source: https://www.techpowerup.com/232775/amd-releases-radeon-software-crimson-relive-17-4-4-drivers so ... this is a really weird one: I seriously do not understand AMD for this one, they dropped that shit raptr from their driver package a while back to turn back to this?! why! and of course this shit is missing from the release notes: https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-Edition-17.4.4-Release-Notes.aspx

Hello, so like 6 months ago i was getting some help on here but that thread died so im making a new one! So i have a Catalyst 4948-10GE and i got the x2 modules, a compatible transceiver and a fiber cable. But the thing is it just... doesn't work. Like nothing, computer shows no networks, and the little light on the switch next to the x2 isn't on. Is there something in the terminal i need to do to get it to work?

Well it has been a hell of a month. Actually more like 2 but it's whatever. So everything started with a driver update. AMD Catalyst had been bugging me about an update in drivers for a few weeks and it had been getting annoying, so I plugged in and sat back. There was some bloatware I had decided not to install, but one of them intrigued me: AMD QuickStream. Well it seemed like a helpful tool so I decided to install it. Well skip ahead and Catalyst is through the important display drivers and it has been on QuickStream for 30 min with no sign of life. I'll let it sit a bit more and do some work. Come an hour and a half later, no movement. Well I did the only thing I could do and just kind of restarted so as not to break anything. The display drivers were installed and the restart wasn't being held by anything so I just kind of went with it. Well hey, this is new, a GSoD. Guess blue went out of style. Whatever floats ur boat Microsoft. Okay, I'll just restart again, no problem. Nope, GSoD is back again. I go to safe mode. First thing I can think to do is just uninstall everything. I removed anything with the name AMD and ran AMD's clean and DDU tool like 3 times. Whelp, new error: IRQL not less or equal too. The hell? Everything is gone? Well next resort was to reinstall the driver in safe mode to see if it would magically fix something. Head over to AMD, find the same driver (triple-checking it for compatibility) and download it. Open it up, CUSTOM install, and... "The Driver Detection Tool could not be loaded" Oh God. So now I'm running out of options. I can't uninstall any further, and I can't reinstall. So I call AMD. AMD dude is now confused AF and has no idea what to do he tells me to run some tools, that won't load in safe mode. so I'm officially screwed. Thankfully I had installed a second Windows (stable Windows, in case the [now dead] Insider Windows died) So I'm trying everything I can and now I'm coming here. I spend a bunch of time stitching together a GSoD post to try to get help. Nobody replies. not one. I'm desperate so now I take things into my own hands: Time to debug a fucking kernel dump. So I have no idea what I'm doing but I manage my way around WinDBG and run a few commands. and I find a trouble maker. appexDrv.sys It's a driver that belongs to *drum roll* AMD Quick Stream Technology. So now I have to find a way to fix this with no Google alternatives. Using the indexer Everything (highly recommend), I find a copy of this file in Windows.old. I try just replacing the file with the one in Windows.old no avail. Now I have to result to the only alternative I know. Fucking hard deleting a .sys file in System32>Drivers. The sketchiest thing I've done in my life. I consult the forums again on this idea. and someone gives me a yellow light (go ahead but be safe) (thanks Jarno.!) I've run out of options so I delete the appexDrv.sys in the Drivers folder and completely empty the Recycling Bin (wtf Windows, why there). Boot up the GSoD'd Windows. It fucking worked The answer to all of my computer stress for the last month was a fucking delete key. And that's my story. Fuck you AMD Fuck myself for being dumb AF Fuck Windows for letting me delete a fucking driver file and fuck you for letting that fix the problem Fuck the support forums for not helping (except Jarno,!) TL;DR AMD install failed and was aborted prematurely and fucked my computer AMD Clean Utility and DDU had skipped a faulty driver file AMD installer wouldn't load in Safe Mode AMD support couldn't help me Tests I had been trying to run weren't working in Safe Mode The forums here weren't attempting to help me because you couldn't Google the answers (tbh) Had to debug a kernel dump file by hand Tried replacing the driver file which didn't work Ended up just fucking pressing the delete key and deleting a driver by hand in the System32>Drivers folder Fixed it. I do not recommend or encourage this course of action to ANYONE in this situation. Just throw your computer out the window. Update: COMODO Internet Security's automatic program containment actually contained the Quickstream installer without letting me know. About 85% it tells me when something has been automatically contained, and stays on despite disabling Antivirus and Viruscope. Unfortunately I like it's features and customization and have come to enjoy it despite its flaws and alternatives (Avast) Update 2: It has come to my attention that people are confused as to why... everything. I should do some explaining. I updated form Windows 7 to Windows 10 to Windows 10 Insider Preview on an extremely older version of the Catalyst driver which never caused problems. I reinstalled the older driver and updated the driver now that i have the computer back, and have had no issues. The issue was not with Catalyst, just the installer. No, I was not expecting a perfect Windows experience with Windows Insider, but that was (astonishingly) not the problem! Now onto what actually caused the issue. I use Comodo antivirus because it does the job well and is highly customization and great for "power users". I have had issues with resources in the past with antiviruses like Avast and AVG (both just had unresponsive UI's on older spec computers). Comodo has a bunch of very powerful tools, one of them being Auto-Containment, which automatically contains potential threats and runs them in a safe environment. Unfortunately it does this without your permission often, and sometimes without even letting you know. After some issues with a blocked program I looked into the contained list and found the QuickStream installer listed as contained. So Comodo contained the installer preventing proper installation and keeping the Catalyst installer from properly cancelling installation and canceling operations with QuickStream installer. Even If I had been told that the program had been auto-contained it would have been too late. I had disabled the Antivirus and the VirusScope but unfortunately left auto-containment on. #feelsbadman Update #3: Old drivers were actually recommended by AMD's own support due to OEM compatibility (HP Pavillion dv6z-7000). I might eventually make the switch to the latest Radeon if I can. Depends on compatibility. I have updated to the latest Catalyst for bug fixes and such. Working fine, if not better. Also, doesn't it seem a bit odd that you can just delete a driver file from Windows>System32>Drivers without causing any further issues?

So after a botched installation of AMD QuickStream (courtesy of AMD Catalyst update), there is a faulty file causing repeated B(in my case G)SOD's. The file is appexDrv.sys, and it is causing IRQL errors on every boot except safe mode. And thanks to AMD making great catalyst installers /s I can't fix the file in Safe Mode. I'm wondering if I cant kind of "drag it to the Recycling Bin" (lol jk delete it) at this point so I can get my computer back and install it in Clean Boot. This will probably break something. Can I just? source: https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/pages/amd-radeon-software-crimson-edition-16.5.2.1-release-notes.aspx in relation to this: just for the 390(X)?! what the bloody hell AMD? the 390(X) is basically a 290(X) with higher clocks and VRAM, but no word on that would be curious on the benchmarks with the new driver across the board, not just 390(X)

So I was wondering if you could use both manufactures programs in one computer by having a card from both companies. Nvidia has that sick shadowplay and Amd has the new cool stuff and I want the best of both worlds.

I'm currently using Afterburner with Catalyst to disable Powerplay, up the clocks and customise the fan settings. I've heard that Crimson and Afterburner where not playing nice (specially the fan settings). Anyone tested Afterburner with the new Crimson hotfix yet?

I finally got around to upgrade from my old Phenom II x4 810 system. The only part carried out of that build was my Radeon HD6870. I build new pc in itx case. My specs. -Intel i5 6600 (non K) -Asus H170I-Plus D3 MoBo -8gb ddr3L 1.35V Kingston -The Radeon hd 6870 -Windows 10 64bit Now the problem is the Catalyst software crashes immediately after put on load. I can run 4 seconds in furmark before the: Graphics driver stopped working and resumed popup windows appears in windows notifications. I did a clean install of windows 10. The problem is same on drivers from amd website and the drivers from windows update. The card doesn't overheat (temps max 55c) and its not power shortage either i have 500w powersupply. Worked fine in windows 10 before upgrade.(with amd phenom cpu) Thanks in advance

Well we all know AMD does worse than Nvidia but their promise with Crimson is clearly not as good as promised... http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd-binary-2015&num=1 Here you see how much they improved this year which is not by much sadly... http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amdgpu-2016-details&num=1 AMD promises improvements in 2016 but after all these failures can we trust a single word? http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=2015-holiday-gpus&num=2 How far behind Nvidia is AMD? Well 750Ti beats the Fury so lets just say their cards are useless... Also please pester AMD about this issue!

As many of you know, Catalyst Crontrol Center is no more (and it's about damn time). With the brand new Radeon Crimson software suite + drivers comes a pile of improvements which you can check out in more detail in a post in the tech news section here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/491366-amd-radeon-software-%E2%80%9Ccrimson%E2%80%9D-1530-releases/ The point of this thread is to let you all know today at 12pm PT (3pm EST) representatives from AMD will be on PCPer live to talk about the new Crimson software and other up coming news/info from AMD. Tune in here to watch/listen to the live stream: http://www.pcper.com/live/ I'm very excited about this new update for AMD GPU users. Catalyst has been LONG due for a serious overhaul/replacement and AMD [hopefully] has delivered. Cheers.

So my friend got a samsung monitor yesterday . He hooked it up to his r9 280x with hdmi and changed the color space to rgb from ycbcr from catalyst control center as explained on pcmonitors . He then changed his hdmi black level to normal to remove the crushed blacks. I got all of that part . But then it got me wondering, what about other monitors ? I was looking to buy a benq monitor in a week , but the hdmi black level is a samsung feature. How will i be able to change to Full range since even im gonna use hdmi (for audio mostly) . Even i have r9 280x. Please help me out

Hey all, just wondering what your opinions of this are. Hardware V-Sync (Via nVidia Control Panel, AMD Catalyst) Vs Software V-Sync ( In game settings) Thank you all

AMD released Catalyst 15.4 Beta, specifically for Grand Theft Auto V release. Download here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx Sadly no Freesync X-fire update (will probably be released later this month). No denying GTA V being a huge title, when both AMD and NVidia releasing updates, focused on this game: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/347247-nvidias-latest-driver-drops-35012-whql-with-support-for-gta-v-and-other-games/ Too bad, steam does not come with irl bonusses:

I had tried everything to stop the blue screen of death and associated memory dump from popping up intermittantly, along with the error message from atikmpag.sys ATI has a newer beta version of the R9 drivers, I installed them and no more crashes Hopint this works for others as well

So today I turned on my pc and My screen was underscanning, but for a while now, My catalyst control center would not open. I have known about it but never got around to fixing it. So now, I'm looking at my screen with pretty big black bars and no way to fix it. I have tried uninstalling my catalyst and reinstalling the latest, and beta, and every previous driver on amd's site. but nothing. I have also gone into safemode to try to uninstall it and remove the folders, ect. But in safe mode, when I set my resolution with now Catalyst installed, My screen dosent under scan. If anyone could please help me get catalyst to open on my normal pc, I would be so appreciative. Thanks.
