Hello and welcome to the LTT Build-Off, Week 4! This week's challenge is to build something to convert people from the "next-gen" consoles to PC gaming for $550 (No elitist ideology required). A twist this week is that you do not need a monitor or speakers, because a console would be hooked up to your TV. You can opt for a KB + M, or a controller, or both (and this is part of the price). Make sure that this PC is something you would want in your living room. A tower case with LED lighting may not be the best choice... As always, the rules can be found here. This contest will run from Friday the 2nd to Tuesday the 6th, with voting on the 7th and 8th. May the odds be ever in your favor! UPDATE Aug. 9th 2013: @tk421 is the winner! Thank you to everyone who participated and voted. The next contest can be found here.

Hey everyone! The challenge this week is to make the most powerful small-form-factor PC that you can for $1,250. As always, the rules and guidelines can be found here. SFF means that you must have a Mini-ITX motherboard and chassis. Note that this "power" is not for a specific purpose, such as gaming, so make sure your components are balanced. Overclocking will definitely give you better performance, so keep that in mind. This contest will run from Friday July 19th to Tuesday the 23rd, with Wednesday and Thursday (the 24th and 25th) reserved for voting. GLHF and BUILD, BUILD, BUILD! UPDATE: Voting is now live, so no further entries will be added to the poll. If you didn't submit a part list, please vote for your favorite. A winner will be announced on August 2nd since nobody has voted by the original deadline, Friday, July 26th. UPDATE: Congratulations to the winner, WoodenMarker! As of Friday, August 2nd, his part list had the most votes. The next contest can be found here.

Welcome to Week 37 of the LTT Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. Thank you to @dragoon20005 for suggesting this challenge. This week the challenge is to build a dirt-cheap PC. It doesn't need to max out games, edit video, or anything really intensive. Budget: $300 Peripherals: No Monitor: No Submissions: March 22nd through 24th Voting: March 25th through 27th Sorry for putting this up late. I have a lot of homework and I've been working on building a PC of my own (first time )

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in build-offs on the forum. This idea was originally proposed on the PCPartPicker forums, but they don't have nearly the community that we do here. Every week/two weeks a thread is made with criteria and a goal for a build, such as "Best PC for Immersive Gaming for $1,800." For a build like that, the important things would be smooth framerates, good audio quality, low fan noise, and a nice display. Using PCPartPicker, contestants choose parts for a rig that they think best fits the criteria (while staying under budget). The post with the most "likes" wins after a set amount of time. Other criteria could be things like brand choice, color scheme, form factor, etc. What do you guys think? Should this be a thing on the LTT forums? If it turns into a big thing then maybe the winner each week could be mentioned on the live stream along with the Build Logs of the Week. Because of this, I'm leaning towards a Thursday to Thursday schedule so each contest will finish the day before the livestream. N.B./Update: The first build-off will be next Thursday in the New Builds and Planning forum. I'll make a thread with the topic and rules.

Welcome to Weeks 9/10 of the LTT Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This week's challenge is to make a partlist with a green and grey/gunmetal/silver color scheme with the added stipulation of using Nvidia GPUs only. You can use any form factor, and peripherals are required. You have a budget of a whopping $3,000! Tips: You have a huge budget. This is one of the few builds where you won't be constrained by money. Go crazy! A custom watercooling loop will be great for your color scheme and awesomeness factor, but don't leave out any components. For example, if you don't have a pump in your loop, your build will be disqualified. This was suggested to me as an Nvidia Fanboy build, and while I have changed it to be broader, Nvidia is still required (which fits in with the color scheme). The contest will run from Friday September 6th to Thursday September 12th, with the 10th, 11th, and 12th reserved for voting. UPDATE: voting is live, but since I was late in making the poll and we have a lot of entries, this contest has been extended one week. Thursday the 19th is the last day of voting.

Welcome to the Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This week's challenge is to make a partlist using as many Cooler Master and Gigabyte branded parts as possible. The budget is $1,000. You can use any form factor you want and peripherals are not required (but a monitor is). This is the beginning of a few brand-themed builds. These are simply stipulations that make you use parts you might not otherwise choose. The Build-Offs are not affiliated with or sponsored by any companies or brands. The contest will run from Friday August 30th to Thursday September 5th, with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th reserved for voting. UPDATE: @lachyman is our winner! Congrats to him!

Welcome to the Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This week's challenge is to get the best bang for your buck with the components in your parts list. Your budget is $900. Pay careful consideration to things like overclocking. If you are spending $70 on a cooler, are you really getting enough extra performance out of it? This contest will run from Friday August 16th to Thursday the 22nd, with Tuesday through Thursday reserved for voting. UPDATE: Added the poll. Let's get some votes going! UPDATE Aug. 23rd 2013: @WoodenMarker is the winner!

Welcome to Week 11 of the LTT Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This week's challenge is to make a partlist composed of as many Corsair and Asus branded parts as possible. The budget is $1,000. The Build-Offs are not affiliated with or sponsored by any companies or brands. The contest will run from Saturday September 21st to Thursday September 26th, with the 24th, 25th, and 26th reserved for voting. (Sorry about the delays with the last contest and this one--homework is the killer of free time).

Welcome to 12th LTT Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This is a very scalable topic. You could make a barebones rig and run a minecraft server on it no problem. However, I wanted to keep things interesting, so the budget is set quite a bit higher than "barebones." It is $1,400, in fact. This PC should not have a big footprint. It is a server, so cool and quiet operation is important. For this usage scenario, peripherals are unimportant. You don't even need a monitor. Also, a good storage solution is important. You get bonus points for a NIC, which would help with server bandwidth. The contest will run from Friday September 27th to Thursday October 3rd, with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd reserved for voting. Hop to it! UPDATE: Congratulations to @Blackterror25 for winning his first build-off!

Welcome to the Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This week's challenge is to build the coolest looking (and well-performing) PC with an orange and red color scheme for $1,100. You can use any form factor and any brand. This contest will run from Friday August 9th to Thursday the 15th, with Wednesday the 14th and Thursday the 15th reserved for voting. Get to it UPDATE: Voting is live and open until Thursday night/Friday morning. Some of your entries have not been counted because they do not adhere to the rules (lack of peripherals). Notify me if I mistakenly disqualified you. Also for the voters, note that Emrykan's entry is his last post, not first post. This week's thread got a little messy, so could the contestants delete old revisions of their entries? That would make it easier for people to vote. UPDATE Aug. 16th 2013: @Terminashunator is the winner. Congrats! The next contest can be found here.

Welcome once again to the LTT Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. The challenge this week is to build the best video editing workstation that you can for $1,600. A few tips: Don't underestimate the power of hardware acceleration and GPU compute. You will need to find a good balance between massive storage and redundancy for important files, the usefulness of a scratch disk, and the speed of an SSD. Video editing programs can be very RAM and CPU intensive (and are multithreaded). While not actually required, I highly recommend an IPS panel. The better colors are important for video editing. On that note, better resolution or multiple monitors is great for a workstation. I know those bullet points are a lot to fit in, but it's all about the compromises when you have to stick to a budget. What are you standing around for? Submit your part list! :) NOTE: As of this build off, a revision has been made. You no longer need to include a mouse, keyboard, or speakers/headphones in your build. A monitor is still required. This may change on a case by case basis for future contests. For example, if a contest revolves around certain brands or colors, I may require peripherals. However, I will make that clear in those posts. Update: The poll has been added. Voting will run from Tuesday the 27th through Thursday the 29th. UPDATE: We have our first tie! The winners are @chromeboy42 and @WoodenMarker.

Welcome to Week 24/25 of the LTT Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This week the challenge is to make your own version of the Honey Badger. Budget: $1,400 Peripherals: No Monitor: No Submissions: December 20 through December 23 Voting: December 24 through January 2 Tips: The build should be ITX or smaller mATX, and optimized for editing and/or gaming. Welcome to the 53rd LTT Build-Off! The rules and previous contests can be found here. Thank you to @MEC-777 and @f22luke for suggesting the challenge. Budget: $500 for upgrades Speakers/Headphones: No Mouse: No Keyboard: No Monitor: No Submissions: August 29th through September 4th Voting: September 5th through 11th This is Part 2 of "Upgrade Path," and you will therefore need to upgrade the winning entry from the last contest, which was made by @TopplesS: Essentially, this means that you have $500 and need to use this PC as a base. Transform it into a killer gaming rig (but do you have enough watts in the PSU? Or do you need larger storage for more games? Upgrade at your discretion). Anything not upgraded with that $500 should come directly from this previous part list. Please tell us why you picked certain upgrades in your post. Thanks and good luck!

Welcome to 13th LTT Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here. This topic is a unique one. We have obviously all Linus' advice on building PCs. We have also heard the parts that he actually put in his rig. It's up to you to rectify the situation. Build a system for $2,500 that goes by the books--Linus' books. That means: Single GPU is better than Multi-GPU $700 on a case is a bad idea All the Noctuas... Watercooling is up to you High quality sound is a must for Linus Peripherals are not needed, but a monitor is. A large, high res IPS panel is recommended. This PC will sit on/under/around a desk, so you don't need a small form factor or portability. The most stressful (and primary) usage will be gaming. The contest will run from Fri. October 4th to Thurs. October 10th, with the 8th, 9th, and 10th as voting days. Mr. Tech Tips has spoken! Congratulations to @CoolBeans for winning the challenge!
