Will Power over Ethernet (PoE) function properly if I utilize this wall socket depicted in the attached image? It appears to be similar to a keystone, resembling a network jack with wall-mounting capabilities. I am contemplating using the Dream Machine Special Edition along with a couple of Camera G4 Pro devices, but I want to ensure compatibility before making an investment. My plan is to run Cat6 cable from the Dream Machine to this wall plate, then connect it to another plate in a different room, and finally link the camera via another Cat6 cable. I'll have two of these wall plates in use, so I just want confirmation that this setup will indeed work. If anyone has encountered a similar situation, could you please advise if this configuration is viable?

I've got an old H81-P33 motherboard, I recently learned that it supports up the 1000mbps on the onboard ethernet slot. I'm currently using a cable that is capped at 100. I noticed the difference while playing COD mobile with an emulator when using a 300mpbs wireless adapter compared to the slower cable and it lagged much less. I've got 50mbps fiber, and I'm curious what happens if you use a gigabit cat 6 cable. Will my speed be higher, lag less? Or would it not work because my plan is too slow?

Ok so, this problem is not a new one, but my particular problem is I can't seem to fix it using anyone else's solutions. The latest post in this forum of someone having the same issue was almost the same thing that happened to me to the T but I didn't use multiple different adapters or anything. Short version is, I finally got a new pc, plugged in a cheap usb wifi adapter to install drivers while I waited for my cat 6 cable to get here, it finally does, I plug it in and I get unidentified network, no internet access. So I have been spending all day looking up solutions and I've tried everything I can think of. I reset the modem and router many times Reset the adapter Updated drivers Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers Uninstalled my virus protection software Used ipconfig /release, /renew, dns flush, winsock reset etc I tried manually inputting static IPs Disabled tcp/ipv6 Pretty much everything else I could find When I first tried to use the /renew command I got a lot of notifications saying media was disconnected and that an error occurred while renewing interface ethernet : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. I reset my modem after this and then my unidentified network changed to network but there was still no internet connection. At this point the wifi on the router just stopped working completely. I tried plugging my cable into the router to see if this might fix that issue but to no avail. I'm just about out of options here and I don't know if I should just give up and settle for wifi? Also when I used ipconfig /all these are the results in case they help anyone diagnose my problem. It seems like it's trying to push IPv6 DNS servers at me but even trying to set my IP manually in the network adapter I can't seem to get anything to work Edit: Also any time I try troubleshooting my network adapter it says "Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration."

Hi guys, I've just moved into a new place and they have cat 5 going from the garage to the center of the house but they have wired it In Cat 5 A form while data like routera use Cat 5 B, I want to get a router on the other side of the Cat 5 A line. My logic says that if I make a cat 5 B to A cable and a A to B that I can run a router on the other end, any ideas on how to get this working?

I have a 40ft cat5e ethernet cable. I only need 18 ft to reach the router. I have $15 newegg giftcard. A 25ft cat6e ethernet cable on newegg is $10.99. A roccat siru mousepad is $15.00 on newegg. I am currently my friends vanguard card game mat. Should I buy an ethernet cable or mousepad and if ethernet cable, can cat5e handle over 150mbps

Good Day, I'm in the process of renovating my home, with the intention of renting it out as soon as I find a suitable tenant. I would like to install a hardwired Gigabit LAN network during this process. I intend on routing all 23 jacks to a Port Panel and Switch mounted together with the Router on a rack with a dedicated power supply. I would also like to run the single Phone Jack in my house to the 24th port of the Port Panel. As I plan on renting the house out, I want to make it as idiot-proof as possible. For this I will connecting every port on the Port Panel to a corresponding port on the Switch. That way the Tenant never has to worry about moving wires around on the rack whenever they move a device between jacks upstairs. I am also leaning towards an unmanaged Switch at this time, with strong consideration for the TL-SG1024. Are there better Switch options that the forum can recommend? I forsee no PoE needs, and with the internet being a 960mb/s fiber connection, I doubt I will need QoS. Is there any reason why I would want to consider a Managed Switch in place of the Unmanaged Switch I have earmarked at this time? Is there a better Unmanaged Switch? What is out there for Port Panels? I have no idea where to start with those, except that I want one that can support a single Phone Jack, and I want it to be easy to label. Learn me please. Power Supply - Same as Port Panel. What are my options? Needs to be able to support up to five devices in case I decide to upgrade from a single combi Router to dedicated hardware for the Firewall, Modem, Wireless, etc. And probably the easiest question, what are my options for a wall-mounted rack? Lastly, I'd like the install to be clean. This will be installed in the Laundry Room, and so tenants will see it daily. I want it as professional looking as possible.

I've been in my apartment for 12 years now and never bothered checking what was behind my RJ-11 wall jacks. I recently did, and found Cat 5e wires, so I ran to my cabinet where my cable comes into, and pulled 4 Cat 5e cables out of the wall! I got super excited, purchased a bunch of RJ-45 keystones, and am waiting for them to arrive. In the meantime though, I pulled out a few of these just to see if they were all wired up, and they are, but I found one that is causing my brain to hurt. I'm hoping someone in here can give me some ideas as to why I found a Cat 5E cable and a Cat 6 cable spliced together, and then further spliced into another Cat 5E which was hooked up to this one wall jacks keystone (photos below). Any ideas at all would be appreciated! I'm pretty sure no one will know for sure, but maybe you've seen something like this before, or done something like this before that can help me narrow down the purpose. I'm posting some pictures to help understand whats going on. In the first picture, I removed some of the tape that was holding all these together so you can see what's been done. The brown stranded and solid wires were not connected (since it was hooked up to an RJ-11). Picture 2 is how I found it, but only after I already cut off the RJ-11 keystone. As you can see there is a Cat 5e that comes out from the box, and a Cat 6 that comes out from the box, and they are spliced together to the one cat 5e that was connected to the keystone. I can't find a Cat 6 cable anywhere else in the apartment, and I even went down to the basement and couldn't find a Cat 6 anywhere in the basement cabinet. I'm pretty sure I can just get rid of the Cat 6 since it doesn't come into my cabinet. I'm waiting for my RJ-45 tester to arrive since I'm not a pro and didn't have one, but in the meantime I just connected the brown wires to keep everything the way they were (see photos below). I believe it should work this way too, but I'd prefer to get rid of the cat 6 since this happens to be the outlet that would be connected to my home server, so I don't want to risk any issues. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm looking at buying a house soon and fixing it up and installing structured wiring for a home network and everything else. My delima is that I dont know if I should use cat 6 or cat 7. I wanna future proof it whenever i go to resell it in the future. Ill take any types or anything anybody knows. Thanks!

Hey guys So my current setup is my master phone line comes in to my master bedroom to an isp provided router/modem/switch thing. I then run an Ethernet cat 5 cable out the front of my house do to where my pc is, which was ok till I have now moved within the room, I have tried to run by WiFi which was just crap so decided that I would follow the instructions that Luke put on his “DIY Ghetto Netwroking Wall” video. So to do so I need to run cat6 cables troughout my home and was wondering is there a length at which the signal strength starts degrade? I am am planning to run my phone line into an isp router, then cat6 to a switch, then to a WiFi across point, as well as to my pc, is that the best way to run the system or would it be better to do it from phone to modern to network switch and so on? thanks again everyone David

Okay so built my computer couple of months ago and i have only ever used CAT 5 network cables, recently tried using a CAT 6 network cable and my computer doesn't recognise that there is a network cable plugged into it. I've tried uninstalling drivers and following any troubleshooter i found while google searching and nothing fixed it, plugged CAT 5 cable back in and worked instantly. I have an ASRock H1110M-HDS Motherboard. anyone got any idea why it isn't working. I have 4 different network cables to try from and none have worked and all work in another computer.

OK, here's the deal. Bought the first house that we actually own, so I'm looking to do some Ethernet wiring throughout the house. I have it pretty well planned out and need a bit of help. There will be drops in the main rooms for streaming players, printers, and cameras, with some open ports in case I need to hardwire something in the future. All the drops will trace to my networking room in the basement. I know how a switch works, and have heard of patch panels, but which option is better to take all the drops and provide them with reliable internet? Do I need both, or is one sufficient? (basically, I will have the patch panel or switch connect to the router, which connects to the DSL modem. ) Also, what's the difference between a switch and a patch panel? I cannot find this ANYWHERE online. It's hard for me to explain this, so please reply if you want clarification! Also, for running wires: is it smartest to go outside, through walls, or through the attic? There are no false ceilings in the house, and I'd like to avoid fishing wires. I realize this will depend on the building, but still I think that's all! THANKS!

my house was built in the 60s and there was no internet in the 60s shocker I know. so there is no wired internet connection how would i go about doing this but still keeping the wireless internet for phones and ipads. Would i have to take the connection from my modem to a gigabit switch and one of the ports to my router and run a bunch of cables from the switch through out the walls (im a pretty handy man) and make ports in each room? should i use cat 7 or cat 6? I think that is how you do it

I've got an application where a usb device needs to be run for approx 25-30m. I've heard that usb doesn't really work over 5m. I came across this solution that should in theory solve that problem. This can also be run to around 50m I was wondering if anyone of you have used these before and had any luck or not. Thanks in advance.

This is probably a dumb question but I wanted to ask other people before I ran out and bought $200 of networking equipment. Will this set up work? Cable to my modem, then cat 6 to my gigabit LAN switch, then cat 6 to my apple airport extreme router. Thanks for your input.
