I noticed this problem where my boot drive priority resets whenever I manually restart my PC (its about 1 week old). I have to reenter the BIOS to reconfigure the priority to be able to boot. It only happens on manual restarts (so far). All auto restart due to updates or shutdowns/sleep do not have this problem. Does anyone know why? Thanks P.S. I have 2 drives, 1 NVME SSD & 1 HDD and I am using a B450 AORUS Pro Wifi Motherboard if that helps.

Hello everyone! I managed to clone my Windows 10 from my old HDD with Macrium Reflect to my new SSD. However, whenever I go into my boot priority and change it so that my SSD is first, it gives me an error saying "Reboot and select proper boot device" I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I would appreciate some help! Thank you everyone!

So I've this ROG GL552VW laptop from ASUS, and ever since I got it, it has had this BIOS admin password. I never really needed those admin settings on my laptop so never really bothered with that much, until now. I need access to the boot priority settings and that falls under the admin settings. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING THAT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE, i.e. o removing CMOS battery o resetting date to a certain date and then in bios pw window alt + r o alt + r in bios pw window (does nothing and inputs an r instead) o every possible combination of the three above o entering password incorrectly 3 times (it's supposed to show a reset pw dialogue. it doesn't. it just freezes everything and you need to restart the PC) So, is there any way to reset it or taking it to ASUS is the only way to go? Is it even possible to reset the password so easily?

I have been having an issue where my pc will not automatically boot to my M.2 drive, even after changing the boot priorities and resetting my mobo settings then trying again. Every time I have to manually boot the drive, and then it loads fine. Does anyone know how to solve this issue? My Pc specs are as follows; PCPartPicker part list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/PcGxzY CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor (Overclocked to 4.22Ghz) CPU Cooler: GAMDIAS - CHIONE M1A 240R 52 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: Asus - ROG Crosshair VII Hero ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (Overclocked to 3266Mhz) Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 250 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: MSI - GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB Video Card (Stock) Case: Corsair - Crystal 570X RGB (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-04-21 19:43 EDT-0400 Boot drive is Samsung 970 EVO, Game and priority storage is Samsung 860 EVO, and my old WD Blue drive was an old boot drive from another computer which has been reformated and is now used for general non-priority storage. * I noticed some other strange behaviour, after changing the boot animation to enable and clicking save changes and reset, it did boot into windows by its self, so for a sanity check I shutdown through windows then turned on my computer again and once again "No boot drive detected" so I had to manually boot from the drive again.

Helli do I just recently installed a m.2 ssd in the system and right before that I pulled out on of my data cables, so they I could use it to my other pc. I somehow then managed to break 2 out of my 4 says ports. Dos making me not able to use all of my 3 drives. I now ended up not even getting a hardrive to show up in the boot priority & and only with a docking station for the HDD it shows up but I still can't boot up to the ssd. See pictures below

So I'm confused about what my BIOS is showing me in 'boot priority'. I have one SSD installed, but two options in boot priority: UEFI Hard Disk:Windows Boot Manager (SATA1: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB) *is selected* Hard Disk:Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250G Furthermore, 'boot mode select' is set to 'LEGACY +UEFI' instead of just UEFI.

Hello everybody! I recently built a new PC with a 2TB Barracuda for storage and a 250GB Samsung 860 EVO for boot. When I was setting up the pc, I made an error (I think), and I installed Windows on the 2TB Hard Drive. Will this affect the boot speed? I checked my boot priority and the first one was my hard drive, then my ssd but if I change it to my ssd first in boot priority, when I try to run windows, it takes me to the black starting page which says "Press del to run setup" I would like to get help on this as I'm pretty sure that my $100 SSD is not being utilized.

I'm new here and if I am supposed to do something before I post for the first time, please forgive me, I'll get there. I recently decided to test the performance benefits of installing an SSD as my boot drive while leaving my HDD as my main storage drive. After researching and trying various options I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on the SSD via USB from the original version. It is only a 120GB drive so I didn't want to clone my other drive as I would have had to remove things and also I would end up with all kinds of stuff on my SSD when I want to keep it ONLY for my OS and a select few programs. So, after successfully installing the OS on my SSD I tried to give it boot priority in the BIOS. For whatever reason, I can only tell it to look for a hard drive first before USB etc. So choosing the SSD over the HDD doesn't seem to be an option. It is currently booted on the HDD and seems to have "windows.old" on it alongside all my original files. It is still labelled as C: and the SSD as D:. I have the SSD physically installed in an adapter which replaces my optical drive and the HDD is still installed in its original place, is this the issue or a contributing factor? I am tempted to just format the drive, boot up and see if the SSD allows it to boot and then add back my files BUT, I have noticed that there are a number of files within the "Windows" folder that are on my HDD but not in the "Windows" folder on my SSD. I'm wondering if it is as simple as copying over the original files and program files (I seriously doubt that). My system is a Dell Vostro 3550 laptop with i5, 12GB RAM. I have all my files backed up so I'm not too stressed about losing data etc. however, I would like to keep it as close to my current version as possible so I don't have to re-install too much or change back too many settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Deano

Okay, so I went away from home for a week to handle some out of town business, so I shut my pc down and flip to power off switch on the power supply after all of the fans stop spinning. A week later, I come home and flip the power supply switch back on and boot my system. Now I get prompted that I have no operating system. So I restart my pc, go into the BIOS, and it is only recognizing one of my 3 drives (my backup drive with no OS). So I try new cables and different ports, nothing changes. Next I look up online troubleshooting and find these steps. (Note: At this point the SSD isn't appearing in the Boot menu, or in the BIOS boot priority list) 1. Unplug data cable going to SSD and load into BIOS for 30 minutes 2. Shutdown pc and replug data cable. 3. Load into BIOS for another 30 minutes, and make sure boot priority is correctly configured. 4. Restart and boot the pc Result: Same message, I have no operating system At this point I try to go into to boot menu (Not the boot priority list) and notice the drive. I tried to launch it but I kept getting a black screen after windows. I repeated with different display options, and eventually got back to my DVI cable which wound up working fine now. So, I booted from the boot menu, downloaded the SANDISK SSD tool and ran both smart tests. The drive appears fine on both the long and short test. Great! The only issue is now everytime I reboot my computer I have to go through the boot menu, or I will get told I have no OS. Any ideas that may help? Hey, so i just recently took my ssd out of my computer so i could run the system outside the case for diagnostics. Now ever since putting my pc back together I cant boot from my ssd, only from windows boot manager, I honestly don't get it. Is windows boot manager just booting from my ssd for me?, My ssd is in the correct sata port, and i have it set to first boot priority and windows boot manager as second. I have removed windows boot manager from second priority, leaving only my ssd, and it will not boot, goes straight into bios. Is there a way to fix this? Or is it okay if I just leave it how it is.

Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, and I switched from having the OS on my HDD to having the OS on my SSD. Now that everything is done, where I try to change the boot priority in the BIOS, Windows boot manager is listed as the first option. What is this? Do I need it? How can I get rid of it? Here is how my Boot Priorities is set up: 1. Windows Boot Manager (P1: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB) 2. P0: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (238475MB) 3. P1 ASUS DRW-24B1ST c It will not let me boot from my second option: the SSD. Also, when I look in Disk Management, there is a 99MB partition shown for "EFI System Partition." it might be worth noting that under Secure Boot, in the BIOS, it shows the OS type as Windows UEFI mode, not sure if that means anything. Any input would be helpful, I've looked for a solution but couldn't find one. Thank you.

Hi, i am currently trying to fix my fathers laptop which is stuck in a boot loop all of a sudden, within the bios it displays that the hard drive is connected to the SATA port and the same for the CD Drive on the system info page, but on the Boot page within the boot device priority setting the only option is "USB FDD:". I originally assumed that the hard drive was broken not even thinking about the CD Drive not showing up so i decided to use my hard drive from my own spare laptop with a smashed screen for it and when i put my spare HDD in with a windows install disk in it as well it just randomly loaded up the windows that was on my spare HDD and cause i couldn't boot from disk and i wanted to wipe all my files from the hard drive before giving it back to my father i just started the windows install from within windows because the CD Drive was working when windows was loaded, after this when it got to the stage where it has to restart to finish the install it just didn't reboot and continued boot looping, at this stage i decided to hook up the original hard drive which i assumed was broken to my desktop via usb to sata and it turns out it wasn't broken as i previously assumed, so i have absolutely no idea what to do at this stage, the Laptop is a 15.6" Series 3 Notebook NP3530EC-A0CDX. The original HDD has Windows 8 on it and my spare hard drive which actually booted up on it once had Windows 7 on it. Any help will be appreciated.

Couple of weeks ago I put memtest on an external 1TB drive (my USB stick was too small). After fixing my problem, I just got rid, formatted. I then put loads of portable programs and a backup of google drive on, and it seemed to work fine. On a laptop (HP Pavillion G6), it would allow the computer to boot up into Windows, and use it as a normal drive. On my desktop, if left in, it would boot up memtest. I even formatted it again, and it still does it. I can go on the thing in file explorer and it's completely empty. Now, I assume it's something to do with my boot priority, however I'm not sure what goes where and what I shouldn't move, so help would be appreciated.

Hi there, I've recently built myself a gaming PC for the first time. I installed Windows 8.1 and everything was running fine for about a week. Then, all of a sudden while I was browsing on Chrome, a blue screen with a Windows message came , with a message along the lines of "Windows has stopped working looking for a solution" (I barely had time to even read it). After a split second, my PC rebooted and my screen just went black. Startled, I tried manually rebooting a couple of times, but no sign of life on the display (although the PC was powered on). Then I plugged my PC into my Samsung TV, and the only thing that came up was the brief BIOS message. I hit 'Del' and entered the BIOS settings, only to find that my boot priority had been changed! I then changed the boot priority back to my original settings, with the SSD as the first boot device. This resolved the issue, and the PC is working fine. But my question is this: assuming the boot priority was the issue, what the hell caused my PC's boot priority to change mid-usage???

Hey all, I've just switched up a few things in my new build and after changing cables and SATA ports, my Samsung 840 EVO no longer appears in the ASUS UEFI BIOS boot options. My old Crucial SSD with Ubuntu installed on it does. Without the Crucial SSD connected, the computer will boot from the 840 EVO and I can choose it from the boot menu, but it doesn't show up in the boot priority options. Anyone know what's going on here? BIOS is up to date, both SSDs work perfectly fine, all SATA ports work... can't quite put my finger on it.
