anything other than screen sharing and file sharing. Group chat doesn't always work either. What would be a suitable replacement for Skype that also has a good mobile client?
-
Taken from the latest client update change notes Thats a huge change, it means random users can no longer send you chat messages. Although I don't see if having any impact on Phishing as thats mostly done via friends of the phished account anyway. Thoughts and opinions?

I like the WAN Show, it's great. Even with it's constant technical issues, and the fact that it rarely starts 'on time' it tends to be great. Though most of the time it has news and info I heard earlier in the week, getting a different perspective on it is great. As well as the fact that Linus and Luke are are often able to go into more detail on a story with some technical knowledge or experience related to the topic. It is worth waiting for, whether it starts on time, or 20+ minutes late. But I think it can be better A bad part about the WAN Show is Twitch Chat. Twitch chat unfortunately in most cases, across most channels is a shit show. It is consistent of people posting ASCII art of Hitler or genitalia and what not, or people spamming the same useless text or message over and over in some vain attempt to be noticed on the internet. A big part of why this happens is that these channels are have no moderation, or very little. That coupled with the fact that productive members of chat rarely get acknowledged on-air causes a reduction in those people participating in the chat and making it positive and useful. As things currently stand it's not reasonable to expect Luke or Linus to do that because chat goes by so fast that it's barely worth reading for anyone that is an active part of the WAN Show's production, let alone other viewers in the chat. Here's where actual moderation comes into play, and it does not take much at all. This is an example for a channel I moderate (along with other moderators) And I should say right now. I am not campaigning to be a mod on the WAN Show. I am not around often enough for that to be reasonable, I have not proven myself in any way shape or form in regards to the LTT Community, and in the end, anyone can do this; 1. use R9KBeta: This command will prevent any user from posting a message containing the exact same text within 10 seconds of the same message being posted by themselves or anyone else. For example Bob notices that the WAN Show is late to start. So he says 'LinusLateTips' Jeff either notices this too, or notices what Bob said and tries to post the exact same thing; Twitch chat tells his message is too similar to another one. Jeff gets annoyed for a few second and is forced to use his brain and actively participate. This process is fairly passive. Jeff is most likely going to wait a bit longer, thing of something similar to say,and possibly more relevant and the fact that he said something different will encourage other people to ether talk directly to him, or about the new topic he started. For example, after Bob sends his message to chat, Jeff says 'I wonder why Linus is late so often, and why the intro sound is disabled, do they have a noise gate they don't know how to work?" Then Jeff and other members of chat are involved in a discussion about noise gates and streaming tech as they wait for the show to start. The majority of the arguments against R9KBeta are 'I can't say what I want to say' and the response to that is that 'If someone said it 10 seconds before you did in the exact same text, then it's not worth hearing, because it was already heard. Think it over and share a new perspective, be an active and mindful participant in the community. 2. Use Slow Mode This one is self explanatory in what it does, but it's use is massively underestimated in it's effectiveness. The channel I assist in moderating streams for an average of 7 hours on each stream 4 to 5 days every weak. Sometimes those streams go on for 9 hours. It's a gaming related stream, and on most streams maximum viewership peaks at 10,000 viewers and there are usually still 6000 left when the stream ends (which i usually at 3AM PST). It is often regarded as one of the most productive, welcoming and positive communities on all of Twitch and in the history of Twitch. This was occurring long before I even started watching it, let alone become a mod of it. The second biggest contributor to this is the usage of slow mode. Keep in mind that this channel is partnered and can easily be put into subscriber mode (I'll go into that next). All we do on most nights is do a quick judgement call based on how many people are present and how fast chat is moving and the basic guideline we follow is this: Is chat moving too fast for the channel host to follow and engage with his community? We watch him on screen and if we see his eyes darting back and forth between the game and chat, we can tell his trying to follow and having trouble so we slow it down without a word to or from him. Most of the time we have slow mode set to 30 seconds. Even with 10,000+ people present. It is very impressive how much forcing a person to think about what their saying for 30 seconds will change the dynamic of a discussion, allow for host to community engagement, and overall have a positive impact on the community. The usage of R9KBeta and Slow Mode set to a mere 30 seconds has an active group of ten thousand people in chat all having positive discussions among each other with almost no bickering or insulting occurring, and most of those are immediately resolved among the participants because the time they have to wait to talk again causes them to evaluate their words and the words of others. We as channel moderators rarely have to even say a word or lift a finger. The problem i solved in brief time it took for us to notice it. In 2 months I have had to perma-ban one single person for posting a link to an adult website and timeout another person for spamming a name in caps (he wanted the streamer to play as a certain character). Otherwise my actions have consisted of setting the amount of seconds applied to slow mode, enabling or disabling R9KBeta in certain cases, and preparing / posting straw polls in chat. 3. Straw Poll Straw poll is used often on the WAN Show, however just as often viewers are asked to spam "1" or "2" to indicate a choice. This is absolutely horrible and encourages bad behavior (spamming for example) A host asking people to spam a number is a clear indicator that they cannot follow chat and therefore they have lost control of the chat. If they are doing a live show and they lose control of their audience they have lost engagement. Keep control at all times. This is simply done by making people think about what their saying. Always use a polling service when soliciting the opinions of your viewership. StrawPoll is often the best choice because either the hosts or moderators can set it up and share the link within seconds. 4. Subscriber Mode The Wan Show does not have a subscriber button, however because it has all other partnered features it isn't exactly a hidden fact that this could be gained by Linus simply contacting Twitch, asking for it and immediately receiving it. If he asks for it, it will be given to him; that's a given. And if that happens that's great. It's extra revenue to provide higher quality videos more coverage, and if necessary, pay the salary of more staff, be they related to the WAN Show or any other facet of LTT/LMG. As to the usage of Subscriber Mode, using it sparingly is it's most effective use, and using it as a tool and not a thread or a method of disclusion (I made that word up) is it's most effective use. For example the channel I assist in moderating rarely uses subscriber mode. The only two times it is ever used is if the channel gets hosted and raided and we (as moderators) need to quickly re-establish control. In these cases because the existing community is so positive often all we have to do is turn it on for about 5 minutes and existing subsribers will continue talking and provide a few details for the newcomers who can't chat. Usually just forcing them to view the flow of discussion from current community participants is enough for them to get a handle on how conversation flows in the channel and they almost immediately become positive participants. Newcomers are frequently surprised by how orderly and positive discussion is in spite of so many people being present and sub mode being off most of the time. The second occurrence it gets used in is if the channel owner is playing an anticipated game or a game with some sort of new content or anticipated update. This attracts more viewers however it attracts more trolls. When the stream starts he advises the community that we will start in subscriber mode and apologizes for it. Why does he apologize? Because as he puts it every single time; 'It stops a lot of you really awesome people from talking to me and everyone else, and maybe you just can't subscribe, but you come here every night and support us just be watching. So I hate cutting you off like this" He then follows by reassures them that it is only temporary and the mods will be taking it out of slow mode multiple times to keep a handle on things and let more people talk as they (we) weed out the trolls. While the flow of his 'shows are different he regularly manages to engage directly with his community in spite of having 10,000+ people present on most nights. It is amazing how powerful it is to have someone mention you or another person watching the stream in a direct manner, and regularly. This does happen on the wan show however due to the fact that chat is an uncontrolled mess there. It does not happen as often as it could, or should. and this could easily change with two simple commands: /r9kbeta /slow 30 Usually after that you barely have to touch anything. If anyone from LMG is interested in knowing what this mysterious channel I keep referring to is, send me a private message here. I am intentionally not linking to it because I don't want to come across as advertising for him. If you find the time you can check out his stream when it's live and see how incredibly effective the moderation is, and how positive and engaged the community is in spite of it's size. The WAN Show is awesome. but it can be be better, and it should be better, and this can be accomplished easily. As always, I am looking forward to the next show. LMG is awesome. Thank you for all who took the time to read this incredibly long opinion.

So i am creating a ticket system from scratch (i know about ostickets) and have all done apart from a working chat log. Currently the chat log works however doesnt auto refresh when a comment is sent. <textarea disabled class="form-control" rows="15" name="TicketLog"><?php echo $TicketLog;?></textarea> This is the current code, the $TicketLog is a return from a sql query. Would it be possible to every 5secs update the contents with the sql query? Here is a look at the view:

Do you use Google's Hangouts which integrates with SMS & Gmail or do you prefer Facebook Messenger to get everybody, even your mom onboard? Maybe you use something else like LINE, Skype, Viber or Slack! Tell me. I try to use Facebook Messenger myself because I get free unlimited chat data with my carrier and all of my friends and family are using it. It's great, but I'd like SMS integration or something more!
