Hi Forum! I have done quite a bit of searching, but no one seems to have this problem, or even a similar problem. Going to do my best not to ramble. Specs: I built this computer almost two years ago now with; I7 7700K running base clock EVGA GTX 1070 Black Edition @ 110% power limit Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz ram Msi Z270 Gaming pro motherboard 256gb intel 600p nvme m.2 drive SF450 Corsair PSU 80+ Gold Problem: I am getting low and inconsistent frame rates out of my GTX 1070 in games. I will use Rocket League (RL) for this example.I usually run RL upwards of 75fps. I have it capped because my monitor runs at 75hz. Sometimes, and more often more recently, the game will load and I will average a value under that. Usually 30 fps. I have discovered that is I alt+tab and then Tab back into the game the number will change. Sometimes it will 'fix' itself and run higher than 75, other times it will change to another value, like an average of 50 or 20 fps. It does similar thing for a few other games I play and I can't seem to work out the cause. It has been running beautifully until recently, wasn't happening 3 weeks ago. What I have attempted. Removed and re-installed the latest driver from Nvidia (using Geforce experience and without). Uninstalled the Graphics card and re-installed it. Re-seated the graphics card and double checked power connectors. Changed power limit back to 100%. (Lowers the frame rate anyway..) I also have let MSI Afterburner run in the background of a game to check for anomalies (I couldn't see any, cpu, gpu usage and temps look fine, screenshot below). Next steps My next area of attack is running in safe mode disabling all but essential programs and the game and see if there is a difference, if there is then working my way through by cutting the list in half each time till something happens. Theory: While 450W PSU is low for this config, yes, but it is theoretically fine. I don't have much headroom, but I have had no troubles before. This is my main video editing rig and it (usually) powers through games and renders fine. This performance issue also hasn't happened in the almost 2 years I have been running this rig, only in the last 3-2 weeks. My theory is the PSU is dying and as usual. The graphics card is the main symptom. Thoughts or suggestions? Now a recent change I made to the system was enabling G-sync compatible with my 38" acer predator Ultrawide monitor. The issue began happening soon after I turned it off because I was getting black screens for 2-5 seconds at a time during games when it was on. This is all the information I have collected and think is necessary to put in to this post. Thanks for the help in advance forum! You guys are great.

I re-pasted GTX 1080 armor OC 8gb today with Arctic Silver 5 and after 2 hours of play (roughly 3 after re paste) i found out my temps were worse on Overwatch by like 5 degres or so from an average of 60c to 65c-66c. I Read some articles on it, is it possible my tim needs to “cure” first? Please let me know of any possible ways this may have happened.

Hi guys, I am swapping out my motherboard and my cpu. I am essentially tampering tampering with a motherboard and cpu for the first time because I my current build was assembled for me by the shop. In the past I have done some add ins to my pc like changing the stock cooling to aio. I would feel more assured of doing this if you guys could provide me with some pointers I should be taking note of when changing the motherboard and cpu. I am keeping the rest of the parts the same. Info about parts: Old parts: Intel i5 6400 with MSI B150 gaming m3 mobo and Corsair H60 AIO New parts: AMD Ryzen 3600 with MSI B450 Tomahawk max while using the same old Corsair H60 AIO. would be glad if you could provide me with some pointers I should be taking note of while doing this for example if theres anything crucial i should know transitioning from intel to amd other than the physical changes of the chips and like things I have to do software wise? I am using the same hardrives so the OS and drivers are going to be the same until i install the new ones. Thanks in advance.

Hello Recently I got a new monitor (Samsung C24F396FH) and I have a problem. Whenever I launch any game the colors change a little bit. For example light gray turns to white. It's pretty good for gaming but when I turn off the game or alt tab the colors won't change again to normal. I need to change the resolution, refresh rate or somehow restart the monitor and there isn't anything to turn off this color change in settings.

Hey guys, like the title already says: I'm looking for a new CPU and a Motherboard. Sometimes I've got the feeling that my CPU is slowing down my graphics card but I'm not sure. I mostly use my PC for playing games so it should be something powerful when it comes to gaming. Now I have: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T BE @ 3,3GHz Asus Motherboard M5A78L/USB3 and a Gainward GeForce GTX 970 Phantom You can find the rest of my system at my profile if necessary. I'm open for every kind of CPU and a fitting Motherboard for it. (Already thought about changing to Intel) So I hope some of you could help me and make suggestions. Btw I'm new here and I'm German. So I am sorry for bad language and any communication problems which I hope we won't have

Whenever I launch an application such as a game my microphone input volume in the Windows control panel changes even if I disable "Give exclusive mode applications priority" This is rather frustrating because my friends can't hear me a lot of the time unless I frequently go back to the control panel and change the input level back up to 80ish.. How can I get applications to stop messing with my mic volume.?

So after changing your motherboard, what do you do? Will your system just boot to the bios and require a fresh windows install? If not, do you just have to download your new motherboard drivers? Thanks!

Is there a way I can change my laptop monitor's 60Hz refresh rate to 30Hz or 48Hz? I want to play games desperately and I'm willing to play them at a console's 30fps level. I have a 1366x768 monitor and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 230m.

Alright, to preface this I just want to say that I'm a computer noob. So, I would like to add an additional 8gb to my already existing 8gb of RAM. I have 2x4gb sticks of Kingston Hyper X Fury and I was wondering if I was to buy another 8gb of Kingston Hyper X Fury would it be all well and good? If it matters: I have an Asrock Z97M anniversary motherboard. Thanks in advance -Ethan

Alright. I have searched everywhere for a Totourial and I haven't found anything on this. If you have used the g502 before with the software, you would have noticed the dpi lighting changes to green when you tune the mouse to your mouse pad. I was wondering if a good coder has learnt to code the driver to make that green permanent. There is probably a way because you activate the lighting from the driver and the green is also activated from it so if you could find a way to make that green perminent that would be great. This is for all good coders

Hello, I need some advice on my current network. My ISP installed a Thomson TG784n router at my home. Frankly, this thing is slow it hurts. Entering its own GUI is a pain, and it take ages to change the wireless channel. I wanted to have a FTP server at home, so I put together the two things and bought a Xiaomi Mi Router. It is a AC1200 router with a built-in 1TB HDD, that runs a custom version of OpenWRT, which can run applications on it and it is very customizable. The firmware gets update, at least, one time per month. The only problem is that the GUI is in Chinese only, but Google Chrome helps me on translating everything automatically. My ISP uses VLAN tagging in order to prioritize the packets - to increase quality on IPTV and VoIP - and has a system behind the ONT that catches and memorizes the MAC address. It is a DHCP server, but the IP address only change on a couple of months basis. The MAC address issue can be worked around, since there is a link to unlock the current MA address, and the system will lock the new one automatically. But what about VLAN tagging?! My question is: Can I connect the Xiaomi Mi Router directly to the ONT, and then connect the Thomson to it through LAN? Or will I have problems with the VLAN tagging or IGMP snooping? This way I would not need the Thomson to access the internet, making things more direct.

Hello My name is Simon I have just bought a new motherboard for my gaming system. When I was about to changing the motherboards I discovered that I do not know if I need to add some new cooler paste onto the CPU, and the CPU cooler, or if I can use the existing cooler paste which is already on there......? The cooler I am using is just a simple and basic Intel CPU cooler, I do not know the name, since I did not myself assemble the computer, the only think I know is that it is a basic Intel CPU cooler. I hope that you guys will be able to help, since I would like to know this, before I try to install the motherboard

Hello everyone. I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU. Myy current one is Asus AMD Radeon HD 7770. It is a good card from the performance perspective but because of the 1GB memory it has, it tends to crash. Now I'm thinking of getting the Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9 280. It's got 3 gigs of memory so I believe it will decrease the crashing. Now the main question is: Should I just add the card and have these two cards or should I change the card completely? And if you think I should change it completely, how. (uninstalling old drivers, BIOS settings, etc.) And if you suggest having a dual card configuration what needs to be done in that case? (if even possible with two different cards) And if you suggest a different card, I'll take in all suggestions if the price stays under 200 euros. Thank you for your help.

Not too long ago I saw a guy who was showing his favourite PC games on youtube, his desktop screensaver would keep changing. Does anybody know how you can do this? I don't want to have to use a program that I need to leave open all the time. However if I have to I will.

Do PC part prices usually change a lot on Scan or on other websites for that matter? I have been looking at a Twin Frozr GTX 770 and it's price has been going up and down for the last few months now. It even drops by like only £1 sometimes which I thought is kinda weird. Thanks, Blueprint

I think it’s because of my experience, but the forum for me has been starting to feel like a smaller, calmer social media. SU’s have a big part, but especially Off Topic has become like the bulletin board of the forum. This is going to be a long read, so I’ll have a TL:DR at the end. The LTT forum is and will always be about tech. Like the sub-forums Tech News, General Discussion, etc really emphasize on, “Yeah, this is a tech forum.” But then, you get the other sub-forums that make you think that, “Wait, am I sure that this is all tech?” For example, Off Topic, Member Reviews, (kinda) and especially, the My Feed section. The My Feed section really feels like Stories on Instagram. It’s basically your own area to post (almost) whatever you want. You could post a rant, a meme, or even a paragraph saying that eating rice with chopsticks is wrong! (I haven’t seen that last one nor do I want to see it.) Speaking of posting almost whatever, do you want an area where almost everyone can see your rant on that the LTT forum is now social media? Welcome to Off Topic! Off Topic like I said in the beginning, is like the bulletin board that everyone posts funny memes and some tech-related stuff. This is kind of why I like this forum so much. It gives you flexibility. Want to talk about tech? Go to General Discussion! Want to talk about a meme that died months ago? (Looking at you Sus.) Go to Off Topic or your Feed! I get it, it’s primary a tech forum, but this flexibility to funny and still stay on topic, it’s great! In conclusion, the forum is starting to feel like a social media because of the flexibility you get and that you don’t always need to talk about tech. Ok, now I need to start that rant on rice and chopsticks. TL:DR: LTT forum is starting to feel like a small social media, and I like it.
