Hi, I recently upgraded my system to: Intel i5 13400F Gigabyte M760H DS3H Motherboard Corsair DDR4 Vigilance 5200Mhz 500GB WD Blue NVME Cooler Master 650Watts MWE Bronze V2 230V 80 Plus (DC to DC) AntESport RGB Fans (3 pieces) Gigabyte 2060 Super 6GB (Old components) Kingston 240GB SSD WD 1 TB HDD WD 500GB HDD UPS 600VA About 20 days ago my GPU was burned. I spoke to the Gigabyte customer care regarding the issue and upon checking the GPU they informed me that the card could be burned due to PSU. In any case since the card is burned the warranty cannot be claimed! My concern is if I buy a new card and it gets burned too? Please help me with this situation, should I buy a Gold certified PSU? Or should I buy a 1000VA UPS? Also, which GPU should I buy considering my budget is INR 25,000/- I use Amazon.in to and local market in my area to buy PC components. (Picture of burned GPU attached!)

-======I have a Gygabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC graphics card I bought in october 2020, I used to play games a lot on my gaming pc but after i left home for college, I only get to play on weekends. This january I was away for a month and when I got home I played games on my PC just fine, the next day I woke up to find my pc not beign able to boot. I could hear a clicking sound from my PSU, only after I disconnected the power conectors from my GPU could I get my pc to boot. I took the gpu to the store where i bought it and they said it was burned, I was able to claim the warranty and they fixed my gpu. I dont think they gave me a new unit, they just fixed what ever was broken but I am not sure whether I was given a new unit. Anyway, fast forward a few months and I find my self in the exact same position, Used the PC after about a month of non use and the GPU burned on the next day morning. I have 2 months left on the warranty I maybe able to claim it. I am not sure what is causing this to happen. Is it because I didn't use it for a month? I heard that not using electronic devices can lead them to burn when turned on? Could It be my PSU, it is a 750 W gold one, or could It just be a problem with a graphics card and when they fixed it the first time they didn't properly remove the cause for the issue? I can only claim the warranty one more time and I can't afford another GPU I can't be in this situation again, what can I do?

First, a story: Some friends of mine who play in my D&D group were hanging out at home when smoke started to fill their apartment. In moments, fire burned through the walls. They made it out with only one phone, no shoes, and one friend only in his boxer shorts. The most heartbreaking detail is that they couldn't even get their cat out in time. The fire was started by a negligent neighbor who'd left their portable AC unit plugged into a power strip and left the apartment. I've been in a position where I lost everything before, and I know what a difference even a little bit of help would have made for me, so I racked my brain thinking of a way I could help. There's no replacing a furry friend, and while they had insurance, I know how long that process could take and most of their receipts would have been lost in the fire, too but I remembered my buddy had a gaming rig that was also destroyed by the fire, so I sprang into action. I had a Ryzen 3400G, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666Mhz RAM, and a Cooler Master Master Air CPU cooler on-hand after upgrading my system, so my roommate and I went halves on a motherboard, psu, and case to build our friend a little starter rig to upgrade on over time. We went with an Aorus x570-I and a Fractal Ion 650W SFX in a Cooler Master NR200P. When I broke the news to my friends, they were taken aback and very thankful. Then, they sent me a pic of the PC that was in the fire. It honestly didn't look as bad as I would have expected, so I told them to bring it when they come to pick up the new one and we'd see what we can salvage. We spent four hours yesterday cleaning and testing parts. My main hope was to salvage the AMD model Radeon RX 6800 that he had in there, as those cards are still almost double MSRP right now. First, we brushed his Ryzen 5800x with isopropyl alcohol and threw it into my own system to see if it would work. No post. It powered on for a split second, then right back off. My Asus x570-I doesn't have code readouts, so I have no idea what was wrong, but given that CPU is finally back to MSRP, my buddy wasn't too broken up about it. Next we cleaned his 32GB Trident Z Neo RAM and tried those. No post. His m.2 drives were corroded onto his motherboard from the fire hose water, so we just called those a wash. His AIO pump had begun to melt from the fire, so we chucked it, too. Now it was time for the big one, the sleek AMD direct Radeon RX 6800. We cleaned it as best we could without fully disassembling it, then threw it into his new little build. No post. Three of the four outputs were clearly damaged from the fire. The only good one was the DP port that he'd had plugged into his monitor. My friend left my home happy for his new little starter NR200P rig, but disheartened that we couldn't at least save the GPU. Hours go by and I was feeling bored, disappointed, and more than a little stubborn. I had watched a video where Der8auer managed to salvage a burned GPU that looked way worse than my friend's 6800, so I went back to work on it. I removed the top plate, unscrewed the card itself, and brushed the entire thing clean with isopropyl. I took the brush to the outputs, too, focusing on the port that had been blocked by the cord to his monitor during the fire. I blew out the massive heatsink with compressed air to try and rid it of soot and carbon buildup, as well. I'm no expert and I only knew about half of what I was doing, so I didn't want to remove the thermal pads or paste and fully submerge the heatsink or fans in water. I figured maybe, just maybe the amount of cleaning I did was enough. I was half-right. I pulled out my RX 5500xt from my own system and threw in the 6800. To my shock and utter excitement, it POSTED! I was able to boot into Windows with no problems. I immediately FaceTimed my friend to show him my bit of successful necromancy. We had a few laughs and it warmed my heart to hear the relief in his voice. He told me to enjoy the card for a bit before he came to get it, so when I ended the call I loaded Dragon Age Inquisition on Ultra, knowing that everything in my system accept my little 5500xt would handle that game. To my horror, the game ran fine until it reached the character creation screen and everything simply went black. I shut my system down and restarted, but the 6800 would not post an image again. With my spirit broken, I pulled it out and put my 5500xt back in. Sure enough, Radeon software picked up the black screen error, so I sent in the bug report and messaged a screenshot of the error to my friend with heartfelt apologies. By then, it was close to midnight and my resolve had run out, so I went to bed. Now, I've awoken this morning with no more energy left to give this 6800, but hoping at least this online community knows of a place my friend can send his card to be restored. Since it was a fire, we highly doubt AMD would RMA the card, and I think he got it cash from a friend at Microsoft who had the hookup, so he wouldn't have a receipt for the purchase, anyway. If he even DID have a receipt, it would have burned with everything else. PLEASE do not give me any more tips on how I can clean or troubleshoot any of the parts I've mentioned myself, I'd prefer a service or business my friend can send it to possibly restore the card. I gave an entire day off to this effort while sore from the second COVID vaccine, and I have to go back to work. I simply don't have any more time or energy to devote to trying to clean or fix this thing. I'm just hoping for a more affordable option for my friend to salvage it than simply paying twice MSRP for a new one whenever his insurance money comes through. Any suggestions to that end would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

I was gaming NFS Playback with everything on ultra without Vsync at 84°C (temperature that GPU always stayed during gaming) and then everything turned off, after some tests I realized that the PSU won't turn on when connected to the 8-pin PCI input of the GPU, and when the PSU is on and I connect, it instantly turns off... Does someone have a hint if this is just some fuse from the GPU blown or might be something worst? Also, some days ago I opened it because I saw a tape with some numbers in the PCB (probably from an RMA of the first buyer) and after I closed it, I forgot to check if the fans turned correctly, now I saw that the middle one couldn't turn because its cable was blocking it... Well, at least this explained why I always got to those temps quickly... Just one last detail, when it worked if connected to PCI lane but not to those PCI power pins, two leds near it would blink, this doesn't happen now. Specs: GTX 1080Ti Gaming OC (Gigabyte) i5 6600k XFX XT500 500w (yes, the worst from that PSU tier list) Edit: I'm currently using my old GTX970 now with those same 8 pin PCI connectors and everything is working just fine. Some pins of the PSU seems a little burn. And the GPU opened, you can also see that tape with numbers on the top

Hi, today I got burned one of the chips above RGB header, my PC turned off immediatelly. I disconnected the led strip and after turning it on, it turned off after about a minute, but after third turn on now everything works fine, but I'm not sure if I have to buy a new motherboard ASAP or I can use this without connecting anything near the RGB header. I attached a photo what it looks like above that RGB header. I did not find anything else burned. Woman was reportedly burned by Beats headphones, Apple blames 'third-party' AAA batteries The Verge: https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/19/15666082/apple-headphones-fire-flight-explosion-beats-battery Well this is horrible and yet another case of battery explosions. The technology industry better take a better stance on batteries. Battery manufacturer have got to make sure that this kind of stuff never happens. The cause for this incident by the looks of it was an old pair of Beats that used AAA batteries and the batteries that this user used malfunctioned an exploded. However this is all based of Apple's own investigation.

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my X99S SLI PLUS motherboard by MSI (link here) Yesterday, a few seconds after I unplugged my phone and cable from the rear USB (on the motherboard, not a hub), I smelled something burning. When I didn't notice any smoke I opened my pc case and noticed my CPU fans weren't spinning anymore. I looked at my screen and to my relief the rest of my PC was still working. I shut down my computer to check for any damage but apart from the burnt smell I didn't see anything. Because the cpufan pins weren't working anymore, I decided to switch my CPU fan to the sysfan pins. I booted the PC once again and the cpu fans were spinning normally. About 15-20 minutes after booting my PC I noticed a burning smell again, I immediately opened my pc case and saw the fans were not spinning anymore. I shut down my computer and decided to remove all the components from the motherboard to check for any signs of damage and what I found was pretty alarming, pictures here: MSI X99S SLI PLUS - Imgur There is a small component on the motherboard that's completely burned out, I suppose it's a component that regulates the voltage/current to the cpu/sysfan pins. I was wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar or knows what the cause of the problem might be. I don't want to send my motherboard for a RMA because I don't have a spare motherboard and don't want to miss it for a long time. Can anyone advice me what to do or who to contact? - - - Complete list of hardware: Mobo: MSI X99S SLI PLUS - Socket 2011-3 - ATX GFX: MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti, 6GB, Gaming RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB - PC4-19200 - DIMM (4x) CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K - 3.3GHz - Socket 2011-3 CPU Cooler: be quiet! Hello I just yesterday build a new computer. Everything was fine and I installed some nice games. While it was turned on I configured the rgb. Also I plugged in the rgb cables to the rgb headers on the motherboard. Then accidentally I plugged in a Rgb extension cable to a rgb header and the whole system shut down. I tried to start it but only fans were lighting up for 1milli sec. And then everything turned off. I fast unplugged everything and removed the gpu. Then plugged in the 24pin for board and 8pin cpu back and tried to start it. First it started for a mill sec and shut down a it did before but a second later it started working but smelled burned all over my room, so I immediately turned everything off and unplugged it. Now I need help. I saved the money for several years (I'm only 16years and live in Germany) My computer: Psu: 600W enermax Platimax DW Gpu: zotac amp extreme gtx 1080 Cpu: I5 8600k Msi z370 gaming pro carbon 500gb m2 NVME 1tb barracuda Seagate Aio: liqfusion 240mm Fans: 6x Enermax TB Rgb Ram: 4x 8gb Corsair LPX Case: 011 Dynamic by lian Li Please fast help !!!! ;((((

Part of my GPU was burnt up when I turned on my PC today. The display never came on and I started to smell burnt electronics so I quick flipped the power supply off. Then I noticed the GPU was the culprit and after taking off the heatsink I found what appears to be a burnt part of the VRM if I'm correct(shown in images). I was just wondering if this is replaceable and if so is it worth it to try getting it fixed or fixing myself? P.S. The rest of the system booted fine after I took out the GPU and tried the Integrated Graphics.

Hi, first time posting here and not a native speaker, I hope I'm doing everything right. This is my problem: Three days ago when I turned on my computer that I built almost 4 years ago (never had any problems) it shut off and it smelled like burnt plastic. I disassembled everything and found the source of the smell to come from the power supply (Corsair RM550) so I ordered a new one (Seasonic M12II-520 Evo). It arrived yesterday so I connected back all the cables to the new power supply, tried to turn it back on but it still wasn't working, the fans spun for maybe a second and then it would shut off. I tried disconnecting all the unnecessary parts such as the graphics card and left the bare minumum but nothing changed. Fast forward to today: I double checked all the cables and connections and tried once again turning it on. I see smoke coming from the disks so I immediately turn off the power supply and disconnect the cables. From the image below you can see that the SSD power connector (the one on top) is a bit molten while the HDD (the one on the bottom) was mostly ok, just a little molten plastic that I removed. The other HDD I had in my system doesn't look damaged. So my questions are: What is causing the issue? My first idea was the power cable connecting the disks to the power supply since I didn't replace it with the new ones that came with the new power supply. Can I recover the data from the disks? There isn't anything really important in them but the SSD was my primary driver with the OS and some files I'd like to recover if possible (music library, photos, save files). If it's useful to know I live in Italy. If you need any more informations/photos feel free to ask. Any help is greatly appreciated!

So, a while back my PSU overheated and burned to a crisp. I replaced my PSU with the EVGA 500B only for it to be defective out of box and not boot my PC. After this I returned it for a Corsair VS650 and I replaced my old motherboard for a MSI 970. After doing all of this my PC will now boot and won't crash or anything but now all of my games (Dark Souls, Overwatch etc.) fluctuate between 15 and 45 fps. I've done some bench marking and I have consistent temps (50 - 60 C),my CPU is at around 45% usage and my GPU usage constantly fluctuates between 0 and 100%. Hi everyone! So today I was streaming and suddently my PC and both of my monitors just shutted down. I was smelling that something was burning and I figure out that my Graphic Card was burning. It's a GTX 980TI EVGA model. It actually looks like new. you can't see that it burned but you can smell it if you smell the GPU. If I try to run the PC it's just not working and you can see some smoke comming from the GPU: https://twitter.com/ivo_kk/status/1066808481917935616 Right now I'm using my PC with no GPU, just connecting the monitor to the motherboard. I just wonder what could be the cause of this? I'm not really sure wich model it's my Power Supply but I know it's Enermax 650W or 750W. I've been playing games professionaly and streaming for almost 3 years now and this never happened before. I started streaming with Nvidia NVENC 2 weeks ago. Can that be a problem since I'm asking my GPU to use too much power maybe? Another thing that could maybe be the reason is: My PC was on the ground on a carpet (also for 2 weeks) so the power supply it's looking down ( and I've saw in a lot of videos that they often put the power supply looking up instead of down when it's going to stand on a carpet). Do you think any of this 2 could be the reason of why it burned? I'm getting a new PC this week (i9-9900k, RTX 2080TI, ...) Basically a HUGE gaming PC and I'm scared if the same thing happens again. Thanks for the answers!

So my sister asked me to check her laptop because the power button was sunk, in fact, when I opened it I saw that she had pressed it very hard and that was why it no longer worked well, so I cut a piece of silicone stick from the mini hot glue gun of about 3 millimeters, I shaped to fit the button so that it could press the power button on the motherboard. However, when I was reassembling I started to connect everything again as it was, and I went ahead and connected the battery too. Here I think it was where I ruined everything because I hadn't finished with the rest and when I connected the WiFi antennas I pressed until they clicked and turned on the laptop by mistake but I turned off the laptop quickly and continued. When I finally finished, I turned it on but it only worked for some minutes and then it turned off just to not to turn on again ever , not even the fan turns but the power button LED stays on so I assume there is power but CPU died, it does not even enter BIOS. I have tried: I disconnect the battery from the MOBO to use the power cord but still after I just connect the power cord the LED on the power button turns on automatically and again fans don't spin. I removed the CMOS battery for a few minutes but it didn't work either. I am about to test this SSD in an external enclosure to test and check and see if I corrupted the boot files (I am hoping so) when press the power button and shut it off immediately... This thing is runnig hot even on battery so I unplugged it and also with the power cord it starts to run hot so at the moment is not connected to any source of power. Hi, yesterday my MSI GTX 970 Gaming died. Is there any chance that i can repair this (by myself) or should i just buy a new gpu?
-
My Formula VIII burned along with GPU. the contact pins on GPU are gone, so it might be beyond repairing, the motherboard was damaged (PCIe slot). I am just wondering is there any solution to it, like if somehow that PCIe could be isolated, so that the rest of the board could work, or somehow it could be repair even without that PCIe, I am already assuming that its dead, but just giving a shot ... (i dont understand much of electronics) Any advice is appreciated.
