  1. I am assuming the CFM and pressure increases, but is it additive, multiplicative, is there a point of diminishing returns?
  2. I know a positive pressure in you case can help kwep the inside clean, but more air flow usally mean that you are removing heat better.
  3. So while I was planning my pc, I just found this fan which I've never heard of and claims to generate 308CFM of airflow (which is somewhat insane), is this just the best fan that nobody talks about? (this is twice as much airflow as Noctua's best fan to give an idea) here's the fan (at the top) https://pcpartpicker.com/products/case-fan/#sort=-cfm&page=1
  4. Been looking at a future build and I've run into an issue, kind of. In my new system, I'll hopefully the Corsair Crystal 570X Mirror case that can fit a 360mm radiator. This Fractal Design AIO specifically. Chose it just for the looks and most AIO's perform the same. The problem is the fans. Been looking at my favorite brands that make fans, Noctua and be quiet! Between the silent wings and P12 redux. The thing is, I also want RGB, especially if I'm buying a mirrored case, that would be a wasted opportunity. In that case I'm considering the Corsair iCUE fans or if I want to stick with the fans that come with the AIO and save myself money, the same Fractal Design fans. Shame the RGB fans have the worst values in terms of everything, lower airflow at higher noise levels. Do I need to ditch the RGB fans to ensure cooling or will they do fine? The thing is, is this different actually noticeable? Will I hear the difference of 5dB when the fans are inside the case? Will this "10 CFM" make a difference or is it something die hard airflow enthusiasts will only notice when they overclock their systems to the max. Staying on the title, is there a tier list? Maybe even taking other things into account like ease of installment and so on?
  5. I am in the process of planning a build and have fell deep into the rabbit hole on the cooling aspect. Hence the probably way too in-detail post. I apologize if I scare you off with this wall of text and deeply appreciate anyone who replies with advice. As this question applies to both water cooling (CPU & GPU) AIOs and case fans I have submitted this query to both Air & Liquids forum boards in hope of reaching a wider audience as I have seen posts on AIOs in both. Question: I am looking at replacing the stock fans on both the case and AIOs with something quieter/better performing. At the end of my post are the specs for all fans (stock & considered). First question being, what option below will provide best cooling performance for the CPU while maintaining a low db level? Options: [1] Kraken X52 (240mm) - 2 fans in Pull, Exhausting Top - 146CFM/5.86mm-H20 (with stock fans) [2] Kraken X52 (240mm) - 4 fans in Push/Pull, Exhausting Top - 293CFM/11.72mm-H20 (with stock fans) [3] Kraken X62 (280mm) - 2 fans in Pull, Exhausting Top - 196CFM/5.42mm-H20 (with stock fans) My case has a removable Radiator Bracket on top (hence why I plan to place the radiator on top in exhaust) and I plan to mod the top bracket to allow for option 2 if needed. I have done enough research to know that option 3 is better than option 1 as there is more surface area for cooling. I also know that option 2 is better than option 1 due to increased static pressure and flow due to more fans. I also know that 120mm fans are better at static pressure when trying to achieve low db levels and I want to stay low as possible (20db-30db) Second question is how much would I improve or hurt performance if I changed the fans? I am looking at replacing the stock NZXT AER P 120mm on the Kraken X52 with the be quiet! BL070. That would gain me 200 higher max RPM / equal CFM / 0.44 higher mm-H2O / 7.4 lower db. This seems like a no brainer. However the Kraken X62 is another story. After looking at be quiet!, Corsair, EKWB, Fractal Venturi, NZXT, & Phanteks I can't seem to find a fan with good static pressure and low db. (I know you can't have your cake and eat it too but I am going to try my best) Only one fan I found beat the static pressure of the stock Aer P 140mm and that was the Corsair ML140 which had 0.3 more mm-H20 but equal CFM and db levels. The closest quiet fan is the be quiet! BL071 which would lose me 200 max RPM / 20 less CFM / 0.55 less mm-H2O but gain me 9.9 lower db. Would it be worth the performance hit to drop nearly 10db? Again, the fan spec chart is below for comparison. If anyone can provide a make and model of a fan that can get me something better please do so. My third question would be on positive versus negative air pressure in the case. I know that positive is best to help prevent dust from seeping in the cracks, but also to balance it so there is a good amount of airflow. With this in mind, is Flow (CFM) the only value to look at (other than db) or should I still consider the Static Pressure (mm-H2O) since I will be pulling air in from a meshed intake? If I swapped out the 3 stock Phanteks PH-140SP with their 82.1CFM/1.33mm-H2O used for intake (1 Fan-Back & 2 Fans-Front)(246CFM/4mm-H20 combined) and use both the be quiet! BL071 with 77.57CFM/2.16mm-H20 (1 Fan-Back) & the BL070 with 73.3CFM/3.4mm-H20 (3 Fan-Front)(298CFM/12.3mm-H20 combined) for intake, it would be a 52CFM/8.3mm-H20 increase to change from stock Phanteks to be quiet! with a 9.1 db decrease as well. That’s great, but is still only 5 SCFM more than the option 2 exhaust. Would that be enough difference if option two provided to be the best solution? Fourth question is about the GPU radiator. Should I put my 120 radiator for the GPU on front infeed(Pull) or back exhaust(Pull)? If I put it in the back I'll lose the 140mm BL071 fan to a 120mm BL070 fan and lose 4.27CFM leaving with me with almost no case pressure. Also, if I do front I would have room to do Push/Pull as well. Is it worth the extra heat dissipation to have a 3 stack (fan|rad|fan) in the front of my case and have a harder time cleaning the radiator? Last question; am I overthinking any or all of this, & why? Background: I will be building in a ENTHOO EVOLV ATX TG Case. I plan to use either the NZXT Kraken X52 or 62 to cool my CPU. I will be using either a 1080 or 1080Ti. For a 1080 I would go with the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Hybrid. I am hoping for a water cooled 1080Ti, but such a thing has not been revealed yet. The mobo is a ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO with support for 5 PWM connections and the case comes with a PWM HUB that control up to 6 fans (reading only the RPM of FAN1). The Kraken supports 4 PWM fan connections. I would prefer all PULL configurations with fans and radiators as I have researched that this allows for easier cleaning with what dust does infiltrate the case. Please keep in mind when replying that this is my first large ($$$) build and I do not feel comfortable attempting a custom loop (as sexy as they can look). I also am not looking to go the EKWB predator route or anything similar. Thanks again for any advice or support you can give. Fan Chart Brand Model Size RPM CFM mm-H2O db Phanteks PH-F140SP 140 1200 82.10 1.33 19.0 NZXT Aer P 120 2000 73.11 2.93 36.0 NZXT Aer P 140 1800 98.17 2.71 38.0 be quiet! 7. im planning to mod some vega 64s. basic idea is to remove obstructions from the inside like the fan and various metal bits. then force air through a duct at the end of the cards, like a server.im planning to put the LC BIOS on the cards to get the highest possible performance. have no idea if ill be able to get to 1700mhz though.noise isnt a concern, this is for 3D rendering work. all that matters is the maximum performance i can get out of it while at reasonable temperature, for as little money as possible.the best 80mm fan I can find does 132CFM.https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/delta-electronics/PFC0812DE-SP04/603-1166-ND/1850535the best 92mm fan I can find does 175CFM.http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/depf92drhisp.htmlthe best 120mm fan I can find does 252CFM.http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/de12pfexhisp.htmlusing 80mm fans would make the shroud design a lot easier, but will 132CFM be enough to keep the cards cool (im aiming for under 70degs)?also, do I need to do anything for the VRMs, like those mini heatsinks? people like Steve from gamers nexus have said its fine just to leave them on air, but actually hardcore overclocking said they need heatsinks. they are clearly both very well read on the subject, so I don't know who's right.also also, from reading the power requirements, im guessing a standard mobo fan header wont be able to handle these. so my main question is what should I use to power and control one of these fans? and what should i use to power 2 of these fans, if i find out 1 isnt enough.
  8. I want to discuss this because it could be a valuable tool for someone who is not clear when choosing fans for a certain case. This way all they would need to know is how much air they need to move against the volume of the case they choose. From there they can choose size and number with relation to the aesthetic they are aiming for. Here is the question. Mid towers with a basement usually have less than 1 CF of volume within the space where the motherboard and their components would be. Not taking into account restrictions like stacked mesh filters and restrictive front panels. I believe having a 60 CFM fan on intake as well as exhaust should be sufficient to replace the volume of air within the case every second. Or at least that's what the math tells me ( on a case with 1cubic foot of volume ). It sounds too good to be true in my opinion, there must be something I'm missing. Now the second question is this. If I have two fans on intake, not stacked both with 60 cfm of airflow. I have one fan on exhaust with the same 60 cfm of airflow. To my understanding I'm still only pushing 60 cfm on intake as well as exhaust. Although I have read that this could be slightly more, something like 80 CFM.
  9. IMAGE : https://imgur.com/a/1j6Plz8 I have cooler master N200 and the front fan is noisy, so I moved it outside according to this. [the reason was this] I'm worried if this could affect the air flow or not, it is pretty close to the front panel now. There is this small gap marked as "A" to facilitate the easy removal of the front panel, that gap could have been a possible help for air-take as well before switching it outside. Now it wont be much useful, so I'm guessing the air flow might get reduced a bit? or reduced due to the fan directly releasing air into a honeycomb-designed metal grill instead of open space like earlier? Please any help on this is appreciated, I'm new to this. Thanks.
  10. Looking for high CFM, good RPM and excellent static pressure high-end 4 pin PWM controlled fans (not concerned with sound levels) for the somewhat "airflow deprived" Phantek Evolv X chassis. All help is appreciated
  11. So what do you think is the Fractal Design Node 804 sufficient for a mid to high end air cooling build? When fitted with high SP , high quality fans should airflow be a problem in this chassis?
  12. Is there a diminishing return if I put 2 fans with different CFMs? Let's say a hyper 212x, I'll use a frostflow (if that's what the stock fan is called) as push and a 2200rpm rated fan as pull will lower CFM then place them vice versa. Or should 2 fans match each other's CFM? And one more thing should the exhaust fan at the rear side of the case needs to be faster to dissipate the heat out of the case? I noticed most fans that come with cases have slower rpms.
  13. Hey guys I recently made a build (my 1st build, learned a lot real fast on how I could have made it better) here are the parts I used PCPartPicker My question is about the fan setup. Right now I have the 2 AF120's as a top exhaust, the fan that came with the case & the SP120 as front intake, my question is really about the H55. Should I have this as an intake which will draw cool air through the radiator or as an exhaust? I was thinking intake, because I didn't want to warm the radiator with pushing case air through it rather than fresh air from outside the case.
  14. Hey Guys I want to make a silent system (positive or negative airflow doesn't matter to me as long as it's cool in there). I was wondering if you guy could recommend an airflow setup that gives me good cooling for a gaming rig. I have a crappy case so I know that I'm going to have to buy a new one. Right now I have the Thermaltake H24 Versa, I am planning on upgrading to either the Corsair Air Series or something equivalent. Any suggestions?
  15. zedselder

    fan cfm

which is better using a 120mm fan with high speed or a 200mm fan with low speed both of them have the same cfm
  16. Hey all Linus people. Im building a new pc (wew) and just wondering what you people think are some guidelines when buying fans. Like what brands to stay/buy. How loud they should be (dba 20 loud or not?) How much CFM is good for large/small fans just general help. Thankyou guys and girls.
  17. Can the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 CPU Cooler fit into a MSI Blitz Mid Tower Case?
  18. My Thermaltake Overseer RX-I has a Thermaltake Pure 20 LED, which is 800 RPM, and the top is 600-800 RPM and the original front is the second top which is 600 RPM. My rear fan is now the bottom fan and it taken by a liquid cooler. Either way, this creates a negative air pressure. Some other forums have talked about it, and they both have pros and cons. Obviously equal is the best. But not all cases have equal fan sizes and speeds. The case has dust filters everywhere, so dust isn't a problem. All I want to know is: what's YOUR case air pressure? +, -, or =?
  19. Hi So guys, I was wondering, which one is a better case fan? The SickleFlow X or the XtraFlo? And which one would be a better radiator fan of these two? I need them for case cooling, I don't plan on having a liquid-cooled system, but I was just wondering. The XtraFlo is rated at 83CFM and the SickleFlow X at 70CFM, but the SickleFlow X has the POM bearings and an incredible MTBF rating. I can only buy Cooler Master fans in Macedonia, so any other suggestions would be a waste. But thank you anyway . So basically, which one is the better fan of these two?
  20. Hello, I am getting a new side panel for my HAF XM from Cooler Master (they are offering it for me) that has two 140mm Fan Slots which I will utilise. Before going further, the thing you need to know about me is that I really do not care about noise. At the moment I got 5 of Jetflo 120mm case fans which push a lot of air but very loud. Despite of this I am very impressed by how much air it pushes for just a small 120mm fan (95 CFM). But because I can now add 140mm (not 120mm) I want to know some 140mm fans that can match or outperform the 120mm Jetflo that I possess. Ofcourse it shouldn't be as loud as a jet-engine or vacuum, as long it is reasonable for the performance just like my Cooler Master Jetflos. After some searching, 140mm fans are not as popular and crowded as 120mm's and many of them are old and generic. The only decent ones are from Noctua but they are expensive such as the NF-A12: http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id=&id2=228&bid=&sid=195490 The NF-A12 at 3000RPM is the only one that outperforms the Jetflo in terms of CFM and Air Pressure. Are there other decent 140mm fans I missed? May you please help me search for one at http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products_list.phtml?id=10&bid=2&id2=228 Thanks!
  21. I am looking at RAID cards, but need to keep them adequately cooled. On a bunch of product briefs (LSI 9211-8i, Adaptec 6805e, and others), the manufacturer specifies 200 LFM of airflow. If I had a fan blowing on it, either directly or from the side, how might I choose a fan based on the fan's CFM?
  22. Hello guys. I just got myself a ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z (replacement board for a MSI 990FXA-GD80) and when i try to boot it up it says: I've tried every setting in the CSM menu and nothing helps! Do I have to get a new SSD? PS: It's a regular MBR Windows 8 installation on a OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD.
  23. so im on the hunt for a color changing 140 mm case fan that isn't noisy. is that too much to ask for? i would prefer if i could switch between all 256 colors, but really I just want to be able to change the color of my computer every so often if i want to. it seems to me that if i wanted a rainbow fan that's quiet i should be able to get it.surely i cant be the only person to want a multicolored case. i know nzxt has the hue, but i hear the LEDs don't stick to well and i kind of want a fan not an LED strip. does anyone know of one?
  24. I'm looking for a full tower case with good airflow that has good airflow and is full tower that has good airflow but it must be a full tower that has good airflow. Sorry for that horrible run-on sentence. I want a case that also has the following: - $100-$180 CAD - USB 3.0 (should be on all cases anyway) - Full tower - Feels sturdy (no plastic.) - Made from a well-known company such as Cooler Master, Corsair, NZXT - Good airflow as I will be air cooling all of my components, unlike my current build which uses a Corsair H60. - Quiet (whisper is the max.) - Has rubber grommets - Filters for intake and power supply fans. - Looks nice; no flashy colors, just plain sexy. Brushed aluminum is my cup of tea... I should I say, my choice of case. - Preferably windowed In my case (no pun intended), I will be putting these components: Intel Core i5 4690K will overclock be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 ASUS Z97 PRO mobo ASUS,EVGA,XFX, R9 280X,GTX770 I am thinking about the Corsair 750D. It has everything I want, except that I think the airflow isn't the best. Also, does anyone know what happens if I leave the front cover closed? Will it have good airflow? Any help is appreciated
  25. What 140mm or 120mm fans are great for directed airflow and also fairly quiet? I plan on using it on the bottom of my FD Arc Midi R2 for pushing more air to the graphics card. I would be running it most of the time at 7V and take them to 12V when I mine.
