So i installed this 256 GB SSD on my laptop optical bay back in May. I relocate my games from the main disk to the new one and at first everything works perfectly. I notice a little performance issue on some games load time but not significant. But recently i cant even load my games anymore. This is the CDM test result. The disk was on 100% usage throughout the test on Task Manager. I have checked the disk health and defragment and see no result. Would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance

I have an Inspiron 14 5000, and I've been thinking about breathing in new life into this dying PC. Is it possible to replace the DVD drive with an SSD caddy? And can I boot from the caddy?

So, my system build that will begin in 2 weeks will have one 525gb ssd as my C:\ drive and one 1-2tb HDD, I would like to eliminate my HDD cages. I am wondering if 2.5" HDDs will fit in the tool less ssd holders inside my Corsair Obsidian 750D. I don't want to buy one to try, because if they don't, I won't be using 2.5" drives. Thank you.

I have a Lenovo Z51-70 and I want to install an ssd. I want to use a caddy replacing the disk tray but I cant see the ssd neither in bios or in windows. Sometimes I am able to find it in the windows explorer but if I reboot it's lost again.

so I have an idea I want to build an adapter in order to be able to replace my cd drive from my macbook pro with an hdd I know caddys are cheap, but I like playng arround, and since I have acces to a solder i was thinking to build an adapter myself. The question is that i dont know how caddys work, i asume that they are just passive adapters with no electronics, but I want to make sure that there is no neet for any electronics in order to connect my hdd via cdrom port, Thanks

So I ordered a Dell Optiplex 9020 Mini Tower today. The system I ordered comes with a 1 TB hard drive, though looking to add the SSD as the master drive to put windows on. Dell seems to have proprietary features in place. I have been having some troubles to easily locate a backet/caddy for a SSD. Are there any after market alternatives you can point me in the right direction with. Cheers

Hello everyone, I'm looking into swapping out the HDD in my laptop, and replace it with an SSD (500gb). Now, i heard about optical hdd/ssd caddies for laptops, and i was wondering if i would run into any problems, specifically when it comes to temperatures, if i shoved my old HDD in a caddy?... Not sure how much it matters, but the HDD in question is the "ST750LM000-1EJ16G" drive, laptop is the ASUS N56JN-CN038H. Currently, my drive doesn't hit much over 50/55 degrees celsius, but as a caddy would completely enclose the thing, i'm wondering if that temperature would go up, or if it could influence the temps on FI my CPU/GPU? Cheers! :3

Hello fellow fans! I created a really rough cut video of how I built an 8-bay Atomos Sata Caddy Cage on our ingestion server in our studio. Please excuse the video, it's of poor quality for I did it on the fly and the noise in the server room is bad! Anyway, the cage is up and running and works well as a hot-swap after we come back from our shoots, but I need to complete the project by creating a script that does the following: When an Atomos SSD Caddy is inserted into the cage I'd like the system to know that it is indeed an Atomos Caddy. (I can trigger off the fact that it's the only time an exFAT drive is inserted into the system) Here's the workflow in a nutshell: 1. Insert up to 8 drives into the bay (hot plug) 2. Drive insertion triggers a batch file/script that copies the files into a specific folder on our production server (my AME Watch folders) 3. Verify that the files have been successfully copied to the server (I'll use robocopy or freefilesync - this is easy) 4. (I may choose to format the drives after the copy, but that's after I'm comfortable with the verification process) 4. Simply "hot-pulling" the drives for use on the next shoot Here are some details about the system: OS: Windows Server 2019 Motherboard: Supermicro Server Motherboard C7P67 REV 1.03 RAM: 32GB DDR3 CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3570 Processor | 6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz Drives: -1 260GB SATA SSD BOOT - (The cage I built) supports 8 SAS/SATA 2.5" and now My Atomos Master Caddy drives (what a relief!) SAS Drive Cage Backplane: Taken from an HP ML350 G5 rack server (and modified to fit in 2-5.25" drive bays) (two SF-8484 connectors fan out to 4 SATA Connectors each, totaling 8 Devices) Cage Connection to MB: (Qty2) SF8484 32-pin SAS fan-out connector to 4 SATA cables directly to the available 8 SATA ports on the MB (there are 8 onboard, plus I have another PCIe Raid Card if needed) Thanks in advance for your help! I scoured the web and couldn't find anything. Rob Blanda, CaddisArt Inc. The (very crude, noisy and boring) video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1UUuB9TTdU (I'll make a new one once I can complete the scripting) Thank you all very much for helping to guide me!

Hey, there! I recently thought of upgrading my HP-15-ac042tu. So, instead of swapping my HDD for an SSD (I don't have that kinda budget, which you might have guessed by the laptop), I went for a 128 gigs SSD, which is more than enough for a Windows installation and Office. I installed a caddy, replacing the optical drive. The SSD is loaded and I can transfer content without a hiccup. But, the problem is that I can't install Windows on it using any installation media (Installation says that I'm installing on a DVD which my BIOS might not support). So, I tried installing the OS on my computer, then putting the SSD inside the laptop and creating new boot files. But I can't boot the drive (disk read error). I've enabled VT and 'boot from CD' in the BIOS. Am I missing something?

Hi guys. I’m having a problem. My HP 8460p is running Windows 10. I just bought a drive bay (caddy) to install a second hdd inside, instead of the dvd drive. After installation of the hard drive, I booted up the laptop and under “Computer” it is shown as a second “D” hard drive. However, I noticed an overall slowing down of the system after installing it, even for tasks that run of the main C drive. An a major problem is that if I put the computer to sleep, it actually doesn’t go to sleep, the screen turns off but I can tell by the sound of the fan and the leds, that the laptop is still on or doing something. Even though the screen is black. out of this state, is is unable to “ wake” up or turn the screen back on. I have to force shutt down and start new again. Secondly, while running the system, If i would to “restart” instead of sleep, it does the same, it doesn’t completely shut down, leds are on, screen is black, but nothing happens. Need to force shut off and start up again. Does anyone have an idea what I did wrong? Or how to fix this? I checked the BIOS and the boot order is “internal C” hard drive first. After taking out the drive bay, the laptop speed is back up and sleep and restart does work. Thank you!

Hello everyone! I bought an MSI GE62 6QD a while ago and I'm really happy with it. However, the 128GB SSD fills up quite easily and I'd like a separate SSD to install games on. The laptop comes with a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. At first, I thought I had an extra slot for a 2nd SSD, but apparently, it's just the HDD slot that can also be used for an SSD. I could make the switch, but I'd like to keep my HDD as well. After doing some research, I found out about HDD caddies that can be installed in the optical disk drive slot. Luckily, the GE62 comes with that, so the way I understand it, is that I can remove the disk drive (which I don't use anyway...) and install one of those caddies. That way, I could put my HDD in the caddy and place a second SSD where the HDD used to be. So here are my questions: 1) Does this work? Does anyone have experience with HDD caddies? I've looked a few up and they seem kinda flimsy. 2) Will this caddy decrease the speed of my HDD (in a noticeable way)? 3) I have a Samsung 850 EVO SSD that I could put in the HDD spot, but can I put a regular SSD in a laptop? Will it get damaged? Thank you very much for your helpful responses! I appreciate it!

Hi, I have a problem where Windows 10 would load things extremely slowly and boots very slow too. My setup is a Asus N56VZ with the latest BIOS. Hard drive bay is populated with a SSD but it is installed with Linux (I do everything there except for gaming). Windows is installed in the HDD which is mounted in the optical drive via a caddy. However, Windows 8.1(previously) has no problems when it was installed in the HDD mounted in the hard drive bay. So I was wondering, does the optical drive bay sata port performs worse compared to the sata for the hard drive bay? Oh and the HDD activity light lights up most of the time when programs load very slowly but I can't find what is using up all the disk time. Task Manager shows disk usage being 100%. I kept the startup programs to a minimal and I don't think there are viruses or malware running. Have BitDefender and MalwareBytes up and running since Windows installation. I tried uninstalling them but the problem persists. Asus N56VZ Windows 10 Home 64 bit Core i5 3210M 12GB RAM GTX650M Crucial M550 128GB SSD Hitachi 5600RPM 750GB HDD I have checked the SMART data using speedfan but nothing is out of the norm. There seems to be nothing wrong with the drivers, nothing is being flagged. Anything else you guys suggest I try apart from reinstalling windows? And I don't want to install Windows in the SSD.

Hello everyone, I live in India. I currently own a Lenovo Y510P laptop with the following specifications: Intel Core i7 4700MQ 2.4 GHz (Turbo boost upto 3.4 GHz) processor 8 GB RAM 1TB 5400rpm hard disk Nvidia 755m graphics card I use my laptop to browse the internet, watch a lot of tv shows and play a few games (like GTA V, Sleeping Dogs, Watch Dogs, NFS Rivals, GRID 2 usually). I'm looking to upgrade the hard disk. I have two options: 1) I can go for a 1 TB SSHD and ditch my old 1TB 5400 rpm HDD. 2) I can add 120GB SSD by removing my dvd drive and adding the ssd in hdd caddy and then inserting that back into the laptop. Which will give me overall better performance that the order? I know there won't be an FPS increase but loading time will go down. Also, my laptop will boot up and function at a much better rate. Few things to note, I'm on a tight budget as I'm still a student. I found the parts in question at the following prices: Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB SSD Internal Hard Drive (MZ-75E120) for Rs. 5070. HDD Caddy for Rs. 1199. Seagate Solid State Hybrid Drive 9.5 mm thickness 1 TB Laptop Internal Hard Drive (ST1000LM014) for Rs. 6525. Also, advice me if there's a better SSD or SSHD out there for the price. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to SSDs and all. I only shop from Flipkart and Amazon India. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster here! I didn't know where to post my question, hope this is the right place. Anyway: I own a 2009ish Sony Vaio VPCEB1J8E and it's slow as hell. Since I'm a student, I absolutely have to keep it as alive and functional until I graduate. TWO long years. So I thought about getting an SSD for the OS, MS Office and very important programs and buying a caddy to replace my optical drive for the HDD. I don't know if I can post links to a store, I'm putting it under spoiler Some questions for you: - What do you think about it? This way I could always re-use the SSD when I'll finally build a decent system. - Have you got any suggestion for the SSD? It should be a decent, budget-friendly one  Which size do you suggest? I thought about 60Gb. My budget is around 60-70€ (20 are for the caddy). Keep in mind that I'm from Italy and Pcpartpicker Italia only checks amazon.it so it's not very useful for me. Just use the equation 1$=1€ because prices here are higher. Thanks in advance, I'm sorry if I made any language mistakes. Grazie mille!

So, I plan on buying a Lenovo G505s in a month (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312830) for light, cheap gaming. I wanted to also buy an SSD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247) and put the original hard drive in an ODD caddy. Here is the problem. I am unsure of the thickness of the drive, and I don't know whether to buy this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817997049) or this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1ZZ0PS8638) I would have contacted Lenovo about this, but they require the ownership of a product to receive customer support. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but since the main focus is a storage solution, I felt it was correct. If not, may a moderator please move this for me to the proper section? Thanks in advance. EDIT: And don't worry, I plan on buying more RAM.
