  1. So I have the Xfinity XB3 router, it’s specified as dual-band 802.11ac. I believe this to be a WiFi Wave1 device (also called a 1x1). It’s offering speeds over 700 Mbps. I’m looking at a 802.11AC wave 2 compatible motherboard (Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard) for a build. It claims to have 802.11AC 1x1 of 433Mbps, or 802.11AC 2x2 of 867Mbps. I know the 2x2 (also known as wave 2) wifi to be backwards compatible with my router’s 1x1 (wave 1) wifi; however, what I can’t seem to find anywhere I look is wether I will get the full 867Mbs using my router’s 1x1 wifi capability or if I’m only going to be getting the 433Mbps as a cap. So if I use 802.11AC 2x2 (Wave2) WiFi connection via my Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard, will I get 867 or 433Mbps? If I am capped at 433Mbps, I might as well use the MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC motherboard, which has better features and is specified for Dual-band 802.11 AC 1x1 WiFi. Please just answer my question, don't sell me on getting one or the other or a different motherboard.
  2. Hello, I couldn't find a good answer to my issue, so I wanted to ask to people with experience. I have 2 questions; 1. Do I need to cap the fps to match the monitor if the game runs faster than the monitor. (CSGO runs >200 even the monitor only outputs 144.) 2. Should I cap the fps to 60 to get smoother gameplay if the game has choppy framerate. (Metro Exodus runs between 55~170, It's playable but the stuttering is noticable.) I have a 144hz 2560x1080 ultrawide monitor with GSync enabled. As you can see this is not really my area of interest. What is the best way to approach?
  3. Hey guys so if I have a 144hz monitor and im playing a game and my frames go from 60 to 80 is it better to cap my fps at something I will always be above or should I let my fps go higher. I notice that at lower fps there is a considerable amount of input lag and the game does not look as smooth. I was thinking that capping it would me consistent frame times but i dont really know what would look better and feel the best.
  4. sorry for the bad english. i have a gigabit connection (940mb day1 700mb tested with my laptop port today) my motherboard is msi z170 gaming m5, the lan port is e2400 atheros killer, the cable is cat6, the swicth is gigabit and it always worked. since a bit i found the connection not fast as always. i found my speedtest at 140mb, i tried updating drivers, cleaning the drivers and istalling it from scratch, no luck. then i thought the lan port was broken or something because i tested the same setup with the same cable etc with my laptop and the speedtest was 700mbs , so i ordered a usb 3.0 to gigabit from amazon basics. and the results where the same.... then i tought to test the new sandbox virtual machine with windows 10 1903. and... the results were 400+ mbs.. with the hyper-v virtual ethernet adapter inside the sandbox. both the e2400 and the usb adapter are listed as 1gb links. the duplex is in autonegotiation by default in both. ipv6 is not the problem. i havent found any program that could limit the bandwith like that.. the only one was killer device center but i unistalled it. i need help. its a crazy situation. i really do not want to fresh start windows 10... to recap the cable is good beacause i can get 700+ on my other laptop i tryed resetting netsh etc with no luck the speed inside vm is 450+ and outside is 145 i tried in safe mode, still 145. qos limiter is not the cause, disabling it i only gained -1 or -2 ms of ping with the same speed. i really don't want to nuke the os.
  5. I'm getting along with a project to make a 'programmer's keypad', where keypresses type out common chunks of code in python and C (e.g. there's a key to type out a switch statement in C, or a standard file header (author, date created, etc...). This project is from the ground up, including PCB and software (I might put together a build log at some point), and part of what needs doing is finding some keycaps that have the commands printed on them. I was initially thinking stickers, but I want to make a proper job of this and reckoned that since mechanical keyboards have become so popular in the last 5-6 years that there'd be a place that will put custom decals / text on a set of kecaps. The board only has 20 'caps, but I don't mind paying for a MOQ of a full set (104 / 87 / 61) as it'll leave spare sets for friends and / or let me try out a couple of styles. Can anyone recommend a place(s) that does this sort of thing? (preferably based in UK)
  6. So I have a CAT 5e cable running from my router to my PC. I get a max of 100Mbps Download and 50Mbps upload. But my connection is 250Mbps Down. Which I get on my phone via 5Ghz wifi. Another desktop with Cat 6 has the same 100Mbps cap. Router is DIR-853 D-Link. I thought about getting a new wire.. but if all 4 wired connections are at 100Mbps something else must be causing this?
  7. Hello! First time posting here, trying to find my luck! So, in the summer, I had to downclock my R5 1600X, because it was getting too warm, or I don't know, and my PC froze at some points. After the summer, I wanted to clock back, BUT then I noticed that my CPU was running @4 GhZ (TPU II mode is ASUS's default OC setting) but with 1.525V. Now I had another thread on this on another forum, if it's safe or not, because I read that even 1.425V is overkill sometimes. Because I had OK temps, people said it's perfectly OK. It was, If we ignore the fact that later I discovered that my CPU really only used 1.375V out of that 1.525V. (I has OK temps because of that)Now, I asked ASUS's support 3-5 months ago on the matter, and they said it might get fixed by a BIOS update. SPOILERS it wasn't. (Im starting to get annoyed here)So now, here's what I don't understand: IF I use Ryzen Master and tune in the @4 GhZ, and also, tune in the 1.3975V or a little higher maybe 1.40325V or something, then it's working. CPU uses 1.3975V on all cores (Note that it was capped on 1.375V before no matter how much extra juice was there)Now what happens after applying all the settings, the PC re-boots, and it's all good. UNTIL I start the PC again, then it's stuck on 1.375V AGAIN. and the PC is ofcourse unstable, because I don't have the voltage necessarry to work. I don't understand what might cap the Core Voltages?? VDCCR (AMD's Core voltage) is on 1.3975V but the PC only uses 1.375V out of it no matter what. Also, if Im running on @3.6 GhZ (Stock speed) and have Core Performance Boost on (Automatically OC's the CPU when it senses workload) IT IS UNCAPPED and core speeds and core voltages can go as high as they want to!The only that is overclocked is my ram to have less CL time (14 16 16 34 instead of 15 17 17 36 ) and to be on 3000MhZ (Rated speed), and I have only turned off the automatic Core performance boost and some power saving stuff, since Im not running on @3.6 GhZ. (Currently found the stavle @3.925 GhZI have also uninstalled AI Suite III (ASUS's software to handle OC from the Windows). I don't know what's going on.. The PSU is brand new, and it was the same with the older one.I would appriciate any help! Here's my Spec:CPU: Ryzen 1600X Running at 4 GhZ (All air cooled) RAM: HyperX Predator 2x 8GB 3000MhZ DDR4 (16GB)GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Windforce EditionMOBO: ASUS ROG STRIX B350-f HDD: 1TB WD Blue 7200rpm , Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200rpmSSD: KINGSTON 120GB SSDNow V300 PSU: COOLERMASTER MWE Bronze 650W
  8. i am getting a lot of screen tear in portal and i know i need to cap my fps to 60 as thats what my monitor runs at and im getting 300 fps in game but i cant figure out how to do it.
  9. Hi all, This is my first post to the forums! So hear goes. I just upgraded my PC from an i5-6600k to an i7-7700k and I have been getting weird lagging issues since I upgraded it. I decided to run cinebench for fun to see how my CPU was stacking up and the result was abysmal, never thought I'd see a i7-7700 outperformed by a i5-3317. My issue is that my CPU is throttling at about 19% as shown in the attachment and avg CPU temps hove around 29°C If it matters the software I'm currently running includes: A browser with more tabs than Linus could ever imagine Control Panel Windows Settings Corsair Link (for checking CPU temp) Windows Explorer Google Hangouts and the 64-bit version of Windows 10 pro and all its bulls***t along with it. My current build: i7-7700k Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO MSI - Z170A XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM EDITION (flashed to the 7A16v14 update with support 7th gen processors) Corsair Vengence RAM (tbh i don't remember the model as it was a last minute purchase so I could finish my PC) Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2 (OS Drive) WD Black 2TB 7200RPM GALAX - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB HOF Corsair - 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX PSU Does anyone know why I'd be throttling at 19%?
  10. Hey folks, im asking if you know how to cap FPS, for example i get 200 fps in a game, but i want to cap it at 70 fps, cuz i dont want to the GPU and CPU to work more than i want to them to work, cuz i dont have a 120hz monitor, i have 60hz, so whats the point to get it to 200fps, if i dont see difference, so if you know how to cap fps, tell me please thanks in advance
  11. Greetings once again to the LTT community. Lately, I've been having some trouble keeping my download cap in check. The way it works is I get 225 GB at a reasonable speed of 8 MB/s, but when that runs out, my speed is reduced to an unbearably slow 512 KB/s, until it's renewed at the end of the month. As a result, I've been watching videos in 144p to control bandwidth, and have downright refrained from downloading any software or games for months. Unfortunately, my current living quarters are not solely my own, and the Wi-Fi network is shared by my family. A rather spiteful relative has moved in, and she's been streaming hours of YouTube content in 1080p, which turns out to have been the reason my bandwidth cap is being depleted so fast. Today is the first day of the new cycle, and although I only woke up an hour ago, eight gigabytes have already been consumed. What makes this all worse is that I'm paying for the entire bandwidth plan, which is a significant portion of what I earn in a month, and is essential to my work. Since this relative refuses to reason or always pretends they are streaming in far lower quality (usually hastily reverting to 360p just as I enter the room), I can only conclude that they won't listen to reason. Furthermore, I can't just change the network password, and their phone is password-protected, so I can't install software directly onto it. As a result, I've been looking for a way to limit the data used by particular devices through the router or network hardware itself (An Apple Time Capsule/Airport and a standard-fare NetGear Router). This has become a very serious problem, and I'm usually unable to do a lot of my work in the last week of each month due to my bandwidth cap being reached. I'd be very grateful for any help regarding the issue. Regards, Aereldor.
  12. Hey peeps So I have googled my ass off trying to figure this out, but im not a very techy guy, I just turn on my computer do schoolwork, watch youtube or play games. So with this problem im kinda lostt. My memory is currently at 95% at all times, even after a fresh restart. I had this problem before, but I was told this problem was because of memory leak, so I followed (I think it was) this post. http://www.drivethelife.com/windows-10/fix-high-ram-cpu-memory-usage-after-windows-10-update.html And the problem went away. Now it has returned, and this post does not help me anymore. Some said I have to disable Superfetch, which I realized was not enabled in the first place. This might sound stupid to those of you who knows your stuff, but when I open task manager and look at all the tasks open. It says 93-97%, but all the percentages below, does not add up to this. So again, im lost. And it looks like this problem have gotten worse after I started playing Player Unknown's Battleground, which is on itself struggling with alot of stuttering and memory issues for, I think, all players really. Does this have anything to do with it? If anyone could help me out, or even point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks
  13. Hey I was wondering, I'm building my self a new PC since my old ass macbook obviusly can't run most games (fallout 4.) But one of the things ive noticed while playng games on this laptop like csgo and half-life, portal... is that all have fps jumps from mabye 80 sometimes to 30 and its very frustrating. I would just like to know if theirs any app or anything that could (for my new PC) cap my fps at 60 but also boost my fps to a constant 60. Im fine with overclocking btw.

Im having huge problems with crysis 3. sometimes when im lucky the game runs att 100+ fps and smooth as butter on max settings but for the most part (9 out of 10) the game seem to lock itself to 64fps and i get huge framedrops down to min 32fps and not one frame under that, it seems totaly random. This only happens with crysis 3, it never happens with other games. I have tried one gtx 780 and two gtx 780 in sli but its the same thing on all settings. Even if i put everything on low it does this. drops from 64 to 32 at random. has anyone had this happen to you or know how to fix it? All other games i have tried work perfectly
  15. So, I recently took apart my Corsair VS 550 PSU to change the stock fan with a Noctua one I had and to my disappointment, I found out that Corsair were using crappy CapXon branded capacitors. Naturally, I had to change these, as they are known to be among the worst of the bad. As this forum is for modding, I'm not going to cover the things you should have in mind when replacing bad capacitors. There are a lot of exhaustive tutorials out there. Let's get started. Here's our patient: And here are our replacements. While Samwha are not the best caps out there, they're the only ones my local electronics store had and I certainly feel much safer with them. Plus, they're 105 C rated. Here's a look inside the PSU: A closer look reveals the mixture of Aishi and CapXon caps: Here's my 'map', showing where to put the capacitors and how to orient them. If you're doing such mod, you should definitely make one of these, as wrong markings on the PCB are not rare and the capacitance on each spot is not marked. I didn't bother to write down the voltage ratings, as all the stock caps are rated for up to 6.3, 10 or 16 volts, and I'm going to be replacing them all with 25V caps just to have bigger safety margin. And here's what the PSU looks like with the caps unsoldered: Here we have the stock "CrapXon" and Aishi ones: And here's the final result. The 25V caps turned out bigger than I expected, so some of them ended up lifted off the PCB. That, I think, is fine, as long as there's no way for the leads to short. Now all I had to do was solder the fan back on and assemble the PSU. I don't have the tools to measure ripple, but like I said, I feel safer knowing that there aren't any more of the CapXon caps inside my PSU. The benefits of doing this mod are longer lifespan and no danger of damaging other components in your PC when the caps go bad ('cause if they are CapXon branded, they will most probably fail eventually). Have fun replacing caps!
  16. Looking for that cool custom feel? Well I sure am. So how about you fine people hop on over to this webpage and design me a set of key caps eyy? Simply click here I am definitely going to purchase a set of key caps and am stuck on ideas and am looking for a awesome, custom and unique design. Feel free to post a screen shot of your design bellow. Ta. Edit: PLEASE DON'T QUOTE OR THIS THREAD COULD GET MESSY For example:
  17. I've been in a lot of discussion with some of my friends and brothers about the mythical 30 FPS cap on the XBOX 360 and the PS3. On some games that makes sense but they say it's all games and everything about them. I've played more Forza 3 than I'm willing to admit, and that game along with games like COD (echk), side-scrolling platformers, 2-D games, and general things of that sort look like they have much more than just 30 FPS, especially things like Forza 3's decal maker. (TL;DR) So my main question is: Do the current gen consoles have a 30 FPS limiter?
  18. Hi, so I learnt recently that monitors can only show frames as much as the refresh rate, for example, my 75Hz monitor can only show 75FPS as a maximum, and any remaining frames are excess and aren't shown. I've wondered, does anyone else limit/cap their FPS (not to be confused with V-sync) in games? In Overwatch and CSGO, I always limit my FPS to 75 due to aforementioned monitor refresh rate, and it feels nice. The reason I say that is because I feel like the excess frames are using up more resources? I don't know if it's just me.
  19. Yo is there anyone can tell me what are the best FPS limiter ? i'm actually using AMD FRTC,but i heard that this software adds much input lag . is that true ? should i use RTSS ? bcz i want to play with Freesync and my monitor range is (48-75hz) and im getting in all my games 80+fps in max settings but unfortunately i have some game that dont have FPS limiter so i need a software that cap my fps with low input lag.
  20. WELL i was repasting a cpu on a laptop i just bought. 600 australian dollarydoos for an i7 4720hq and 970m alienware 15 WHAT. A. STEAL. it only had minor aesthetic damage and still came with the box. Anyway. The factory paste goop was all over the caps so i decided to just clean it a little tiny bit incase the new paste touched it and somehow affected something. And *crack* FELL OFF Can this be repaired? I have an extremely trained eye from nature of my work, im guessing its about 0.25x0.25x0.85mm Is there a god in flesh on earth with the skill?
  21. Alright, full disclaimer, I don't mean to sound like an ass, and I'm at work so I am not going to be the best at formatting this and making sure of proper spelling/grammar, so please, excuse it. Something that is literally a day to day concern of mine is my bandwidth limit on my home internet, its bad, I have 200 mb/s speeds down and like 15 mb/s up with a 500 gb cap(very low imo) and I can't be bothered to buy into their higher caps cause they are just stupid expensive. My setup in my house, consists of 5 people, my girlfriend and my self each have a laptop, and a gaming pc, with a tv and an Xbox one. My Roommates collectively have pretty much the same stuff going on. However only one of them connects to my internet. Now, I understand if I am streaming in HD/4k bandwidth will be eaten up very quickly, but we don't, I keep my YouTube at like 360p and my Netflix is throttled via their website to the lowest possible setting, and it still just eats it up. I just simply don't understand these bandwidth caps? I don't know how to get it down, it just doesn't make any sense. Just a rant, I really don't mean to sound douchey, I know I'm just gonna have to put up the cash to upgrade to a higher bandwidth. It just drives me nuts. (side note I am a pretty techy guy, but not the best at this kind of stuff so I am going to avoid really specific terminology and arguing about the difference between megabit and megabyte like it always seems to come up in network talks, seriously, I don't care.)
  22. Ok, let me explain, back in 2015 We switched from at&t internet (15 download 6 upload) to cox internet (100 download 10 upload). Everything was fine and dandy through the holiday season no hidden fees, no hoops to jump through, it seemed perfect. but there was a law Passed recently in Ohio (where I am currently residing) where they can no longer slow down the internet speed (Throttle) when more people were on the internet in my area. A month after out bill on Christmas day, they put this data usage cap OF ONLY 700GB per month! and if you go over its $10 per 50gb you go over. Now YouTube and Netflix are playing constantly around the house with 5 family members You can see how fast the data just disappears. But I noticed that when we would start getting close to the data cap (about 100gb's left) That the videos would just buffer non stop. And to get a constant watchable non buffer video I would have to watch at 240P! wtf is that? Since then we have upgraded to 300 download and 30 upload with a 2000Gb limit. But that throttling that was going on, Can we sue them? Should we even try? any help is appreciated!
  23. Okay, so I'm not sure since when this is happening, but recently I noticed my laptop (asus K56CB) with i5-3337U @1.8Ghz that most of the time operates on boost clock speeds @2.5Ghz. After few days of not restarting the laptop (hibernate, sleep) it caps itself to 0.99Ghz and laptop slows down significantly. First time I found it capped I found someone fixing this with updating ATK package so after installing it and restarting it, clocks speeds were back to normal, but after some time not restarting the laptop it capped itself again. The laptop is always plugged in so this shouldn't be a power plan problem. Is there a way to fix this? Or is this some sort of way Windows 10 forcing you to restart, so they can run their updates? I'm new to forums, but I've been watching Linus Tech Tips for a while. I'm open to any suggestions or discussion. Thanks in advance
  24. Hey guys, I got a 780ti at the start of Feb, and got a custom loop soon after, and its been running quite nice and cool for a while now. The problem however is that my overclocks don't seem to much better as the voltage of the card seems to be capped at 1.187v no matter ho far I crank them up in kepler bios tweaker. the skynet bios also dosent work on my version of the card (zotac 780ti oc) due to a bios id mismatch, so im stuck playing around in KBT. In msi afterburner even before I played around with the bios, the voltage control slider did practically nothing. I was pleased at first as it appeared that I had a whole 75mv to play with as oppose to the 12mv I had on the previous 760's, however at least that actually did something... on the topic of msi afterburner, the voltage, and max ov limit always seem to be tripped, even if the card is on the stock bios, and running at stock clocks/ volts. I'm fairly pleased with the card, but it bothered me that im not able to change fairly fundamental aspects of the gpu, even with a modded bios...
  25. I have been looking at key caps for about a week now and I can't seem to find what I am looking for, every single website i've been to has not had ABS Black Clear Lettering Ninja keys caps ( Black Ninja caps with clear lettering) I really want to get them for a rgb keyboard. If you just so happen to know where to buy these key caps in full QWERTY set please let me know.
