  1. Ok guys I have a question. I know Fortnite is an extremely optimized game and Fortnite mobile is more optimized. So if I run Fortnite mobile on an Android emulator on an Intel Celeron with 8gb RAM, will it run properly?
  2. Hello guys, I own a Jumper ezbook x4 with Endeavour OS, I was previously owner of an Asus Zenbook pro 15 2018 with an i7-8750H, I used to run elementaryOS with undervolt settings pasted from throttlestop on windows. My issue is that I can't find any way to do the same with my N4100 on Linux, I have not checked if it runs fine with windows and throttlestop but I suppose to. Thanks in advance, hope someone has something to try!
  3. Hi, I'm thinking about splitting my gaming/server pc into two pcs, so I need a lov voltage base for my server. What I found is Asus n3150m-e mobl, which almost suits my needs - only 2 satas while I have 8 3tb drives I can and want to use. However I have a sas card, so it's not a problem. Question is if n3150 would be enough for max 2-3 users at once homeserver? Only data, maybe sometimes torrent if it's possible on nas softwares like truenas or freenas (never used them, it'd be my first standalone server). Another question I have is about power supply. This mobo, including ram and sas card, shouldn't take more than 20-25W, adding drives (8 HDDs and 1 SSD) gives me 100-110W on max load. Could I use an optiplex, Lenovo or veriton supply? They are 200-250W which should be more than enough and as I want an open case build it won't mind it's not an atx sized.
  4. So i have this old motherboard (post 2004 idk exactly from when ) that comes from an old computer with ram ( 2x 256 mb of ddr ) that i stubled upon whilst packing for moving, and i was wondering if anybody could be intressted for buying it on ebay ( for 20+ $ otherwise it's not worth the effort ) since it's old technology and i haven't found that rabithole yet.
  5. I currently have a laptop running a Celeron 3855U. I'm looking to just get cheap secondhand laptop with slightly more processing power and I found a laptop online but it is running a i3 380m. Although it has better clock speeds is it actually a better processor compared to the newer Celeron?
  6. Hello There! I wanted to ask you guys if you had any experience with a laptop with a celeron type CPU in it. Are you able to use internet, watch videos and type up reports in word or google docs with minimal lag or issues? Heres the reason to why im asking: Im going to buy a laptop for this person I know. Hes not financially privileged as some people are and hes going to start his second year of architecture in college. I just want to know if a celeron based laptop is enough for him to work comfortably on reports and stuff so he doesnt need to go to some cyber cafe and work on the PCs there. Im thinking if I should go for a core i3 (or maybe its too much?) or the celeron CPU. Theres another issue with the RAM. All the laptops Ive seen come with 4gb of RAM and seeing that they come with win10 it might have to be upgraded to 8gb just in case. What do you guys think?
  7. Some 10 years ago Intel released the Celeron 420 based on a low power variant of the Core 2 architecture. It was cheap, slow, and somewhat power efficient. The chip was only used in compact cheap industrial PCs so it never received much attention in its day. For those interested in the specs: https://ark.intel.com/products/29734/Intel-Celeron-Processor-420-512K-Cache-1_60-GHz-800-MHz-FSB Thus today is 4-20, making the perfect occasion to overclock the Celeron 420. We start off with the stock 1.6GHz base clock and see what we can get. The Cinebench R15 score is abysmal compared to really anything else after 2005. We only managed to score a 28. That's right, just 28. As for our overclock I made it to 3.2GHz comfortably, but anything beyond that, the system would not post. I used a Seidon 240m on a GA-EP45-UD3P and 4GB of G. Skill 800MHz. As you can see with the base clock at 3.2GHz we managed to get that score up to a blistering 49 points, still well below even a stock Core 2 Duo E6300. This CPU doesn't have the performance even when overclocked. If all you need to do is check email with no background tasks this CPU may fit the bill but it's difficult to recommend it for anything more.
  8. Hi LTT-Community, i've found something really intresting to build my future nas with. But first things first, I'm a student, and I don't really have much money to spent on this project, but I really need a nas-system I currently got 8 TB worth of hdd's in my gaming system (2x 3TB and 1x 2Tb) as well as 2 SSDs (120GB OCZ Vertex3 for the OS and a 240 GB Samsung 840 Evo). My problem is, those 8TB of storage are nearly full and I don't really wanna put another 3-8TB hdd in that system. I'm using that storage for typical nas stuff, so it would make sense to get a nas system, but I want a really power efficient one and I want to build my own one. I've found this here: http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=838#specification As u can see, there is a passively cooled Intel Celeron J3160 Quad-Core on that board (http://ark.intel.com/products/91533/Intel-Celeron-Processor-J3160-2M-Cache-up-to-2_24-GHz?q=j3160) I have a G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz kit here which I currently don't need, so I could put that into this system. I've checked the memory support of the board but my memory isn't listed there, but i'm really optimistic it will work without any problems anyway. Ofc the ram will be downclocked to 1600 MHz but that should be fine. But as u can see, this board just has 2 Sata3 6Gb/s ports, which is not really nas like, but the board does have a full size PCIe 2.0 x16 slot. So I'm planing to get an old raid controller from ebay so I could plug in at least 6 drives into that controller. There is my first real problem, I dont really know much about raid controllers, so I would be really happy to get some tips on what controller to use for that. Because that system will be only hdds I don't really need the fastest speeds possible, but I want the system to support the full 1Gb/s network speed and maybe some more if possible. My next question: I've upgraded my Notebook (Acer Aspire V7 582PG) recently with a new mSata SSD and I got the old mSata SSD out of it. Its a 24 GB Kingston SMS151S3/24G drive. It looks like u cant get this drive anywhere so its really hard to find some specs for it. But I would be happy to use it for my OS on the nas system which would be freeNas and I think a 24 GB drive should be enough for that. I would use one of the boards Sata3 slots to connect the drive using a sata to msata adapter. But as I cant get any specs for this drive, I'm not sure if that would work because in my Notebook the ssd was used as a fast cache drive only, so I really wanna see if some of you could tell me if that drive can do what I want it to do Now to my last question: Do u guys think, that this system would have enough power to fully support my 1Gb/s network transfer speed? I really don't wanna get much below 100 MB/s read and write speeds, but I don't know if that system can handle this. As I'm planing to put more drives into the system in the future starting with a new 4 TB drive and my two existing 3 TB drives I want this system to be powerful enough for the job even when there are 16TB or more in it. And just to let u guys know, I'm not planing to buy a case for this system. I'll build my own one because it's really hard to get cases which support 5 or more 3.5" drives and be as small as I need it, so that will be the real fun part of the project If the system can do the job it would be a really cheap solution for a powerful nas. The main parts (without the drives) for me would cost less then 150$ or € or whatever And because the CPU has a TDP of 6W (!!!) it would be super efficient and quite cheap to run (I hope). I'm looking forward to your replies As you guys probably noticed I'm not a native english speaker, so I'm sorry for any mistake I'm from Germany.
  9. I'm in need for a laptop or 2-in-1 for taking notes at University. YouTube, MS office are my use cases. Even if it only lasts me 1year. I'm trying to find out how cheap I can go on a 10-13inch laptop. What are the use cases of laptops with Atom, Celeron and Pentium processors (Why are there laptops with each of these processors?) Which processor type would be the cheapest, pleasant experience for my use?

  11. Hello there everyone. Long time LTT viewer but have never needed to post in the forum before. I have recently seen a YouTube video regarding the new Synology DS918+ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OIDPoA83rU) and think it would be a great upgrade from my current Drobo 5N. However I have recently been gifted a cheap computer from an elderly relative, and around 12 months ago bought a workstation tower from work that they would otherwise have thrown out, for a whole £1 !!! I also bought a rack mounted PC from work at the same time (also £1...!) with dual CPU's and a shed load of RAM, but that's out of the question for this build. The first computer that was given to me is a very basic machine, with a Celeron 1037U CPU soldered onto an mATX board, no dedicated GPU, with 1 4GB stick of DDR3 (1 spare slot for easy upgrading). This PC has only 1x SATA3 and 3x SATA2 connectors, and currently just a single 500gb WD Blue inside. The main bonus of this system is that it was free to me, and uses 30 watts max, it's currently connected up to a mains wattage meter and while typing now it is using 26 watts. The second system is a workstation tower that work were throwing out. It houses a W3520 Xeon chip with either 16 or 32gb of ECC memory, an unknown (can't access it at the moment) LSI hardware raid card and a Quadro FX3800. Complete overkill I'm sure you'd agree, however it is literally sitting doing nothing so I think it would make a perfect home server. The main down side with this is of course it will be power hungry. I currently use a Drobo 5N, with 2x 4TB WD Red drives. I use it for PLEX, and to back up my data from my other computers. However I find PLEX a bit sluggish and problematic on the Drobo at times as it cannot support encoding of certain videos. Backing up onto it takes an age as well. And for some reason I can't seem to easily access music off it directly into a media player. Ultimately I would like to be able to set up a surveillance system, as well as use the new NAS as a 'home server' type storage device, for things like all my music files to save me having all my music on every computer in the house, and videos, etc. Thank you for reading this far! The big question is: Should I use the Celeron system, with the LSI raid card from the Xeon system? Would this be powerful enough to do on the fly encoding? Or does it need a graphics chip to be effective. Or Should I use the Xeon workstation system entirely. Or.. Would the new DS918+ system do everything I want of it? While consuming as much power (if not less than) the Celeron system. I know that the Synology system has a 'surveillance station' which sounds fantastic - however you only get two licenses included in the box. The economist in me thinks I should use the Celeron system as it's free and low wattage, the snobbery in me thinks I should buy the DS918+ (but it is £500+ with no drives), and the tinkerer in me thinks I should use the Xeon workstation - however the power draw of this system will be a killer! Thank you for any advice, apologies about the length of the query but it's quite a complicated question I have! Thanks all, Dom.
  12. Reworking the Celeron article, any opinions on the Kaby Lake Celerons?
  13. So I got this laptop from a friend. It's an old Acer Aspire 4330. This laptop has... issues, to say the least. Anyways, I've actually had this laptop for about a year and a half. It's been sitting in a drawer doing nothing. Today, I've decided to fix it up, it's a new project laptop. I'm going to see how much I can push this. Anyways, The specs are a single core Celeron 575 @ 2GHz, obviously the fastest CPU ever. 512MB of DDR2 RAM, Intel integrated graphics, 120GB HDD, and Windows Vista Home Basic. Yeah, not sitting pretty at all. And as you can see from the photos, it ain't clean looking at all: Pretty dirty. So here's what I've done so far. I cleaned the laptop: Looks much better now, so then I upgraded the RAM to 2GB. Not a lot of RAM still, but hell of a lot better than 512MB. Anyways, at first I tried to use Windows Vista, and, it wasn't great. It ran okay, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't an amazing experience. Acer even had this cool wallpaper that'd play showing off the Aspire 4330 line, and it lagged on this machine, bad. This is a screensaver made by Acer for this laptop, and it ran like shit. Also, Google Chrome isn't supported on Vista anymore. So I went to Intel ARK. What do you know, the 575 is a 64-bit CPU. So I loaded Windows 10 on here, 64-bit. It.. installed, but it's extremely slow. Obviously the next thing to do would be to run Cinebench. Here's the score from this single core power house. 37. Obviously the best score ever. Anyways, I stripped down the laptop and cleaned out a bunch of dust from inside the fan. This CPU uses Socket P, so theoretically I can upgrade the CPU. I think I'll try that. I'm not getting a CPU over $5 and I'm shooting for a Core 2 Duo, I'll see what happens there. The trackpad is also dead, though, it has to use an external mouse. The F key is also missing, but if you touch the contact, it'll still type, so there's that. Anyways, this is looking to be a fun project. Side note, it took about 25ish minutes to complete the CPU test on Cinebench.
  14. I have a really big interest in cuphead. I want to play the game but I don't want to buy it if I'm unable to play it. These are my specs: Celeron B815 4 gb of ram no video card I know that these specs are really bad but I was asking because I saw that the min. specs were a core 2 duo
  15. This post isn't a troll or anything but with Linus' recent video covering the law of diminishing return by comparing the G4560 to the 7820X, I came to a strange realisation. The Celerons, in terms of specifications, are actually the best value processors around. I mean think about it, 1/2 the cores of an i5, 1/2 the cache of an i5, with similar clockspeeds as lower end i5s like the 6400, but with a much lower price tag. I mean the G3930 is like $35. That is 5 times less expensive than an i5 6400, but just 1/2 the performance on paper. Am I missing something here? Can somebody explain why are they so freaking cheap? Just to be clear, I am not saying Celerons can do much, 2 cores are just inseffiecent in 2017, albeit, 2 strong cores. It's just really strange that, they're that cheap.
  16. I was just wondering what I could do with a Lenovo ideapad 110 with 4.00 GB of ram and Intel Celeron at 1.99 GHz I could install windows back if needed since it came preinstalled with windows 10 with bloat now I'm running CR ( Cloud Ready) I could install Ubuntu
  17. Hey guys. Do you have any ideas how to improve an Intel Celeron CPU on a laptop dramatically...
  18. Hey guys, I have a spare broken cpu (the celeron e3300) and i want to try and delid it for fun. I'm just wondering if it has any of those surface mount resistor/capacitor thingies around the cpu die that i'll have to be carefull about? Thanks in advance
  19. So i was able to uncover my dads old desktop that he used to use as a media device. i want to remove the hdd that is in there. But the problem is that there along with the philips head screws, these circular, non allen screw looking heads that i dont know how to remove. i wanted to give the specifics of this computer, but my dad lost the password years ago, and none of the existing numbers are on the back or bottom lead to anything. the tag that says the serial code, mfg date, mfg code, name of the tower are shoddily ripped off All i can say is that this computer is a dell desktop with an intel celeron processing unit running windows 7.
  20. Any ideas what this old case might be? The fan is a ‘raidMax’ one and seems to be similar to some of their old cases but can’t find a match. Really bugging me. Thanks
  21. Hello everyone! Sorry if this isn't the correct thread for my post, but I'm looking for some advice. I want to restore an old Acer Aspire 5315-2847, which has -Intel Celeron M 560 -120 GB HDD -512 MB RAM (Yep) I installed 2 GB of RAM and the computer was suddenly usable (It had Windows XP and it was completely useless). I installed windows 10 and it actually works pretty well! Just one problem... The video chip doesn't have updated drivers, so the screen resolution sucks (It has a 1280x800 screen, but I can only use 1024x768 or 800x600 resolution). According to DXDIAG, the graphics chip is Intel's "GM965/PM965/GL960", and the label on the laptop says it's a X3100 accelerator. I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to fix that, any kind of third party software that circumvents this problem, or any way to adapt the older drivers to Windows 10, thanks everyone! EDIT: If there's no solution, I can always install Windows 7, but since it's running out of support soon (If it didn't already), I much rather it have win10
  22. Summary A couple of new cpus from intel are now available. There will be a new i9 processor along with three Celerons. The core i9 will be called the i9-10850k and is essentially a 10900k with 100 MHz lower clocks. It is currently only available from system integrators but seems to be moving towards a retail launch. It should be around $50 less than the 10900k. In addition to the new i9 processor, there are 3 new celeron processors. They are the G5925, G5905, and G5905T. All have two cores and two threads and clock speeds in the 3GHz range. They are priced around $50. Quotes My thoughts I think the 10850k will be basically the same as the 10900k and will essentially replace it. I think it will be able to be easily overclocked to the same places as the 10900k and is only being released to get more intel products on the shelves. I also think the celerons will be take over for very budget systems from system builders. But, I doubt it will compare to the similarly priced Athlon CPUs that AMD has available as they have twice the number of threads. Ive noticed these articles are a couple of days old yet werent posted here yet, am I the only that hasnt heard of these processors before now or have they just not gotten alot of attention/coverage? 23. Will Intel celeron G4900 fit MSI H110M PRO VD PLUS
  24. I just bought this Dell Dimension 2400 from a garage sale and I found out it has a Celeron processor at 2.40GHz. I was wondering if I could upgrade the processor to a Pentium 4 3.40GHz processor I have lying around. I keep finding random Pentium 4's in my room, haha. If it doesn't work, any processor upgrades available?
  25. Hello This is NOT another "Is GPU X bottleneck by CPU Y ?" type of topic. I know my CPU DOES (trust me on this), and please don't even try to say to me "CPU bottlenecks don't exist", OK ? Good. Topic is for everyone interested to know, how bad can you really go with CPU Bottlenecking. Also : Please, DO NOT try to tell me how stupid I am for making this combo. I did it for tests ONLY, not to actually use this setup as my rig. Result from AIDA64 : CPU-z valid : https://valid.x86.fr/2sve04 Because I decresed FSB frequency to 380MHz (effective), and 95MHz (real) - bandwidth available to everything was reduced to 3080MB/s (theoretical). That's NOT enough to saturate a PCI-e 1.x x16 slot, let alone DDR2 memory or anything else. Here's result after OC (2,5 GHz) : CPU-z valid : https://valid.x86.fr/qewu00 Fire Strike : 1,9GHz = 113 points (LINK) 2,6GHz = 345 points (LINK) (+50% in Physics = +380% in Graphics) If someone wants a test, I can try to run it on this setup. However, this CPU doesn't support SSE3 instructions, so keep that in mind if asking for GPU benchmarks. EDIT : For comparison, result from my main rig : Fire Strike : 18 178 (LINK) (vs. Celeron after OC, it's 5268% speed up (or 52,68 times). In summary (biggest difference) : Memory Copy : 225 722 MB/s vs. 206 146 MB/s (- 9,5%) Single Precision Julia : 1945 FPS vs. 1783 FPS (- 9%) You will lose some VRAM bandwidth (interesting isn't it) and FLOP performance (however not in every case).
