So I have a 32GB USB drive with a custom Windows installer created by Rufus. I wanna create a bootable ISO, and put that ISO on a USB drive with Ventoy, without using all 32GB (only the necessary amount). What's the best way to do it? Is it still possible to resize the disk to the necessary amount without affecting its ability as a bootable USB?

Although it is not the first of it's kind, what is Ventoy? Ventoy is an open source utility for creating bootable USB media containing multiple OS installers. This does away with the traditional re-formatting of thumb drives again, and again, and again every time you need to install something different. Once you install Ventoy to a reasonably sized thumb drive all you have to do is download the .ISO's that you need and save them to the open partition the Ventoy installer creates. The software is compatible with a broad array of popular Windows, GNU/Linux, & UNIX based Operating Systems including but not limited to: CentOS FreeBSD Hiren's BootCD PE pfSense PROXMOX TrueNAS CORE Ubuntu Desktop Ubuntu Server VMware vSphere/ESXi Windows 10 NOTE: Not every OS and OS version are fully tested. Your mileage may vary. Test what you need before relying on Ventoy. For a full list of compatible operating systems refer to their compatibility list linked here. 1. Installation From here Ventoy is ready to use! Ventoy is still an active project which receives periodic updates. For this reason in both Windows & GNU/Linux you have the ability to update Ventoy itself without reinstalling all of your .ISO files. This brings feature updates which may increase .ISO compatibility helping in edge cases where certain Operating Systems don't want to work with Ventoy.

The computer that im trying to but it on recognizes it in bios, but doesnt boot to it. I have been using PowerISO for this. Should i use anything different? So I have been experimenting all day trying to install PFsense in my new PFsense box (HP 8000 Elite) which I got for free and found relatively cheap quad nic card. I have updated the BIOS to v1.17(something on those lines). I have follow the PFsense wiki on how flash .img onto a usb. At first I thought I didn't flash PFsense correctly or a usb issue but that not may be the case. I have tired both Rufus/Linux DD/win32 on both current and previous versions of PFsense. I have tried boot off usb on my main rig and laptop and boot perfectly. When ever I tried to boot off usb on PFsense box I either get boot error or non stop flashing unscore. The only thing that would work was nanobsd, which I flash into my hard drive as well usb which both works. But I want install my PFsense onto my hard drive for squid cache. Right now it running nanobsd. Is there a way to install using nano bsd to install onto another hard drive or current one?

A little background is necessary here, so bear with me! I recently upgraded my system from an FX 6350 to an i7 6700k, and therefor changed motherboards in the act. I foolishly forgot this meant a clean install of windows, and now I'm left with a PC that will crash whenever I try to load windows. This, however, is not the problem. The problem is that after creating a bootable USB, my system refuses to recognize it in UEFI mode. If I'm in UEFI + Legacy mode, I can find the USB stick in the boot menu; once selected, it says "windows is loading files" then crashes shortly after. My HDD has not been wiped, but shouldn't I be able to install windows on my SSD, or at least get to a place where I can make this choice through the bootable usb? Thanks in advance for the help!

So i made a Bootable USB using Windows 10 iso via Rufus. Now when i connect it to my PC i go through the UEFI and access windows installation. The sequence goes fine until there's "this" error (shown in pictures) I did a google search of course and tried the usb port swapping method and even checked if my drive was there via CMD My SSD is showing online on Diskpart but cant see it on the PC yet. I also did convert it to GPT as I made my usb GPT bootable. Dunno really. Hope I can get some help from you genius people to get back up and game hard. Cheers

Hello, so, I've bought a brand new SSD and I've tried to install windows 10 on it with a bootable usb that I've made using the tool downloaded from this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 but, no matter what I do the usb drive was not detected. I've set the "usb storange drive" at the top of the list in the "boot sequence" on the bios but neither with the new SSD or the old HDD that I have the bootable usb its not detected. The usb drive its new as well. If you have any idea of what could be happening please let me know, thank you. NOTE: My PC is the Dell Precision m6600 (sorry for the bad english)

Hey, so my friend has put together his pc, and wants to install windows 10. his house is a mac only household, so i cant simply use windows to create a bootable usb stick, and all the tutorials i have found online are not really functioning as expected. we use the program “etcher” which also stated it might not be good enough or the right program for the task. When attempting to boot of the usb post etcher, we get a error message stating we are missing certain drivers to install windows. does anyone have a simple or mediocre way to create a bootable usb stick? For windows 10 on a mac? (boot camp is not showing the option to create a bootable usb, only shows the option to partition the macs drive to run dual operating systems)

So, I submitted a post a few days ago about changing motherboards and not being able to boot Windows 10 off of my hard drive. Well, I made a bootable Windows 10 usb from the creators tool, and now I can't even boot off of that. I am getting really desperate and will try about anything right now. When it boots off of the USB, the dots spin about 1/4 the way around and then freeze. Thank You for any suggestions, chumpty

Hey everyone, So a couple months ago, I managed to score a sweet deal from ebay for a good price. The specs are down below: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 GPU: GTX 660 Motherboard: LGA 775 - GA-G31M-S2L Power Supply: Unspecific 500w Storage: SSHD 2TB After looking through the PC, I realised that the previous owner had placed Windows 10 32 Bit on this computer. As a gamer, the 32 bit operating system wasn't going to work with the new games coming out, so I strive towards acquiring Windows 10 64 bit through the guidance of How To Geek and Windows Central. The issue came when I got to the first step in Windows Central's guide at the "Install a 64 bit version of Windows 10". When trying to boot into the USB, after changing the boot settings to boot to the USB, this image appears I'm unsure on what exactly I have done incorrectly and I'm now asking the best tech community I know, for help. Thanks guys

Hi all, I'm doing my first PC build and I was just wondering as to risks of making a bootable Windows 10 USB. It seems super easy with the Rufus software and gets rid of the need to spend $110 on a new key. However, and I don't remember where I heard/read this, but I recall hearing that making a bootable Windows 10 USB sacrifices the machine or product key you used to make the bootable USB. I guess the question I'm asking is if I can still use my laptop after I make the bootable USB or if I'm better off to buy the Operating System. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I've just purchased a new laptop that doesn't come with Windows. It also doesn't have a DVD drive, and I don't have any spare copies of Windows lying around. Now, you can buy (at least here in Germany, not sure about other regions) Dell's spare old OEMs of Windows 7 for just twenty bucks. It's available as a download with key. Is it even possible to create a bootable USB drive with an OEM or should I just buy a USB DVD drive? I don't really need one, as I still have other machines that'll work just fine for anything CD/DVD related. Cheers, Jonas

Hello, and thanks for reading this already! I've made a bootable USB stick to install Ubuntu Linux on my second HDD partition. Now, every time I boot the USB, eventually the screen becomes a small square in the top left if my screen. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance! (I've heard of Nomodeset, but I can't reach the options to enable that. Can you enable Nomodeset trough the normal USB files?)

I'm doing my first gaming pc build and my msi z97 gaming 7 won't boot from my bootable win7 usb drive. I went in the bios and rearranged the boot device priority so it boots from the flash drive but when I reboot the screen just goes black and nothing happens. I don't have a dvd drive or a windows dvd so I can't try it that way. I know the bootable usb works because I tested it on another computer. Please help. i7 4790k MSI Z97 GAMING 7 GTX 960 Crucial Ballistix 16gb DDR3 WD 1TB HD Corsair CX600M

Hi there, I need to download 'bootsect.exe' as I am reinstalling windows using the windows 7 USB/DVD download tool (I am using a USB as a boot drive to install windows) and I keep getting the error: 'we were unable to run bootsect to make the device bootable'. I know that you can download bootsect from the Microsoft store from your purchase history, however I didn't have a Microsoft account at the time I purchased windows 7. does anybody know a way around this to make the device bootable? Any help on this matter would be much appreciated, thank you.

I have created a multiboot USB drive using YUMI (multiboot installer). On it, I have a variety of different bootable tools, including Ubuntu with a persistent file, Windows Vista/7/8 40-in-1 multi installer (so basically it is like a boot disk but for every version of windows between vista and 8), and a whole load of linux-based and probably linux-based diagnostic & recovery tools (memtest86+ etc). FAT32 would be the obvious file system for this, mainly due to its compatibility, but the file size limit of ~4GiB makes it impossible because the windows installer has a file which is 7.9GiB, and so doesn't work when I try to put it on FAT32. I have installed it on an NTFS formatted drive now (including updating to the latest version of ubuntu), but now it just restarts when I tell ubuntu to boot as a live usb. Is this an issue with my installation of ubuntu, or does it dislike being installed on NTFS. If that is the case, what file system would you suggest? Note: other bootable tools seem to be functioning, and the windows installer works.
