  1. After doing not much research, it will become obvious to you that a large number of early X99 Gigabyte motherboards had some faulty bios versions, resulting in boot loops. My setup's boot loop used to happen every 25 seconds or so but now it is every 3-4 seconds if left alone. (CPU pins and motherboard socket seem perfectly fine to me) Setup I am trying to get working: i7-5820k Gigabyte X99-SLI Corsair Vengeance LPX 4x4GB 24000mHz [I have also been testing with a 2x8GB 3000mHz version] GTX 780 (definitely works) Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB SSD (definitely works) Corsair RM1000 PSU (definitely works) [I have also been testing with a ~2012 OCZ 700W unit] I have tried the following, none of which post (no display output, at least): - Booting with/without RAM - Booting with different amounts of RAM (1-4 DIMMs) - Booting with different RAM kits (different frequencies and capacities) (note: I am prioritising the manual's recommend slot if only 1 is to be used) - Booting with/without secondary storage attached (have only tried SATA) - Booting with/without a graphics card - Booting with different power supplies - Booting with/without anything in the USB ports - Booting after clearing the CMOS (holding screwdriver between pins) - Booting after removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes - Booting after trying a CMOS battery from a different, working motherboard I have recently been attempting BIOS updates: When updating to BIOS version F24c (latest, released 2018/06/15), here is my method: 1. Remove all RAM DIMMs 2. Downloaded latest BIOS on another machine 3. Put just the BIOS file on a FAT32 flash drive (I have also tried placing all three files) 4. Renaming the BIOS file to GIGABYTE.BIN (I have also tried not renaming it) 5. Putting the flash drive into the machine and turning the power on 6. The machine then does one of its 3-4 second boot loop restarts and then realises a flash drive is in, resulting in an orange light turning on. - This is the only way the machine remains powered on 7. The orange light then flashes, as does the light on the flash drive. 8. I leave this until the lights become solid and do not flash. 9. I then turn off the machine, install 1 RAM DIMM and power on. 10. This does not result in any display output. To recreate the conditions of the tutorial I followed for this, I have also tried the above method with the F20 BIOS (released 2016/01/12). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  2. I just recently upgraded my AMD fx 6300 to a Ryzen 7 3800x. Doing so I had to also upgrade my motherboard and RAM. My new motherboard is an ASRock x470 Taichi and my new RAM is 32gb of Gskill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200(I also have a GTX 1050 TI) I put the whole system together and went to start it and all the fans spin up and lights come on then after about 30 seconds everything turns off and the system try’s again. Effectively “boot looping”. Not even the Dr. debug screen is lighting up. I have tried everything to get the system up and running, I’ve tried using one memory stick. Running the system out of the case and with nothing but the cpu and one ram stick installed and the same result. I have also cleared CMOS multiple times and still no prevail. Does anyone know of any tips or anything that I can try to get my system up and running. I need to get it running ASAP because I do freelance video editing and I have projects due very soon. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
  3. 4. I have a crappy PC that i built some years ago (i3-7100 gtx 750ti 8gbRAM 500wpsu msi h110 m a pro m2 motherboard). It worked fine until a few months ago when it started to reboot when i would play games with good graphics. I would be playing Warframe on high settings with 70 fps and the pc would reboot itself out of nowhere(I played on these settings before and everything was fine). So i bought a new motherboard, because i was told the old one couldnt deliver as much voltage as it used to, this time it was msi h310m pro-vdh plus. I installed everything on it and when i pushed the power button my pc turened on for 2 seconds and then it shut off. I tried everything to fix it i swapped my ram around i did that reboot with a battery thats on the motherboard, i unpluged evrything exeps psu. The problem is with the motherboard because i tried to boot with my old one and it worked. The new motherboard is in perfect contition from the outside, no pins bent no nothing. Please help
  5. intel I7 7700kasus strix z270E gaming bios version 1302G skill ripjaws 2x8 2133mhzEVGA 500b 80+ bronzeand my boot drive is a WD Blue 1tbI've been unable to get this pc to boot into windows without entering safe mode, otherwise it just turns off as windows boots or just before it. Tried with a single ram stickattempted using other sata ports, i've reformatted the hardrive and reinstalled windows on it and it will boot to windows on other machines without issue but no luck with this one. I went and created a ubuntu bootable on my flash drive and the system starts with no issues. I have been able to get it to boot into safe mode with the hardrive however that's as far as I've gotten, checked the health of the drive through the bios and there seems to be no issue with it. Cpu temps are also well within specany advice or tips on how I can resolve this issue?
  6. Hi Guys, I just built my first PC. After I finished building it I tried to boot it into the bios but I am stuck in a boot loop and my monitor gets no signal. The PC turns on for about 20 seconds and then switches off for 3 seconds and repeats. Most people say that I should pop my CMOS out and put it back in, but this would only reset the bios. My parts are brand new and since I never actually managed to get into the bios and hence never changed anything I hardly believe that a bios reset will help. Do you have any help on how to fix this? My Parts are: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO CPU Cooler ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Zotac GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER 4 GB Twin Fan Video Card Crucial BX500 480 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case Corsair CXM 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply ARCTIC P14 Silent 29.8 CFM 140 mm Fan ARCTIC P14 Silent 29.8 CFM 140 mm Fan
  7. Hi All, So my PC has been acting odd recently. After installing a new SSD and doing a fresh upgrade to windows 10, it started not being able to turn back on after a night of being shut down. This started about a month and a half ago. It powers up, no "Beep" from the mobo, no HDMI output/ splash screen, and then shut down after about five seconds. After a further 5 seconds, it would start back up, "Beep", the mouse and the keyboard would light up, the monitor would turn on, a single underscore displays in the top left of the screen, then turn off again. It then restarts this whole process again, on an infinite loop. Initially, simply unplugging a lot of things and plugging them back in again would get it to boot. After that, I would not shut it down, but instead put it in sleep mode, from which it had no trouble loading back up from. I've been able to do this a few times over the last month when it has shut down for whatever reason - but unfortunately, last night's shut down was the last straw, and I cant get it back on, with it being stuck in the continuous loop. Things I have tried: Reset the CMOS with a screw driver (this worked once before but not this time) Removed the CMOS battery for 3 mins then put it back in Unplug and plug everything attached to the motherboard back in again Remove the GPU and use the mobo hdmi output Remove all things plugged into the mobo one by one and trying to start it up with each removed in an attempt to pinpoint what might be doing it Ensure that the mobo is appropriately raised off of the case with those special screws/ make sure that it is not too tightly screwed in (flush but not really really tight) My specs: OS: Windows 10 64bit Processor: i5 4960K PSU: G7 Power Extreme 780W GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 RAM: 2x Corsair Vengeance 8gb Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB SATA 2.5" Anyone got any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't really want to have to get a new motherboard (as I would then have to get a new processor and RAM as any new MOBO i get would be LGA 1151)!
  8. I have now reinstalled 19.10 onto an SSD 3 times with the same results: OS installs without error Restart and load the OS OS loads without error Install an application/driver or two. Run apt update && apt upgrade Restart OS gets stuck at loading screen (pic) I'm dumbfounded. Each time, same result. Loads correctly the first boot stops working the 2nd. This isn't the first time I've experienced this type of issue on earlier versions of Ubuntu but the issue was always fixed by just restarting the machine. This time the issue is persistent. Have you @MEC-777 had this issue before and had any success getting around it? Perhaps I should try a different distribution like Mint or Pop and see if the results are different? Right now this is not my primary SSD. It's a scratch SSD for general testing. All troubleshooting suggestions from everyone are appreciated. Hardware (no OC's): AMD Threadripper 1950X G.Skill Ripjaws 4x8GB 2400MHz ASUS X399-A PRIME 2xSapphire Tri-X R9 290X's ADATA SP900 64GB (For testing Ubuntu 19.10) Samsung 960 Pro 1TB (running Ubuntu 19.04) Broadcom BCM85710S Dual SFP+ NIC Corsair AX1200i To create the bootable thumb drive for installing 19.10 I used dd (may or may not have something to do with the issue): umount /dev/sdb1 mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1 dd if=ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdb
  9. This build was bought in the summer of 2016 and has always had this issue. Build was sent back once to be checked out by Overclockers UK (where it was bought) to diagnose it and they said the only issue was RAM incompatibility, new ram was bought that was compatible but the same problem remained. Trying to find the problem STILL. Problem: PC gets stuck in a boot loop and has never gotten to post. Most of the time I don't get a beep code but sometimes it will give 5 long beeps. Specs of the build: Mobo: Gigabyte ga z170n-wifi rev1 CPU: Intel i5-6400 RAM: 2x Ballistix Sport LT White 4GB DDR4-2666 (BLS4G4D26BFSC) PSU: Corsair SF450 GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 AMP! Edition Storage: Samsung SSD I have done all of the following steps so far: Tested the RAM in every possible configuration (both slots, each stick in either slot) Checked for bent pins (none found) Checked if the CPU was properly seated Bios reset CPU power connector in different connectors on the PSU (3 of the same connectors for PCIE power and CPU power) Forcing backup bios With and without GPU With and without SSD Most of these resulted in bootlooping without beeps, sometimes I would get 5 long beeps. One of the problems is also that Gigabyte doesn't even list 5 long beeps on their BIOS beep code page and googling it gives all kinds of different results as to what that can mean. Hope someone here can help with identifying the issue.
  10. I have a Dell (Model# TTYFJA00 I think) laptop with a boot issue. The issue is that when the machine is cold booted or restarted, it boots into Dell's "ePSA Pre-Boot System Assessment (4302.10)" BIOS diagnostic utility. Letting this utility run never finds any issues or errors. If i hold F12 during boot and manually boot to the drive, Windows 10 boots as normal. Here's what I have tried thus far: - Letting the diagnostic utility run its course (never finds anything wrong) - Switching startup method in windows to 'normal' - Re-seated power button ribbon cable (I read somewhere that non-keyboard button presses can cause the diagnostic to come up) - Reinstalled windows 10 - Disabled/Enabled secure boot (I read on a Dell forum that sometimes secure boot doesn't play nice after a windows update) - Verified the partition in which windows is installed is marked as 'active' - Reseated drive and RAM - Reset BIOS to default settings - Updated BIOS to most recent version - Setting the hard disk as the only boot option - Swapped the HHD for a known good SSD with windows 10 installed - Verified CPU fans are spinning - Tested with compatible charger - Tested with/wthout battery installed Would love any and all reccomendations you can provide, I'm getting really frustrated with this...
  11. The issue that is happening is my pc will turn on along with fans and led's for 3 seconds and then turn off, turn back on for 3 seconds, turn off again. It is in this constant cycle. This was happening before I upgraded what was mentioned above. I have tried breadboarding, resetting the cmos, taking out the RAM and switching it around as well as only putting in one stick at a time. I have run out of ideas and have noticed other people have had this issue as well. I am thinking it is something with my psu shorting out. When I bought the pc the power port was not right, kind of like that old charger that had to be JUST right in order to charge your phone. But this was for my psu port. When I am stuck in this boot loop it does not post or load bios. On the motherboard it shows there is a DRAM error and then right before switching off, it goes to a CPU error
  12. Hi. I just bought some new Ram for my Gigabyte ga-z68x-ud3h-b3 ver 1.3. The ram i bought is HyperX Fury DDR3 1866MHz 16GB. When I put the RAM in , the pc just boot loops. I have tried to switch RAM slots, and even tried only 1 RAM stick. Same result. Has anyone had the same problem, and got around it? Stian
  13. Hi guys, I've just built a new computer but it just constantly goes through a boot loop without getting into the bios menu. I'm using the x570 taichi with the ryzen 3700, I've tried everything from breaking it down, rebuilding and even trading in the x570 taichi and the processor. They told me at Microcenter that everything looks good and I should not be getting this issue. Any thoughts what might be wrong?
  14. Hey So I finish building my first pc this Christmas and it ran fine for a month then it started shutting down randomly and not turning back on unless unplugged for a bit I heard this was due to AMD’s problem with the cpu being under volted. So I lived with the occasional shutdown. yesterday I was on it and it was running fine I ran a cinebench and got the same performance I had when I built it 1556cb. Today went to get on and work on cad and it wouldn’t boot so I unplugged it for awhile when I turned it back on it started to boot “nothing on screen” and it shut down again and did this over and over again. I unplugged it and reseated everything and checked all connections then turned it back on and still it’s in a loop of off and on. If anyone could help thanks. Boot loop

About a month ago my one year old PC started to to reboot with no error displayed under load as if it was overheating. I made sure it was not overheating and updated the drivers but the problem kept getting worse. Now I can barely even get to BIOS let alone Windows. I have reduced the entire PC to just the PSU, motherboard, CPU and one stick of RAM. Nothing is connected besides these and a CPU fan, not even front I/O, but the problem persists. At most it can idle in BIOS for 20 minutes or I manage to get into windows for about 3 minutes, then it turns off and gets stuck in a reboot loop. These being: Gigabyte Z170-HD3P i5-6600k (with Cooler Master hyper 212x) HyperX Savage 4GB 2133Hz EVGA Supernova 550 G2 I have tried many things including: -scanning for malware and removing it -Windows recovery -Check Disk shows no error -Windows Memory Diagnostic shows no error -sfc scannow shows no error -updating BIOS (problem persisted on both the previous F4 and the newest F22g version) -clearing the CMOS -reseating everything including CPU and its cooler -tried both RAM sticks in every slot individually -cooling the southbridge as I noticed it gets much hotter than anything else while idling in BIOS -visually checked every component and cable but did not find any issue -checked components for overheating while running -tested the PSU, power cord and the outlet with a multimeter (good results) -tried different power outlets I dont know what to do anymore. No suspicious noises or smells. I have never overclocked anything. Voltages for RAM and CPU are correct. Temps sit at 27-30 degree Celsius. The last thing I can think of is getting an internal PC speaker to reveal the culprit, but so far I have difficulties even finding any for sale that ship to my country. Any ideas? Thank you.
  17. Please help!!! I'm stuck on an endless turn on - shutdown loop. New pc, gigabyte aorus gaming 3 MB, i7 7040x cpu, 1300W evga psu. Installed everything just as the manual said I should. I'm stuck with this boot loop and the cpu led is what turns on in the mobo. Tried replacing psu for the original evga 650 i bought for it - didn't work either. Swapping ram sticks didn't do the trick. Cleared CMOS with no results. Everything brand new. What can be wrong???? Agahahahhahahaag
  18. (Video of issue at bottom of post) System specs: 6700k Noctua NH-D15 Gigabyte Gaming 7 Z170 G.Skil TridentZ 3400 Mhz RAM Zotac GTX 1070 AMP! Edition 2x SSD 1x 1TB HDD EVGA 650w G2 80+ Gold PSU Backstory: About 3 months ago, I had purchased an Oculus Rift and had a friend over to play around with it. We set everything up on my screened in porch for maximum play space. While playing a bowling game, my friend slammed his fist on the table my PC was sitting on by accident, and it immediately froze up and started making an awful electronic glitching sound ("MERRRRRRRR"). Hitting the reset switch did nothing, so the only thing I could do was flip the PSU switch and reboot. It sat there and boot-looped for about 10 to 15 minutes before it finally decided to post and boot. Ever since then, the same thing will happen even if the PC receives minimal shock. For instance, letting my mouse down a little too hard is enough to set it off. The audio doesn't always glitch out too. And 95% of the time, the only thing I can do is flip the power switch and let it bootloop for a while until it finally boots. The only step I've taken to resolve the issue one my own is a complete rebuild. I tore the PC down, checked everything from connectors, to cables, to standoffs. Here is me demonstrating the issue: Note that in this video I am greatly exaggerating the amount of shock needed to make it freeze, only for the video. Here is what happens afterwards: This can go on anywhere from 20 seconds to 15 minutes. I actually gave up after I recorded this and am typing this on a Macbook haha. The only two things I think may be causing this are either the PSU or the RAM.
  19. I bought 2 sets of dual channel ddr3 (so 2 2x8gb kits) because quad channel ddr3 that is compatible with the MSI X79 Gd45-Plus is quite hard to come by these days. The modules are compatible with the board when in dual channel with only 2 sticks installed (the pc boots and runs fine) but when I put the 2 kits in together in quad channel the pc won't boot and I just get a black screen with the pc restarting itself every 10 seconds or so. I've checked the serial numbers on the modules and they're exactly the same apart from the last numbers are 1, 2, 3 and 4 (which I think is pretty remarkable as seen as they were bought as 2 random kits) So I assume that gives them a better chance of working in quad channel as they're so similar. I am running a 2011 xeon which supports quad channel at the frequency that this ram runs at (1600) So I don't see that being a problem either. I thought that dual and quad channel were similar enough that 2 kits of dual channel might work as quad channel. Was I wrong? Anyone got any ideas?
  20. Got a new mother board, switched it into the system and am now experiencing a bootloop before bios screen flashes. It was an open box mobo should I just rma it ASAP? Have tried switching ram, and clearing cmos.
  21. So let me begin, I am currently stuck on a windows 7 32 bits system. It's obviously not really good, because it can only access 3gb ram. I then saw a YouTube video saying that a patch called "PaePatch2" can make the access to all the RAM. The video seemed legit and it got 100k+ views, and with a good like/dislike ratio. So I downloaded the patch and follower the steps carefully. There was a weird thing though, because in the video, the command prompt was saying "patch carefully done" but on my pc, it was written "failed". Anyways, it still said "-done -restart the computer" so that's what I did.. In the video, it was booting from Windows 7 PAE PATCHED, and it did show on my boot menu, then I clicked on it. The problem now is that the computer doesn't seem able to reconfigure my hard drive data. It show a loading windows for a VERY long time and then it show me this: (A little precision, I am now booting with the normal Windows)
  22. I got a strange issue, which I tried to solve for months now and where I got no hope left for a permanent solution. I don't get it, why it's still imposible to do Major Windows 10 Updates without a "freeze", followed by boot looping for serval Haswell or Sandybridge based Systems. Here's what i expirienced with the following combination. A budget PC, OEM by Asus, with a "h81m-a" board and a "i7-4770s" still can't do the update (from Windows 7 or windows 10 first release to April 2018 or second "October" November release), even if the latest official "BIOS" is in place. BIOS manipulations, like a CPU microcode which I applied to the different partitions within the UEFI's (GPT Based) "BIOS" file system (Check "FIT Table" Screenshot) have no effect either. I'm not all alone with this issue (but I don't own a "G3258" CPU). For reference one of many links: Intel forum about H81 and G3258 I suspect that there exists a general problem with all "Intel H81" based systems, but I can't confirm it. But maybe this could be a topic for Linus to investigate. Because so far "team blue" never gave a clear answer to this issue.
  23. My friend just recently gave me a motherboard that he had replaced. He told me that when you turned it on, it would power on for 2 seconds, then turn off for 2 seconds, and then power back on again for 2 seconds. Then rinse and repeat. I recently powered on the board yesterday and can confirm that it is doing this. The motherboard is a GA-Z87-D3HP that has a DualBios. Here are the following things I have tried and keep in mind the motherboard is not inside a case since I don't have another case: Changed to 2 different types of DDR3 RAM (no change still power looping) Changed to 2 different types of DDR3 RAM (no change still power looping) No RAM installed (no change still power looping) Changed CMOS battery (no change still power looping) Cleared CMOS (no change still power looping) Used PCIE graphics card (no change still power looping) Changed location of PCIE graphics card (no change still power looping) Used integrated graphics (no change still power looping) I'm all out of ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  24. Hey everyone Hope you are all having a good Friday and happy 10 years LTT I am hoping that I can get some insight on a windows deployment server issue I am seeing. The company I work for has a deployment server onsite so that we can image new PCs The issue is I am seeing is I am able to get the new PC to boot to the server. It loads the file and then opens up windows deployment services, but before the window opens up so that I can start a deployment the PC reboots. Out of the close to 50ish computers (laptops and desktops) I have only had this happen 2 times. So it isn't a common issue but still a problem that I would like to know how to correct and prevent if it is a workflow issue which I am doubtful of. The PCs are Lenovo T480's and Lenovo M710's.
  25. Hey all so earlier today I was on my desktop and it completely and totally froze up and so I performed a hard reboot and when I attempted to start it again rather than powering on like normal, all the lights would go on and the fans would spin up for a second then stop, and it does that in a loop until it is either unplugged or the power supply is shut off. Things that I've already tried -Reseating all power supply cables -Reseating the ram -Removing the gpu -Clearing the Cmos System specs -Intel core i5 8600k at stock speeds -MSI z370 gaming plus motherboard -2x8gb Crucial ballistix sport ddr4 -MSI gaming x rx480 4gb -EVGA 500b 80+ bronze psu Any help would be greatly appreciated as I just spent nearly $600 upgrading this system.
