I just had to share this when I first saw it. Cleanest build I've seen, the GPU being part of the case is art. Wish more companies do it with their products, imagine msi GPU with msi case.

Why do the Fractal Torrent cases suffer in GPU temps compared to Lian Li Lancool II Mesh and the Phanteks P500A? Benchmark (yes, I've checked all the benchmarks for their individual cases to make sure there is consistency among the different tests). All 3 are similar designs--the Torrent has 2x 180mm front intakes and 3x 140mm bottom intakes, the Lancool II Mesh includes 2x 140mm front intakes and 1x 120 back intake, and the P500A] includes 3x 140mm front intakes--these stock fan and configuration are used for the GN benchmarks. The lack of rear exhaust in the Fractal Torrent does not make any real difference (1 degree cooler), probably within margin of error and makes sense since Torrent does not include one. Speaking of which, the benchmarks are despite the 3x 140mm bottom intakes which should aid the GPU. I doubt removing them improves the result, since they were included. The Lancool II Mesh also has the option for adding 2 x 120mm bottom intakes which IIRC further drops its already impressive result by 3 degrees. I would think the larger 180mm fans in the Torrent does well in noise-normalized tests. The Torrent Compact tells a similar story--excelling in CPUs like the aforementioned cases, but like the Torrent also has significantly higher GPU temps among the best CPU temps performer. The Compact version does not include bottom intakes but its smaller size should have more of a positive effect with the massive front intake being able to direct more airflow through a shorter distance to the GPU. The Torrent cases do have a filter, but IIRC this is at most 3 degrees difference and does not prevent the case from achieving the best CPU temp. Interestingly, it appears none of Fractal's cases ever do well on GPU *when you consider* their simplistic and seemingly foolproof design prioritizing airflow via front intakes and tend to perform above average to having the best CPU temps. Don't get me wrong, its GPU temps are fine among your average case and certainly nothing to worry about. I'm just curious what in the design is the result of lackluster GPU temps. I was guessing it's due to lack of strong static pressure fans, but I doubt the stock fans on the Lancool II Mesh and P500A cases are significantly better and it's not like they are smaller cases to compensate via concentrated airflow in a smaller area. They don't even need bottom intake fans or larger 180mm front intakes to achieve the best GPU temps *while also having excellent* CPU *and* HDD temps (something that Fractal also does not care for in the Torrent/Meshify 2 series, designating 3.5" drives to side panels or the top of the case where they receive no passive airflow).

For anyone out there who's gearing up to design their own case, but not sure where to start, Protocase's Christa (our Engineering and Design Services manager) has published a new blog post that goes over all of the basics of enclosure design. She covers metal selection, bending, cutouts/fasteners, welding and finishing. Hoping it'll be helpful for newcomers to designing custom cases. I have a design for a case design that I think very well could disrupt case design for the forseeable future. (As hyperbolic as that might sound I believe it might be true.) I've done some rough 3d modeling of it in sketchup and now I need to figure out a way of turning it into a product without having it cloned before I can ever get it there. Which means I need to get people involved but protect my design. Can you use a 3D general concept model as "prior art?" And how would I go about protecting myself?

A lot of modern cases are shipping with no mounts for optical drives in the front. No room for DVD drives, CD, Blu-ray. I am well aware most physical media is dying off, but with the amount the government still uses (usb flash drives being completely prohibitive) mastered burned discs are still very much necessary, especially in my line of work. I am curious if a PCI-E DVD/CD drive exists? Is one even possible? Is there anything in PCI-E slot tech that prevents optical drives being used? I would find a optical drive in the back of my PC very handy in the those few used cases where it is necessary, reducing the cable clutter and desk clutter of having a external USB powered DVD drive. Thanks for your feedback.

I was thinking of designing my own custom case from scratch. Anyone know of any software good for designing cases? I have "sketch up" installed in my system any other suggestions

(im the guy with the atari and the disturbingly low IQ) im looking for the best software to 3d model, line draw, or in whatever process you can think of for car design and pc case design. ive got a ton of ideas for pc case designs, my personal favorate being what i call ATAROS, but have no software at this time that i can truly create my ideas in. my criteria: - preferably in VR - ive found that line drawing (ie; not blender) gives me the best result - cheap, though if its amazing price shall not matter. - must work in windows 10 Thanks for the suggestions! -acrain7 ps ill design a car after the person who gives the best result

Hello forum, I want to get some feedback on a following case design. Note that I have no experience in designing a custom case nor even a case mod; however, I am familiar with dimensions of computer components. I've made the following diagram using windows publisher (no fancy CAD softwares) with dimensions of each component carefully inputted so that everything would be in relative dimension to the overall case dimension. If anything, I rounded up the dimensions of each component when converting millimeters to inches. A little bit of background for the purpose of this case: I am involved in and handle the tech for a Christian ministry that travels often and creates/present contents on the go. I have recently been looking into building a computer so that we can use a single computer to handle presentations/digital audio mixing in worship services, and video editing out of worship services. Until now, we have been using a laptop to do these tasks, but I want to move into using a desktop for it. In our rack, we use the Behringer XR18 mixer, which is a 3U 18 channel digital mixer; along with it, we have a 1U power conditioner, a 1U of wireless receivers, and 1U of networking gears, all of which are 19" wide as standard of rackmounted gears, but not even 7" deep after considering the space needed for plugging in cables. My goal is to design a mini ITX case that will fit within the 17" wide, 3U tall (5.25 inches), and less than 10" deep. It isn't really that our ministry has a ton of money to just drop and make custom cases, but I do want to imagine a compact/portable/powerful all-in-one machine that I can personally save up to build. I think 19" rackmount cases have this special identity where the width of the case is predetermined, and the height of the case moves up only in set increments (1.75"). Maximizing space efficiency has to do with trading off between just depth and height, instead of the traditional 3-dimensional optimization. Design: (H x W x D) by looking from the front of the case. - Case: 5.25" x 17" x 10" (The thickness of the case material was NOT accounted for. The standard rack width is 19" but that is with the rack ears, so I removed 2".) - Motherboard: 3" x 6.7" x 6.7" - R9 Nano: 4" x 1.7" x 6" (The power cable for the R9 Nano is located towards the fan and not the top of the case. R9 Nano is kind of the only card that will fit the form factor. There is also a small form factor 750 Ti.) - SFX PSU: 5" x 2.5" x 4" (This is, if anything, larger than the SFX specifications. The fans can be either facing the side of the case, or the side of the motherboard depending on airflow.) - 240mm Radiator: 4.75" x 11.1" x 1.2" - 120mm Radiator: 4.75" x 6.1" x 1.2" - 120mm Fans: 4.75" x 4.75" x 1" - 5.25" Bays: 1.625" x 5.7" x 4.5" (This will probably be different per type of expansions. I was hoping to put in 2.5" hotswap bays or a physical fan controller.) - Front I/O: 1.625" x 5.7" x 4.5" (Honestly, I sized it whatever. If need be, may not even need a built in one as I can easily attach an external one.) Does this look like a feasible design? Am I a complete noob in my understanding of computer case designs? Hello guys, I am taking an unknown plunge into the world of case design here with my attempt to design an ultimate watercooling case. Here are some early renders of my concept, the design is already much improved over what you see in these renders; a serious weight loss program, much better loop design and aesthetic improvements. Ver 3.9 The way the psu draws air has been revisited, now it will draw air through the lower rad assembly, keeping the rear panel of the case looking clean.

I cant hold it back anymore!. I've been waiting for a ATX case with basement compartment and good top rad support, since i know no viable case i've spent over 9000 hours in ms paint to create this. Am i crazy ?. And please do not take the picture that serious. Opinions / suggestions / hate / love all is welcome.
