Hello I have this laptop: Acer Aspire VX15 / VX5-591G. The problem is fans are spinning 100% since the GPU "fried". The only solution I found to control the fans is RWeverything and replace value 189 in EC tab. It is set to "12" now. I did some research and found out that default is 52 (auto fan speeds based on temps). After changing the value laptop runs great. But there is no option to autorun this program and setting. I need to open program every startup with fans blasting max, then tediously tweak the setting. Is there any other way to permanently store the setting in ROM? or autorun RWeverything on startup + the settings, or any other way to disable / unsolder whatever the GPU out? How GPU fried: For the past months ntb had about 4 BSODs about GPU and sometimes LCD just went randomly off (mostly while playing video, thats when dedicated GPU starts) after a while I assume the GTX 1050 burnt. It's not showing up in BIOS or system anymore, it's not a problem ntb is old and since it's used just for work, it's okay to run only on integrated Intel 630. Thanks much!

Hi everyone, I've got a 2080 and 3700x on a hardline loop. Have had it for a while now. I had to replace a faulty power supply (Silver Stone strider gold 850w), because it would just power off my pc almost immediately when turning on. Long story short, i did buy it new, but cannot claim warranty. So i replaced it with a new silver stone et700 80plus gold, and it fixed the problem immediately. I mention this because other forums about burnt gpu connectors blame the psu. I dont even bother putting a permanent overclock on, its always stock, except for the last 3 days when i started mining on my pc. Years ago ive done the same thing. My memory clock was on +1200 on afterburner (which didnt display artifacting when testing and ran fine for a little while). After a night of mining the pc would stop displaying anything (but still be on completely fine) i quickly realised the gpu is at fault. So i reset cmos and booted and then put the clock at 1000+ and it was fine over night mining. But then when i used it this morning, it showed no display again. I then disconnected the connector and saw the 8 pin was broken? The extra two pin isnt photed (https://ibb.co/CHtxZxh, on the right), luckily i have spare pcie extensions, soon after i saw 3 of the pins were burnt (https://ibb.co/jkrqvTS, https://ibb.co/nw4W77P). At the moment I've used a clean tooth brush and lightly brushed inside the connector with isopropyl alcohol. Although it doesn't look like its done too much. Ive drained my loop now to have a better look at the gpu out of the loop and i thought well, what do i do now? It isn't really my power supply is it? Have i been that unlucky with two faulty psu's?! If it is my psu, am i even able to claim warranty, and what about my 2080? Also, the temperatures are still really good, cpu at 63c under load and gpu at 51c under load. Thank you for your help!

Hello Linus community. I have a situation and need to know how to proceed. 1st, the background. I was getting the blue screen of death randomly yesterday, then after it rebooted the system would hang at loading the highpoint rocketraid card. So manually reboot and it worked, onto windows we went. But then at random intervals later bluescreen again. And again hanging at highpoint rocketraid card. After mucking around trying to fix it (driver updates ect...) to no avail, I just left the system running and went to sleep. Next morning, BOOM, the smell of fried circuitry. But alas, system was in windows happy and snappy but no rocketraid card detected at all. Now until I had opened the case and seen the damaged I didn't know what I had smelt was burned circuitry, so I had the system running for a good few hours before I decided to look inside to find the culprit, and holly heck it did some damage. (check photos here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11mT3JOGVim74PC6FqKNY_Pb8kKylNr_h?usp=sharing or attached) Now to my question. I know that the system will boot into windows and run, it was doing that for several hours al be it on idle. But I feel like I've just dodged a burnt down house and that my mind and gut is telling me "don't you dare plug that system back in until you've replaced the motherboard!" I'm going to lean on your experience here because this has never happened to me before. Do I plug it back in and see how it goes, or replace the motherboard before I even consider plugging it back in. Or are there even other options like disabling the damaged PCIE lane to mitigate any risks so I can carry on using the rig. Your thoughts please and thanks

Hi, i did overclock a Athlon 200Ge and made a mistake (Asus Bios btw) i just put 4.4Ghz and added 0.20000v VDDCR Cpu voltage (numbers was yellow) and then the pc won't boot. I manage to make it boot but now Cpu-z and Cpu benchmark says that it's an 1 Core 1 Thread processor... Did i burnt one of the cores? Was high Voltage the mistake or the 4.4Ghz? Is there a chance that i can fix it?

So I recently built my pc using a corsair h100i platinum cooler, I've had no problems with the cooler up until now that it got burned out. Long story short I'm not able to control my case fans speed so a splitter was installed and the cooler burned out when the pc turned on. I got a reply for the cooler, installed it and again it burned out when it turned on. My question now is what's causing this, the psu or motherboard ? My pc started turning off and on rapidly when I installed the new cooler and turned the pc on.

Hi, everyone. I need your virtues in troubleshooting some hardware issue. TLDR: I built a new PC outside of the case, I can get into BIOS (w/o any storage) just to check some stuff. Turned off the PC, then connected a Samsung SSD (the one used in my old PC) Turned on the PC, SATA data cable connected to my SSD hissed and burnt out (only the cable was damaged and whole length really hot). Turned off the PC immediately. Turned on w/o SSD > BIOS stated the rest of my component was fine (thank God!). Tried 2 other SATA data cables same result. Tried plugging old WD HDD with SATA, PC won't turned on. Just flashed all LED with noticeable 'click' sound but nada. Unplugged HDD, now can't use the new PC. Anyone might have experienced this issue? Please help me out if you have any insight on the issue. I tried paperclipping the PSU and it worked just fine. I used the PSU until last night with my old PC and worked well. Mobo has no visible faulty nor has any burnt mark anywhere. Everything was fine except when the SSD I tried to connect using SATA cable. Should I buy M.2 NVME storage and try it out? I'd like to save as much money as possible, not knowing what would be the result with the M.2 storage. Should I buy new PSU? In case its something wrong the the voltage or something. Is my Samsung SSD can still be used? All the gold pins looked fine, I haven't tried reinstalling it back to my old PC. Thank you everyone, really appreciate any respond, I need the discussion. My system component: CPU Ryzen 5 5600X Mobo MSI B550m Pro PSU Corsair CS750M (this one from my old PC, its 7,5 years old now) Memory Klevv 2x8gb 3200mhz GPU Zotac 1660Super

I present to you my PSU power cable! As you can see is all burned and twisted due to heat, I already replaced the cable so i'm currently writing this from my PC with no problem, however i'm very curious as how this could have happened? I have a Ryzen 5 1600x overclocked to 3.9ghz paired with a RTX3070 and 32Gb of ram running at 3200mhz, all powered by an 850w XPG psu 80+Gold. This issue happened while i was playing Microsoft Flight Simulator. Could it be a bad cable? or genuinely i sucked up so much power that made my cable toast?

Hello LTT Forum, first Post here out of necessity. I've had my PC for about a year now, and today my AIO started acting weird. It refuses to spin correctly, makes a weird clacking noise and my PC smells burnt. The smell is really strong too, but so smoke anywhere and no obvious damage on any component. I added a vid of my AIO during the startup sequence. YouTube Link because the file was too large: https://youtube.com/shorts/0tBGxr2Lw1E?feature=share

so i got a gtx 1050 ti like a year ago and it was great, so a month ago my power supply burned making a buzzing sound, when i took it to the pc repairman told me that the power supply was burned and then bought a new one from him, the next day when we picked it up he told us that the graphics card burned but it didn't look "phisically burned", so my mom is trying to use the warranty that came with the graphicsa card but i want to know if it's possible to repair it or make a good excuse so i can actually get a new one. help!

I need help identifying burnt SMD Component (Transistor) with the Marking Code of 26H38 from Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce OC 8GB.. If possible, you can provide me any available schematics or replacement for the damaged SMD Component. Other notes: I've searched the SMD Component from a Russian site http://www.chip.tomsk.ru, but i can't find any specific marking code for (26***). meanwhile S-Manuals got me interested (http://www.s-manuals.com/smd/26), I was close, but still.... What is the component's size? SOT-23,SOT-323 or something else?.. Possible Identification: "26***"; 26*3**; or 26H; the H38 - might be a date code.

Hi, today I got burned one of the chips above RGB header, my PC turned off immediatelly. I disconnected the led strip and after turning it on, it turned off after about a minute, but after third turn on now everything works fine, but I'm not sure if I have to buy a new motherboard ASAP or I can use this without connecting anything near the RGB header. I attached a photo what it looks like above that RGB header. I did not find anything else burned. Specs: PSU: Gigabyte P550B Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 D CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 duo GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC RAM: Gigabyte 2x8GB 2666 MHz M.2 SSD: Gigabyte 256GB HDD: Seagate 2TB 7200rpm Case: Silentiumpc Signum sg1x tg rgb

Hi, this is my first time building pc and i did the following I have a lian li controller that controls fans and it needs to be hooked to 2 SATA power supplies and 1 usb header to work. I hooked up fans to this connector, and just plugged in the 15pin SATA power supplies. And then I switched on the PSU. At this point no other device was connected to psu not even the motherboard, i just wanted to check if fans would run, also the controller was only connected to psu and fans and no other connections were done(usb to mobo was not done basically) . Within 5seconds I could smell burnt plastic kind of smell from both PSU and controller. I am not sure if this is compatibility issue or I need to plug in everything in for controller and then only connect psu sata connector. Now I am very scared to go ahead with any kind of build and am not sure if the PSU is faulty, was it my fault that I didn't connect all the wires of fan controller, was the fan controller faulty. Please I need some suggestion or help. I am very new to this forum, so very sorry if I do something wrong, any guidance will be really appreciated. Thanks

Hi! Recently my Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (rev1.0) has had a mosfet catch fire I want to repair the board, as I will send it to a store specialized in this kind of repair, but I need the model of the mosfet that blew off, if someone is kind enough to provide me with a high-res photo of the interested area (pictured in the attachments) I would be so happy! I tried asking on reddit, but got no luck, I opened a ticket to gigabyte, but they couldn't help as the card is out of warranty. Thank you for reading

Hi guys I'm going straight to my problem. One of my Titan's died a couple of days ago. The model is this one https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/GTXTITAN6GD5 After the shutdown of death, I removed the card and saw one of the vrm mosfets on smoke! Don't ask why, I always had perfects temps, not overclocked, voltage@1V max. I removed the burnt mosfet to replace it but the thing is I'm out of warranty and Asus won't give me any info on the mosfet part number.(as expected) So I'm asking if there is anyone who may know sth about the mosfet models used for the Titan or at least where I could find a similar one. I'm willing to give a try before throwing the card. (the photo shows which mosfet is missing)

When I went home to install it i noticed these three marks on the backside where one was larger and the components seems to have something black, almost hairy, around then.(See pictures) is this burnt? Any safe way I can test or should I just contact the guy and ask for refund? It is a Asus GTX 1070 8GB Dual OC Thanks for help! I'm really nervous! /Erik

Hi. So since I built my loop about 3 months ago, I have noticed some slight brownish tinge to the flex tube next to my pump. I used quality liquid from EKWB. I read that it could be some lube from the gaskets? Anyway, I didn't really pay attention to it unitll this evening when I heard a strange deeper whirring than usual and some occasional popping, Now there is a burnt smell, the water is not flowing, and the pump is far to hot to touch. I presume the pump died due to a PSU failure, hence the popping and extreme heat on the pump. Obviously I need to replace the items. As you can see in the pics the tubing next to the pump is very gunky looking, and there appears to be a residue coating the resevoir as well. Why is this? Was this a failure waiting to happen? I also do not have much ventilation near the pump. Should I put an additional fan near the pump?

Hi all. I purchased a used gaming computer for pretty cheap. Inside there was an Asrock Z68 Pro 3 board with an i5 2500k, 8GB of Corsair 1600MHz RAM, an EVGA GTX 780 and a 680W Psu. The computer ran fine when i tested it before I bought it. When I brought it homr it fired up right away without any problems aswell. Since it had no HDD or SSD I couldnt get into an OS, which is fine by me because I checked everything out in the BIOS. Now I took it apart to clean it up and saw a burnt chip above the PCI-E 16x slot. Im not sure exactly what its used for but I don't believe its for anything important, since the board works perfectly. I haven't tested it in anything heavier than just browsing around and I am afraid to do so because of this. I'm scared about it shorting out or something like that when I try to run a heavier task like a game. If any of you know what that chip actually does I would appreciate it! 2 days ago, while I was gaming on my pc, it suddenly shut down, something inside my pc emitted a moderate "bang", followed by a bit of smoke and the smell of something burnt. I checked inside my PC but nothing catched my inmediate attention. Upon further inspection, I narrowed down the problem to the graphics card. I took off the backplate of my EVGA GTX 1070 SC and found what is shown on the pic I uploaded. Other PC components are fine, but my PC now won't boot when the graphics card is installed. My graphics card's warranty has expired unfortunately, and would like to know if this can be fixed in some way. If not, well ill just wait for the new Ampere line of Graphics cards. Not sure if its relevant but my other PC Specs are: i5 6500 3.2ghz CPU Msi b150 m3 MOBO evga 600b Bronze PSU 16gb Kingston 2400mhz RAM 128 gb ssd kingston - 1tb WD Blue - 2tb WD Green - STORAGE Corsair Carbide 400c CASE

I built my first PC a week ago and it was working perfect up on till today. Today I put it on and, a chip, which was under the first pcie slot and above the cmos battery on my asus b250h gaming motherboard started to smoke and make a crackling noise. I instantly unplugged the PC and waited 2 hours before I tried to turn it on again. Now when I press the power button, it turns on and off about 5 times and displays nothing on screen, then it turns on like normal. When it is on them chip is burning hot (I got burnt when I touched it) and the chip has 2 bumps on it. Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Good Day to you guys! I was tinkering with my PC and trying to learn where all stuff comes from and where it connects to. I removed everything and placed it back to original state or so I thought. A few seconds after powering my PC there was something that smelled like it was melting/burning, I was away from my system for approximately 10 secs after I switched it on. I immediately switched it off and removed all cables and shut off the socket. I opened my system again and a ton of smoke came out. I was going thru the stuff I plugged in and found that I accidentally plugged in some kind of connector to some pins. The plastic covering of the connector has melted off and even took with it a connector beside it. I'm too scared to try and open my PC now. What do you guys think the chances of my PC still being alive are? And can you guys suggest anything that I can try to fix it? Thanks! ~OA

hey guys, i have an alienware x51 with an amd radeon r9 270 (stock cooler). a couple of weeks ago, i noticed a lot of stuttering and glitches on my screen when plugged into the r9 270. a couple of days later, i could not boot into windows, but i could get into bios when plugged into my r9 270, so i figured it couldnt be that my card was burnt. so i lent my friend`s computer to swap components. first i put my hard drive in his comp and it booted fine so it couldnt be the drive, then i tried his gpu in my x51 (since his psu doesnt have enough pci power plugs for my gpu to test) and my x51 booted up completely fine. i have since got a nvidia gtx 1050ti and its running perfectly. my question is, what could be the issue with my radeon r9 270? because if i can get it running i would be able to sell it. Thanks

Hey there everyone So I came home from work yesterday and turned on my computer and heard the beautiful sound of electrical failure, followed by the smell and sight of glorious white smoke. Shut the PC off fast as anything and opened it up to check what was cooking. Found a MOSFET that had popped and most certainly that was the smoke I saw (and my roomed reeked off). On further investigation I found out that when swapping CPU coolers, some thermal paste had somehow, some way fallen into the RAM slot. I'm guessing it shorted something. So my ASUS V-GENE is dead, so I will need a new motherboard and with that new RAM and a CPU as well. So I guess it is time to say goodbye to my 3570K and Vengeance RAM, served well. I was wondering if any of you had any good recommendations for a combo here, my case size limits me to M-ATX. My workflow is basically playing games like Witcher III, and whatever else doesn't suck at a given time, light photography editing and occasional video editing. ATM I have 2x GTX 670s in SLI - which the motherboard below does not support (SLI), but I intend on getting a GTX 1070 soon anyhow, and who knows, maybe my motherboard fried up some more stuff on its way out anyway. I mean this seems pretty straight forward, I was just thinking about going for a 6600K or 6700K, a mid tier MSI Z170 Motherboard (ignore the dank gamer MSI marketing) and some HyperX Fury RAM. I do want that ASUS VIII-GENE, but the money saved could be put towards a GTX 1070 or 6700K so. What ya bois think? If nothing else feel free to laugh at my misery
