  1. We all know that budget laptops always have certain places where manufacturers cut back on, so what would be some places where you guys would allow cutbacks to happen and where would you spend the money rather towards? If you can provide the detailed knowledge towards what specific parts would be perfect for such a budget laptop, please do so. Just wanted to know this before going out and buying one.
  2. I'm going to be studying computor science at college and I'll need a decent laptop to be able to practice programming, do course work, take notes and all that stuff. I could use the computers at the college for practicing programming and doing homework but the college is a 20-30 minute drive away, if traffic is decent, and I dont drive myself (my parents cant always drop me off and bus travel is expensive as frick and takes even longer). I can upgrade eventually as I work towards my career when I really need to but for now I need somthing that will get the job done without brutally abusing what's left of my wallet
  3. hello everyone, I have already asked many times before but I promise this is the last time. I am looking for a laptop that I will mainly use for MS Word, Excel, web browsing and a bit of Minecraft UT4 on the go (native res). I need the I/O to be decent and keep the thickness under 1.8mm The screen size should be either 13 or 14 inches and I don't mind the aspect ratio (16:9, 16:10, 3:2) as long as the resolution is 1080p and higher. I need the laptop to have a decent battery life since I will be traveling and taking it to class a lot. Dedicated graphics are not a must but keyboard backlight (RBG not needed) is a must. The thermal performance of the laptop should be good enough to have the CPU (4 cores plz) go full turbo at all times. I also don't want any power limit throttling because it also compromises performance. I would also prefer a full metal body because I need it to be durable. The minimum specs are as follows: i5 8265U and higher 8GB RAM (doesn't need to be upgradeable) 256GB SSD (doesn't need to be upgradeable) If you have any suggestions, please let me know, my budget is approx 650eur Germany thanks e.
  4. I'm looking for a relatively portable laptop on a budget which has a nice display in the segment and will allow gaming on high or medium to low settings, with the best specs of its class
  5. What about HP Pavilion Gaming - 15t for video editing? I thought for buying a new budget laptop for video editing which obviously has to be a gaming laptop, and while looking out i found this new HP Pavilion's NEW Gaming series offering the following specs at just $1060. 8th gen i7 8750H hexa-core processor Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB GDDR5 RAM - 8GB DDR4 (i'll add up 4gig more that i have with me making it 12GB) 1TB SATA 7200rpm 128 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD 4-cell, 70 Wh Li-ion polymer This is the link to the customization page for the device. https://store.hp.com/us/en/ConfigureView?catalogId=10051&langId=-1&storeId=10151&urlLangId=&catEntryId=3074457345618849823&quantity=1 Please share your opinion and also tell the alternatives.
  6. i want to buy laptop for my sister (told you this so you know this is for girl) it's for college i already have some laptop's name in mind, but i want to know if you guys have other idea the spec in my mind are : i5 or i7; 8gb ram(?); ssd is crucial i guess, i don't have particular idea about graphic card, just not to bad, can play games like sims whatsoever battery life is important since it's for college; color, well since it's for girl, rosegold would be nice. although if you have another laptop in mind that didn't suit my spec, just say it, i will be glad to be hear it budget, let's say i'm willing to pay price for macbook if it's worth the money, although i hope there is another option around less or more $900 thanks in advance sorry if there is something wrong in my english USB type A is still really needed
  7. I am looking at getting a new laptop for school. I need it to be fairly fast due to the amount of work i will have to go through next year but also be able to play easy to run games (mainly League if Legends). The only laptop that I can see is this one: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/hp-250-g5-core-i5-6200u-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-15.6-windows-10-laptop-x0q07es/version.asp?refsource=LDadwords&refsource=Ldadwords&gclid=Cj0KCQjwy4zLBRCOARIsADfss37a0c9s3ozJyUV3rDeA8zm8fXEdOBQWUmuwu6fCoRp1rN4a6SLvrUgaAsE5EALw_wcB thanks in advance fore any help
  8. I want to Buy a Laptop for Video Editing. Can anyone suggest me best Configuration for Video Editing? My budget is $1200 to $1400.(RGB Color Keyboard is must) I just need what is the best configuration of Video editing in 4k. Please suggest me a Best laptop.
  9. Please! Suggest me a Good Laptop with Core i7 7700HQ, GTX1060 6GB, 16GB RAM and RGB KeyBoard under Max. $1200. Also which is available on Amazon.
  10. So my parent's use an old pc from 2007 which can barely run windows 7. Even when performing the most basic tasks surfing and e-mailing the computer has trouble keeping up. So in short my parents want an upgrade of some sort and naturally came to their son. My parents are not pc enthusiasts and have a hard time maintaining a file structure managing programs etc. But since there are quite a lot of options I'd like to ask you for feedback, experiences and suggestions to help me and hopefully others with the same problem. Some pc specs * Intel Pentium E2140 1.60GHz dual core * 2*512MB DDR2 ram 333Mhz * On board graphics * Windows 7 (used to run Vista so switching seemed the right choice) So as far as I am concerned I have 3 options: Option 1: Upgrading the pc €100,- When monitoring the performance of the pc it is obvious that the computer needs more ram. Furthermore after so many years I think it’s wise to replace the hard drive since it's making weird noises. I would change the ram for 2X2GB and swap the hard drive for a 120GB SSD. This would cost about €100,-. The cons of this however is that the processor is probably the next bottleneck. Secondly I'm concerned that power usage will result in more costs in the long run is a pc this old worth an upgrade? Option2: A chromebook €250,- to €300,- Since my parent's aren’t pc people I think a chromebook could be the right choice for them managing files and programs is a lot easier, however I am worried that chromebooks don't offer enough functionality for their needs since this would be their only pc. Option3: A new Laptop running windows 8 €400,- + This might be the most obvious choice the functionality of a laptop is virtually the same and a laptop will allow them to work in the living room. Only at this price point you are bound to an I3 and on-board graphics which does not sound appealing to me. Also the problem with maintaining a pc will still be there. Thanks for reading all feedback is welcome
  11. Hi, I'm trying to find a nice cheap affordable laptop, mainly for common class work (Eg, google drive / google docs, slides ex) I'm not realy looking to spend anything much over $100 - $150 USD an im not wanting a laptop with chrome os I wouldn't need a lot of storage as i picked up 5 - 6 of the "back to school" Walmart 32 gig 2.0 usb flash drives. The essential's would be long lasting battery life, durability, Win10 / Win 7 I currently have a alien-ware Mx14 laptop, having a core i7, with 16 gigs of ddr3 ram, its only bottle neck's being 1.) GPU 2.) battery life 3.) Weight while the laptop itself is only 14-inch display, its still nearly 2 - 3 pounds. And overall i just don't feel safe caring it around in school. (although there is the plus of being able to play fortnite in class lmao wich i had) the realy only thing iv'e come across so far was this cheap laptop costing around $126.79 USD and overall it had some bad review's on amazon and seemed to sketch. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0167W1VAM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0167W1VAM&linkCode=as2&tag=austevan-20&linkId=KD57XAUCFVO5O4IV&th=1 I don't realy have much a flexible budget with a cap being $175 usd so any help would be welcomed, thanks

  13. I need a laptop for programming in college I will able to spend up to 800$ on it. What I do is some app development and some java development. I will also like to do some gaming on it sometimes. Can someone please give me a list of specs or maybe some laptop suggestions. Thank you!!
  14. Hi, im a 16 year old economics student who loves playing Dota 2 and League of Legands on my desktop, but for school i'm going to need something that is very portable and strictly on a budget, i usually get between 40-50 frames per seconds on both games using my desktop, so id like a laptop that is below 400$ (that is the maximum i can afford for the moment) and that can run those 2 MOBA games on at least a playable 20 fps, office apps aren't a problem because a potato could run them theses days. i do have in mind some specific laptops but i'm having trouble picking one of them, the laptops are the following HP Stream 13: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Stream-Includes-Personal-Horizon/dp/B00O65HZKS Asus Eeebook x205ta: http://www.amazon.com/EeeBook-X205TA-DS01-11-6-inch-Laptop-Office/dp/B00SGS7ZII/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1432421887&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+eeebook+x205ta Toshiba Satellite Pro R50-B-10G: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satellite-Pro-R50-B-10G-Portable/dp/B00N6NF4GI the help is really appreciated Thank you
  15. Asus Zenbook UX305UA Review Note: This review is a first for me, so if you like it or have any other questions. write them down in the comments. Okay, so I just recently bought the Asus Zenbook UX305UA, god I hate product names, and I’ve been using it for about a week now. So I thought for a minute, and said,”Hey, why not put out what I think of this laptop?” Now I’m here writing this article on my Google Drive. The 305 is a 13.3” laptop with an i5-6200u, 8GB of Ram, 256GB SSD, and a 1080p (non-touch) display. The special part about this laptop is that it gives you all of these features with a price of $750! Yep, this is basically a device made to beat out other ultrabooks, yes, it’s an ultrabook at only 2.9lbs. The body has a decision extremely reminiscent of the dying Macbook Air, with shockingly accurate bezels and feel. The 305’s keyboard is not backlit, which I guess is a bummer for a growing number of people, but being honest I no longer look at the keyboard when I type, so I don’t really understand the use case for the backlight, so I guess to each his own. The track pad however, is complete cancer. It’s surface is not glass, and is neither smooth nor good feeling. My finger constantly feels the friction as I use the track pad, and just feels like I’m using a more fragile feeling version of my 2007 Toshiba Laptop. I actually found myself taking out my old Alienware mouse and plugging it into the laptop so I wouldn’t have to use the track pad. I’ll be honest here, My $200 trackpad on my school loaned chromebook feels better and smoother than this one. The display. . . is nothing special. Just a simple 1080p display that’s a little cool out of the box, like most other laptops. Non-Gloss and all that other stuff. . . 95% sRGB and 71% AdobeRGB. The main missing feature with the display is the fact that it doesn’t include a touchscreen. Yeah, I get that touchscreens are becoming more and more necessary, but if you honestly needed a touch screen display, you should just buy the Zenbook 303 for $70 more if you’re truly dying. The battery is a 54 watt hour cell that lasts about what you’d expect. I get about 7-8 hours of usage from 100-0% at about 50% brightness. The wifi card is an intel 802.11 A/C, nothing special but it gets the job done. The card is supposed to be a little slower than the newer wifi cards found in newer ultrabooks, but I don’t really notice the difference day to day. The laptop, being an ultrabook, comes with intel hd graphics 520 which, surprisingly, managed to get an average of 45 fps on my Minecraft usage benchmark. For all you other people, it got a score of 821 on the 3DMark Firestrike Benchmark. The SSD is made by Micron, which is connected over a SATA 3 interface that’s 256 GB strong. I get about 460 Mbps read. The boot time is less than 10 seconds to boot up the first app, and use smoothly. The laptop also comes with another configuration for $70 more that comes with a backlit keyboard and touch screen display, and $400 more for a 512 GB SSD, 12Gb of ram, a Quad HD Display (2560x1440), and a gtx940m with the exact same body as before. The Laptop has 3 USB 3.0 Ports, an SD-Card Reader, a mini hdmi port, and a headphone jack. No USB-C, but I guess we can’t expect future proofness with a budget of $750. Fun fact, I didn’t know that a mini hdmi port was a thing until I checked out a review of this laptop. The world’s adding so much random crap. There’s little no no noticeable keyboard flex that I can detect as I write this review on my bed, but the power jack isn’t quite as good. It’s a thick style design that takes up two spots on an outlet because of how fat it is, and the jack just seems a little too far out of the laptop when it’s plugged in to feel safe and secure. The 305 comes with no actual software that I felt the need to remove, other than one or two that I usually do, but those are just because I don’t see the use for them, not because their bloatware. The Speakers are bottom firing and are muffled whenever they're in use, I can’t really say much more as I usually use headphones, but expect what you’d get from bottom firing speakers. Finally, the hand rest area seems to show sweat quite easily as I am beginning to notice as I type this review, but don’t leave any mark, just a little odd. To conclude, the UX305UA is what you'd expect from an ultrabook, a premium feel, oddly mac like design, better than average display, light weight, no dvd drive, and other premium things. What makes the 305 special is that it gives you all of this, aside from a decent trackpad, for less than $750. It's truly an amazing price point. *Update - 11.02.16 - Once battery drops below 10% and battery saver starts kicking in, it pretty much becomes unusable until you put it into a wall charger. Asus' low power mode is wayyy to strong. Other than that, everything in the review is about right.
  16. I'm currently using a 14" HP pavilion g4 model 2235dx for all my computing needs. I got it from my dad about 5 years ago and it's starting to show its age and not run the games I want anymore. I'm not rich by any means. I maybe make around $800 and half or more goes to rent, bills, and food a month. I'm thinking of upgrading to at $500 laptop that won't run things at max or even medium graphics, but can at least support minimum with pretty good FPS per second. I'm really scared about shopping and not buying something that will not significantly better. Current specs: GPU: Radeon HD 7520G CPU: AMD A6 4400 (2.7 GHz w/ 3.2 GHz Turbo) RAM: 8 GBs I've looked around and I found that a lot of Acers have pretty good specs for low cost. I've found one with: GPU: GeForce 940m CPU: i5-6200U (2.3 GHz w/ 2.8 GHz Turbo) RAM: 8 GBs I don't know how well to convert these and it seems like the GPU on the Acer blows away the one on my HP but the cpu is what scared me. It seems weaker than my AMD A6, but I don't know since scores from cpubenchmark.net say otherwise. I usually play FFXIV daily, with the occational Subnautica, Skull Girls, FF HD rereleases, Portal 1 & 2, Borderlands 2, Alan Wake, and Silent Hill titles. I get about 25 to 30 fps on FFXIV and would love to be able to get more. Right now I can't really even raid cause of my computer's limits.

  19. So in question is a laptop supporting a I7 920xm paired with a HD 5870. Is this a viable entry solution for around 250$?
  20. I want to get my little brother a laptop that has these specs or higher as he needs to use it at school on his desk and at home on the couch. He only wants to play minecraft at like 30+ fps have a 13" display or higher be reasonably thin have at least 2 usb ports thank you so much for finding something for me to get him
  21. Just trying to get some help here from somebody that may know more than me. I am currently looking for a laptop powerful enough for my needs without really breaking the bank. I'm not too interested in playing AAA title games that have demanding graphics right now. I really just want something that I can do some simple video editing (nothing too ambitious), maybe some streaming, some photoshop, and to for sure create games. I'm really only interested in making 2D games (like the type HeartBeast is making on YouTube) with Game Maker Studios. I have been considering the Lenovo Y-70 but I'm starting to think it might have too much horse power now. If I could possibly save a few hundred on a laptop that would be able to perform all the tasks I am wanting to throw at it with ease, that would be awesome! Preferably something that has a good 17" display. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Oh and sorry if this is posted under the wrong category.
  22. Looking for a budget laptop for price of USD $400 to 500. good for college and good for gaming.
  23. My laptop has had its second hard drive failure. I am done with fixing it. I have 1500 cad (1200 usd) maximum to spend on a laptop. I don't really care about form factor. I will use for video editing and Photoshop, light gaming.
  24. So a few months ago I was looking for a nice budget laptop to take along to work with me on my 10 hour shifts. I settled on the HP Stream and I must say I was entirely underwhelmed. I wasn't expecting much from it but I got even less. The following is a script from a video review I was going to do on it. 24 hours with the HP Stream Review Why did I buy the stream? Well I will admit it was a bit of an impulsive purchase. My Macbook is almost dead and it constantly freezes up, so it’s really not worth trying to work on. I bought the Stream because I needed something to work on that wasn’t my phone, or a tablet. I’m really picky when it comes to what I feel I can “work” on. I love mobile operating systems but I can’t do any more than review a document or add a few sentences here and there. I needed something with a decent sized screen and was also small enough to take on the go. While I did briefly consider an Asus transformer tablet I decided against it as the screen was too small. 10 inch tablets are great but I run into the same problem that I do with my phone which is the screen size. The stream has a pretty fair tradeoff when it comes to the display. The size is perfect, but the color reproduction and viewing angles leave something to be desired. It had terrible contrast and would be horrendous if it were used outdoors. Also for $40 more you can pickup a touch screen version of the stream which if you can afford it I would suggest you get it. Now on to hardware. I wasn’t too impressed by the RAM, seeing as other laptops in the $300 plus price range offer 4 gigs as compared to the Stream’s 2GB. The Stream had enough power to do what I need it to do, however if there was an option to upgrade to 4GB I would do so without hesitation. The storage capacity also leaves something to be desired, it comes with 32GB of internal storage with only around 20GB being usable out of the box. Don’t quote me on that as I have installed several applications at the time of writing this video. The lack of storage is made up for with the 1TB of cloud storage you get with it. The processor is a dual core Intel® Celeron® N2840 clocked at 2.16Ghz with a 1mb cache. There isn’t much to be said here other than I was expecting less from it than what I got. At least initially. The Stream also features 1 USB 3 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a microSD card reader, 3.5mm headphone out, and HDMI out. The keyboard is better than decent, I wouldn’t call it the best keyboard ever but with the chicklet style keys it reminds me of the macbook keyboards. The trackpad hasn’t really impressed me, it has gestures such as pinch to zoom, swipe in from the left to switch between apps, from the right to bring up the charms bar, and so on. I find these gestures to be very finicky. Often times I will try to move my cursor and I swipe to a different application. Of course you can turn this feature off if you like. The stream also comes LOADED with bloatware such as tripadvisor, snapfish, amazon, and a bunch of HP utilities that you really don’t need. I have run into some issues with the Stream most of which are very minor. The biggest issue has been with the audio, 95% of the time the audio is fine, but on occasion it will pop and crackle and there will be some sort of “sound warping”. This only lasts a second or two, but I really don’t want to have that be something I just live with. I checked HP’s help center and noticed that other people have had this same issue, one user even said they had experienced this on other laptops in this price range. Video playback was sub-par, It handled 720p with no fuss, but try to push it to 1080p and it’s a struggle. Even Netflix had trouble with playback, and while I was doing the testing for video playback I was within 15 feet of the router, as I was trying to get the best results while trying to create a “day to day use” scenario. All in all the HP Stream is a great buy if you are looking for a machine to do basic word processing and web browsing, if you plan on doing ANY more than that then I suggest you save your money and get something better. You might be able to enjoy the occasional youtube video but I would not recommend using the stream for video content.
