  3. Hey all, I'm planning on building a new computer for personal use using old server gear (LGA2011), but I have a few questions. I want to use an HP Z420 gen 1 but a version2 E5-2680v2 CPU. Is that possible? Also, Is HPs Z420 board standard ATX Size or no? Can I update the bios to get the chip to work? Finally, any suggestions on commercial used systems (i.e. Dell T3600)?
  4. Hey guys I'm so tired I've been up for the last like 2 hours trying to figure out why my hard drive will not show up when I boot my Asus z170 now it's literally 4:50 in the morning and I got work tomorrow so I can't give any more time to this project. So I've just built this computer and it's my first build the hard drive I got was a 1 terabyte SATA hard drive by WD "6 Gb/s" and the motherboard is compatible as well as all three SATA cables I have tried.. I've tried and tried again, quadrouple checked secure cable connections.. tried different ports and bleh... Even tried pin jumping to 3gb/s just in case it couldn't run 6gb... The only other major thing I've done is did a bios update to be sure the proper drivers were all installed for bios.. I'm not sure if this is JUST because I haven't got an OS on it yet or if it is because it has no HDD being detected... Or something worse.. idk I'm getting so tired of fighting this thing, but point is, the boot device led is steady red.. The only thing I've left to think is that my brand new WD HDD is just faulty... Before I RMA it.. anyone have any further ideas? Btw. I don't have an SSD. it's still default to AHCI and... Okay I changed zero settings.. so yeah.. thoughts...? Sorry about the rant..

  7. So, I saw this i3 7350K "budget build" which in my opinion is preety bad, but I want to know your opinion. I think its way to expensive to be a budget build, it is for streaming but it hasn`t a dGPU like a GT 1030 or RX 550. Tha case is too expensie, AIO, a shit ton of fans. Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/ZzkdnQ PS. I preety much ranted in the comments and I recommended changes, and to do some research before building, did I over stepped?
  8. After a full day of work getting it up and running here are the final benchmarks, pictures and temperatures! If you have an opinion, cosmetics/specifications/fan configuration/etc Feel free to let me know, good or bad I can take a little dink in my ego TL;DR It performs good, until now it has been mostly stable besides overheating at the start. (Underclocking & undervolting fixed heat issue's) Specifications : Intel i7-4790K @ 3.8Hz Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Asrock Z97X Killer MSI GTX980 4GB 2-Way SLI Corsair RM750i Kingston 4GB 1333MHz Kingston 4GB 1333MHz Windows 10 Enterprise 1607 LTSB 64 Bit Corsair Carbide Spec-02 2 Fans Intake Front 1 Fan Exhaust Back Seagate 500GB 7200RPM Seagate 500GB 7200RPM PICTURES! These where taken after the build was completely assembled and in its final stages! After setting it on my desk: Looks are one thing, and even if I say so myself it has dem gud looks. I now present "Le Benchmarks" UserBenchmark.com score (Normal Speeds) UserBenchmark.com score (Undervolted - Underclocked) It is worth mentioning that the low minimums are due to the HDD's. Every time a new scene loaded there where framedrops, but after that it did well! After noticing extreme temperatures on the CPU, especially Core 1 undervolting & underclocking had to take place. Now running at a Core Ratio of 37 and with 17 minutes of HeavyLoad the temperatures stabilized at +-72C° Before anyone beats me to it, these parts where either bought on clearance or decommissioned from my older system. So they where lying around catching dust & doing nothing useful! Even though it has 2 980's in SLI, that was luck getting those back right in time. Calling them spare parts is wrong in quite a few ways, but it is what it is : Spare Parts. What I might change : Adding an SSD. If I go for one, M.2 or no SSD. More memory, 16GB's being a good amount. If it is up-to-date enough in 2 years, a new CPU cooler or AIO to allow for default speeds or overclocking. Original Post : Heya! So you are wondering what will be happening here? I have quite a few spare parts, or just parts from decommissioned systems. When looking through them, I realized an entire system was ready to be made from them. That is exactly what I'll be doing today. Not all of these parts work, I know for a fact. Some of them might work, some might not. I'll update provide pictures the following hours on how this is going along. Final specifications are unknown, even to myself. First picture is attached Currently seeing how I'll route the main power cables. CPU/Cooler already installed. I'll post the next one when I test route most cables.

  13. So I need a little help I have an idea in my head and I'm going to finalize it looking on eBay and Newegg and sites like that but I want your guys's idea of what I should build. Limitations: Budget $3,800 Has to be really good at editing 4K video preferably with no bottleneck Would like to see a ryzen processor or a server board with two CPU bays. I want to do something simplistic but also would look good on a desk or in the typical PC area for the business World on the floor in the corner under your desk.
  14. Hey peeps, I am planning on building workstation for Solidworks. I was hoping to get some recommendations for the build from this esteemed community :D. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BPk4r7 I am primarily concerned with my motherboard choice. Is MSI a good brand as whole? Will the MSI - Z270-A PRO A be able to support a mild overclock on the i7-7700K? I based my CPU choice off of some of puget systems' testing: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/SOLIDWORKS-2017-Coffee-Lake-CPU-Comparison-i7-8700K-i5-8600K-i3-8350K-1053/
  15. Hi, I am planning to build a pc in about 2 months. The reason why I want these parts is that I want to play games at 1440p and 4k like Battlefield 1 etc. Besides that, I want to do a little bit video editing and streaming. I choose this motherboard but if you can give me some opinions about it it would be awesome. These are the parts that I want to pick, Phanteks Eclipse P400S Tempered Glass - Midtower - €91,94 Intel Core i7 7700K - 4.2 GHz - €328,95 Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler - €118,90 ASUS ROG STRIX Z270F GAMING - Motherboard - €179,90 Ballistix Sport LT - DDR4 2666mhz - €174,90 Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080Ti - €839,00 SanDisk PLUS - Solid state drive 240GB - €87,85 WD Blue WD10EZRZ - Hard Disk 1TB - €48,90 Corsair RMx Series RM750x PSU - €108,90 In total €1.979,24 Btw I don't want to go over 2.000 Euro My last question is should I buy some of the parts at black Friday?
  16. Buy FSP PSU on Amazon: http://geni.us/Lvs3zY Does a liquid cooled PSU actually make ANY SENSE? FSP thinks so...
  17. 2 years ago I built my current system, ECHO 2, which has seen some pretty good performance considering it's on an FM2 platform, but recently I realized its getting a bit long in the tooth, barely being able to handle games like ATS without slowdowns nowadays. My solution: stick together a new PC, and recycle E2 into some sort of media PC. On that, I went to PCPartPicker and compared Ryzen and Core i5/i7 builds, before realizing that the price of PCs has skyrocketed. The Ryzen 3 system I pieced together totaled nearly $1400! RAM and power supplies have certainly gotten quite inflated prices since I last dabbled in part listing. So I then went to channels like ScatterVolt, Austin Evans, and of course LTT before finding the old "8 Core Gaming for $150" video and being amazed at the relative performance of these old CPUs. On this, I put together a build using LGA1366 (rather than Linus' LGA775) Xeons, and figured I'd ask here if it's worth the cost to ya'll. It should also be noted, a single one of these Westmere Xeons is better than my 860K (according to UserBenchmark), so either way its an upgrade lol. I'm also interested in this simply because I kinda want to play around with the complexities of stuff like form factor on these server boards, and the novelty of having two CPUs :P. This also WILL NOT be upgraded in the future, and neither will a brand new system, so in your reasoning please do not quote upgradability. Tasks for this system would include gaming at no more than 1080p, with games ranging from HL2, to ATS, FSX, War Thunder, etc., along with recording these games (this is where I would think the 8 physical cores would help), and video/audio editing in Sony VEGAS and Audacity. TL;DR: Is this a good system for $1000, or is it really worth it to pay an extra $500 for a Ryzen 3/Core i5 system? Thank you all in advance for any advice!
  18. Hi, I'm thinking of building a PC for my girlfriend but I don't know anything about shopping for parts. I was thinking of building a gaming PC for myself a while back but then I saw my girlfriend struggling on her macbook pro. She is in to photography and is trying to make a buck out of it. The only problem is that het Macbook Pro isn't really suited for the work she bought it back when she wasn't that serious about photography). It only has 4 gigs of RAM so it slows to a crawl every time she works in photoshop with fairly large files. For the meantime I offered her to switch laptops with me (my macbook pro is a bit more beefy), but sooner or later i'm going to need my laptop back. I want to help her out and build a PC where she can edit het photo's on (and so i can have my laptop back). She uses Lightroom and Photoshop. I think she will want to do very basic video editing down the line (but nothing to serious). The PC must be cheap as we don't have a lot of money to throw around. However, it should perform adequately in photoshop. I'd rather spend a bit more instead of cheaping out and end up with unusable hardware. After all, it's here dream we're talking about. On a side note: It would be awesome if it could be used for some light gaming down the line. I'm not a heavy gamer, but it would be nice if the system could run some games if I slap a graphics card in there whenever I have the cash to spoil myself a bit.
  19. Theme Build help

So i'm in the process of window shopping to build myself a new system. I've set my mind of doing a themed build this time around, with the theme being Daft Punk. I've never done a themed build before so I need all the help I can get and as many ideas as possible. My price range atm is between $2000 - $2500 , a bit limiting but I can always add more along the line.
  20. hi guys my system now is i7 2600k ddr3 1333mhz ram gtx 960 2gb ssd samsung 1 tb hdd but i wan to make new fresh pc for high 1080p gaming but what is the best choice for gaming and why ? 1st build : i3 8100 , my own gtx 960 2gb , gigabyte z370 hd3 , 2x8 3000mhz ddr4 ram + my ssd and my hdd or second build 1500x r5 , 1050ti 4gb , msi b350 gaming pro , 2400 mhz ram ddr4 + my ssd and my hdd 1} i have something more questions : 2) who is the difference between for example 2400mhz or 3200mhz or 4000 .. 3)ALL cpu have a corresponding mhz for ram ? .for example 1500x work better with 2400 mhz or with 2666 or 3200 mhz and why ? 4)mhz of ram does matter on gaming ? 5)why userbench show 1st build winner ? ( look photo down) Thanks for your time guys .. <3 ( sorry for my english but i try )

  22. Hi All! So the goal is to make a great looking Computer no matter how old! Retro or New it's completely up to you! Try to be Creative with this I would like to see what you can do!
  23. EDIT: better for Gaming/Coding also I have my own storage. I am about to spend around 1350.00 for a new computer. I was curious as to what the community thinks of these two builds. One is intel and the other AMD. Also, are there any changes that I could make for little to no price increase but a better performance overall? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 24. CyberPowerPC Build Critique

Hey guys, My Lenovo workstation is finally dying and so I have decided to get my first real gaming rig. I was planning on building my own but I have very limited time due to school so I have designed a CyberPowerPC. I know they have some negative stigma around them for some of the parts they use so I went through and specifically chose every single part, making sure they all have decent reputations on Newegg/Amazon. I am just about ready to pull the trigger since their daily sale today has the M.2 SSD I want free with purchase of a Mech Drive. Tell me if you have any critiques of the setup, or any stories (Good or Bad) of CyberPowerPC. *BASE_PRICE: [+1875] BLKFRISALE1: CYBERPOWERPC Skorpion K2 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard [+5] BLKFRISALE2: CyberPowerPC AULA Explosive 50mm Drive Analog Gaming Headset [White & Orange] [+5] BLKFRISALE3: TP-LINK 802.11AC Archer T2U AC600 Wireless Dual Band, 2.4GHz 150Mbps/5Ghz 433Mbps USB Adapter [+5] BLKFRISALE4: McAfee AntiVirus Plus [+5] (Factory Pre-Install [Digital Version]) BLKFRISALE5: CyberpowerPC Gaming Mouse Pad [+0] BLUETOOTH: None CABLE: None CAS: IN WIN 101 Mid Tower High Air Flow Gaming Case w/ Tempered Glass Full Size Window [-15] (White) CASUPGRADE: None CC: None CD: None CD2: None COOLANT: None CPU: Intel® Core™ Processor i7-8700K 3.70GHZ 12MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1151 (Coffee Lake) CS_FAN: 4X 120mm Thermaltake Riing 12 Series High Static Pressure 120mm Case/Radiator Fan [+49] (Red Color LED) ENGRAVING: None EVGA_POWER: EVGA PowerLink Revolutionized Cable Management Adaptor [+10] (Single Adaptor) FA_HDD: None FAN: DEEPCOOL CAPTAIN 240EX 240mm Radiator CPU Liquid Cooler w/ Copper Cold Plate [+30] (4 x RED (Push-Pull) Tt Riing 12 Series Case/Radiator Fans [+48]) FLASHMEDIA: None FREEBIE_HD1: Free 256GB WD Black Series PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD for Desktops [+0] FREEBIE_VC: None HD_M2SSD: None HD_PCIE1X_SSD: None HDD: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD [-151] (Single Drive) HDD2: None HEADSET: None IUSB: Built-in USB 2.0 Ports KEYBOARD: None [-5] MEMORY: 16GB (8GBx2) RGB Lightning DDR4/3000MHz Memory Module [-140] (GSKILL Trident Z RGB) MONITOR: None MOPAD: None MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE GA-Z370XP-SLI ATX w/ USB 3.1, 3 PCIe x16, 3 PCIe x1, 6 SATA3, 1 M.2 SATA/PCIe [Intel Optane Ready] [-6] MOUSE: CyberpowerPC Standard 4000 DPI with Weight System Optical Gaming Mouse NETWORK: Onboard Gigabit LAN Network NOISEREDUCE1: Power Supply Gasket [+5] NOISEREDUCE2: Anti-Vibration Fan Mounts [+9] OS: None - FORMAT HARD DRIVE ONLY [-60] OVERCLOCK: No Overclocking POWERSUPPLY: 750 Watts - EVGA SuperNOVA 750 GQ 80 PLUS Gold Power Supply [+48] PRO_WIRING: Professional Wiring + [White] Phanteks Premium Extension Cables sleeved set [24Pin MB + 8Pin CPU + 6+2 Pin VGA] [+39] RUSH: Standard processing time: ship within 5 to 10 Business Days SERVICE: 3 Years FREE Service Plan (INCLUDES LABOR AND LIFETIME TECHNICAL SUPPORT) SLI_BRIDGE: None SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO SPEAKERS: None USBHD: None USBX: None VIDEO: EVGA GeForce® GTX 1080 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0 Edition 8GB GDDR5X (Pascal)[VR Ready] [+143] (Single Card) VIVE_HEADSET: None WARRANTY: PREMIUM WARRANTY: Standard 1 Year Parts WARRANTY + ONE (1) YEAR SHIPPING [+19] WNC: None WTV: None _PRICE: (+1918)
  25. I had a recent post but decided to tweak some things on it. Is this a decent Gaming/Coding build for a $1,400.00 budget? Any improvements I can make to increase performance but not increase the cost? I have a 240 gb SSD so no storage is listed.
