I have recently upgraded to a 7900 xtx and got a new PSU to make sure I had plenty of power. I was running a 750w before and upgraded to a 1000w. But since I hooked up the new PSU, I cannot get the PC to boot. When i power up the PSU, RGB lights on the motherboard light up and then if I hit the power button the pc briefly lights up then dies, when I press the power button again, nothing happens. If I power down the PSU, let it discharge then power it back up I can try to power the PC again one more time before the Power button does nothing. I switched back to the old one and it does the same thing... Any help would be appreciated... :) Added a video of the issue. https://photos.app.goo.gl/fnwm9WSrA2DuFhqR9

Shame on me, I didn’t know about the apparently common bug that does this when installing windows with multiple drives installed. My main system partition is on my primary SSD where I want it to be. My EFI boot partition is on my secondary SSD My recovery partition is on my 7 old HDD that’s probably a year or two out from failure. Ideally I would like all of these partitions on the previously mentioned primary SSD. Is there any easy way to move those partitions or create new ones for my main SSD? I really would prefer to not have to reinstall windows. I am using Windows 11, and otherwise my system is behaving completely normally. I just would really like this fixed.

Hello there all! Im facing this problem with my OS disk right now... My specifications are: Motherboard: Asus Prime Z790-A Wifi OS Disk: NVME M.2 WD_Black sn770 OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (I think... is there 23H2? ...) (CPU, Graphics card, and secondary disks being some SSD and HDD). This past week I have been experiencing random high disk usages at my OS disk, that would freeze Windows for some minutes. Events were showing there was some kind of problem with RAID disk E/S Today after a freeze, I was just really tired of not being able to at least shutdown properly the PC, waiting for 15 minutes watching the freezed screen.... so I "hard shutdowned" it.. after waiting a bit, and trying to boot it again, as I did some other times this week (bcause, as I say, it is happening a lot theese days..), I stumbled upon seeing that I could not boot the windows system on my NVME M2. It took a few tries for the motherboard BIOS to even recognize the disk. When trying to boot it, it says it does not have a bootable sector.... I took an SSD with windows 11 from an old computer, and when connecting it to the PC, and accessing the Disk Management, I can see how the NVME M2 disk appears: As "RAW" format, without being able to access its data, but showing the partitions: EFI system partition -100MB Basic data partition - 1800GB RAW Recovery partition -760MB 2MB Unallocated all partitions show "correct" status I wonder, if there is any way to recover the file system data, as well as to reuse the NVME M2 disk (WD_Black sn770) as system disk, again.... Translated with DeepL.com (free version) I can add the screenshots that show the info about the disk thorugh the DiskManagement of the booted Windows, at an old SSD Thank in advice for any comment here!

I've just completed assembling my new PC with the following components: - CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D - CPU Cooler: Deepcool ASSASSIN IV - GPU: Gigabyte 4070 TI SUPER Aero - Mainboard: Gigabyte AORUS Elite AX ICE AMD B650 So.AM5 - RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB (2x 16GB, 5200MHz) - PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 12 M Modular 1000 Watt 80+ Gold However, I'm encountering a problem. After finishing the build, I updated the BIOS via Q-Flash Plus and attempted to power on the machine. Unfortunately, nothing happened. I waited, considering that AM5 systems sometimes take longer to boot. But even after 20 minutes, there was no progress. Upon restarting, I noticed that the DRAM LED was illuminated, indicating an issue. Here are the troubleshooting steps I've already taken: - Tried different RAM configurations (using one DIMM in different slots, swapping DIMMs between slots). - Flashed an older BIOS version. - Removed all storage devices (including two different M.2 drives). - Removed the GPU. - Cleared the CMOS. - Cleared the CMOS and re-flashed the BIOS. - Removed the CPU, CPU cooler, and re-flashed the BIOS. Another thing I have noticed is that the 2 CPU cooler fans are not spinning even though they are connected Despite researching on YouTube and various forums, I haven't been able to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any other DDR5 RAM or AM5 CPUs to test with. Thank you in advance from Germany and for any help or advice.

Hi all, I have a laptop which work let me keep when we moved over to new laptops. Admittedly i think it was just a nice IT guy as opposed to company policy. However, the laptop is bios locked, initially I managed to boot it from usb windows media, and reinstalled windows, removing all partitions (bitlocker was mentioned during this part). Now when I turn on the laptop it takes me to a corporate login page, seems like initial set up of a corporate laptop. I am wondering if I replace the SSD if this will solve the issues and I can reinstall windows on it then? I’ve also read that if I use the new ssd in this machine it will be locked to that machine? I believe the Bios lock is going to be impossible to remove. Happy to answer any questions.

I'm hoping someone might know what's causing this. My computer has been having this issue where I can power it off but cannot power it back on without resetting my surge protector. I'm on this computer as I write this. It runs perfectly fine and there are no indications it's struggling for power or anything else is struggling peripherally. All fans are running, all lights work, nothing sounds or seems off about it at all. If I turn off the computer and try to turn it back on, it appears as though there's no power and the computer refuses to respond at all. I suspect the issue may be the surge protector as when I reset it, the issue corrects itself. I believe I have a number of power hungry items and this is resulting in the PC becoming sensitive to the power being consumed by the other items on the same surge protector. I have my PC I have two screens screens I have my Rodecaster Pro ii I have my internet routers I also have two peripherals attached to the computer (An Elgato Stream Deck and a Key Light) My Surge Protector is a - APC Surge Protector Power Strip with a 4320 Joule capacity. This in turn plugs into a TESSEN brand smart outlet box on my wall outlet. The plug the surge protector is connected to is not one of the smart outlets. Obviously, there can be something wrong with the computer as well but the fact this issue was tied to my surge protector makes me think it's external. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what I can do or what tests I can run to rule out any bigger issues. If it does turn out it's a surge protector, is there a higher capacity one you can suggest which may help prevent this going forward? Edit: I unplugged my Rodecaster Pro ii and my entire system booted up. It's not the computer. It's a conflict with the power draw of the Rodecaster competing with my computer.

TYAN S8030GM2NE will often fail to boot into windows. Boot sequence looks like this: BMC loading starts → ends BIOS loading starts → ends Windows loading starts → several spins of dotted donut Keyboard lighting blinks and everything goes to 1. I tried different BIOS versions (4.02 and 4.00), removing all USB devices (i though it could be KVM’s fault), resetting CMOS and BMC HW, checking windows for errors (scannow, etc) - nothing found. 20 hours of memtest86 also gave no errors. Later, Windows event log states kernel-power with 0’s in all fields. (Not every time this bootloop happens, though) Board is from the early revisions, with 32MB BMC flash. Current BMC and BIOS versions are v3.00 and v4.00. Windows Server 2019 was updated to the lastest version. Full hardware list: CPU - EPYC 7302 MB - TYAN S8030GM2NE CPU Cooler - Exegate ESNK-P0064AP4 RAM - SK Hynix 16Gb 2Rx8 PC4-3200AA HMA82GR7CJR8N-XN, 8 sticks Case - SilverStone Grandia GD07 PSU - DEEPCOOL PQ750M NIC - Mellanox ConnectX-3 CX354A SSD - Intel 545s SSDSC2KW256G8XT. Checked windows boot logs. Failed one differs with the good one at “BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys” Failed boot log ntbtlog.txt Successful boot log ntbtlog.txt Bad one has that string 2 times, and ends exactly at the second attempt. Good one keeps loading further, gets a 3rd (failed?) attempt and keeps going. All failed boot logs look exactly the same, while successful ones usually have several driver entries in different positions in the log (overall number of entries is the same).

NEW BUILD PROBLEM I am running into an issue where my new build isn’t booting. I built the PC out of scraps from previous builds. All components are good and have been used on previous builds for testing. I put everything together and now my ram and usb devices aren’t being detected. I have gone through every troubleshooting process I can think of and have hit a wall. The only new component I have bought was a new GPU (only purchased because I wanted to check out the 40 series). Here is a list of the systems specs; intel i7 4780k asus z590-a motherboard PNY 8gb RTX 4060 (brand new just purchased) 16gb of ddr4 ram 1.5 tb of storage 700w power supply

Hello! Introduction to the problem: This issue is not mine to solve but one I attempted to help my younger brother with and am now having issues with. I will include all the necessary info via a photo of his system info. I gifted my younger brother his first PC with what was my first starter build, his mother board is an ASRock B450m/ac, originally it only had 250gb ssd installed, this eventually became a problem for him as he's a gamer and is currently playing the new COD MW3, any players of the current COD games would know this game is extremely storage taxing and will take up most of the storage when all you have is 250gb to work with, I instructed him to buy a new ssd with at least 1T of storage if he wants to be able to play the games he is wishing to be able to play on the pc as COD was obviously not going to work error free when he was only allowed 5gb of storage when the game is fully downloaded. He was running out of storage during the gameplay thus causing the game to crash when it would reach its limit. He purchased a Crucial P3 1TB PCIe 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD (C1000P3SSD8) via my instruction and go ahead as I'd checked over and over with multiple sources whether or not it was compatible with his current motherboard and got a confirmation every time that it was indeed compatible. The problem: I instructed him to use his external hdd to install a windows 11 backup media so that he may reinstall it once the new M.2 was installed, which he did successfully. Once he'd removed and installed the new M.2 to his pc, and attempted to reboot, his PC will not boot into BIOS at all. He's tried every key possible, we've checked if it was installed correctly several times, we have been totally unsuccessful with every troubleshooter i was able to find, i've never had an issue such as this and am running out of options for support aside from taking the PC to get looked at by tech support at our local shops. If anyone could get back to me today/tonight about this solution i'd be very appreciative, as I was the one instructing him during this process and I dont want to scare him away from buying and installing his own PC parts in the future, thank you in advance! All system information provided in the attached Photo

REMINDER: this thread is not to ask questions about your PC. Please create a NEW thread if you still have issues after going through this thread. So, you've put together your brand new, shining rig. You plug in the power cord and push the button. Nothing happens. What now? The answer depends on what is happening: The machine doesn't do anything. No beeps, LEDs or spinning fans. Check if your power cable is firmly plugged in on both ends (you would be surprised how many issues this resolves) Check if the power supply (PSU) has a button to cut the power to the machine. Check if this button is in the position denoted with ON or I Check if EVERY power cable is plugged in securely, reseat if necessary. Check if the power button is installed correctly (consult your motherboard manual) Try shorting out the pins you connect the power button to manually. If this powers on your system, you have a faulty power button. Check with a device of which you know that it works if the power outlet you're using is actually providing power. If this hasn't solved the problem, check if your PSU isn't dead. To do this, you can follow these steps: Unplug your power cord and/or flip the switch on the back of the PSU in the position denoted with OFF or 0 Unplug every connector coming from your PSU (this is very important) Using a bent paperclip, short out the green wire on the 24 pin header with any of the black wires, like so. If you have a PSU that shuts down its fan under low load, or a PSU that is fanless, connect something small like a hard drive to it. Plug in your power cord and/or flip the switch on the back of the PSU in the position denoted with ON or I If the PSU does NOT power on (the fan/hard drive you connected should start spinning) after following these steps, your PSU is in all likelyhood defective. Request an RMA. If the PSU DOES power on, then the problem is most likely your motherboard. The machine does power up, but my screen remains black (no POST). Make sure your BIOS version is compatible with the CPU generation you're trying to run in your motherboard, you can consult the manual or the manufacturer's website about this. Check if EVERY power cable is connected. Auxiliary power connectors included. Make sure the cable coming from your monitor is attached securely to the graphics card. Also make sure it is securely attached to the monitor itself. Make sure your PSU is powerful enough to power your complete system. Try booting the system with only a monitor but no other peripherals connected. (Thanks @Steven Schaefer) Make sure your monitor works by testing it on a different computer. If you have both a dedicated GPU and an iGPU, try your monitor on both the outputs on the graphics cards as well as on the motherboard. When trying the iGPU, if the board has VGA out, try that too instead of just digital out. (Discovered by @evening) Make sure all connectors and cables are plugged in securely, reseat if necessary. Make sure your RAM, CPU and GPU are plugged in securely, reseat if necessary. Remove riser cables between GPU and motherboard. If this solves the issue, try lowering your PCIe version/speed in the bios to PCIe 3 or lower (Thanks @problemsolver) If the motherboard you're using has debug LEDs, check the error code and consult the motherboard manual to see what it means. If you have a debug speaker connected to the motherboard, note the beep sequence and consult the motherboard manual or this thread to see what it means. Try clearing your CMOS. Try booting your computer with only a motherboard, CPU and one stick of RAM attached (if you don't have an iGPU, plug in your GPU as well ). Make sure your GPU works (if you have a dedicated one), try it in another computer. Make sure your RAM works, try it another computer. Make sure the RAM is compatible with your CPU and your motherboard. If the PC still doesn't POST after this, create a new thread and, as explained here, post IN FULL DETAIL about your problem. Make sure you include the following: System configuration Troubleshooting steps you already did Any additional information that may be relevant. Lastly, if you find any mistakes/grammatical errors, inaccuracies or missing steps in this post, please do post them in a comment so I can fix it. PS: @TheXDS has posted how you can do some more in depth checking of the internal circuitry of you PSU. The only thing you need is a multimeter or potentiometer (if you're oldschool :D). You can find his post at http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/42440-readme-how-to-respond-to-a-no-post-or-no-power-up-situation/?p=4561958

Parts list at the bottom. I know this doesn't sound like an error but when I turn on the PC I have a weird issues with the post LEDs. Each time I boot up the PC both the CPU and DRAM LEDs light up at the same time then the PC will boot successfully with no issues after about 1-2 minutes with no issues. I've got an Acer Aspire a315-g42-r5yr Laptop from a friend for basic maintenance. After cleaning everything, changing bios battery, i went to reinstall windows, i successfully booted the installer, installed windows, and then: no bootable device found. I've tried all over again, and again, then i started troubleshooting. I went trough every posibble setting in bios, least 3 times and if windows is installed, i get no bootable device error. But if ubuntu is installed, everything is working fine. Any ideas why is this happening?

Hey! So I know that UEFI is the new fancy bios with all the fancy gui and secure boot and stuff. Legacy bios is the old one for MBR systems. However, I read that there is a performance difference when installing an Operating System from UEFI bios and LEGACY bios. Is this true? If yes, which one should I go for while installing the OS?(Windows, Linux dualboot)

Good day LTT, I have an issue with the home server I am trying to DIY. The original motherboard for this build (which had successfully booted into Ubuntu) got bricked; not sure how. I swapped the entire build over to a new motherboard (MSI PRO PRO B550-VC AM4 AMD B550). I was able to get into BIOS, see all my hardware, but when I try to boot, I am stuck on the MSI Pro Series splash screen. I have the Ubuntu Boot USB plugged in ready to reinstall the OS, but no action is being taken. I can get into BIOS, the boot priority is set properly, and I disabled XMP as a test. No lights are on in the diagnostic LEDs. Any idea what else I can try? The rest of the build is an AMD Ryzen 5600G (using integrated graphics), 32GB of Corsair DDR4, a Samsung M.2 970 Evo that the old OS was installed on, and 4 HDDs (2 WD 1TB blue drives and 2 WD 4TB red drives)

My friend upgraded today to a new motherboard and CPU and now his boot drive wont show up but all the other drives do show up. I thought it could be an issue with it being windows 11 and him not having the settings properly setup in his bios. I looked through his bios and wasn't able to enable UEFI do to not being able to find the setting, I was told it was CSM so I tried that but I'm not sure if that is the same thing. Also I tried enabling AMD CPU fTPM but the setting didn't exist in his bios. There was a reddit post that I can't find anymore saying that m.2 is no longer supported on AM5 so if that is true then I'm pretty sure that is the issue but I don't know for sure what his drive is. I'm sorry for not knowing the exact model names for everything but if you are able to help with this info then thank you. Hi, I am rebuilding my pc and swapped out the motherboard. For a couple days now I have been trouble shooting. Specs: Asus z-370 f gaming Trident z royal ddr4 3600 2080 ti i7-9700k My PC is only booting when one ram stick is in and seems to short out otherwise with it turning on, flickering, turning off, then doing it again. I have tested both sticks and all the ram ports and they all work fine when just one stick is inputted. My bios is up to date and I have played with the ram frequency and voltage to match my motherboards specification but it still wont boot with two sticks in. I have lessened the tightness of my cooler as I know that can sometimes effect the memory. I have no idea what could be causing this issue so if you have any idea please let me know. Thanks for the help!

If I boot up my PC, it takes usually 60 seconds and that is too much. On the stoplight system of Asus on the motherboard I can see, that it is because of the DRAM. The orange light on my motherboard is on. That is the indicator, that is is checking the DRAM and it takes very long. Please Help Greetings, DoggyD PS English is not my first language. I don't wanna offend anyone.

I have 2 sk hynix drives, one from another system of mine and one that I’m trying to put in an older laptop for my nieces and nephews. They both work in my system, but when I try to boot to the smaller one for the kids, it can’t find a boot device. The 1 tb one works fine, and they are both the same brand and everything, just different sizes. What could be causing this, especially since they both work in other devices?

I just restarted my computer after trying to reinstall the Vulcan drivers for my GPU using [this tutorial](https://linuxconfig.org/install-and-test-vulkan-on-linux). When I booted I was greeted with a white screen that says `Oh no something has gone wrong`. I have already tried updating my system with `sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade` like [this topic](https://askubuntu.com/questions/1239025/after-upgrade-to-ubuntu-20-04-oh-no-something-went-wrong) said, but it hasn’t worked at all. As my PC boots up right before the error shows up, this text appears on the screen. ```none /dev/nvme0n1p2: recovering journal /dev/nvme0n1p2: clean, 730378/61022208 files, 119228208/244059136 blocks 5.465823] usb 3-3: 3:1: cannot get freq at ep 0x84 5.492013] usb 3-3: Failed to query (GET_INFO) UVC control 5 on unit 1: 0 (exp. 1) ```

This one is hard to explain, so I also included a video of the intermittent issue. So far, this has occurred like clockwork once daily but is remedied after a single restart. When I get home from work, the first startup often results in Windows loading incredibly slowly, like unusable speeds. Mouse movement stutters and Windows lags behind. Opening basic applications causes long freezes. This doesn't seem to recover, either. I turned on my PC once and took a shower, made dinner, and cleaned my room, and it still was in this eternal state of lag. To make matters worse, this often occurs alongside another issue where my second monitor display does not receive a signal. Turning the monitor off and on does nothing, switching cables and verifying it's secured. This is where things get weird, though. If I simply restart the PC, everything acts as normal. Windows is as responsive as it should be, and my second monitor comes to life. Every single time I start the PC for the first time in the day, I'm forced to power it off and basically retry. I believe I have ruled out software, as it continued occurring after a fresh Windows install. I performed ran Memtest86, knowing AM5 boards using EXPO had issues, but it passed. I ran several tests in Samsung magician, and everything passed. I'm concerned this could be a GPU problem; what should my next diagnostic step be? I do not have a second GPU on hand.
